Nothing short of a professional how-to video! I am appreciative of the magnified video, speed of delivery, cautionary considerations, and alternative approaches!!!! Donyboy, you are excellent teacher!!! Sincerely grateful for your video!!!!
I spent 16 bucks on a China carburetor and replaced my car using this video, still going strong 3 months later after heavy use! Thanks for the clear video and great angles!!!!!
I am almost 60 years old and never truly understood these little carbs until now. Thank you for taking the mystery out of these little patience testers !!!!!
Wanted to say thanks for all of your vid's. I got an old Toro mower a few years ago for free. It ran good, but only on full throttle. It worked, so I didn't worry about it. Last week it started running rough, like it had some dirt in the carb. Thx to your videos, I pulled the Walbro Carb off, checked it out, cleaned it, fixed the low idle return, adj. the mixture, set the idle and she runs like new! Because of you, I'm almost done with my old 3 HP, side exhaust Tecumseh project. Thx Donyboy!!!
First of all, thank you, thank you for all of the videos you make. I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into making the videos so clear and understandable. Using your tips I fixed my neighbor's dead lawn mower and power washer. Rob in Florida
I used this video twice this year to get my trimmer running. The first time I ordered the wrong carb rebuild kit. Seems there are several similar carbs on these machines with slightly different shaped gadgets. Thanks again, big help. Saved me $100
I replaced the fuel line and fuel filter in my FS55 trimmer today using this video as a guide. Also cleaned the carburetor and fuel tank as you show here as well. Thank you for posting, I've passed on your channel to several friends.
Awesome video Donyboy. I"ve rebuilt carbs on 4 cycle engines so I had a pretty good idea on how my Stihl grass trimmer would work. I actually took it off and cleaned it just as you described. However, I forgot to check that fuel filter--which is very important. And. .I didn't clean that valve orifice inside. Normally I use a thin sewing needle to physically clean these out. I've found that physical cleaning is surefire versus carb cleaner which doesn't always break up ethanol gasoline. . another bad idea to use. Live and learn. You've done a fabulous job with your presentation as well as the tone of voice. This couldn't have been any better with a hired actor. Well done ! You're a very good teacher. Love my Stihl.
Best carburetor rebuild video out there, and I've probably seen them all! Seen them all because they are all lacking minor/major details that end up being crucial for a successful rebuild.
Donyboy73, when it comes to my rebuilding my equipment, I am almost fearless. My trimmer ran like a sack of hammers so with this video I installed the #100 kit and it started right up. Last week I replaced a split fuel line on my chainsaw. The High / Low screws were a mystery, but I think I have them figured out. Many thanks for showing me how to do it.
Nicely done. Short and to the point with all the important details, and, some real-world reasons why you did it that way and what happens if you don't.
Best DIY video I've seen - by far. Thank you for taking such care to make it so professional. I watched it last week, then checked my FS45 which bogged down when opening the throttle. Didn't rebuild carb. just blew through fuel lines and filter. Put zip ties on fuel lines as the tubing seemed a bit loose. Result: Like new again, no hesitation on running straight up to full power. This week, horror! It was back to square one. Terrible bog down, no power. Life is so cruel!
Awesome video! The Stihl FS 45 is nearly identical. Local dealer wanted $40 for rebuild kit, so I just got diaphram and gasket for $10. Put it in and ran like crap under load. Checked the owners manual, reset H, L, and LA screws to factory settings, and now it runs like new!
Thank you for a superb description of how to overhaul this carburetor. I was able to do it very easily after viewing your TH-cam just once. Saved me some money and time.
A great video. Thanks. I have a HS45 hedgetrimmer with same carb that wouldn't rev high although idled OK. Found a few tiny bits of dirt under metering diaphragm. Cleaned this and the jets as you described - great tip about wire from a brush for this. Works perfect now.
Thanks for a great video . I am still recovering still in a stupid neck brace I get to go the the Nuro surgeon 1 hour away to find out if I need a operation on my neck . He did my low back and kept me out of a wheelchair for 5 years . Then I got arthritis real bad in my low back put me back in the chair . I can walk very short time . He told me it would happen when he operated on me
Good quality video footage, easy to see. Precise instructions. Thanks. The problem I had was the air filter bracket was moulded in such a way it prevents a standard 8mm socket from getting to the nuts...a cunning plan.
this is the most ((DETAILED)) STIHL carburetor rebuild on TH-cam,,you covered every aspect of rebuilding this carb step by step,,I learned a lot thx man
I can't say enough about this video. Easy to follow with no distractions music or kids etc. I bought a Stihl weedeater 1 1/2 years ago and already it won't start. 2 blisters later I am pissed off that a weedeater I thought I would never have any problems with for at lest 5 years or so has already failed me ugh. I'm not sure where to start and I doubt it needs a kit already but who knows for sure. It acts like it is not getting any gas and the primer bulb does feel different when pushing so I will start with the basics inspections to see if anything obvious is wrong then maybe change the plug out, filter and things like that. Anyway thanks for your video and I will be following you from now on.
Thanks for your response Donyboy73. After all my rambling about the piece of crap stihl trimmer I had watched a video on timmer line replacement and didn't realize that you could feed it in from the outside. I tried it out and it worked. I don't know how many choice words I used trying to figure out how to get the line rewound without it all coming apart. My point is on doing so I had pulled the plug wire to check for spark and barely pulled the cord and it started. What the heck I thought so shut it off put the plug wire on good and the protector cover and it ran like a new one. I just figure I had rocked it back and forth enough to unlodge something in the fuel lines so were good now. I will watch your video anyway for more info so thank you very much once again.
One of the best instructional videos on TH-cam, to the point, great camera work, no stupid competing background music. Was wondering if using a spray carb cleaner is of any value. They are pretty weak compared to the carb cleaners 20 years ago so it is necessary to "rod" the passages. I did this on my motorcycle and will now try it on my Stihl trimmer and MS261 chainsaw. Keep up the excellent work.
I found the whole carb brand new with gaskets for about $17 on ebay and amazon. thank you for the video, very informative! it's good to learn how the little parts all work.
You do an excellent job explaining the steps and the positioning of the parts. The camera angle and tight shots are steady & focused letting us see what you're doing without any problem.. Thanks so much for these helpful videos
This my Saturday project. I think I’m gonna need the little reddish duckbill valve under the primer, too. This trimmer is 3 years, and it’s never been right. Haven’t used it in at least 18 months. It’s just a backup for my Echo. Thanks.
Thank You so much! I noticed after I rebuilt my carburetor i could still blow through the fuel line...So I checked the float height like you said because it was incorrect out of the package and it seals nicely now!
Hi there donyboy73, Another good and easy and clear video to use as a standard to do everything needed on this Carburettor. ….. And this carburettor with that tiny round filter, which to a layman looks like part of the solid bit of the carburettor but you show it isn't. This is a pretty rare case of almost invisible piece that have to be replaced and or at least checked. Thanks you. Take care mrbluenun
Still the best carb video. I just found it I had already replaced everything and couldn't get the throttle cable on the carb good and it was running fast at idle to the point that the head was turning only way I could slow it down was to turn the choke on a little. I am going to see if i can roll the throttle around tomorrow and see if i can get it to seat down in it then it would lower the throttle.
donyboy73 you made my day!!! i was looking this tutorial from a long Time!!! Superb video, excellent quality and step by step instructions...Thanks a lot!!!
This is helpful, just purchased a FS46 gonna do a clean/rebuild before I even try to get it running. I noticed the fuel lines are much different than most I have worked on they appear in great condition. Thanks for the how to video!
Hey buddy my grief started when I tried to get the filter out with a coat hanger thinking it was like the older one. I then went to research and found you. You information was very precise and concise. I have now purchased a kit from ebay and it the changing of the fuel line and filter dont work I will change the carby seals to give it a proper run. Thanks heaps
Dony' would it be possible in future vids like this one to give the symptoms that led to the repair, or even better a demonstration of the machines problems that led to the diagnosis & successful repair. your the best on YT
Your video saved my bacon. Trimmer would only run on choke, and not very long. With your help I was able to disassemble and find the problem . . . gas had congealed inside and needle valve was totally clogged. Cleaned that up and it runs just fine! Any suggestions re optimum type of gas? I'm using a lower octane now.
muy buenas noches, no se hablar ingles, pero eres muy especifico, con mostrar imágenes mas que suficiente para entender, muchas gracias y un suscriptor mas!!!!!!
recommend not to use wire on jet orifice • his method is field-expedient and commonly use but only broach for the purpose is correct; we find bristle from brush or something that will not resize even slightly and do what we can
excellent video I love your videos as they are very clear, easy to understand, and you dont rush through steps... nice and easy for a non-mechanical guy like me. Thanks :)
Hey, first off, thanks for the instructional video. I followed the steps but my whacker is only able to run for about 15 seconds before shutting down. I can’t figure out what’s happening. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I just watched your video for rebuilding a carb on a FS38 still trimmer. I have this trimmer for 2 years now works great expect when I rotate the trimmer to the right. When I does this it bogs down and stops. I would appreciate any info on this thank you
Awesome video, man I wished you were in my town. Most shops around here will overcharge for simple repairs. I can not get my FC75 started, I changed the spark plug, air filers and poured fresh True Fuel in it. I will not start, I removed the spark plug wire and I see it's getting a spark but will not crank. Also, I cleaned the spark arrestor screen. What else should I try?
Good stuff. NO Tack yet Don ? I often wonder why the use of thread locker is not required on 2 cy carbs with all the vibration, ever had some of those screws loosen up ?
I mean if vacuum pulls it out as engine runs why wouldn't the pressure of the priming bulb push it out into the venturi. The reason why I ask is to figure out what causes a two cycle carb to empty the tank through the intake while just setting not running. Is this a stuck needle same as a 4 stroke? Im really confused. Because if its gravity fed pressure flowing through the circuits into the venturi. What keeps the pressure from the bulb from doing the same thing. Thanks for any response. Doc
thanks! video was really well done, got mine going again. It would start but wouldn't rev up without dying/bogging down and works as good as new after the rebuild
I'm actually at this point. I bought a rebuild kit from the Stihl dealership that i bought my FS38 from. The kit consisted of a fuel filter, an air filter, the single "wagon wheel" diaphragm, and the new primer button. It was exactly $495 pesos, or $25 USD. It is bare bones and basic, but I believe that by cleaning the carburetor and spark arrestor thoroughly, I can get it going tomorrow morning. I have another string trimmer carb to rebuild when I'm done with this one, and then my father-in-law's chain saw carb. This will all be practice to jump into my Kawasaki Ninja carburetor. I'll come back and leave a message about how this first rebuild went. I used to own a landscaping corporation years ago, which was large enough to employ 14 men. We put our equipment through hell, and I maintained all of it myself. You forget a lot in 30 years... brushing up. Your video is clear and concise, and I'm ready to jump on it at 6 AM sharp. Thanks!
I’m rebuilding this same carburetor on a Stihl HS45 hedge trimmer. For some reason the primer bulb won’t pump any fuel from the tank and yes the fuel lines are install correctly.
great video, very helpful one question the I took apart and cleaned my fs38's carb and the trimmer runs fine but the primer bulb does not fill up with fuel. I was wondering if u have any ideas?
i throw a stihl carb in the trash can because someone told me was bad so i had to buy a new one for a 135 dlls i think all it need was rebiuld i feel such a dumb lol good video ,hope u make videos on how to rebiuld small engines

Thank you so much! Found my screen was clogged and cleaned it. Now my trimmer’s running like a million bucks!
Once again, your video allowed me with my very limited knowledge and skills of small engines to get my trimmer running 100%
hey nice to hear!
this is absolutely the best carb rebuild video on youtube! you are so good - everything was crystal clear to follow. next weekend i'm rebuilding!
I replaced the fuel line and fuel filter in my FS55 trimmer today using this video as a guide. Also cleaned the carburetor and fuel tank as you show here as well. Thank you for posting, I've passed on your channel to several friends.

Thank you! Your instructions were clear and your video saved me a headache.
donyboy73 you made my day!!! i was looking this tutorial from a long Time!!! Superb video, excellent quality and step by step instructions...Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks for the video. It give me the information I needed to go in and clean the carburetor on my trimmer. Has never run so well!
It worked like a charm- thank you so much. You're a hero to dummies like me.
Wow. Detailed and thorough. Gratitude, dude.
awesome video thank you for showing us the right way to fix things
Good video! Rebuilt my carburetor this afternoon and it worked perfect. Thanks for your help.
Dony your last two videos are exactly what I needed to know on my chainsaw and FS55, thanks man!
This is helpful, just purchased a FS46 gonna do a clean/rebuild before I even try to get it running. I noticed the fuel lines are much different than most I have worked on they appear in great condition.
Thanks for the how to video!
sometimes easier just to replace the whole carb
The best video ever! I could actually see everything you wanted us to see. The focus was up close. Just awesome, Donyboy.
A true professional, thanks Dony, respect. NZ.
desde Argentina muchas gracias donyboy73, tengo la misma Stihl FS38 y gracias a ti aprendia hacer la carburacion!!!
+Daniel Ledezma you're welcome
I just fixed my FS38 in a few minutes thanks to this video. I was so close to throwing it in the trash!
Will the same kit work on a stihl fs 45 string trimmer.Thank you for taking the time to make this video.Videos like this is why i love you tube
You are *very* good on making these videos.
Thank you.
Absolutely the best video ever! Thank You!!
Very helpful! Trying to get my FS 45 running as July 4th pastime. I think its been hit by caramelized gas.
Thanks heaps
you can also get complete Chinese carbs on ebay quite cheap
Mate - that's a quality vid. That step by step makes it so easy to follow. Keep up the great work.
Donnie Boy is one of the best!
Exccellent step by step instructions! Thank you.
I learn a lot from you donyboy73. Thank you!
As always Donny, great video! I like the closeups and your warnings! Excellent!
Great instructions, and camera work, very professional, many thanks.
Are there any adjustments to be made with the High and Low adjustment screws?
Dony' would it be possible in future vids like this one to give the symptoms that led to the repair, or even better a demonstration of the machines problems that led to the diagnosis & successful repair. your the best on YT
Your video saved my bacon. Trimmer would only run on choke, and not very long. With your help I was able to disassemble and find the problem . . . gas had congealed inside and needle valve was totally clogged. Cleaned that up and it runs just fine! Any suggestions re optimum type of gas? I'm using a lower octane now.
Amazing video with great close ups of the parts and very helpful tips about the cleaning and rebuild. I'm very impressed. Thanks so much for this!
Thanks for the instruction! Much help on my rebuild, very much appreciated!!!

Well done! Very clear and easy to follow.
Hey Donyboy; another well done vid, thanks. You speak clearly and steadily; your camera is steady and on task. A Pro you are!
+Patrick McMurray thanks
excellent video I love your videos as they are very clear, easy to understand, and you dont rush through steps... nice and easy for a non-mechanical guy like me. Thanks :)
Glad you like them!
Great presentation - clear, concise and comprehensive. Just what I needed in preparation for a rebuilt. Congratulations Donyboy73 Joe Nova Scotia
thanks joe
Excellent my man.
My fs38 is currently running fine but eventually I will be doing this for sure.
Hi Dony, sometime in future could you cover off how you determine which carb kits suit a particular engine?
Hey, first off, thanks for the instructional video. I followed the steps but my whacker is only able to run for about 15 seconds before shutting down. I can’t figure out what’s happening. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
hey don, what do think i should do with gas i take out of small engine tanks and gas i use to clean parts?
my John Deere will only do full throttle when it's warmed up for five minutes and the high screw makes no diference does it need to be rebuilt?
A big THANK YOU for all your videos Donboy !!!
I just watched your video for rebuilding a carb on a FS38 still trimmer. I have this trimmer for 2 years now works great expect when I rotate the trimmer to the right. When I does this it bogs down and stops. I would appreciate any info on this thank you

I’m rebuilding this same carburetor on a Stihl HS45 hedge trimmer. For some reason the primer bulb won’t pump any fuel from the tank and yes the fuel lines are install correctly.
It is like working on a watch...LOL.
