Thanks for this, got it done on our 2017 in just under an hour. A few notes: - Mazda part no K1Y3-61-1JZA includes the plastic screen and a new plastic back, it retailed for about $180 US as of this date (9/15/23). All you need to do is transfer the PCB and metal shields. - I followed another comment's suggestion of blocking the vents and opening beneath the vents with some shop towels. It saved the radio bolt from falling which would have complicated things for sure! - The smallest ribbon cable's white line didn't line up fully with the PCB line , making me concerned when attaching that it wasn't in far enough, but it worked. The other 2 ribbon cable's lines matched. - It helps to carefully pull the centermost edge of trim for the gauge cluster out to get the radio back in, I had trouble lining up the guide peg on the left side until I did this. It will need to be pushed back in to get the top trim with vents back in place. - A trim removal tool set from Harbor Freight really helped. Even with flipping PCB tabs up. I highly recommend it. - I am going to add a screen protector as the old screen had the coating wear off over time from oils on fingers, definitely noticeable on common touch points. It's recommended to only clean the screen with a microfiber cloth. Thanks again for the great instructional video and I hope the new screen lasts for a long time! This should have been a recall though.
Dooood….. thank you for the vid! I bought a used 2018 cx-5 4 years ago, and had the dealer install car play. The ghost touch issues started about 2 years ago, and it was really bad when the car had been sitting in the sun. Never any issues in cold or darkness. Bought the same kit off Amazon that you had. No more ghost touch and everything is working flawlessly. A little scary but thanks to your video I had the confidence to tackle this!!!!
I've already done the AA/Carplay upgrade in my cx5, but eagerly awaiting your video because they are quite entertaining. Your spark plug video was great, changed mine out in 10 minutes today!
absolutely spot on process from beginning to end. I had the exact same experience ordering what I thought was the whole screen housing and only getting the raw screen and metal box backing with the computer strip connectors. Your advice was perfect. Many, many thanks.
Thank you doing mine this weekend. Im not paying a dealer 1200 when I can just disconnect the touch feature. We never use it anyway. Appreciate the knowledge.
@@Placeholder25 I got mine at harbor freight many years ago. But, now Amazon has tons of options. I would get something like this today. amzn.to/3VMUgfD
Ok 1st off, thank you guys for making this video. The antireflective coating on the screen was ruined in my mom's 2019 CX5 due to being sprayed with detailing spray. I noticed how horrible the screen looked and she didn't know what to do so I am looking into doing the work for her and save her some money. 2nd you guys are awesome working together like that. Marriage life, doing work together and planning out dinner ideas, did i hear that right? Burritos with black beans and sweet potato stuffing lol.
Great work! One tip for the next time you need to remove adhesive screen bezels is to use heat. For small, movable parts I like to use a small heating pad set to high and just set the area to be heated on it with a bit of weight over the top and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. It really softens the adhesive up so you can get in there with a spudger. If you're working on something bigger, a hair dryer works too but you need to take care to heat things evenly.
@@MaqsVids Yep! Definitely worth the trouble and the wait. I've taken apart a few MacBooks over the years replacing screens and back before they shrunk down the borders around the screens, they had a tendency to use adhesive around the monitor bezels. Terrible combo of visible, flexible, and fragile. Heat made it not so terrible to work on.
Thanks for this video watching this and digitizer alone replacement made me get full touch screen like you did. On 2017+ digitizer is too glued on and takes Lotta work. It's a $30 Part but lots of time removing and cleaning when $30 more you can get entire panel like in video. Ebay $75. Thanks for this saved me ton of time on digitizer removal and cleaning. I'd watched 2016 digitizer replacement and it's much less work (except bezel) so can get away with digitizer. But 2017+ your gonna be spending time! Not to mention touch sensitivity wont be as good not glued like factory. Best option (if you want to keep touch) is full panel like in this video!
I've done this before. Easy to do. Go slow; take your time! I would caution you to put rags or paper towels in the a/c vent holes to prevent dropped screws/bolts from falling into them. Ask me how I know! 😁
I have a 2020...the ghosting actions are getting worse AND the screen is a total mess. I've only used Windex on it but it looks like something is smeared all over it. I'd love to replace mine. I'm wondering if it would be the same on a 2020? Either way, great video and thank you for doing this. I heard that the Mazda dealership charges $1500 for this.
It's my wife's and she doesn't care. She just wanted the phantom touches to stop. I did get the module that allows carplay and Android auto though. I haven't been motivated to install it yet because she is perfectly happy with it the way it is. It was more a curiosity of mine.
nice video! However, I'd say the OEM screen looks better, since it doesn't have the silver rectangle when the screen is off vs the aftermarket one. OEM screen also has thicker glass cover as well. I've been trying to find replacement screens for my CX-5 as well, but it seems like they all have silver interior for the LCD (i.e. no OEM all after market) :(
You don't happen to live near New Orleans, hugh? I need this done, but I don't feel confident I could do w/o breaking something. And I'm not exactly interested in forking over probably, $1,000 (?) to a mechanic.
@@JstJensen YES!! That's what I wanted to do! But we have to upgrade the firmware in our system to accept. My wife didn't care to do it so we didn't include it. I'm excited for it too.
@@MaqsVids I have done it and it is well worth it! I just replaced our screen a few days ago as the OEM screen was getting harder to see with the 'pocking' that happens. (not sure exactly what to call it.) MAZDA will upgrade it for free if you take it to a dealership. The OEM Hub is easy to install.
Seriously, they'll do the upgrade for free? I actually purchased the kit already and have the hub that goes into the center console, but hadn't installed it yet because I was having the ghost touch issues (only I didn't mentally make the connection to it being the touchscreen, I just thought it was an electrical issue). Now I'm wondering maybe if I got a hold of the new touchscreen kit if they'd do both at once for a small charge or (hopefully?) free.

Can you retro fit the 2023 10.25 inch screen to the 2019 screen?

The dash and panels can’t fit the newer larger screens in the 17-20 models.

Very disappointing that they make you do the adhesive nonsense at 8 minutes rather than just including the plastic bezel in the kit. Absurd.
I imagine you can buy the plastic bezel or find kits that include it. I wish I had paid more attention and found one myself.
