this goes back further than 2021. They started off calling them viking knives, to cash in on the viking craze around the show Vikings. Then they switched to calling them japanese knives, same knife. I think that was like 2013

To me the red flag is 70% discount ads from small companies. You see, big stores use discounts to lure people in so they would buy something else too, sometimes they want to get rid of old stock. But these kinds of small companies don't sell anything else so even at the "discount" they still have large enough profit margin to justify advertising. So what is the production cost and how much we are paying for ads and the "brand" name?
In short, if you make hefty profit from 70% discount, what's the point of the full price?

      @@somedud1140 this is very true
Store wide sales are fine, because like you said, it’s because they are trying to get rid of old stock
But a 70% sale on the only product from a company is definitely a red flag
A lot of the time, this “sale” isn’t an actual discount, but just lying
Which is illegal, but I don’t think husk is worried about legal troubles
I have a feeling that if something comes up, they will just disappear and reappear as another brand with the same exact product

Dont defend those youtube influencers. They actually used the knife and you can clearly see them struggle to cut through bananas, tomatoes ect, i saw the car repair guy struggle to cut through packaging plastic with it. They obviously knew at that moment that the knife is not good yet they chose to continue. The harsh reality is that their honest opinion can be bought. Cant trust them after that. And you know whats worse? They have millions of subscribers, they would survive skipping one sponsor. But they didnt, because they value money more than integrity and they know thier subscribers are fools who will accept an apology video.

Huusk again? I bought four of these in 2018 or 2019 for a costume gag I was doing. They are typical $10 fantasy knives widely available from China. The only thing wrong with them is all of the lies they tell to sell them, and the dopey multiple purchase discount. I am surprised so many people fall for it. That said, I think I paid $50 for the four of them. It saved me two or three hours of labor to make what I wanted out of aluminum. I still have them around somewhere. The wife uses one of them for digging in the garden.

Huusk knives is a totally unethical company. Back around 1999 or so I made the mistake of ordering one of their blades and they tried to make me pay for their “special” package where I was to “save” a great amount money so they sent me 8 of them and tried to make me pay for them. It took about a year to get them off my back and I had to threaten them with a federal fraud case before they just gave in and gave me the knives. It was a thoroughly disgusting experience. To boot, the blades are shyte.

Have to correct a detail for you there, as it's way worse than you think. HUUSK has been around for a looooong long time. They where, if I remember correctly, one of the first massively wide spread social media knife scams. I remember the "Nordic knfe"(or some such) ads on facebook still, and that was back in 2010/11 and again in 2013 as "Viking knife" everywhere because of the Vikings show. With the same near unusable and unpractical knife shown here. 1994 was the start of the company, and 2009 they opened factories in East Asian countries, where shortly after the scamming started en masse iirc. So Kamikoto did a HUUSK if anything. Not that that's any better.
Glad I saved my money for my Nesmuk and Kai knives. They'll probably outlast me.😋

was gifted one for christmas a couple of years ago. at the time it was marketed as a butcher knife, which was more believable to me because the blade shape and finger hole grip could potentially aid in skinning and breaking down some meats. I raise meat rabbits on the property and can butcher them just fine, but i can do that just as well with any of my kitchen knives, or fixed blades for that matter. i could definitely tell it was a cheap scam knife when i got it and havent even used it enough to get dull. it's sitting in a box in the shed. i've seen the same knife advertised 100 different ways since then

I’ve held one. It billed as a kitchen knife, but it’s anywhere between 4 & 5 mm (5/32-3/16), which is the thicknesses I make hunting / outdoor knives with.
It’s clumsy knife, but you know what it has going for it? It’s cheap, and there’s so many more people prepared to buy cheap knives than anything else.
It’s so cheap they were able to send free ones to every sell out they could who would talk about it on their social media. You get what you pay for and this knife is like all the other mass produced garbage out there.

I got scammed into buying 3 of them for presents when advertised on one of my favorite fishing shows. They came in a nice presentation box saying they were made in China, when the ads on TH-cam said they were made in Japan. When I finally researched these knives I found the metal was pot steel. They are awkward to hold and none of my chef friends are going to use these. One of the cooks I know says they are fine to hang on a wall as an oddity and maybe the shape is good for skinning a large game animal if you keep a sharpener handy.

My Ma got me one for Christmas a year or two ago. Without even watching, I know some reasons are:
Blade is too short, throwing the weight off.
Handle is awkward and encourages you to ride up on it, further throwing off weight and leverage.
Blade is curved quite sharply, especially towards the end, making it hard to dice efficiently on a cutting board.
The weight, leverage, and curve encourage you to cut with the base, putting your whole body behind it, which is much slower than chopping with the tip of a flat-edged knife.
Even if intended for meat like a cleaver is, the grip prevents you from getting the same momentum as swinging a cleaver would.
The curved blade also makes it hard to slide ingredients off of a board and into another vessel.
I love my Ma, but I really prefer just a standard $20 knife for chopping ingredients. It's no better for meat since a sharp knife doesn't need the body behind it, it just slices.

As someone who has worked in commercial kitchens for over 24 years, I agree that the edge's curved shape will make work more taxing as you'll increase your wrist movement. Proper kichen knife's edge should be only very slightly curved, not as much as this Huusk knife. For work my knife set are combinations of Shun and Wusthof for over a decade and they don't disappoint. By the way, this Huusk knifes are making another commercial appearance again but under new name. It's called Matsato knife. You'll see it in the usual youtube ads.

    - it makes it very obvious which youtubers are sellouts and are to avoid in the future, their greed basically made them shoot their own leg.
    - never trust "reviews" on the seller's website EVER!

My dad fell for this a few years ago, and bought one each for my brother and me as a present. Ergonomics is s**t, the steel is s**t. These are even worse than the Rambo survival knives of the eighties (Be ware of cheap copies). I left a one star review on Trust pilot, which was taken down after a short while because I couldn't produce a receipt. That could be seen as fair in and of it self, but there's no way to justify removing negative reviews from customers who could produce a receipt (of which there must be thousands).

I made the purchase then was given options to add more knives and sheathes at a discounted rate. However, when you click the option to just look at it, it automatically bills you and ships it to you since they already have your cc information.
So I ended up with 12 of these amazing knives. I called to see about a refund upon return and a woman answered the phone. It certainly wasn’t an office setting as there were chickens clucking in the background. I did not get my refund.
In the end, it’s a nice POS knife, never to be used in a kitchen.

Unless you apply a consistent measurable force that's repeatable on all tested knives the results are meaningless.

I got this knife at a bargain bin store (Amazon returns) on 6 dollar day because it looked cool. I definitely overpaid. It's not ergonomic at all. 440 steel has its place, but in 2023, we have hundreds of better knife steels. The finger hole location makes it awkward to use. I put it in the center console of my boat and use it as a bait cutter.

420J2 or 3Cr13 are bargain stainless steels that are serviceable but require frequent sharpening and if you pay more than $8 for blades made of those steels you're getting ripped off.

I left a reasonably polite comment, critical (called it a scam) of the Lomi composter (sponsor on a YT channel) and got banned for a bit on YT for breaking their community guidelines! YT seems to censor anyone disrupting their bottom line (cash, baby!), so no, your advice about 'commenting' is a bit naive.

I own this knife but not as a Huusk. It came as the boning knife in a £30 double pair of kitchen knives I brought from amazon. Considering what I paid and the fact that I mainly bought the pair for the larger chefs knife, its really good!

Good review. Two notes: If you try to gauge the quality of any consumer good, it's best to order multiples. This will reduce the chance that you review an item that slipped quality control, and you'll have a better idea if the quality is like this in general. The other point is that it shouldn't really matter where the company / producer of the knife is from. When they say it's "Japanese inspired" it's not necessary that they are from Japan or based in Japan. I felt like this point distracted from the very solid evidence that these knives are just average.

My first thought is that it's just an idiot tax so it's all good and fair, but then I realized that this effects the market as a whole. As long as the majority of people buy garbage products, the market will be flooded with them.
Life is too short to have to spend hours to research product after product until you finally stumble on something worth while... or you run out time and patience and just buy something you know is crap to just get the job done.

My doubts about this knife were always about food safety questions, that blade seems built to catch and hold food and bacteria, also, what is that finish and how is it going to stand up to the scrubbing that irregular surface requires, finally that wood handle is obviously not food safe, but is it acceptable for even home use?

Ever since I bought a Huusk knife, I've been bombarded by spam emails from them. Over the top amounts.
Also, as soon as I took the knife out of the box I noticed how unbalanced and clumsy it felt. The hole in the blade even seems a little dangerous to me - sharp edged and a potential finger breaker if one was to slip. Never use it anymore and never will.

I saw this "knife" for 80% sale, I figured I'd buy it, but it felt like a scam. I looked a lot on the website first, and saw the photos were edited. They literally photoshopped their knife into the chefs hands. That's when I started looking for reviews, of people who knew what they were doing, not just laymen who think it's ok because it was cheap, and all proper reviews said the same thing "scam, from start to finish, made from pot steel, and the knife has nothing to do with anything japanese, they tried to sell it earlier as a viking knife, so it's a scam."

Thanks for your video. I saw this knife and had some of the same thoughts you mentioned: not designed as a kitchen knife,
too much of the 'oooh, aaaah' factor (the common person would think this is the knife to have). I have seen knives ten times
better than this which were rejected due to poor workmanship, wrong grade of steel, and oh, if the 'common person' does not
know how to properly sharpen a knife, it'll end up being replaced.
Huusk knives can keep their copyright, patent, whatever...they can keep their knives too.
    Thanks again....

I have three other knives. I questioned their ads, but it looks so cool. They’re definitely not my best knives, and if I believe their ads, they are greatly disappointing. I wrote this before I heard your commentary. This knife is one that I’ve selected to take with me if I go camping. If it gets damaged or destroyed, I’m not gonna cry about it, or run out and replace it . I’m looking forward to seeing how close you are to my estimation.
😂😂😂😂😊 it appears that I am correct. it’s a cool looking knife, but it’s definitely far from my best. I’ve used it where I didn’t really care if it got damaged or not. I still have my favorite brands, unfortunately, as of yet, I cannot purchase any of them or use them if I did purchase them, because, I cannot convince anyone to take care of my knives if they come into my kitchen. I have a lady that comes in once a week and does housekeeping, she will throw my knives into a drawer, despite telling her do not soak them in water, wash them, dry them, and put them on the magnet knife hanger. I do have some good knives that are afraid to take out. I use them rarely. The last time I took a knife out, was for carving a roast and a church social. Despite the fact that I had it wrapped up, and obviously not available, it was found and used. The next time I saw it, it was in the sink with a bunch of other dishes rattling around. The last time I took a chance on abuse of my knives. 20 years ago, I had a wonderful collection of fantastic knives, I was living at my mothers house taking care of her, my nephew came to live with us, and help out because I was not strong enough. he would put my knives in the dishwasher despite my protests. he mocked my knives because there was a time he was making six figures, and he had knives/knife sets that cost $4000-5000. All his knives were chipped and dented. If he treated his eyes like that, what would he do with mine? He had no respect. One of the knives was very cheap, one of my oldest, and the blade almost refused to get dull. I used it for years cleaning fish. That was the first knife to go.
