  • As the sun began to dip below the Pacific coastline the lights came on in the Home Depot Center, working towards the last heats of the first workout at the 2010 CrossFit Games.
The anticipation was palpable. Everyone in attendance wanted to see the top athletes from Games' past do battle with the top athletes from the Regionals, and set the tone for the biggest CrossFit event in history.
The first of what was to be nine events throughout the weekend was a high power, high skilled couplet:
    9-7-5 Reps for time of:
    Muscle-ups
    Squat snatch (135/95 lb.)
Coming in to the final heat, Neal Maddox and Camille Leblanc-Bazinett set the best times early in the night with 3:46 and 7:02, respectively.
Stepping on to the floor for the first of the final heats were the women. With the likes of Alicia Connors, Jasmine Dever, Ashleigh Moe, Candice Ruiz, Carey Kepler, Lindsey Smith, Michelle Kinney, Heather Bergeron, Rebecca Voigt, Christy Phillips, Annie Thorisdottir and Kristan Clever all lining up to do battle their was sure to be fireworks.
In the mens heat Vic Zachary, James FitzGerald, Chris Hogan, Blair Morrison, Jason Khalipa, Rob Orlando, Moe Kelsey, Peter Egyed, Tommy Hackenbruck, Mikko Salo, Matt Chan and Chris Spealler all took the stage to finish out the evening.

Amazing to see the evolution of the standards from 2010 through today. I'm a CrossFit believer, but a lot of the snatches for these guys in the last set of 5 would be straight up No Rep'd today. Glad to see they've tightened up the quality control.

Strength and endurance is exactly what Crossfit is about! The muscles are just a bonus ;)

this was 2 years ago. you rarely see reps like this anymore at the games. the competition is so elite now that you have to be ruthlessly efficient at everything, when your heart rate is jacked through the roof. just watch rich froning do Isabel at this years games, right after doing Elizabeth. that is how crossfit can, and should be.

I dont really understand the 135/95 LB - what does it mean? Are they squating 135 LBS or 95 or how is it to be understood?

i see that all these crossfitters are soo ripped and lean, and I was wondering how that is soo? Not at all am i attacking crossfit I just dont know much about the concept except that They do alot of olympic movements. I mean hell they look like natural bodybuilders, its beautiful, but the type of training that crossfitters do, doesn't it go against the grain of training for muscle? Are they not training for strength-endurance by doing such high reps? just curious to know

Wow!...these cats are incredible...Im very suprised there are no spotters of some sort...one dude fell forward 20 ft and almost took out a camera man. Would hate to see some cat completely exhausted drop the weight on his head or neck because he's too tired to toss it or get out of the way. Just watching these guys is exhausting.

Look at the crowd difference between the 2010 and 2013 games. People say CrossFit is a fad, get real, it's here to say.

Why the heck are these people just throwing everything around? No control or concern for long-term health and safety, it's ridiculous.

If you are looking to get ripped, you should do a Google search "Ripped X Beast". That can help you get the body you deserve.

There is no way that doing overhead snatches like that when your tired as all hell, can be considered safe in any way, shape or form. These guys threw form completely out of the window by the end. Why would you subject your back and shoulders to that sort of stress and potential damage? I'm new to all this crossfit stuff, and this does not seem safe or practical at all.

It's nice that lifting weights as fast as possible has rallied some spectators and fans around it over the past few years. However, it is a complete joke when comparing it to real athletes such as basketball, football, sprinting. I am no fan of MMA but even MMA is more of a sport than crossfit. It should be called extreme gym time for roid heads. But at least it gives people an outlet for their energy and keeps some of them out of trouble. LMAO that it is a televised event.
