    PRODUCT THAT I USE AND LOVE THAT CAN SPEED UP PROPAGATION (affiliate links):
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Heat mat (place underneath the propagation vessel to warm it up, can cut propagation time in half)
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - an air pump provides a constant inflow of oxygen which speeds up propagation. Oxygen is crucial for healthy root development
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - humidity dome for soil propagation
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - rooting hormone, for plants that are not easy to propagate
    FERTILIZER
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Dyna Gro fertilizer, excellent for tropical plants, contains all 16 minerals houseplants need
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Espoma succulent and cacti fertilizer
    LIGHT METERS
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Dr. Meter light meter, the only way to know that you're providing your plants with sufficient light
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Most light meters apps are incorrect, this one has been pre-calibrated for a variety of cell phones
    IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH NATURAL LIGHT, YOU CAN USE GROW LIGHTS TO SPEED UP PROPAGATION:
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - 60W Sansi grow light (for large plants)
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - 15W Sansi grow light (for smaller plants)
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - 15w Sansi grow light
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... cable for Sansi grow lights
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - shelf grow light
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Soltech Solution's 20W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights
    ➡️ www.mrhouseplant.com/recommen... - Soltech Solution's 40W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights

    To save on the electricity bill I propagate mine in what I call it a „hanging nursery“. I put them in a ziplock bag with some moss hanging next to my south/east facing window (Be careful - I live in NL so there is not much sun/heat so it does not steam). The roots will have a bunch of Oxygen, the right heat and I do not really have to care about watering it. It‘s been three weeks and the nodes are activated. I make sure the node sees light and the roots are in the moss with the adult leaves sticking out. It is a bit of a hassle finding a place to hang them up but I just use my growth light stand that I use over the Winter time. Additionally it provides the plant with the humidity level needed and due to the ziplock bag not being closed all the way due to the adult leaves it receives airflow.

    • @MrHouseplant
      @MrHouseplant  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Roots absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Having an air pump keeps the oxygen levels in the water high and which is also why bacteria won't develop soon and you don't need to change the water as frequently as without an air pump. I did some videos where I demonstrated the difference a heat mat makes in speeding up propagation. Not sure if I did one for air pumps. But it's a good idea :)

    Used to think you couldn't propagate with a single leaf, but I currently have 3 single leaves that rooted. Didn't know it was possible. No stem, no roots, no nodes. Just a leaf I pulled off and stuck into water. No idea if it will put out new growth, but they rooted.

      Hi Jaxon, yes, air comes into the water when you add more water or when you replace it. That's why it's a good idea to regularly replace water. However, with an air pump you have a constant inflow of oxygen, so you don't have to add or replace water as often :)

    • @MrHouseplant
      @MrHouseplant  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi, you shouldn't dig up your monstera, but it should have visible leaf nodes above the surface. Maybe you're not sure how to locate a growth node. To find nodes on your plant, find the newest leaves that have appeared. Place your fingers on the stem right next to the new leaf, and then trace the stem backward to where it connects with another stem. That connection point is the node. 😊

      @acemikado7810 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrHouseplant wow! That’s a detailed log of care. Definitely going to check that out.
      In regards to my leaf, the back story was that my baby had fungal rust 😭
      So I cut all the leaves off. No nodes, just stem. I took anything with rust and threw it out and the others I put in a vase and waited for them to die. Most of them did. But 2 leaves did something I never expected and about 6 months after cutting them, the spot where I cry then started growing veeeerrry tiny bumps. I thought it was the end and they were going to die but they grew roots. It was totally bizarre and I had no idea how it happened. They were nowhere near the node because I specifically cut them away from the node so I could use the node for other stuff. This was just a cull to get rid of the rust.
      Totally unexpected. It’s been about 18 months now and the roots are still small and no other growth from the leaf, just looks like I cut it off the plant.
      I never would have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself. I don’t understand how it’s happened, but there it is. Just a leaf with roots. Lol. I call it my immaculate propagation. 😂

    • @acemikado7810
      @acemikado7810 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrHouseplant so I did some google-ing and it looks like what I have is a “petiole” propagation. It was completely an accident. And according to ‘plantophiles’ it will never be a full plant. Just a leaf and only a leaf forever. Lol. But I’m fine with that.

    • @MrHouseplant
      @MrHouseplant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@acemikado7810 Thank you for clarifying. Yes, with certain plants, leaves with petioles can grow roots. I know that gets people excited, but unfortunately, roots don't mean that a leaf will ever grow :) There are many plants that do this - pilea peperomioides is one of them. Before I knew better, I had 10 leaves with petioles in water for a full year! :) And the roots were really long. But for pileas, you need to do a leaf-bud propagation (cut off a tiny piece of the stem/bark with the petiole. That piece of stem will have a dormant bud which can then grow a new leaf :) Fiddle Leaf Figs are another plant where a leaf with a petiole can grow roots, but not a new plant :) But it's still fun experimenting and trying things out :) If by any change you do ever get a leaf, please send me a photo, I would love to post about it

      Hi Nikhil, that's an excellent question! Larger leaves will have a better predisposition of growing large leaves, however whether that actually happens depends on the amount of light and water the plant is getting. If it's in low light, it's likely to produce a smaller leaf :)

    Tips for propagating in soil?

    • @MrHouseplant
      @MrHouseplant  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, to have more chances of succesful soil propagation:
      1) Increase the warmth of the propagation medium by using a heat mat. Increasing the temperature by a few degrees significantly speeds up propagation. 2) Increasing the amount of light, more light increases photosynthesis and root formation. Either move the cutting to a brighter window or use a grow light. Don’t keep cuttings a few feet away from a window, but right in front of it. And don’t place cuttings behind walls next to a window - but in front of the window 3) Mix the soil with perlite to increase macro pores and the amount of oxygen in it.
      Hope this helps 😊

    • @MrHouseplant

      Hi Malene, the length of time it takes for the cutting to root will depend on many factors and will be different for everyone. For one person a cutting might root in a week. For someone else it might take 2-3 months.
      It depends on the amount of light, amount of oxygen in water, water temperature and other factors.
      As a general rule of thumb, leave the cutting in water until it grow 2-3 inches of roots. Then you can pot it in soil :)
