African violets were my first love with houseplants. Beheading is kind of hit or miss. But sometimes you just have no choice. I look forward to the update from your experiment with leca.
Oh my Gosh. AVs were my first love as well when I was just a young child! I always need to have AVs with me.They are just amazing. Do you have any special care tips?
@@TheLecaQueen I never grew in leca. So I cannot comment on that at all. My care tips were very simple because that was a simpler time in my plant care life! In the U.S., they seem to like an East-facing window. I watered once a week on the same day each week. I would dribble a bit of water on top and then fill their saucer from the bottom. Once or twice a year, I would top dress with worm castings. Other than that, nothing special.
1- What did you do with the bottom portion? Wouldn´t it sprout and get a new plant? 2- Leca is expanded clay. I see you don´t mix it with soil. Where does it get the nutrients from?
Thank you for this. I just inherited an old African Violet from a neighbor who’s grandmothers passed. She knew I have a house full of plants and was hoping I could save it. I’ve never cared for these before so I’m totally lost but I’m going to give this a try. Love your page and energy. Keep the videos coming🙏❤️🪴
I am curious about the Leca for potting. Are all your violets in it? Where can I find those pots? The video is well done and very informative. Thank you.
Great stuff! On another semi-related note, I once watered my African violet with some water I had left out in a cup overnight. Keep in mind I had had friends over and we got pretty wasted… yeah. Then I smelled the cup afterwards… it was clear, white tequila blanco!! Not even mixed w anything! I poured it all into the violet’s pot. And guess what? Nothing happened to the plant! Absolutely nothing. I’m not suggesting we start feeding or watering our plants with tequila, but evidently one mistake didn’t matter… I was sh*tting myself that day, over a $3 plant. Lol.
I look forward to seeing your content. I wanted to know if African Violets are finicky plants and could a semi- established plant parent be successful growing this plant
@@TheLecaQueen thanks for replying. I was intrigued by the entire video. I have looked at African Violets before but was deterred from purchasing. I've heard so many things about the crazy care they require. Looking at your video made me less uncomfortable
Hi Nora, I’ve had to do this to a couple of my AV’s last year in soil. I did nothing else: no humidity, no heating pad, no nothing. It works well after the AV goes into a stage of shock for little bit. I let all my AV’s dry out between waterings. I also lightly mist mine. Today the two I had to chop up look as though nothing has ever happened to them. 😊😅
I have watched several of your videos and can’t seem to find information on the ratios for how much ccs for a specific amount of lecca and how long you soak your lecca in your CCS solution. After soaking your lecca, do you drain it and throw that solution out? Do you put fresh solution in your cache pot? Help!!
My kids bought me one for mothers day this year and it's gone to very full plant heaven 🙅♀. Re the zip lock bags, just to let you know Ikea have some large ones
Great video Nora...thanks for the heads up about the goose necks! I'm excited to see your results👏🏼👏🏼I'm sure the rooted one will be back to its glorious self in no time and I'm hoping the decapitated one comes back with a vengeance 💪
Looking fwd to the updates; thanks for sharing Nora!
Always a pleasure to see you. I also can not wait for those updates> Fingers crossed it all goes well.
SO helpful! Thank you!! 🌸

@@kyrad6543 so simple right! I truly believe African Violets have been done an injustice! They are easy going plants.
@@TheLecaQueen Oh yes and they come in all colors, variegated leaves, and miniatures too. Plus they are fun to propagate!

You are too kind! Thank you. All the best with your violet.

Yes all my violets are in leca. You can use orchid pots but I make holes in normal nursery pots. Thank you for watching.
I always propagate my variegated leaves for years. I do chop my also but sometimes it does not do well.
I am new to this. What kind of soil is that first plant in?
Both are in leca clay balls
@@TheLecaQueen Thank you!

Now that is a funny story🤣🤣🤣
Do you ever get fungas gnats using the leca?
No, not at all.

@@kbm4409 I always wonder where these AV horrow stories came from. They are such easy plants.
Absolutely! They are very easy to care for. I let them dry out before watering thoroughly. I even lightly mist mine. The blooms are so beautiful too.

Thank you for commenting. So glad to hear that your plants went well. AVs are very resilient and do not need the kid gloves we all think they do!

I'm puzzled, what is Leca? Never heard of it.
Hello, this video explains what leca is: th-cam.com/video/NWvXanmgyhs/w-d-xo.html
@TheLecaQueen Thank you very much for the informative video, now I know what leca is😊

Thanks Connie! Glad you like it. You know I love violets, I will be devasted if they do not revive!
How do you keep them from getting a long neck?
I don't think you can stop it. The old leaves will eventually drop off and then the stalk remains bare.
