He had no army, no technology, no popular vote, no super power....just an angry guy Maybe dont have the country's ENTIRE Department of science be led by a 15 year old girl. Maybe dont have your secret service team use spears, in the Age of the Gun. Maybe dont have the nation's elite live in a high tech palace while the rest of the nation lives in huts...that's some warlord, Idi Amin-type wealth-poverty gap. I'll never get why people keep saying the story was complex, and the villain was so great. It was meh. The motivation of the villain was ridiculous. Seems people are just trying so hard to make this more than what it is.
@Njbear7453 I think you missed the point. I was saying that Black Panther is the first big budget (meaning the vision was fully realized and not constrained by a budget) family film with an African/ African American perspective that is being created by African/Black creators (albeit with the support of a White company). 78' Superman is the first for White or mainstream America. Nothing wrong with that but it feels different.
From a production standpoint, it def deserves praise. Having so many Black people in front of the camera and behind the scenes creating a huge box-office success is great and noteworthy. The movie itself is fine. Black Panther's arc was much more compelling in Civil War, plus his suit looked 1,000 times better. The soundtrack is great. Killing off Klaw was a bad idea because Serkis was really good in that role, and should've kept appearing throughout the MCU as a minor foil. I don't much care for Michael B Jordon. I think he's very handsome like most folks in the MCU, but not a very interesting actor. The first couple of one-on-one fight scenes were awesome, and the last should've been the same, not the CGI mush it turned out to be.
It's really not hard to understand. Imagine you're a white dude who lived in India your whole life, and all you ever saw was Indian super-hero movies with Indian actors; sure they'd have their token white guy hero, maybe even two of them, but they were never the star and frankly weren't as cool as most of the other Indian super heroes. Then one day, suddenly there's an all-white superhero movie? You're going to see that movie. And if its even a half-way decent movie, you're going to love it. Because it's catering DIRECTLY to you, in a market that typically doesn't do that. You'd be stoked. So I get why black people would be super jazzed about BP. But me being white, and not particularly into superhero movies, feel no draw to see it. Because it's not made for me. I am not the target audience. And that's ok. Movies are allowed to have target audiences. Sh*t gets weird when someone tries to insinuate or outright accuse me of some wrongdoing for not being interested in that movie. And when these movies that are made specifically for a black audience include a bunch of dog-whistle racism towards white people, that's not cool. I don't care about any justifications someone tries to make for why that stuff is in the movie. Either racism is bad, or it isn't. You gotta choose. And if you're the kind of person that makes excuses for racism towards white people, who says its ok when the racism is going one way but not the other (or better yet you say it isn't even racism when its going in a certain direction) you are a racist. Period. At least have the integrity to admit it. And the white people who gush about BP being the greatest movie in the world, and go in on that weird self-flagellation/humiliation sh*t like Matt was talking about, are troubled in the head. Normal, mentally stable white people do not claim them. They are not with us.

@@PNWLiving1725 I really need to rewatch. Probably my favorite of Tarantinos. So fun. I still remember seeing it in Utah while on vacation on Christmas day with my dad. Of course, mostly black dudes and couples in the theater.
Shane's just trying to keep the car on the road and the other dude is all like "Hey! He don't even have his license, Lisa!".
Johnson family vacation. Best black movie ever
Undercover Brother is always has been one of my favorite movies.
if a movie is going to "take a stand" against oppression, then maybe dont make it set in a technologically brilliant and advanced country in the middle of Africa that WATCHED the rest of Africa get enslaved when they could have flown out at any time in their stealth jet and stopped all the slavery. Like ALL of it. From ever happening.
And maybe dont have them decide on their nation's leadership with an MMA fight. Maybe your leaders should be decided by a better test than who can throw a punch while standing in a puddle. The entire government was overthrown by a single man who was angry. He had no army, no technology, no popular vote, no super power....just an angry guy
Maybe dont have the country's ENTIRE Department of science be led by a 15 year old girl. Maybe dont have your secret service team use spears, in the Age of the Gun.
Maybe dont have the nation's elite live in a high tech palace while the rest of the nation lives in huts...that's some warlord, Idi Amin-type wealth-poverty gap. If they're gonna be silly and dumb, then lean into it, like Howard the Duck or Guardians of the Galaxy or Austin Powers. If they're gonna be heavy handed about social justice, then tighten up the story, the setting, and the ideas.
Great comment
That is literally the plot of the movie and the villain's motive. At the end they start to intervene instead of being an isolated nation.
I'll never get why people keep saying the story was complex, and the villain was so great. It was meh. The motivation of the villain was ridiculous. Seems people are just trying so hard to make this more than what it is.
Nobody remembers Blank Man or Meteor Man ?
Meteor Man was my jam on sick days.
The golden lords
I remember going to see this movie with a friend of mine that isn't black and him getting upset at me because i thought i was just "Ok".
This is a bad take. Especially the comments saying Blade was the first. Blade wasn't for kids or families. Blade was amazing but there's a difference.
Batman 1989 was the first real superhero movie that started it all imo. Hell Superman 1978 with Christopher reeves came before also.
Not Joe Dirt 💀
I’ll watch any movie with Chadwick Boseman.
@ rip Chadwick
RIP
Not any more
@Stevenirons wow dude, you’re so edgy and cool, talking like that about someone that’s dead, douchebag.
I honestly had no idea who Chadwick was until he died. Legit.
BP was lowkey based. How do they pick a leader? Fist fight. What's their primary weapon? Spear Borderwall is based.
Which is rich coming from the same civilization that is simultaneously way more advanced when it comes to medicine, weapons, and general technology.

Yeah having been around Africa, this Wakanda fantasy is very cute.
A panther is a jaguar, which lives in South America. So, this hero is culturally appropriating South American cultures.
"watch spiderman with kendrick lamar playing and it's the same thing" hahaha that was pretty funny
Shane was on his period with this topic lol
He was right. There was some BS going that wouldn't fly in a "white" movie. Movie also aged like milk 🤣
Yeah but Matt has to like the movie, his married to a black woman.
“Black people built Wakanda, White people built Chicago. Where would you rather live?”
As a white dude I'd want a better movie.Much better...There's already a TRILLION black movies anyway
Were Blade and Spawn played by Indians or white dudes in this scenario
@@booshandorkakow64 In this scenario Blade would be white, all the vampires would be Indian. And Spawn would be white while all the demons and other villains were Indian.

Shane really dissing comic books in this. Dark Knight one of the best movies ever made.
Comic book movies peaked in the 2000’s. Dark knight genuinely a top 10 movie of all time. The first Ironman is beyond badass. Sam ramis Spider-Man films took the time in making him feel human and relatable.
The Incredibles and xmen get honorable mentions too.
Ironman 2 and after everything just follows the same generic MCU formula

Love Shane and Matt. Loved Black Panther. One of the first movies where the hero being of color wasn’t chucking and jiving or stereotypical BS. Grew up in the 90s where the black guy was typically dancing, comic relief, etc.
Chadwick was good as fuck in it. RIP
Chadwick was the best aspect of it. The rest of the film honestly kind of sucked
what the full ep number
It's also kind of sad that anyone would see Wakanda as some kind of aspirational real-life goal when the nation's entire existence depends on the use of completely fictional elements that are, for all intents and purposes, _magic._
Ive never seen a Madea movie. Nothing about a dude dressed up like a funny grandmother ever really appealed to me. People would always tell me, "Dude... you never seen Madea? Its soooo funny!". No, I havent but cool, Im glad YOU liked it.
When i saw black panther i just kept thinking isnt this just iron man 2 but with more black people?? 🤣 🤔

What about Blankman??
Im from south east Asia Brunei n yes blankman! N i nominate my babys daddy!
The movie was mid at best. But because it was sold as an “important” movie it tricked a lot of simpletons and woke people. First off Blade was better and was first. Second it taught Marvel and Disney to lean into identity politics and wokeness. And now current Marvel is paying the price.
It was always shit
Marvel isn't declining because of "wokeness" they still churned out some of the highest grossing films ever after Black Panther. They're declining because after End Game no one cares.
@@XandateOfHeaven And why did no one care? Because the movies and tv shows were woke slop. And that means not just the ham fisted messages. But them hiring people because of DEI and not because of merit.
Also it took time for peak woke to happen. 2016 was the time people started to truly notice it. And now all good will and benefit of the doubt is gone.
@@stdamonsbeard No, because the entirety of the Marvel franchise was building to a single point, a climax. After that climax everything else feels irrelevant.
Your whole "wokeness killed the MCU" narrative also ignores the fact that Black Panther was the highest grossing non-Avengers movie of the entire franchise. Black Panther is the highest performing franchise in the MCU besides Spider-Man.
You blaming DEI is you trying to artificially insert your political agenda. Marvel movies would be just as boring if the entire cast was straight white guys, look at Ant-Man.
