I know it's sucks but Sony doesn't want to put a browser on their systems anymore because that's how the PS3 and PS4 were jailbroken initially
Yea I get that but I'm like that's what made the PS3 and PS4 fun. They just gotta let it happen haha
I've been telling people that for years and especially now if you notice the PS3 launched with the ability to dual boot and run Linux after about 6 months they turned off that ability. I remember running a media server so I could watch what was downloaded on my PC on the PS3.
Fast forward the PS4 comes out with a even more limited web browser then the PS5 comes out and the web browser is actually hidden.
I honestly didn't see them adding dysfunction because I knew they weren't going to add the web browser but I like the way that they did it in a lot of people don't understand why.

@@deathkiller07seven30 bro if you literally pay attention it's clear as day The PS3 what came out as a full home entertainment system I don't even know if you remember commercials they wanted people to use it as an everyday device media player it was able to dual boot and run Linux as a big tech nerd I can tell you for every new addition of the PlayStation they've limited what that system could do with the browser.
The PS3 was hacked more than any other PlayStation unit they had. 6 months after release roughly they came out with the update that took away some of those things that they launched the PS3 with the ability to do.
One of the ways that people Jail broke the system was through the web browser.
The PS3 could do a lot of things. Not sure if you remember but the original chat on the PS3 you could have over 15 people in the chat. I remember myself cuz I used to play Madden online franchise mode with 32 other people and most of them in different states and we used to go on there and be trying to trade players till like 3:00 in the morning.

I've only recently bought a PS Portal and love it. Got one for the wife too and we have yet to test it out and about. So I didn't know about that issue, though it makes sense. At home, so far, no issues connecting, works perfect and even after the update. I really love the battery percentage showing now. Like you mention though a lot of those things should had been day one features, like version 1.0.0, not version 3.
I always understood that the Portal was more like what the Wii U Gamepad was but with a little more versatility since you can take it to a friends/family’s house and play and now it’s a little more versatile however I still ended up returning mine
Adding a browser adds additional potential issues, updates to keep up with browser constant updates, etc. As for 5GHz - They have to do that to avoid legal issues in other countries and avoid violation of any regulations, etc. I am happy that they sent this update for the consumers. Thanks CKID for keeping us up to date.

I agree 100%. But from the looks of it...with Wifi 7 the new wifi band is 6GHz so doesn't look like it's ever gonna happen.

The governing standards agency people for WiFi ranges and strengths etc. (FDA?) has approved to increase the strength/range of the 5ghz or 6ghz band so things will be in a better place in the future
They also update the elite headset honestly it's nice the connection time us instant now

This update improved things on my end but for the price of the portal it needs to be a flawless experience. For context, I’ve been mainly trying to use it outside of home on the go and it’s a hassle to get it connected and the experience sucks when I do manage to play a game. At home it’s much better, but still not the 1:1 experience I want out of it. The backbone doesn’t have the DualSense functionality and after using the portal I can’t go backwards. Sony needs to get that Vita 2 out asap. Thanks for the breakdown of the update CKid. Let us know if you try out the pulse elites with the new update.
That's so strange I took mines on vacation this past December to Florida for contacts I live in Alaska so roughly 3,000 miles away and it was damn near flawless but I don't play any fast-paced competitive online like call of Duty Street fighter or any games of that sort where you need your inputs to damn near be perfect.
I don't have any stuttering which surprises a lot of people especially one of my co-workers who literally has the same internet provider with a gaming router and I have the default router that they provided and I had no stuttering and he sold his because of stuttering.
Dude couldn't believe when I brought mines to work how smooth it ran.

I really want to get one -- mainly to play during lunches at work. Regarding the Vita 2, I agree and would love to see one sooner than later (it could honestly be years before we see one). With all the handhelds popping up so quickly from companies like Anbernic, I was really hoping Sony would get on the ball! From what I've read and watched on YT, the biggest issue is finding a chipset that would handle PS emulation.
@@mikeh.9954 I know they have a company a third-party company working for PlayStation to improve the PlayStation 3 emulation for the PS5.
Literally that's all this company does they focused on emulation so I guess Sony hired them as far as the PS Vita 2 the rumor mill has it that they've started working on a new Vita so you might get your wish sooner than later but it probably won't be out for another year or two.
It’s only $200… that is not a bad price especially when you can pay in 4 installments through the PlayStation website. For what this thing can do, $200 is a bargain.
@@PINE_333 from somebody who doesn't like the backbone cuz it's too small of a screen for me to play PlayStation 5 games on I literally used to bring my 12-in Samsung tablet and a controller with me so I could remote play this is way easier and worth the price..

I love the portal don’t get me wrong, it’s the lag at times can make a gaming experience terrible. So is the portal going off the public WiFi or the smart phones hotspot, kinda confused on that?
How does Eldin Ring play on this with the timing? Any lag on good connection?
Personally I use a travel router. Even though it’s a sucks to have another thing to carry, it does help keep safe and no need to try connecting all devices to a new signal. Just connect the router and done

I feel like this is coming but with a different handheld they have planned.
The update seems to have caused the stream to freeze quite often now when used to run fine. Have to disconnect and repair each time it happens

I updated the software, and the only thing I can do is hop on Public WiFi. My Portal only works on my home WiFi. I’ve set all proper settings on my PS5. No clue what’s wrong.

and also, if they can jailbreak the Playstation portal, they might be able to make a back door into the PlayStation 5 to remote play and jailbreak the PlayStation five itself if they're clever enough to do it

Oh then you chillin with the connection...but it's nice now to feel more comfortable taking it on vacations and such. What games you playing on it.
@@CKidM to be honest, I play everything on it. I love it. I’ll play, 2k, COD, Elden Ring, Brotato, SF6, Tekken 8……. Everything. I also have the ASUS ROG ALLY as well.

Honestly watching this just convinced me to just go and get the Backbone and I can use my phone anywhere playing any game rather it’s PlayStation, Xbox, or Apple Arcade or play store games .its a cheaper option and more convenient and versatile for gamers on the go. 😅but you’ve gain a subscriber here tho good stuff!

Hey my good man still.having problems with WiFi internet connection I have high speed internet connection and sometimes it just cuts off and comes back on after a second.and it’s lagging a bit.please help me out with a solution.what should I do because it keeps saying lost connection I even bought a new booster internet connection box that covers the whole house.but no improvement.even with this new update has not made any difference.

Hi I have a playstation portal I have connected to a 5g service optus on Australia and I have used my 5g mobile phone hotspot and it connected as I don't like using public wifi
sony purposedly did not include a browser because back then PS4 had a browser and people found exploits and was able to hack the system. This applies to PS Portal becaus ebasicaly you are just streaming PS5 to a PS Portal.

u do have a browser... Settings , Networks , choose the last option and you have your browser 👁... Want feedback? Connect your ps5 controller onto ps5 main system , go to accessories and controller ,click on haptic feedback and then do the same on your portal AND 💥
The reason that won't put a web browser on in case you can jailbreak the Playstation portal and get access to things like Xbox or any other services that aren't Sony

Why are people complaining about the lack of browser, I'm 100% sure that if you could afford to buy a stand alone remote play device then you obviously have a phone which has a browser... Honestly seems stupid.

I suggest you take the portal to public locations and do a test I just watched another video about the wifi situation and you may come back more disappointed about the wifi update than you think
They gotta fix the stuttering issue!
I played yesterday (pre-update) and today (post-update), over mobile hotspot and to me it seems like the stuttering has been fixed. It still plays like garbage with dropped frames, rubber banding, fluctuating resolutions and decreased frame rates. It’s just not meant as an on the go portable gaming device. Stay inside on that super fast home WiFi and you’re golden. I was playing Astro’s playroom and my hdmi was disconnected at home.

It has to be in rest mode. You’re playing it from the console, so yes it turns on. So unplug the HD Cord whenever you want to play it remotely

Man I really really hate my PlayStation Portal. For someone who travels on a weekly basis I can’t connect to the hotel wifi around the world on this monstrosity of a device.

I actually don’t mind needing the phone to authenticate. I think 99% of the intended users have a smart phone with them😅. Let’s be real, Sony made this device for adults and to an extent, teens. Let kids play on the console or get them a smart phone.
Fix the portal latency can't plat cod,2k24,madden, or any game for that matter efficiency fix this and then and only then it would be complete 🎉

I should get pay for saying this. You should have the option to resizing the touch pads to your liking and able to move it to any corners. Cause those two touch pads are to small and a little bit inside and hard to reach especially when I'm playing helldivers 2.

Useless update for those who’s having issues using their phones as hotspot connecting to portal. I’m on EE in the UK great internet speeds , it turns on the PlayStation alright from sleep mode but it’s going on a loop connecting to PS5, so they only addressed public WiFi issues not mobile hotspot.
Im ok with it. My phone is always on me anyways.. least they fixed it. 🤷

Sold my portal, and this was one of the reasons. Couldn't connect outside, and I didn't nearly use it as much as I thought I would.

Just get a Backbone controller. You can play on the go anytime.

Cmon bruh, me personally im glad there's no browser on the Portal .. Certain ppl only care about this issue bc they have the MALICIOUS intent to hack it and find a exploit into the PS network and steal ppl personal information and money. This is exactly why Xbox probably wont come out with their own handheld bc of this very issue. dont get me wrong, hacking can be fun if use responsibly, but in today society using a browser on a handheld has too many vulnerabilites. Just ask Nintendo and the problems ppl hacking the Switch has cause them. It's all fun and games til it's YOUR IMFORMATION that's been stolen and now you than lost faith in the company.
