Swapping the cab seems like the most sensible option... No messing with drive train angles, rerouting and replumbing fifty miles of lines. PLUS the ease of having off the shelf components, God forbid you find yourself broken down.
I’m doing an extremely similar swap. 66 C10 on top of a 96 Dodge Cummins 3500. My recommendation? Do the c50/c60 swap instead like these folks because that step height at the base of the cab will make up for the different frame mount heights. Mine is coming out way taller and has more frame exposed than I like. I’m looking into if I can add the steps to the cab and change the fender over to make it more like C50/60
Not gonna lie, little disappointed to see the cab swap instead of a C60 build. I get it it’s easier, that’s why everyone does it. I’d love to see a build where the cab and frame stay together despite the extra work.
if i were there, i would have definitely voted for Aaron's idea of cab swap, way safer and time saving. also Sam is doing the right job wearing PPE! this build's gonna be awesome
Good call on the chassis swap instead of adding all those Ram parts to the C-60 chassis. SO MICH TIME SAVED! And like Aaron said, down the road if something breaks, off the shelf parts are available. Nice job fellas!
You ALL are killing it! I was noticing Sam wearing a respirator, glasses, gloves on, and had his hair tied back almost the whole time! Did he have earplugs in too? He's a keeper!
Great job young men 🎉🎉🎉I myself back in the mead 1960's I done the same thing i did engines and transmission swaps in different makes and models together with welder and torch and created amazing builds and enjoyed every moment of LIFE AND ENJOY THE REST OF YOURS AS WELL. BLESS YOU ALL
Another one!!! I guess I can just keep saying since I do every Sunday I love your guys videos and what you do! Look forward to seeing next weeks as well!!
If you are able to do it, you will want to be up in Alaska in the fall. It is beautiful up here that time of year! It is a crapshoot of when it happens though.
Cole I got to let you know Aaron is definitely one of your most valued employees and I see that the rest of your employees seem to be doing some great things also I've enjoyed this segment😮😊
This is definitely the best route to go for a vehicle that is intended to be on the road away from home for extended periods of time. Propitiatory/hand made parts suck when you have issues trying to get back on the road.
Like what you are planning on the old chevy truck...as far as the mini Tonka how about make it look like an old kenworth or freightliner cab over and build a custom narrow fifth wheel camper my shop could help with interior on the camper..I see a lot of tiny home why not a tiny camper? Keep up the good work
Sam your doing a great job I have seen some car bodies put on 4X4 frames and I think this transformation is going to look like it came from the factory
I'll be honest originally I thought I were gonna swap the c60 cab to the other chassis but then I realized otherwise ......but definitely that really seems like the best bet to save time and have a newer model everything under the truck ......makes maintenance a lot easier when time goes by
Looking good wasn't sure I was gonna like Aaron cutting the firewall to lower the cab, but after seeing it mocked up I like it. Sam as a person who didn't take care of his lungs and is paying for it, kudos for wearing your PPE. Because I didn't, at age 45 I now got asthma and other issues. That 292 I would put on a hotrod site or market place to get some money back. Also the 66 frame might make you some money as well.
I’m thinking Sam is the cat’s meow. He already has common sense. You can tell he knows what he’s doing. Seems like he has no problem having people show him what’s up. The biggest thing is he got all that and he still young!!! He’s going places in life. That’s about the most love I can show boy. He’s got going on. Just don’t get stupid Sam.
Btw: that scene from "Spaceballs" at Mr. Rental never gets old! It is so damn hilarious that I wonder how the actors kept their sh*t together through the whole scene... 😂 My god, that movie is sooooooo endlessly quoteable... 😁
Looks good so far . Smart choice on the cab swap . One thing I did on my 1948 Chevy 6400 (same size like yours) is I made the nose flip forward .I open the hood , pull a couple bolts and unplug the electric and the fenders and grill tilt forward . The radiator stays in place . It’s a game changer when you have to work in the engine bay . It was really easy and I don’t have half the resources you have . I was going to use the same front axle you have to 4wd my 81 Dodge Trans-Van camper . I wanted to keep the coil springs . To save on a bunch of fab work I figured out that I could use a couple Ford E-350 radius arms I guess you call them . One mod would be to stretch them a bit then use 2 heim joints to connect them to the axle. Instead of rubber bushings , I’m sure there are polyurethane bushings out there .The bracket that the radius arms bolt into with the 2 bushing sandwich just unbolts from the frame . I think this will you a better ride than the stock short Dodge ones . If you want pics of my forward tilting front end just let me know .
I wonder how many purists will have an issue with the partial frame swap, it definitely makes sense, especially with the engine and trans upgrade which will need brakes upgrading to match. I think Sam has been great from the beginning! The new press brake looks like a mighty beast in the background! 💪👍
Miles ahead ! Is the frame long enough ? if so just set the camper on 2 x 4's to level it out ! Running duelies ? Make sure you have mud flaps , it will save your trailer front !
I would much rather have the modern drivetrain, brakes, steering and everything it comes with. You won’t have to change the entire electrical system. I agree with Aaron. 😊
Turn the Tonka into a bouncing lowrider. Curb feelers, spoke rims glitter gold paint job the whole works. Robby Layton would have a blast painting it im sure.
Cab swap seems the best choice here. A part of me wishes you went with a ford frame, but even as a Ford guy i admit the cummins beats the powerstroke every time
l almost bought a 67' camaro in the late 70's that the straight 6 and 2 speed power glide in the center console. The car was low miles and minty fresh when l drove it and lve always regretted not buying it. lt was plenty fast and as fun to drive as the 69 SS/RS 396 4 speed l wound up with.
Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines. And on top of that, he just went into Harry's, and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS.. We are going to have to k24 swap the mini Truck..😂😂😂
I have done a few of these style swaps, the thing on the C60 is that it was designed for the motor to sit further down, when you swap it onto a pickup frame, the frame horns bend up and lift the engine higher. IMHO not the best setup because it creates the space issue that you are now facing, personally I would have stuck with the original frame and swapped everything over to it as then the engine could have sat further down under the cab, the stock ride height could have been retained, and then you have the option of either a 4 link or mounting a 4x4 front axle on the stock leafs, although that will lift it significantly if you do. But that is why you run into the clearance issues with the floor and firewall.
I do understand why you decided to do the cab swap onto the newer dodge chassis. Due to my location and registration/emissions requirements, I would have done the dodge drivetrain into the c60 chassis. Either way its gonna be SWEET!
Very interested in this as im sitting on my 1947 one ton dually Dodge project thinking of the same cab swap idea. Wondering what the width is on the 2013 Dodge frame rails, as ‘47 gets s tad narrow. I suspect ill cut the firewall to match the modern stuff. Props to you all, going to be awesome 🙌 also edited to say smart working Sam good on you.
Such a nice old survivor cab and chassis, you are a Blessed Man Living a good Life. I can almost see the Alaskan Landscape now. Are we there yet? 😂Are we there yet? You are Lucky to have MeatBall / PitBull & Tthe Young Blood on the Team, it’s Great for You but He Truly is the Real Winner. I’m confident He will Reflect Upon these Day’s , as The Best Day’s of His Expression😮, Speculation of Course.
Had you not done the cab swap, I would have suggested that before you went any further. You now have 1960s GMC vin with a 2013 Dodge drivetrain, suspension, brakes, electrical system and chassis with parts and servicing availability at stellantis . The only thing that says GMC is the cab.
I didn’t even know that Chevrolet put that small of a motor in the C60. I thought that the most common engine in those trucks was the 366 Big block 6 liter V8.
PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE more video on the c-60 swap. Fantastic project, loving every minute of it. Keep up the good work!
Swapping the cab seems like the most sensible option... No messing with drive train angles, rerouting and replumbing fifty miles of lines. PLUS the ease of having off the shelf components, God forbid you find yourself broken down.
100% the best route
Agreed 👍

@bloodredhornet2704 what did you do differently than these guys? Where does one find Cummins chassis?
Not gonna lie, little disappointed to see the cab swap instead of a C60 build. I get it it’s easier, that’s why everyone does it. I’d love to see a build where the cab and frame stay together despite the extra work.

you guys make my sunday better, and yes, it gonna be one of the coolest builds! @@BASIN_NATION
This swap is looking good. Sam is staying safe smart kid.
Sam is a smart kid
Videos are improving also. More consistent storytelling and better flow makes more enjoyable videos. Thumbs up to everyone 👍
Thanks for watching!!
Good call on the chassis swap instead of adding all those Ram parts to the C-60 chassis. SO MICH TIME SAVED! And like Aaron said, down the road if something breaks, off the shelf parts are available. Nice job fellas!
Very true!
All your projects and builds are the best and Aaron is the best fabricator out there by far and his team are learning alot from him keep em coming
We are all doing our best to entertain. We hope you enjoy every week
You ALL are killing it! I was noticing Sam wearing a respirator, glasses, gloves on, and had his hair tied back almost the whole time! Did he have earplugs in too? He's a keeper!
Keeper for sure! Sam kills it
Good call for swapping the cab ,its meant to be, great work guys!
I think so too! Thanks for watching
Everyone is doing an awesome job. Keep up the great work Sam.

Every Sunday!! Plan on it
@@BASIN_NATION absolutely the top thing I look forward to on a Sunday!!
That cab looks awesome on that dodge frame😊
It’s meant to be!!
You should swap a Cat diesel into the bed of the Tonka truck. Make it a 4x4 monster truck with 5 ton axles
It needs to be a monster truck
If you are able to do it, you will want to be up in Alaska in the fall. It is beautiful up here that time of year! It is a crapshoot of when it happens though.
I would put that cab on the Ram chassis. Done 👍🏻
Well we are kinda done with that part haha
thats so much work wow

Yes I’m really excited to have a modern frame under this truck. Especially if we are driving it a lot

Make that little truck into a tow truck sick😮
Gonna be a sweet build! Great progress in this episode.
Those original big steel rims with pizza cutters are the coolest. Hope you can fit them in the new axels some how.
They don’t fit and they are pretty dangerous apparently. Wish we could keep the look
@@BASIN_NATION thats a bummer. You'll make it cool anyway
Sam did a good job it's looking nice 👍👏👊🤜🤛

Sam your doing a great job I have seen some car bodies put on 4X4 frames and I think this transformation is going to look like it came from the factory
I think it will look great
All the right calls were made, way more interesting to see the cab swap, plus I would think drivability goes up exponentially.
I think that was the main reason I wanted to go this route.
nice work so far I think that was a great idea using the Dodge frame.
I think so too!
Good job protect those lungs.
Awsome build so far.

I appreciate the video
I appreciate you appreciating the video
Safety's always the most important thing. But you have done an excellent job. She put up the wonderful work and I like what you've done
Wow you've got some right Grumpy people working with you on this truck
Great video!! Definitely a wise decision to cab swap. Already have an established foundation to work with. You guys work awesome together🤙🏻🤙🏻
I’m building a 1960 Apache at the moment. I’m on your way to Alaska, so when you’re coming through, we should meet up!
Lets do this!
Good work!
Thanks!
He did a great job it looked like he was always busy
Sam is also the most diligent forklift driver i've seen on youtube so far.
He’s the best fork lifter ever.
Sam, when you’re in your 60s and 70s, you’ll be very happy that you wore that respirator
Yes power nice engine guys
Thanks for watching
Dont worry Cole Arron is good at what he does he does some impressive stuff with metal
He’s a metal wizard
I called too. Cummins swap for the win.
Thanks for the comment! Stay tuned for more
I'll be honest originally I thought I were gonna swap the c60 cab to the other chassis but then I realized otherwise ......but definitely that really seems like the best bet to save time and have a newer model everything under the truck ......makes maintenance a lot easier when time goes by

The 292 went to a high school program

Hope you can get power steering on that thing. C60’s were hard steering beasts.
Rear engine mount the motor from the C60 in the Tonka and make a drag truck out of it😅😊
That would be awesome
4 bt in that little Tonka truck would be a good swap
That would be cool
You should make that kei truck a half track, and put liquid springs and a modern bench seat on the Chevy
Good idea on the liquid spring
Baby Dozer. Big tires, twin turbo, diesel in the bed, rear steer.
epic series
Porsche engine in the Kei truck in the center.

New poncho 🤘🏽

The 292 is bigger than the baby dump haha
@@BASIN_NATION that’s why it’s perfect! Put it in the bed and make it a mid engine like a monster truck!
Some sort of turbo diesel with stacks and 2 1/2 or axle techs for the mini dump
