A Old Timer sharp finger field dresses. Everything 😊
I won't disagree! The Sharpfinger has a long history and is loved by many. Thanks for watching, David.
Schrade is now Chinese sadly, but Bear & Sons does make a great Sharpfinger pattern here in the USA and there's actually a new American made " Old Timer " series ( they really don't resemble the originals though) that are being made in the US for the Schrade brand by B&S and of course their Sharpfinger pattern is one they're rebranding.
If you're in the market for a new Schrade Sharpfinger, I'd probably get that one since they're American made.
Im in the process of getting a custom sharpfinger looking forward to itadding it to my edc collection @TylerSnyder305
@@TylerSnyder305Old Timer is actually making a US made Sharpfinger in 1095 I believe?
@@addicted2tone349
Bear & Sons is making it for the Schrade Old Timer brand ( the real Schrade ceased to exist in '04 ) but I don't know whether it's SS or 1095.
If the owners of the Schrade name knew anything about the name they owned or cared the OT knives would either all be in 1095 or marked Schrade + to denote the SS blades.
Bird and trout's are my favorite belt knives to carry.
I mostly carry a B&T just because I happen to like them but as somebody who exclusively carries 2 handed traditional pocket knives they are definitely appreciated when I need a one handed blade.
My favorites are a Queen model 85 ( that little queen you have is a modern #85 ) from the 1920's, a 1985 Western model 628, a GEC H205 that I had rehandled in stag, and my latest is a beautiful Moki Bird & Trout 2.0 that I thought was beautiful enough to pay the $200 for.
If you want a really small ultralight B&T the smallest I have is the Buck 160 smidgen which is an excellent little knife, they were never expensive and while discontinued they can be had for not too much on Ebay.
I really love the late 60's Western F48A that I was given as a teenager too, but I don't tend to think of it as a B&T because it's larger than the patern 28 and because they had the smaller 48B.
Some would consider it one though and it's an excellent knife, I've whittled so much with it over the years.
I also really love the Buck 102 woodsman, it's not terribly small and the 116 caper is the smallest model in the 100 series but Buck does consider it a B&T so I can't argue with them.
A little bigger than I tend to think of, but I know some people who consider it the best small game knife ever made.
You should probably add a Western 48B or later 628 to your collection, the 80's 628 is great and can be found in really good condition at a reasonable price .
Thanks for the feedback, Tyler! I've got a ways to go in rounding out the collection, but little by little I should get there. You name some wonderful knives. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
Great collection of bird and trout knives, the buffalo handles on that case is sweet. Thanks for sharing Tom, be safe.
I am really developing a fondness for the buffalo horn, and Case did a great job on this knife. Thanks for watching, Seppiedog!
Love your collection!
Very well presented too.
Thanks for your kind words, my friend. I appreciate you dropping by.
Good video! I like that you showed where each knife is made!
Thanks, NR! Glad you enjoyed the video. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Nice Collection Tom👍 A good friend of mine who turned 80 this year showed Me the 2 Knives He used for processing Deer & Elk hunting for Decades. Both were old CASE’ folding Trappers! The oldest One was worn out & retired . The other has seen much use. Thanks for sharing! Best! Dwayne
Wow, those knives sure earned their keep! Thanks for watching, CET!
My uncle is in his 60’s and has used either the Case Trapper or the Sod Buster Jr. I showed him the Case Mini Finn he said he liked it and would try that on deer he’s never liked a big knife for cleaning deer.
Fixed blades! Bird and Trout! Those are all beauties Tom. A really nice collection. I do believe this is my new, most favorite Knife Delights video. I think I’ll go watch it again! Have a blessed Monday. 🙏 Cheers, Dubya
You have my permission to watch it as many times as you'd like. No extra charge! lol. I appreciate your enthusiasm and support, Dubya.
😎👍
Nice collection! I do like the looks of the Marbles👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks, Radar. Yes, the Marbles is a pretty cool knife. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
I like all of them. I had a bird N Trout knife while in the boy Scouts and demonstrated it's usefulness, often.
They are quite useful for a variety of tasks. Thanks for watching, Albert.
😂those were some pretty sweet blades for the smaller side of "camping" knives. Thanks for sharing.
Sweet indeed! Any many uses for them. Thanks for dropping by, my friend.
What a fantastic collection. I have a special interest in the Bird and Trout knife. I has 2-3 in my collection and always on the lookout for the vintage ones. Happy hunting .
And Happy Hunting for you! They are fun to find, and the hunt is fun also. Thanks for watching, Dennis.
I like the Marbles, sweeping tip blade, for skinning. Used one just like that one in Washington St. Skinning elk.
Great feedback, papajeff. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
One of my first knives as an adult was a bird and trout knife. I got it in 1984 and it’s still my favorite. It is made by Randall and it looks unique. I have a couple of Western vintage knives in this style that my Grandfather owned. They are great.little knives. Thanks!
Oh wow, a Randall! I'm sure its a great knife, and now has a great history to it. Thanks for watching, my friend.
I have a Western very similar to that. It has the same handle with a slightly different blade and no hole in the rear of the handle. The sheath is identical though. Had since I was a kid in the 70’s for fishing. Given to me by my dad. Great video. Thanks.
You have quite a treasure, Blues! Its great that you have a knife from your childhood. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Keep up the good work KD !!
Thanks for your kind words, Josh. I appreciate you support, my friend
Great looking knives.
Thanks, Mr Blues. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
I have an old Western with a red none handle I absolutely love it
Nice! I haven't seen one of those. Thanks for watching, my friend.
This was a great video, so much fun talking steel.
It sure is, MA! Thanks for watching, my friend.
The design of those knives have been perfect for me’ at 64 a retired steelworker and lifetime hunter & Mountaineer Blades of that design for me have served countless tasks.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Stuart! I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Nice collection. Thanks for sharing. I’m trying to catch up on some of the videos I’ve missed. Thanks again. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
You're welcome, Tim. I appreciate you watching, and I understand about trying to catch up! (I'm always behind.)
Great collection. Smaller fixed blades can be more useful than most people think, and are definitely very pocket friendly.
I agree with all that you said. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Great collection, Tom! Thank you for the look and related information. Have a great day!
You're welcome, PEDC. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
I have a Western small hunter or bird and trout that I bought new in 1981, when I was 10 years old. I've never used it on anything.
Nice! You have a real gem there to treasure! Thanks for watching, Rick.
Great selection of B&T blades!! I agree that Bear and Son had them backwards! Thanks for sharing, have a great week!!
Lol. I think the came out with the small hunter first, and then decided to make a small hunter, but then had to name it a B&T. Thanks again for the wonderful gift, Jerry.
@@knifedelights7473 You're very welcome brother!!
What's funny is that their Bird & Trout is just a caping knife.
Many companies sell this pattern as a caping knife, and it's exactly what you'll see as the caping knife in just about every one of those cheap game processing sets in the plastic case.
Yea, I ordered one of the B&T when Bear& Sons came out with it and thought it was a bit large for that style.. maybe I'll order the other model.. they're decent knives, and made in the USA.. hard/ impossible to find many of the other USA made knives, and as much as I love Case, I use my knives pretty hard, and I'd feel bad if/ when I lose it 😮
Some fantastic looking knives Tom! Very nice collection! Thanks as always for sharing!
You're welcome, David. This sub-collection grew and grew before I knew it! Thanks for watching, my friend.
Love B&T knives! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome, Ray. They are little gems, aren't they? Thanks for watching my friend.
Those are super cool! Great size for EDC. Thanks Tom!⚔️👍🏻
I agree that they are a great size for EDC. Thanks for watching, BB.
What a terrific review and an incredible collection. Thank you for this informative video Sir .
You're welcome, Dan! I appreciate you watching, my friend.
great collection keep the videos comeing
I'll keep 'em coming, Timmy! I enjoy sharing my collection, and I'm glad you enjoy seeing the knives. Thanks for watching, my friend.
A great collection Tom!
Thanks, Randy. I appreciate you dropping by, my friend.
Vintage case is nice!
I agree, Brian. I was happy to find that one. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Great collection and video Tom!!
Thanks, John! I appreciate you dropping by, my friend.
Awesome collection and great video!
Thanks, Ronald. Glad you enjoyed the peek at these fantastic knives. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
Thank you for these fun knife videos.
You're very welcome, my friend. I enjoy making them for you. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful knives Tom. You have a wonderful week brother. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks, Jeff. And you have a Delightful Day, brother! I appreciate you stopping by.
@@knifedelights7473 you are very welcome my friend! Will do!
Awesome video, buddy!👍
Thanks, David. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
I have a Case from the 40's ,just love it.
Pretty cool knives, aren't they? Thanks for watching, my friend.
So I got a 5 knife lot off eBay a few months back, and there was an old rusty bird and trout with it. Other than rust, the blade was probably 90 percent full and it has nice thick bone handles. After I cleaned it up, I could make out “western” so I was happy to own one, I love my western slipjoints. I gotta get a sheath for it, I like the ones that cover the handle too, you just drop it in. But I’m liking the size. Cool swedge on the end of that western you have, nice touch. I enjoy viewing your knife collection, we have a lot of the same vintage stuff. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed the video, Joel. Congrats on getting your Western. Thanks for watching, my friend.
A young fellow down the road asked me to make knife sheaths for him and his girl friend, his was a Solingen made leather handled hunting knife, and hers was a Western Bird and Trout knife with ivory or fake ivory handle.
Wow, that's cool. Thanks for sharing, Nathan.
I just came across this video for the first time and I love your video. As an avid trout fisherman I have been looking for a new knife and this has been very helpful.
Great! Glad I could be of some help. Please feel free to check out my playlists as I have many videos on fixed blades, etc. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Stacked leather handles are my # 1 fav handle material
They sure are nice! I have done videos on Marbles fixed blades. Marbles was the first maker to use stacked leather, and created the first "hunting knife" as we know it. Thanks for watching, Grizz.
Tops Bull Trout is my personal choice .
I'll bet that's a dandy knife. I really like Tops, but I don't actually own one. Thanks for dropping by, David.
Excellent look at some nice Bird & Trout knives.
Thanks, Pinkie. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
@@knifedelights7473 I ended up winning an eBay auction for a Western Bird & Trout with a stag handle yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting the vintage knife for my collection. I'm going to keep my eye open for one of the Black Beauties, like the one you have. The blade and handle on that one are really cool.
Nice video thanks from the UK 🇬🇧 😊
Thanks, Anthony. Its great to have another viewer from "across the pond." I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
Thanks for showing us your bird & trout knives. I've been looking forward to it since you mentioned it a while back.
You're welcome, Mark! I know it took awhile, but hopefully it was worth the wait. Thanks for watching, my friend.
@@knifedelights7473 It was definitely worth the wait. I appreciate the chance to see a wider variety of Bird & Trout knives and learn a bit about them. Besides, given your comments about your project backlog I knew it might be a while. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of those projects are.
This was the first of your vids I have seen and I loved it I am very fond of these smaller versatile blades and while I only have a few of American made Bird and Trout blades ( and I do intend to have a few more ) I do have several from Sheffield Steel that are of similar design and versatility .I am not sure I have a favourite but they are a very useful addition to any pack .I look forward to more of your work and insight .Thank you .
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Richard. Feel free to check out my playlists with my catalog of videos. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Excellent stuff! Great video 👍
Thanks, Jeremy! I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Great video and great knives. Those Case knives are sweet!
Thanks, Dave! I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Nicely presented , some H
Andy Knives ! 👍👍
Many uses for this sweet little fixed blade. Thanks for watching, Warren.
Great stuff friend, I have a Remington with a hard maple handle about 25 years when they were made in the USA👍😃✌️💪🇺🇸
That sounds like a great one to have! Thanks for watching, my friend.
From S Africa. This is a great collection. Good video.
Greetings, Russell! Its nice to hear from someone outside of the U.S. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Thank you. I have many knives, from Puma, Kershaw, Buck , Marttiini, Muella from Spain amongst many others. Now 70 years old and still love them all. Love the African bushveld but have travelled the world including USA. Ex SA Defence Force Medical Corps. Again loved your knives, all practical.
Thanks for sharing these, I have been enjoying the small fixed blades recently. I like to have a fixed blade EDC knife and to carry an 18 inch Bowie gets you some funny looks and in trouble with the local law enforcement. Have a great day and God bless.
Good point. They should be legal to carry just about everywhere. Thanks for watching, Stan.
These knives are beautiful & practical. They always put a gleam in my eye.
But I have found & I guess will always prefer a Case Slimline Trapper
Worked best for me. Also (out of production, a Buck 311 slim trapper was my favorite for 30yrs. I’m always afraid I’ll lose it so I retired it & went to case. My Buck is now in my (man’s curio cabinet) with my best memories.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I see that you got a lot of use out of the Buck 311. What a wonderful story. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Wonderfull. Thanks
You're welcome, Kevlar. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Very beautifully
Thanks for watching, my friend.
Nice collection Tom My favorite is the Grohmann #2 Bird and Trout
I've had my eye on the Grohmann also! It is such a great design. Thanks for watching, my friend. God bless.
I have one of those also, and it is my favorite fixed blade knife.
Case sells a combo that I have had my eye on.. it has the mini finn and a larger blade in a leather sheath. I am a traditional pattern guy and these knives are appealing.
I've seen those combos, and I agree that they are appealing. Thanks for watching, Hillbilly.
The knife I carry is self made and I call it a "bird and trout" knife due to it's smaller size and purpose of build. One of my favorite knife sizes to carry around...big enough to be useful for everything, not so bit it's clumsy and intrusive.
That's great that you can make your own knife to suit your personal needs! Thanks for sharing that, and thanks for watching, my friend.
I think the Buck 102 is a bit longer but is excillant for bird and trout. I have a couple of skeleton models that are vnot that good. Then again I can clean squirrels, rabbit and fish a pocket knife.
You're right about the 102. It was designed for use on small game, but is a little too big to be a "bird and trout." Thanks for watching, my friend.
I had a German one, it was a surgical scalpel.
Sounds like you had a good one. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Yeah! Like check out the new ones prices $200-$300. 😂
There's one in every price range! Thanks for watching, Peter.
👌👍
Thanks for watching, my friend.
Cool video. Thank you . Any thoughts on the Buck 102 as a bird n trout blade ?
The 102 was designed for small game, and it the closest thing to a B&T knife that Buck makes. But, to me, a traditional B&T is a much small knife. I have several videos on the Buck 102, including the history of it. Feel free to check out my Buck knives playlist. Thanks for watching, my friend.
I’ve always liked the case but I wish they hadn’t changed the sheath.
I agree, Matt. I'm not so keen on the "new" sheath design. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Have you ever looked at the ag Russell bird&trout knives?
I have not, but will do so! Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
Really beautiful knife collection ! The Marbles is very nice ! I recently purchased a Grohmann no 1 and i was thinking about buying their bird and trout ! Are you familiar with Grohmann ?
I am familiar with the Grohmann Canadian belt knife, but do not have one. (Its on my wish list) Thanks for watching, my friend.
I have a case pheasant knife. Buffaloe handle.is it a bird and trout knife? Great vidio.
Yes, the buffalo handled knife is the general bird and trout knife pattern. However, Case named it the Mini FINN. Thanks for watching, John.
Nice collection of bird & trouts Tom, I love em too. Keep an eye out for Westerns 628 & L28 with bone stag & leather respectively. I also like the slimline RR1407 and the Marttinni Condor at 3.5". Tom is the Buck 102 the closest to a bird & trout?
I'll keep and eye out for them, bdh. And yes, the 102 is the closest thing to a B&T by Buck. They were designed for small game. Thanks for watching, my friend.
What style of knife do you not get excited about collecting? :) Nice to see them together.
Well, now that I think about it, probably not many. Thanks for watching, Big Brother.
I can’t find to many in my area (if any.)
And it’s a shame as they are just a lovely size.
How many are still US made ?
Other than the vintage ones, they were all bought online. Good luck with your search. The only ones I have that were made in the USA are the Case and the Bear & Son.
Tom nice looking knives it's a shame that most are from China 😢be safe and GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸 🙏
Yes, it is a shame. But it is what it is. Thanks for watching, Howard.
comparison of old and new
Yes, and I find it interesting to compare the two. Thanks for watching, Kathleen.
good video...except ... the pop-ups at the end ...blocked the specs..
Oh, sorry about that. I forgot about the end screens. I'll keep that in mind next time. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
A small knife can handle BIG Fish. You bet.
You're right! Thanks for watching, my friend.
It's a kind of boning knife.
Yes, that would be a use for it! Thanks for watching, my friend.
Good subject! I just got my first bird and trout and love it brother !
Good stuff!!!😁👊🏻
Thanks, H4H. They are handy dandy little fixed blades. Thanks for watching, my friend.
