  • In this video I'm showing you how to repot a healthy African Violet and two neglected ones that have developped so called "long necks". I also share a potting mix recipe for traditional pots and self watering systems.

Wow, very interesting!😃 I don't know much about African Violets...just as youths my sibs and I were warned never to water mama's plant that lived happily year round on the kitchen windowsill.😃
It was beautiful; however, her warnings of how sensitive the plants are kept me from desiring to grow one.
    Great info. Thank you!💕
Your plant babies all around ya are beautiful!😃

Haha, I can totally relate to your mom when it comes to caring for African violets! It's not easy to please them 😉. But they reward you with gorgeous flowers if you manage to make them happy 🌸

It would be so hard for me to remove all the blooms. Beautiful bouquet. Looking forward to more updates on them.

I use the cellophane bags for candy or cookie gifts, as mini hothouses when I fix the long neck violets. They are inexpensive and they don’t deflate like zip lock bags do.

I am trying to rescue a friend's African Violet. She has been away for 8 months taking care of a sick family member, & her pet sitters were killing it.
It has a neck about 3 inches long !! The problem I have with repotting it is this: The plant was allowed to sit in the window facing the same direction for a long time, & has grown in 1 direction to an extreme. Because of that, the neck under the base of the leaves is pretty much completely horizontal !! There is no way for me to cut it & stick it straight into the soil. The neck is mostly (2 inches or so) horizontal, before it becomes vertical for the last inch closest to the soil.
How do I deal with this to repot ?
Also, you said the pot should be no more than 1/3 the size of the plant. Do you mean the size of the plant foilage or root ball ? And are you referring to the measurement at the top of the pot ?
Thank you in advance for your help. Your 1 African Violet you repotted in this video was so beautiful !! So many flowers 🙂

Haha yes a bit drastic you're absolutely right! I should practise what I preach and repot them more often from now on 😉💚
