A whole ass different character. "Race swapping" 1. She's a girl 2. She's a whole new character 3. Timmy is even in the show 4. Wanda and cosmo move onto new kids when the others grow up.
@@Penguinmanereikel i think he meant the Bus driver looks like Timmy from the Episode where he wished to grow up to 40 or something. IDK, didn't watch the show.
Fr, I like when they stay true to the original characters and Fairly Odd Parents: A New Wish does that it made a new character instead of reusing Timmy who would now be an adult but then there's that one person who freaks out when the NEW character is black, gay, or even slightly different than what they want.
Telling someone to make your own character instead of using an already existing IP, yet still mad when said character is created regarding the color of the skin really says a lot about the hypocrisy of the anti-woke crowd.

Gerald Johanssen in "Hey Arnold" is an original black character. Hazel is not, just like Bliss isn't, from Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot. Stop putting black characters in white themed cartoon, thinking that I, a black man, will like it.
i've heard people actually say that and it's so dumb, especially since you know these are the same people who get mad about blackwashing in media (which i will admit as a poc i'm not a huge fan of either, it just feels like surface level diversity and i'd much rather have new stories being made than just the old ones with a new coat of paint,) and they'll say "just make your own characters!!" and then when they do make original characters that's also bad?? they'll make a ton of excuses but rlly it's just people being mad the protagonist isn't a white guy.
"I dont care about the race of a character" Race was the entire reason he made that video If one truly thinks that a character's race doesnt matter to who they are as a person, then it should matter even LESS to them if a character IS race swapped or genderbent or so on and so forth
This dude completely lost me when he said that he doesn't see Static as a black character one of the main points of his original comic book creation was to show more black superheroes. He is a good character that anyone of any race could relate to but they never forgot that he was a black person too.
It's also funny when people always seem to go after April O'Neil in the TMNT comics when one of the things to take note of was that April was very ambiguous in the original comics as no one really had a nailed design for her, and the only real thing that they had was that she was originally based off of one of the artist's girlfriends, who was mixed. Personally, I think that it's a good thing that the newer reboots have altered the characters more dramatically (especially the turtles. Say what you will about the 80s or 03, but their designs are SUPER boring in comparison to the later ones).
@@Augestein I kinda agree when it comes to 03 and 87's April designs (I like 03's April as a character though), 2012's April looked a lot more interesting in her design despite the jumpsuit being an iconic look for her so I don't really mind the direction they're going with her, especially since she's been getting younger throughout the years along with the turtles.
Reminded me of that interview with the Brave co-director going “gender has nothing to do with this movie.” That movie seriously needs an animated, NOT LIVE ACTION (!!!), remake. Brave, Wish, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Chicken Little, Strange World. The only one I’d be fine with either an animated or live action remake would be The Black Cauldron.
My rule of thumb is: -If a character's race is important to their story, don't change their race. -If a character's race is noticeable in their story, weigh your motivations and reasons for changing their race. This requires heavy thinking. -If a character's race is irrelevant to their story, WHO TF CARES LMAO. Like genuinely who gives a shit. Go wild. but even then the argument of Hazel being a raced swap character is utter nonsense because *SHE'S A NEW CHARACTER*
I agree. I think a lot of the raceswapping is just the natural results of reboots in a new era. You look back at old shows and realize the main cast is suspiciously white, to the point where it feels kinda strange. So alongside putting a modern twist on the show, they 'twist' a few races to reflect modern standards. As long as it doesn't negatively impact the show, who cares. Even if this WERE a raceswap, Timmy's race has literally no impact in the show.

@@greenamber9827 Yeah the two most annoying are cyborg and static, mainly cause for cyborg his race while not focused on was still a part of his character. Mainly some small scenes for him where its harder to notice and the much bigger problem, Static is an amazing show where statics race plays a pretty big part in it. Don't forget the ep where he goes to Africa and works with another black hero and how it helps static accept himself more. Or when he works with green lantern and its revealed that static has always looked up to him.
@@theworstspeedrunner A pretty good example for how Cyborg's race wasn't focused on but is still part of his character is the bait and switch with that one episode in the teen titans show where Starfire was being called "Troq" which is a slur for her people that means she is worth nothing and is inferior and when cyborg talks to her about it he says "So he's calling you a terrible name, and you know that if you punch him out it'll just confirm all the bad stuff he thinks about you" which is an obvious parallel to people in black communities being treated terribly and being called slurs and any sign of aggression or acting out to be used against them as "proof" that said communities are violent. Afterwards Starfire says, "You know what it feels like to be judged simply because of how you look?" and he gives a bait and switch response of "Of course I do, I'm part robot" Him being black wasn't directly referenced or used in the exchange, his character being part cyborg is used instead, but his race is still in the viewers mind as additional context to set the tone of the exchange. I really love that conversation by the way, real good writing in it
Saying a reboot “ruined the world / characters” of a story and “ruined your childhood” are two very different things, as the latter is usually said by pathetic individuals who either think it somehow affects their enjoyment of the original show and or are using it as a bigoted dogwhistle.
@@InfinitySevens True, the original show still exists. If that stuff wasn't preserved in some way (streaming, physical media prints, etc) then there would be a bit of an issue and I think that would be appropriate time to say "childhood ruined"

I think giving Cosmo and Wanda a new godchild was the best decision they made. There are only so many stories you can tell with Timmy alone, he's got to grow up and part ways eventually.
It just sounds like racism ngl. They tell corporations to make new characters instead of “ruining the good ones” and when they do make a new character it’s “WHY IS SHE BLACK?”
Obviously it's to make white people feel guilty about not having black characters in a non-black show. Apparently, Timmy's friend A.J, who's a very intelligent black boy, mind you, wasn't enough for them.
And there's an episode where Richie, Virgil's best friend, has a dad who had a vendetta against Virgil's dad due to the discrimination against African-Americans, until both dads settled their differences to fight another "villain of the week" threat that Richie's dad turned over a new leaf.

The duality of racist people is how they'll complain about "raceswapping" characters who were originally white, and then still be mad when they make a brand new character who happens to be a person of color. These people also don't seem to understand that 1. people of color both in shows and in the industry don't get as much proper rep as their white counterparts- Making sure voice actors of color get the roles they should is very important, actually. 2. Characters of color have experiences white people often dont, and showing those experiences is important esp for developing empathy. You can still relate to a character of a different race even if you dont experience racism or a specific culture. and 3. Changing a white character black hardly changes anything, but changing a black character white completely breaks since race/culture often plays a significant role in who that character is. And even if it didnt its still kinda scummy to do that. Turning Tiana from Princess and the Frog white wouldnt work because Tiana's entire character and the setting of New Orleans revolves around her identity as a black woman. that isn't something you can just change without having to rewrite the entire story from scratch.
Point 3 just kinda sounds like you’re saying white characters have no identity while black characters have to always be relatable to real life. Which just seems like a greater division to me.
So with your third point is that white characters don't have a proper story so they can be changed their race but black characters don't? Explain please, because black characters not always have to do something with their race

One could almost say Panther exists because the industry wanted an African Hero that was *truly African* Falk himself I wish had a comic based on his life, it's absolutely hilarious. The comic was only *half* his legacy. Most comic artists never really got out of The Bronx/SF/San Diego areas, see. But Falk had loads of respect from contemporaries and academic peers because of "his travels" and he was always bringing back wild tales from his "trips." It's kinda weird that guy said A New Wish disrespected when the franchise already disrespected itself multiple times. Even the ORIGINAL SHOW disrespected itself. A New Wish is the most respectful media to the source that this franchise has been in a long time.
tbh i actually admire the a new wish writing team for trying to make a somewhat plausible timeline and cohesive lore out of the original show’s mile-long list of retcons, inconsistencies, and plot points/characters that were never brought up again.
With him saying “unfaithfulness of the source material’ especially with the new Fairly Oddparents show, the whole idea of the original show is fairies are given to lonely abandoned kids so they can find happiness. I haven’t seen the new show, but from what I hear and seen, the show is sticking to that main idea.
Hazel really fits the lonely kids because her brother left to college and she wanted to fit in with the new neighborhood. Also, her parents are pretty supportive too, and they aren't as useless and obnoxious as Timmy's parents, which is a nice change of pace.
To be fair, the source material was very unfaithful to itself too. Like, every other episode they ignored Da Rules. Hell, even the "Fairies go to unhappy kids" is not respected, cuz we've had plenty of examples of kids that don't have fairies being worse off than Timmy (Chester and Tootie), and kids better off than Timmy having Fairies. (Remy and Chloe)
Uh, that's not what he meant: it's more like "race doesn't matter until a white character is turned black", which i kind of agree with, because racebending is often (not always) made for representation, which IS about race. The problem is that this idiot seems to think that Hazel is a replacement for Timmy instead of a successor, which is why his argument is shit. If anything, it sounds more like "a black legacy character to a white character is bad solely for being black". Like those people who thought Miles Morales was the Ultimate version of Peter Parker instead of a different character and hated him for that.

As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is literally the only GOOD black kids show now. The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family sucks now! All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. One of the victims unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season. Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025! The best we can hope for is that A New Wish stays consistent with their quality moving forward and will get renewed eventually. If it means making the show the most watched on Netflix, so be it. A modern Fairly OddParents show. Who’d have thunk?
It’s not that all three networks have been sabotaging original shows, it’s that Streaming Services had been killing original shows on cable, prime time, syndication, on demand, basic TV for the past 3 years. Its a good thing this year gave us the FOP sequel series that’s on the air. Because it’s probably a step in the right direction for cable.
15:57 In the Teen Titans show, one of the episodes basically covered racism. Starfire telling Cyborg the kind of names she gets called and such over her race. Her asking if Cyborg knows what she talking about. Him saying he does since he's parts robot, but we know what he actually meant given the theme and context of what Starfire was going through
To be fair, in that scene Victor may be legitimately be thinking about ableism rather than racism given how much of the series he spends worrying about how his cybernetics divorce him from other humans and how people might see him as a freak.
It's more like anti-woke comments that complains about Hazel. I can't imagine how these comments doesn't age well when the New Wish finally succeed, which defeats the purpose of the "Go woke, get broke" mantra.
“Cosmo, Wanda, I wish I was a Black Girl!!” This is pretty dang stupid and, as I said on Cartoonshi’s vid, Hazel deserves a chance to be her own character and I do not know anything she could have in common in Timmy that other kids could have… Including having Cosmo and Wanda as FairyOdd Parents, as plenty of other kids have had them as their fairies. I do think there is a discussion for race swapping and saying when it’s questionable when a character race is changed and why, as when Disney does it for Live action movies it does feel like it’s not done for actors talent but because the actors aren’t the original race (it is questionable when this is done half the time) vs when it’s done because the actor loves the character and plays them well…. These points don’t even matter here because Hazel is NOT a race/gender swapped Timmy! This is not a topic that fits with A New Wish.
I'm assuming you're talking about the Little Mermaid, which the voice was the most important part of the series, and Halle Bailey won her audition through her own talents. I don't see how that's impossible to believe. And as far as Snow White is concerned, the story has had so many variations so I'm not sure why it's such a big deal to begin with. Pale skin is just pale skin, and there are plenty of people who are not Caucasian and have pale as hell skin. If there's a conversation to be had, it must really be done carefully.
@@tygerchickchibiIn my opinion the race swapping Disney and many other studios do is a low effort attempt at representation. Instead of creating new original characters that can stand on their own and not be compared to a more popular white version that more people recognize they would rather change the characters skin tone when it adds nothing of substance to the character. It is also a double standard as well. If raceswapping people of color or even casting lighter skinned people to play darker skinned people of the same race is considered racist then I do not think it should be done in vice versa as well. Besides If Disney really wanted to make a live action remake and have African American representation they could’ve remade Princess & The Frog. Although I honestly wish they would just stop with the remakes all together.
There is a legitimate discussion to be had about race swapping, but the Fairly OddParents reboot/sequel show is the WORST possible example to use for that argument! I know I’m just echoing what everybody else has already said, but Hazel is NOT a race swap of Timmy! She is an original character, which I, and others like and prefer to race swaps. But this guy STILL complains? It’s ridiculous. It makes his position feel less like a genuine criticism of culture war nonsense and more like cope to mask actual racism. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say he was being contrarian on purpose and actively TRYING to piss people off. But the fact that he doubled down in the comments section of his TH-cam and Twitter says that this most likely isn’t a troll move.
Yeah, there is a problem with race swapping is how it just uses ethnicity as a pallet swap. Like with My Adventures with Superman's Korean Lois, she at least has elements tying to her heritage, which helps her pass on an alternate take on Lois Lane. With Black Barbara Gordon....... it feels like there was meant to be something there since this is the 40s and....... yeah, I would pay to see Batman clobber racists, and the 40s would be a great time period to explore racism, since most people don't really know much about the Jim Crow Era aside from what gets crammed into the limited class topics on the Civil Rights Movement. Black Ariel...... given the Original Little Mermaid didn't even have a name, she could have just been like Hazel, her own little mermaid with her own traits. Someone separated from the animated movie and allowed to stand on her own. But alas, Disney decided to race swap Ariel, even though they should be more than well aware how much of a hot topic issue it is, and when you look at how Disney and the Media weaponized Live Action Ariel's race...... it makes you feel like Halley's race was nothing more than a shield for Disney to use to protect themselves from inevitable criticism..... only for the movie to bomb anyway because EVERYBODY thought it was an inferior remake.
the only problem i have with this show ver is that i think poof should have been the mc's fairy wanda/cosmo could have stayed with timmy and his kids (maybe also don't like mc's hair idk)
The reason “don’t race swap, make original characters” pivots to “this original character is woke and dumb” is because the point isn’t the character, they just don’t want POC in their media. Same with any other representation of marginalized groups. It’s their way of laundering racist and otherwise bigoted ideas into normal conversation.
I want POC in media but I am also not gonna defend race swapping of existing characters. If the character is a title, like Captain America and a black guy takes over the title, that's great. If they ust suddenly decide Steve Rogers is black and always has been, that's not great, that's lazy. Hazel is how you doit perfectly. April O'Neil is not.
I can see race swapping still being overall negative because of how lazy it tends to be. Instead of writing meaningful representation, they'll just insert a visible minority in and call it a day. The worst is when they then use that as a shield to deflect criticism. Especially if the creator of the piece of media isn't part of that minority group, but the people doing the criticism are. I see it a lot with LGBT "representation" where cis/het writers will call LGBT people homophobic for not liking the background lesbians, but refuse to include LGBT major characters. Or the Disney live action remakes that are lazy soulless cashgrabs but if they make the protagonist black, they can call you racist for not liking the movie, or prefering the animated version. It kind of really shows when it's corporate and the people making it don't care. When the representation is being written by people from these groups, or genuine allies, people who legitimately care, you can feel it. You can feel that it's an actual character with merit. Like Miles Morales, for example.
Geeks + Gamers does the exact same thing with the LGBT community. He _claims_ that he supports them and that he’s okay if they’re “done right,” but still complains when they get involved in media and there ended up being proof of him being homophobic, etc., anyways.

Then it would come off as "oh cool neat detail a same sex couple is visible in the background in this scene" instead of weeks of news articles going FIRST GAY MOMENT IN STAR WARS and it's two frames of nameless characters in the background that you will never see if they're not actively pointed out to you.
Also, I wish people would stop getting upset about Aprils race because even in the original comics in the BEGINNING of TMNT she was apparently MIXED. Technically, April can be any race. Disrespect the source material... by what? Making a story set in the Fairly Oddparents following a completely different character? Just because she's black??? She's an original character, ffs
It's laughable how the New Wish was claimed to disrespect the original series' legacy when Nickelodeon did the series dirty by leaving said series to die from a seasonal rot, yet making an another an embarrassing attempt to bring it back (I'm looking at you, Fairy Odder). And letting Hartman do the work for the writing isn't going to help either.
I'm not even very far into the video, and I'm already annoyed at him claiming TImmy Turner was race-swapped, despite the character in the new show being a completely different character. That's like reading a Spider-Man comic about Miles Morales and complaining that they race-swapped Peter Parker.
as dumb as his take on race-swapping characters are i genuinely dislike his other unnecessarily bad takes such as: 1.He thinks that every cartoon reboot during 2010s and onwards is ridiculous when clearly there are some pretty good reboots out there such as Rise of the TMNT and Ducktales (plus others i might've missed) 2.he thinks Stephen Hillenburg would be disgusted by the existence of Spongebob spin-offs when really HE WAS NOT against the idea and was completely aware of it and gave it a pass. 3.saying that Cartoons don't need an overly colorful and bright art-style...yeah im not going to bother explain that, you already know how that silly that sounds 4.saying that Butch Hartman would've single-handedly ''save/fix the show'' is head-scratching given that Butch hasn't made a decent project/show for the past 10 years or so and i doubt that his involvement would do any favors (he would've ruined it...AGAIN) 5.he thinks Rise of the tmnt movie was bad (boo) 6.the whole argument of Hazel being a race-swapped version of TImmy is like saying MIles Morales is a race-swapped version of Peter Parker having said all that, im not going to harass him 24/7 on some bad internet program but i will say this one thing...if you ever really REALLY need to talk and make a well-rounded analysis and critique on a show then talk about THE SHOW ITSELF and NOT about the character that you have no right to trash on because its a new character and not the OG one because of the race-swap (and watch the show for the second time idk)
I think one of the worst parts about his video is he had the potential to talk about something actually important that being race swapping characters is a lazy way to create representation because in reality these companies don't care about representing people and they show that by race swapping characters. if they really wanted proper representation, they would create new characters for those groups of people like what Hazel is but given his points, I don't think he cares about representation because that's not really what his argument is about. If your only point is the new character is a minority and that is woke and woke is bad then you don't really have an argument.
You forgot 7. Btuch heavily endorsed the show and works on it as a producer. What upsets just as much as his outright racism is how poorly research this video is. He didn't do any research and it shows. I can't wait for the "apology video".
@@spaceaxolotl6196 And to be honest April has been black before so it is odd to bring that up. Raceswaps aren't that new and feels the outright is very selective on them.
What really gets my goat here is that one of the other examples of """raceswapping""" given is April O'Neil, who was ORIGINALLY BLACK AND A MIXED RACE CHARACTER. It genuinely astounds me how many people love to use her as an example when they haven't even done the bare minimum research into her character (and by that I mean READ THE SOURCE MATERIAL)
It was clear that A S.K Air had no idea what he was talking about when he said Hazel was a race swapped Timmy whe they are 2 separate characters completely. Plus A New Wish is a sequel not a Reboot.
Even if she was a race swapped Timmy it shouldn’t matter unless your racist or it was brought up as something important also this show could easily explain a race swap just being that they wished to be a different race.
It's really ironic because a big part of that special was making fun of the "woke bad" crowd. But because they have no media literacy, they didn't realize they were being made fun of, and called just as lazy as the people they complain about. They fully thought that special was on their side and "destroying the woke". It would be hilarious if it wasn't so depressing.
@greenstarlover1 There was a special in which Cartman (the antagonist of the series who is extremely racist/sexist/anything bad you can think of) switches reality with a version of himself from an alternate reality comprised entirely of diverse women. So he is in that universe, and the black woman version of him ends up in the normal South Park universe. Throughout the episode, the show calls out the laziness of pandering without meaningful representation, but also simultaneously calls out the equal laziness of "anti-woke" people using anger and bigotry to take advantage of others. It also has a moment where Cartman has a conversation with Kathleen Kennedy, at which point both characters realize that they are in a vicious cycle. That "woke" exists only because it is a direct reaction to people being bigoted. And then "anti-woke" people getting so offended about it only means that pushing for diversity is more important. For some reason, a lot of people watching the episode completely missed the ENTIRE MAIN POINT of it and thought it was just bashing "woke media" and diversity and inclusion.
"Dont touch our favorite characters by turning them black or changing genders, make your own!" *makes entirely original character, set at a different time in the same universe, thereby keeping them untouched* "Noooo, we didnt want this!"
Like, of ALL the reboots to complain about, he had to choose the one that reedem one the series with the worst fall offs, there is obvious a specific "bias" in his views
I really can't stand when certain people won't shut up about race/gender swapping characters because it always just shallow. For me, race/gender swapping a character is totally fine as long as the character's race/gender isn't important to the character. That stuff he said about Static is so stupid because being black IS important to his character! With characters like April from TMNT, her being black really doesn't change anything because in all the iterations I've seen of her, her being white never really effected the story at all. And Velma, well there are a lot of things wrong with that version of her character but her being Indian is not one of them. Her character could be white like she is in all other iterations of the franchise, and she'd still be a bad character because of how she's written.
as i understand it, the issue isn't race swapping in itself, but the overt hypocrisy that comes with doing it one way, and then actively trying to cancel people who do it the other way. namely on twitter, not with normal people, and twitter is absolutely awful. artists have been harrassed for drawing characters a little to light, but other artists race swap and it's fine. not saying i agree with them, just pointing out the actual problem people have with it.
@@nunote2362if you have to ask yourself “why is this okay but this isn’t” when it comes to raceswapping, then you literally do not need to speak on a topic you clearly have no understanding of
@@wompwompcryabttit that's very convenient, no actual point just "if you don't already agree with it, then you shouldn't say anything about it". that's definitely not going to breed resentment from anyone who may be open to understanding it. if everyone treated things like that, the world would be an even more terrible place than it is. if you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation, then you literally do not need to speak, as you clearly have no point.
@@nunote2362 Of course I didn’t provide a point, because the video you quite literally clicked on already provided it 💀 But if I have to reiterate the point, then I will. There’s a lot of nuance in the conversation around race-swapping in media (that you clearly lack and do not get), which is why it's not hypocritical when characters who were originally white are reimagined as people of color, but it is more problematic when the reverse happens. *Historical Underrepresentation and Exclusion*: Historically, Hollywood and other media industries have largely excluded PoC from significant roles, leading to a massive underrepresentation of non-white characters. This exclusion was reinforced by policies like the **Hays Code**, which RESTRICTED the depiction of PoC in many roles, often relegating them to stereotypical or minor characters. Because of this, PoC have had far fewer opportunities to see themselves represented in meaningful and diverse ways. Cultural Dominance and Representation: White characters have dominated media for decades, leaving PoC with limited representation. When PoC are cast in roles that were originally white, it’s an attempt to correct this imbalance and provide more inclusive representation. This is especially important because PoC still face significant barriers in being cast for leading roles that aren’t tied to racial stereotypes. Overrepresentation of White Characters: White people have been overrepresented in media for so long that race-swapping white characters to PoC is a way to address the lack of diversity. On the other hand, race-swapping a PoC character to white further exacerbates the problem of underrepresentation, erasing the little representation that exists for PoC. In essence, while race-swapping white characters to PoC is an effort to increase diversity and representation, race-swapping in the opposite direction reinforces the same exclusionary practices that have marginalized PoC in media for so long.
i remember when soul eater came out and no one got mad that crona was gender swapped in the anime version for no reason. in the manga the character is male but in the anime the character is female but the gender as you said wasnt important.

what’s super ironic is that he’s using april o’neil as an example of race swapping to justify his argument when in reality she was originally a biracial woman (half black/half irish). in the comics where she first appeared she was poc but then the 80’s show made her a red haired white woman. the new tmnt shows just switch her back to her original ethnicity so he’s using a character that hasn’t been race swapped, as an example of characters who have been raced swapped
I think the concept of raceswapping was preety well utulized until 2016. Since until that point, they just cast charismatic actors/actresses for the roles they beign given. But after 2016 everything went downhill. Companies now using the concept for pandering or escape from critizms. Similar to how concept of Multiverse now just beign used as nostalgia bait. The Little Mermaid is a great example of this. The story is %95 copy-paste from the org animated movie. They just changed the skin tone of few characters here and there. Like please think about it. Everytime we talk about the movie, everyone thinks the raceswapping. Not the story, awfull cgı or how it beign failed at improving the source materiall in a meaningfull way.

"Flashy artstyle"... isn't that something shows WANT to have in order to stand out from the other animated shows on the market? Also, this guy's takes are so braindead that he's making Lily Orchard seem like a veteran literary scholar
I watched static Shock every day after school on sbt as a kid (yes I'm Brazilian) And seeing this dude saying that he didn't saw Virgil (along with blade and cyborg) as black is just disrespectful and dumb
I do think the morals and ethics of race swapping in general are a topic that can be debated(both the people for it and against it tend to make their own good points), but going out of your way to complain about a show you haven't even seen or researched is just idiotic.
I think the largest part is that the race of the character doesn't matter, if a character is good, they're good, if they happen to be black, then cool glad there's a character I enjoy, and can relate to. If a character is bad, that sucks, if they happen to be black, then darn wish we had a better character. I feel this "woke" label is just people being adverse to change, existing in a society that has evolved for the better, to be more inclusive, and they're just not comfortable with that, but instead of their refusal to change/accept how things are, it's everybody else.
Maybe its an American thing but some groups truly think they're the only ones that exist and everybody only watches them. Do they realize in Africa, Africans watch African content?
Well, personally, I think it's because it comes off as unnecessary at times, like with The Little Mermaid. Some people thought that Ariel was exactly the same except black, that the writers didn't try to work off of the character in the original film. I mean, I understand, if they're going to continue making these remakes then they might as well. Also, for people that might think I don't like The New Wish, I think it's fine: I like the animation, the new storylines seem interesting, and Hazel is her own character separate from Timmy. Overall, it seems ok.
the thing i hate most about the race comment is that people CONSTANTLY tell us when a character is race swapped just to “make a new character” and when this is done they will complain. this only furthers my thought that they don’t care if we swap a character or not they just only see white as “normal” and the base, so anything that isn’t that can’t be just because people WANTED to create a better reflection of other people in country and world but only for diversity brownie points. anything that is diverse can not be diverse just for the sake of it but there is always an ulterior motive and such. you simply just do not want to see poc on your screen, especially as protagonist. cyborg and especially static shocks blackness has always been integral to their character. and to not see that is to be purposely blind
>Fairly Odder sucking so much Paramount has been actively trying to erase it from existence >A New Wish being actively praise as a genuinely good new view to the FOP core concept >A.S.K Air: Clearly is BLACKWASHING what's ruining -my childhood- FOP This alone speaks volumes about that person...
I personally hate raceswaps/genderswaps a lot, cuz I feel like they're lazy, creatively bankrupt, are typically caricatures, and give "art fixer energy" a lot of the time, him comparing Hazel with that stuff is just... wrong. She's an original character, a real charming one too, so the point really falls flat when you include an original character with that stuff!
14:15 I do understand the importance of that episode being about judging people by their race, but people can relate to episode like this and not be black. As a black man who's grown up with dealing with ignorance of different people. That episode can hit home for multiple people of different race and/or backgrounds. That's why static shock is so popular like spiderman.
@@blueclube30000 you do understand that the reason the racist said those things is cause static is black right? Just cause other people can related doesn’t disprove the point. The point is saying “I can’t see static as a black character” is dumb because with in the context of that episode he is discriminated because he is black. Would you watch a show where a girl has period cramps and say “well guys have cramps to so I don’t really see how this show is about womenhood” if you would then I think you watch media with your eyes and ears closed :(

- As pointed out, I should've said Mr. Foley instead of Mr. Hawkins, but the point still stands. I'm sure the people who'll correct me will read this comment before they do. 🤡
- To the point of "Creators don't want 'this kinda stuff'": As much as people don't support him, John K supports/supported a Ren & Stimpy Reboot, Rebecca Sugar supported an epilogue of Steven Universe and Seth McFarlane clearly supported the Family Guy spinoff: The Cleveland Show, just as a few more examples. There's also been talks of making more within the Phineas and Ferb and Avatar: TLA franchises. (In fairness, 'this kinda stuff' can mean anything, and I'm assuming in good faith, he means reboots)
- That 'thankful for [Kamp Koral & The Patrick Star Show] pulling in little to no ratings' comment shows such a lame mentality in our community where if someone doesn't like something, they wouldn't want anyone else to enjoy it. Animated shows already have a hard time looking great numbers-wise with the current media landscape, so celebrating the downfall of a show you do or do not get paid for just because of hearsay is weird.
- I cut out a portion of the video (for brevity reasons) fleshing out the "use your platform to uplift what you like more than trashing what you don't" but to be clear, you don't only have to make positive videos, because that'd be hypocritical of me to say. However, I don't complain about why certain shows are popular and have an audience. I also pride myself on my most popular videos generally leaning more positive than negative, showing that this is not a TH-cam-algorithm perspective, that is a mindset perspective. You can speak about banger shows (reboots or not) that you like and make it work.
- I also had to cut out a portion where in his pinned comment, he claimed that his video was not political or racial, because he edited his comment. I'm going to assume that he conceded how silly that claim is.
- Stealing this point from my server, but he doesn't go into detail about Ben 10 (2016) despite having it in the thumbnail, which optically looks a way because of the heavy race-swapping conversation.

Real, the problem (for those "people") isn't that they change color of the character, but that the character is black
Telling someone to make your own character instead of using an already existing IP, yet still mad when said character is created regarding the color of the skin really says a lot about the hypocrisy of the anti-woke crowd.
Ariel, Velma, and 100+ random characters just randomly get turned black to be "more inclusive" or make to make it more controversial so it gets hate watched religiously. Female empowerment doesn't matter if the only way you can do it is to disparage and demean men. "Girl bosses" ruined TV shows and movies as a whole

Also in the Static Shock show, he had to deal with his friends’s dad who didn’t like him
So your saying you see race? Interesting...
My rule of thumb is:
-If a character's race is important to their story, don't change their race.
-If a character's race is noticeable in their story, weigh your motivations and reasons for changing their race. This requires heavy thinking.
-If a character's race is irrelevant to their story, WHO TF CARES LMAO. Like genuinely who gives a shit. Go wild.
but even then the argument of Hazel being a raced swap character is utter nonsense because *SHE'S A NEW CHARACTER*
i swear i saw a different person with a homestuck pfp make this exact comment on a different video about race swapping
"don't raceswap! Just make original black characters"
"This original black character is woke and pandering and a raceswap"

What blows my mind is how the guy even admits that Hazel and Timmy are 2 entirely different characters, but justifies calling Hazel a race-swapped Timmy Turner because both characters serve the role as the MC of their respective series.

Falk himself I wish had a comic based on his life, it's absolutely hilarious. The comic was only *half* his legacy. Most comic artists never really got out of The Bronx/SF/San Diego areas, see. But Falk had loads of respect from contemporaries and academic peers because of "his travels" and he was always bringing back wild tales from his "trips." Hazel really fits the lonely kids because her brother left to college and she wanted to fit in with the new neighborhood. Also, her parents are pretty supportive too, and they aren't as useless and obnoxious as Timmy's parents, which is a nice change of pace.

This is pretty dang stupid and, as I said on Cartoonshi’s vid, Hazel deserves a chance to be her own character and I do not know anything she could have in common in Timmy that other kids could have… Including having Cosmo and Wanda as FairyOdd Parents, as plenty of other kids have had them as their fairies.
To be fair, Timmy Turner would absolutely wish to be black so he could say the N word.

5.he thinks Rise of the tmnt movie was bad (boo)
6.the whole argument of Hazel being a race-swapped version of TImmy is like saying MIles Morales is a race-swapped version of Peter Parker
having said all that, im not going to harass him 24/7 on some bad internet program but i will say this one thing...if you ever really REALLY need to talk and make a well-rounded analysis and critique on a show then talk about THE SHOW ITSELF and NOT about the character that you have no right to trash on because its a new character and not the OG one because of the race-swap (and watch the show for the second time idk)
💯
Don’t forget his completely original and unique take on Teen Titans Go! that hasn’t been stated by anyone else.
It genuinely astounds me how many people love to use her as an example when they haven't even done the bare minimum research into her character (and by that I mean READ THE SOURCE MATERIAL)

that South Park special has done WAY more damage to media literacy than I think Matt and Trey intended.
Elaborate? I don't watch south park.
@@IceFireofVoid interesting. Thanks!

I still can not believe he used Uncle Ruckus in his "I'm not racist I have black friends" bit. Like you can't make that up.
Timmy and Hazel aren’t even the same kid. How is that race swapping 😭?

You are one of the few TH-camrs I always enjoy seeing on my timeline and tuning into, even if I don’t comment, because of that good will bone in you. You’re awesome!
what’s super ironic is that he’s using april o’neil as an example of race swapping to justify his argument when in reality she was originally a biracial woman (half black/half irish). in the comics where she first appeared she was poc but then the 80’s show made her a red haired white woman. the new tmnt shows just switch her back to her original ethnicity
so he’s using a character that hasn’t been race swapped, as an example of characters who have been raced swapped
So basically he dislikes the show because it's a black main character. Sounds bad in that wording.
It's not a remake or a reboot. It's a sequel it happens after canonically

@@bluebaron6858 yes. Its similar to marvel and dc. I don’t know how this is relevant to the conversation?
This!
"Evolved for the better" riight

@@blueclube30000 you do understand that the reason the racist said those things is cause static is black right? Just cause other people can related doesn’t disprove the point.
