Quite why ED hasnt adopted this mod as an actual module I will never know...they are further on with the A4 than ED are with the F16! The team responsible deserve much kudos!
I think it's the A-4 team themselves not wanting to join ED ranks. They want to keep this free, so they are doing just that. Fully agree that this "mod" puts to shame some of the official content.
Have they developed their own flight model or adapted an existing one? Seems like they've done an amazing job and it would be interesting to know their process for doing something like this.
@@trolleriffic Basically any other mod for DCS in existence featuring EFM utilizes a template named "Cpt. Smiley's F-16 mod". It came with a source code and it had shown to everyone who was curious enough how to implement a professional grade (since it was sourced from NASA, no less) external flight model based on the Technical Paper TP-1538. Since then the mod itself was sadly abandoned in favor of ED's own F-16, but the template remains available nonetheless. By the way, Cpt. Smiley moved on to work for RAZBAM. Then comes nibbylot who adapts the template to work with another research paper named NASA Contractor Report 3144, which is dedicated to modeling of an array of helicopters. Out of the ones in the paper he picks the OH-6 and builds the AH-6J mod, but he also abandons it in a "mostly done" state. Currently, out of all the attempts to utilize the template THIS is the most fleshed out one (although I'm not quite sure the aero data for it comes from any NASA paper).
I once created 178 fully animated visual effects shots of the A-4 for a teaching series. Seeing the A-4 here in DCS makes me really want to get my hands on it. Downloading today! 😁
Best i can tell the "Ange of attack comp" switch 5:32 slaves the radar to the horizon so that when you pitch up or down your radar can still see a clear picture of the sky. This means if you dive on the target and try to range it with radar your radar wont actually be pointing at the target thats in your gun sight it will be looking in the sky. So if you turn the switch off it slaves the radar to the gun sight to allow you to range targets with the sight.
Hello reapers as usual you did a great job! For the A4 jockeys as far as the wondering why steering becomes a bit tricky......the nosewheel steering is removed and we have to use differential breaks to maneuver on the ground.....a bit tricky but that´s the way it is
I was wondering, why I couldn't get the CP-741 to work with your (now old) tutorial last weekend. I just thought I was stupid. Thanks for the update! As to the AoA comp.: propably because the radar dish needs to be locked to the forward-position in the nose in order for the computer to calculate the right slant rage... just guessing here though.
I'm not sure if they accept donations! From what I can remember they can't monetize this in anyway.. If there's a way I won't hesitate to donate full price for this!
Probably the best mod we have so far! thank you so much to the modding community. I'm currently using this free mod to get my friends to fly DCS, sooner or later they'll be forced to buy a flight stick then a hotas system, head tracking then VR and a bunch of modules.
@@bunburyodo Yeah! Let's Spread The Gospel of our lord and saviour Wags!!! There's a lot of sinners out there playing Ace combat, Hawx, BF and others.. Let's save their souls. :)
Absolutely lovely mod! Just flew it today for the first time, and given that I heard it was designed to belly land on those wing tanks, I couldn't resist the soft grass of the Caucasus. Turns out you don't get the fuel tanks in the Free Flight, but it landed on its belly quite nicely!
This mod was done super well. The thing that I find pretty depressing is the lack of the F-4 Phantom, I mean there is the F-5 but it's not the high-performance fighter the F-4 was and without it... it really hurts Vietnam campaigns, but still. The A-4 really shows how much fun the aircraft of that era were, in terms of kinematics the A-4 and the Phantom would both still be viable today, but the avionics are a bit too primitive.
How is it this non-DCS add-on plane as good as any DCS module I have purchased in the many years I have owned DCS? I love this module! I would love it if these guys would do an F4. Yeah!
Very small comment (infinitesimal) CIRCA 1970: The Navy Tac(tical) Manual for the A-4E restricted the carriage wt of Stations 1 & 5 to 300#s. Only carried Mk-81s for bombs (Lots of other stuff, Winders ACMR Pods, etc.) during 4035 hours in a Scooter.
What exactly is the difference between the CMPTR and the LABS mode? Where does the computer get its information from which Bombs are installed to calculate the correct drop path profile?
So, the short answer is that CMPTR is meant to be used in a shallow dive, and uses the radar to aid the mechanical computer. LABS is a much earlier system which is typically used to toss bombs nearly straight up, which theoretically allows the aircraft to egress the area prior to the bomb going off. GR has a good video demonstrating this with the F-86 th-cam.com/video/VzRgzLo1lT0/w-d-xo.html . I'm not sure about the LABS, but I'm pretty sure that the loadout is manually entered by the ground crew for the CP-741/A.
Which "game braking errors"? The only affected "mods" were those where people would steal either ED's flight models, avionics/cockpits or both. The A-4E mod is completely its own thing, don't expect any "braking" in the long run.
when I downloaded and installed this mod, put the aircraft in the mods folder and did everything correctly, I launched the game but it said that this DLC is not authorized and will be disabled.. What can I do about this?
@@specoppo agreed strictly speaking... But its actually somewhere in the middle admittedly closer to game than sim. And hense I said f35alike.. As in its a vtol jet with stealth capabilities and a awesome optical sensor system obviously inspired by f35....
@@grimreapers Better consider getting their Jetborne Racing. Not only it does NOT require VR, the idea of putting a semi-realistic fighter jet into a 3D track is more engaging than you might think. Although it clearly IS semi-realistic, the FM more or less resembles that of the F-16, so it can be pretty challenging to fly (considering there's enough obstacles on the course). I didn't buy the thing myself, since I would never consider it to be of any use to me, but a friend gifted it to me and it turned out much better than I imagined. Now I wish we had those "circuits" (properly scaled) for DCS too :) If you enjoy canyon runs in DCS, you should enjoy that game too. Edit: it also supports HOTAS and TrackIR, and you are going to need them with the title, despite how it sounds and looks.
2:18 Why can't the official modules have something like this? Especially when flying in Veeeee Orre, you just don't pull up some pdf files... 4:58 What's the actual difference to the LABS setting then? I mean, it basically works the same way, but now includes the use of the radar.
