Grandpa took good care of his tools. Revamp that baby and use it. Keep it stock, just freshened up with new wires, etc. Or, restore it and show it. That would be fantastic at shows.
I would use that truck every day keep it original. Change the fluids new plugs new wiring put her on the road that’s what built America trucks like that . 🇺🇸👍🏻
I appreciated the video and your family history. You cant go wrong any way you go to keep the truck alive but keeping it as is and fixing it up would be fantastic. look forward to more videos.
Keep it stock 😊refresh the bed and take it to shows and signage at the shop under cover. Nothing will compare to it holding ur label out front on nice weather days 😊
dump bodies are invaluable whether on farm or around the shop, don't want to lose that. Its in beautiful shape for its age. A few modern conveniences and this will turn out to be a gem...
If you could find a 5500 or a 6500 chassis and put the cab and dump body on something like that would be totally awesome. Thank you for sharing your family history with us. Granddad sounded like a great guy
I'm pretty sure ALL Chevy LUV trucks were Isuzu trucks from '72 forward. I know the '94 S10 I owned was also sold as an Isuzu as well (with a slightly reshaped body.) Apparently, this collaboration continue(s) through the Colorado models.
That's a hard decision. As much as keeping it original and restoring it would be cool, I think you have to do what is needed to make it a work horse. If you want to keep it original, I would fix it up to be the scrap/dump run truck but make it run like new with a complete overhaul. Otherwise I would say to frame swap it but with a dump bed that has removable heavy duty sides for versatility. No matter what, honor it by using it.
I enjoyed the family history. As for the truck, my vote is to keep it original. There are not many trucks out there that old that were taken care of like this one. Most are nothing but rusted scrap, that is held together by 4 things. Duck tape, bubble gum, bailing wire, and a prayer.
Nice…. I had a LUV, a little older and gas that I used a lot even though it was terribly rusty. I always wanted a diesel one. That’s a real gem! I also had a C60 but newer that I used mostly for firewood and would have loved that dump bed! I hope that you keep it original, it’s a fine example and in such great condition. There’s plenty of rusted frame, etc. ones that you could put on a newer chassis….
@@BASIN_NATION it’s yours to do what you want with but since you asked our opinion it’s in such incredible shape it warrants a good cleaning and you just may look at it in a whole new light, good luck…
It’s an amazing truck and to look as nice as it does after all these years. Grandpa definitely took care of his business. It would be awesome to see this truck fully restored with original look. But either way you go with it it’s going to be awesome. Look forward to more videos
Love the truck guy's. I've hauled a lot of corn and soybeans in a truck just like it. Sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family. Thanks for the video stay safe guy's.
Fun fact: EVERY single person born in Iceland is related to each other at least down to the 8th generation - simply because there aren't many people around at all times. It's just a numbers game. ✌️ Even today Iceland has less than 400000 inhabitants. And thanks to the U.S. Army they had a boatload of leftover Jeeps after WWII - which started the love for offroading and is the origin for the Formula Offroad. 🤟
@@BASIN_NATION That's a question that would require some thinking it's cool as hell as is and with the family memories I'm going through similar thoughts after I've recently receiving my departed fathers 74 dodge d100 everyone is telling me put a 5.7 hemi but I'm old-school and want to keep it old-school like my dad had it all my life only difference is I won't be shy to roast some tires after I get it back up to life and drive the wheels off it
I went to GM Technical Training in 1981 for this platform. If I remember, it has a Kiki diesel injection pump. I still have all the manuals. Didn't see a whole lot of them, but the were built like a Japanese tank. The bodies rusted away here in the midwest. Nissan also produced a competing model as well.
Truth! I’m thinking we get this cleaned up as much as possible and assess what we want to replace or add. Power steering, brakes, throttle body 🤷🏻♂️ or just engine swap right away
Years ago, I worked for a farmer that had a 50's model GMC with a 302 V-6 in it. Was not fast at all. But you dump the clutch with a load of wheat in it. That truck would almost stand on the back bumper. In that grain truck if you needed to teach someone what torque, that was the one to do it with.
Love it like Grandpa loved it. If you change anything, maybe change the bed suit your purposes. Otherwise keep it stock. Those old straight 6;s have tons of torque.
I would clear the cab and keep the original Patina. Drop a Duramax in where that 292 inline six sits, add either a NV4500 or 5600 transmission, and talk to Marmon and Harrington about making it a 4x4 but definitely keep the dump bed.
If it was me u I would keep it original as a way to pay respect and honor the family history. To me there isn't a lot of old school traditional trucks like that around anymore
Such a great story about the family and the history of the truck. I am up in the air one side wants to see it original and the other side is more practical and wants to see the body swap onto a more modern running gear. Do the body swap and keep the dump bed!
Keep it kinda original. Maybe a Cummins driveline. Put a new dump contractor bed so you can dump or pickup pallets. Maybe a red patina on the bed to keep the look. Probably bag the rear end. And when I say Cummins I mean 12v. Gotta sound like a truck
Truck is mint so I'd say keep original. Although a dodge swap is cool, it just is hard to chop up a survivor like this. Find a rougher rig and swap? Keep this one for sure though.
It's an extended cab. short bed, which is what I really want to drive but the cab is toast. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in my 1 ton dually which, as you probably know, is a bus. Extended cab, long bed. Being in Maine really sucks and retirement income doesn't help. Love the work!!@@BASIN_NATION

Do a Frame off Restoration with a modern Izzu engine swap, sort of a tip of the hat to the little red LUV.
Well the motor might be a Cummins but a frame off resto would be cool

Not gonna touch that paint. Just clear it for sure
Keep it original beautifully truck
If you have a use for it as is, leave it alone and use it. It would make a cool 4x4 roll back with Cummins power.
You like it cause it is orignal. So keep it that way. Only can be orignal once. Doesn't have to be 100% orginal but close.
It’s gonna stay 90% original I think. New brakes, new fuel delivery, new odds and ends but it’s going to be 90% og
