Great video on this carburetor. I was checking Varietech website and couldn't find the carburetor rebuild kit for the Stihl FS36 Trimmer on the site. Do you still sell them or did I just miss it somehow? 👍

Hi David, You're welcome. Thanks for watching our videos. I have come across this tricks when I lost few needles, springs and small parts on the grass. 6 years ago I was thinking how would I able to quickly and securely clean all small parts. Surely, there is should be a way! One day when I went to a dollar shop I saw this strainer not knowing it's use for tea. Great! This is excellent placing all the small parts inside and dipping this into into a solution and shake. But wait, it would be a waste of solution and how does it clean inside. That when I came up with placing a stainless steel sponge inside. And it works great for me and I'm happy to share the trick. We will make more videos this summer. Stay subscribed. Cheers! VARIETECH

Which check valve? Is it the one on the fuel hose external primer pump or internal to the carburetor metering assy? Thanks for watching. Please like, share and subscribe to the channel. Get notified for upcoming videos.
The two adjacent screws are Hi and Lo. The 3rd screw next to the choke lever is the iddle screw. This screw has a pointed tip or cone shape tip. Prior to adjusting the Hi and Low, you set the iddle screw so the lever will rest on the mid tip of the cone.
@@Varietech-AU Thanks but there is another screw, on the other side (fuel inlet side) and I'm just wondering what it's for and whether I should screw it back in
@mjyumping Sorry, I know what you are talking about, the screw next to the black lever next to fuel intake. Actually, I haven't tried to undo this screw. It's normally fixed with glue or nail polished. Good point, I should undo this screw and see what's inside. I believe inside has a plunger with small piston and spring used as a check valve.
very nice and detailed!!! I am debating whether I want to spend the time...do you know where I can just order a new carb.? its a vintage 1985 model!!! from Deutschland!
Unfortunately a genuine or aftermarket replacement carburetor is nowhere to buy. You could possibly buy a old stock genuine carby from US for over $80USD. Best is to rebuild the carby. Thanks for watching.
Loved the detail of your video . Could you tell me though , if the diaphragm on the high screw was letting fuel through like in your video , would the whipper snipper just be hard to start but still go .
That's a tiny one way valve hole. I can tell you that mine was "slightly" letting fuel back through but I went ahead with the carb rebuild and I haven't had any problems. It starts and runs fine. You may find that you have problems getting the adjustments right, which could make it harder to start. After the rebuild I "lightly" screwed the H/L screws in all the way until they seated and then backed them out 1-1/4 turnes. It took about 20 pulls to get the first start and then with screw driver ready, I made the final finer adjustments. It's been starting easier and running fine. Edit add on: every time I ordered and kit that fit multiple Stihl trimmers it came with the wrong needle jet, the kit I got from Varietech for the FS36 Trimmer was exactly right. Well worth it.
@@Montana_horseman Thanks for that Montana .I've got the old girl going alright ,but it seems like it's starving of fuel after it warms up so I'll give the carby another clean and then start her up and do a bit of fine tuning .
@@wayneheta7033 You are very welcome and good to hear she's running. I found I had to go from high to low as I tuned the carb. Got it running pretty good with the high then moved over and adjusted the low and it ran better. Back to high for a little more adjustment then back to the low until it was running good enough to be happy with, do the job and idle well. Good trimming to you! 👍
Great video. I still have a problem that my primer bulb never showing fuel entering it and the return line to gas tank never provides any fuel coming out of it. Continually pressing the primer bulb eventually leaks fuel somewhere in the front of the trimmer housing and nowhere by the carburetor or the fuel lines. Very confusing. The primer bulb line s delivering plenty of fuel to the inlet but never to the return line and the motor never starts. Does this indicate an internal blockage somewhere still within the carburetor ?
@@Varietech-AU Thank you and I will verify all the above. Mystery is while continually pressing the primer bulb that never fills with fuel, starts a leak somewhere far in front of the wacker housing (motor area), nowhere near the carb. I even tried this with carb detached from intake gasket area to make sure nothing from the carb was leaking into intake chamber and it still leaks somewhere you cannot see, likely from the tank somewhere you cannot see. It drips from the motor housing bottom. Also, does needle valve top hook onto rocker or does rocker just sit on top of needle valve.
@@Varietech-AU Thank you. I will have to further disassemble to reveal entire fuel tank, since I cannot assume there is any reason or other area of fuel tank to have any type of intended opening or connectors, leading to what we both feel could be a crack. Not sure why any grommets would even be located in that tank area, since all hose connections are all in the carb area and not leaking as previously stated.
@@Varietech-AU I have thoroughly cleaned all valve orifices per your video and also ensured fuel pump diaphragm is properly in place. Still nothing ever comes through the return to fuel tank connection even under constant bulb pressing pressure. Is there something else and where in the carb that your excellent removals and cleanings does not address where a possible blockage remains, preventing fuel from returning to tank. Also removed that hose to ensure that return connector was what is blocked and not the hose and when disassembled, that return connector orifice is totally cleaned out when sprayed so it is clear.
