    From the way you put it it sounds to me that a child is acting like a child. Children can be a bit much sometimes. Moral: Don't send children on life ending adventures. Steven is safe because he is a cartoon character.

      I agree, I think I overlooked this because maybe I thought 13 was old enough to not get in the way of important missions but some of his actions are pretty explanatory due to him being a kid still. I hope I can make a better video than this one to explain my points better!!

      Steven is very much NOT safe despite being a cartoon character, but this is only fully explored in Steven Universe Future. There's a brilliant scene in the hospital when Steven is getting treated where he thinks back on all the life-threatening events that happened to him and realizing just how Not Ok he's been this whole time. It's even implied that the main reason he survived even trivial seeming injuries he brushed off at first is because his healing powers saved him from things that would end an average human child's life.

      @@FlowerKidLive There is a whole episode dedicated to the fact that his appearance is affected by his state of mind and that he has stagnated both physically and mentally, and this could be implied to be caused by the gems sheltering and "baby"-ing him at the start of the show because they realize he's unlike any other creature and he's not as strong as gems but not as weak as humans so they're not really sure where the line is on what he can and can't handle (both mentally and physically, probably why the hid the whole gem war from him at first.) ; Sorry for posting so much, I just really like Steven Universe. ; v ;

    Tbh, I'm with the other comments saying: He's a kid. Also, his character gets way better in future seasons. I will admit though, if you're this disgruntled by this first season, I'm afraid you'll just keep trying to find problems with it and not enjoy the show.

    Bro, that's just a child acting like a child. When a kid fucks something up, and they're sorry for it, you say it's not their fault just to cheer them up. You watched just the first season, and you're like "Steven doesn't learn from his mistakes", he does, Steven makes a mess and then he has to fix it, and when he does he sais that he shouldn't act like he did in the first place, you literally showed it in your video

    I know you said you've only seen season 1 so far, but I believe you've critiques of Steven himself will change. Season 1 has a different tone than the rest of the show because it only focuses on character and lore forshadowing. The first episode of season 2 immediately addresses your concern of Steven not taking things seriously, to establish the tone shift the world lore takes.

    • @GhostIsMostly
      @GhostIsMostly หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      This character change from Steven specifically comes from the events of Season 1's finale, Steven has finally seen that there ARE threats capable of defeating the Crystal Gems, that they're not invincible (like he may have thought at the beginning of the show), that his actions DO have consequences (and far reaching ones at that), and that if he doesn't take things seriously, not only could he lose his family or even his life, but the fate of everyone on Earth depends on whether or not the Crystal Gems can "repel" Homeworld. Before then, every mission just seemed like "their duty" as super-powered aliens to "protect Earth" and that as long as Steven was with the Gems, everything would be OK. Then this idea is literally shattered as Garnet, the strongest person Steven knows (She can punch through solid rock AND swim in lava unscathed), is broken apart in ONE HIT by this new threat, which then knocks him unconscious, showing that they will NOT show mercy to children.

  • @GhostIsMostly
    @GhostIsMostly หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    The biggest hurdle to get over for watching Steven Universe is getting through Season 1. It's twice as long as every other season because it's paced like early Adventure Time, where they were expecting way more episodes and more room to breathe narratively. Unfortunately, with the Pro-LGBT reveal at the end of Season 1, Cartoon Network pumped the breaks on the shows production and this affected how the episodes would be released in the future. This was stretched it's thinnest with the "Steven Bomb" format, where the show would go on hiatus for months at a time and then drop like a weeks worth of episodes almost randomly. Thankfully, now that the show's finished, you can watch it in it's entirety at your own pace. By the time you finish Season 1, you've become emotionally invested enough in both the main characters and the world they're trying to save, that you stick around to watch the mystery unfold. (What mystery, you ask? Watch Season 2 to find out.)

    I do like the show and the characters but Steven's actions and characteristics do bothers me a lot while watching it. Sometime he has a good development but sometimes that goes out of the window and he becomes oblivious towards the situation. It frustrates me sometimes even though I genuinely want to enjoy his character. That being said, I do agree this show is not too controversial, for me at least, as my biggest problem is Steven's judgement and decisions that made me baffled sometimes.

    @ 9:40 Garnet had already bubbled the cursed scroll after setting it on fire; Steven has seen the gems bubble dangerous gems/artifacts to stabilize and contain them. It's possible he assumed Garnet WAS done once the object was bubbled and was surprised that it was able to break free. As for "I dream too big", that was Steven's way of saying "it wasn't meant to be." A part of Stevens character is that he'll sometimes say some out-of-pocket things as a joke. (i.e. "let's pretend like there isn't an evil fusion boiling the ocean with hate" [paraphrasing] in Chille Tid.)

    Honestly, I feel like Serious Steven made up for the Sea Spire incident.
    Honestly ditto on the Ipad Kid front, the way Steven was basically left alone for a long time if it weren't for pearl doing his education.
    Steven had been shooting for the together breakfast as a group activity due to them going round on missions and him being a lonely kid. That was steven's dream, him and the gems eating (Mostly amethyst) the breakfast while talking.
    Steven literally realised that he forgot to pay attention to what Pearl was saying about the living gem shards, the living infantry and the many many deaths. He also put the gem shard in the costume due to him thinking (In the short term) that it would help PeeDee with his problem.

    Steven made me cry a lot when I watched it. Yes sometimes the episodes were shit but I was willing to look to the other side because of all the good that was there. I'm not really sure how Steven should act from time to time.Maybe it goes back and forth so much because the writers knew that the episodes won't be aired in the order they were created in, or maybe my shitty country didn't air them the way they were supposed to but nevertheless I'm not sure how Steven should act, what his common sense should include with him being raised with almost no real parents. The crystal gems tried to be like their leader ,sure but they themselves were flawed in a way they couldn't see without Steven's help (or maybe my memory is just bad). Is there an episode where one gem that's not Steven helped another gem to overcome a problem with their personality that they faced. Then there's his father. I don't remember if they proposed an idea of how much time they spend together on and off screen but his father could have been a better parent too. Maybe I'm too harsh, idk. What I do know however is that I want you to make a second part. Make it about something you like or dislike about the show. Take as much time as you need and take care of yourself. Bye for now
