Yo gs you are putting in round one your radar off but a a4 has a simple rwr so it cant see range and direction only missle launghes

And once you get used to using rudder pedals when it starts getting wobbly, you'll see it can hold way more slow speeds than it seems at first sight

Recently an Indian Air Force (Upgraded) Mig-21 shot down a Pakistani F-16. The avionics of the Mig had been vastly improved in a refit.

It's like the Vietnamese version of Smith or Jones. I once taught a physics class where 8 of the 28 students in the class had this name. I joked with them in telling them that they would have to wear name tags around their necks while in class.
Glad to see you using the fishbed now, though I'd like to see you fight something more competitive like the F-5. The mig21 can pull a lot harder than what you were doing fairly confidently, maintain about 20 degrees AoA but if you're desperate you can do 25. If you see the red lights next to the windscreen you're pulling too hard although it can mean other alerts.
If it'll make you feel any better, Viktor Belenko said in his biography "MIG Pilot" that while in a simulator after his defection, he had an F-4 literally disappear right in front of him.
He found out where the F-4 was about 15 seconds later...
Great dogfights! Using the correct early missiles for the period made this video much more enjoyable for me.
Hey man, long tine viewer, think I’ve watched all your DCS vids from day 1. Quick suggestion, tacview is really at its best when you get your bandit buddies to comment with you, like you did back in the day. The dialogue is both entertaining and really helpful in understanding what went down. Keep it up!! We have to get you in a real F16 sim against some air force pilots as an experiment.

Great one! There is a small lever on the base of the gunsight that will get rid of the net on the gunsight so you can better visability and clean front view. :)
Also be carefull with the flaps as with the flaps down the 21 will limit the engine power available to you , so you are actually worst off and you can't pick up speed. Same at landing.....

Normally when you play there is an agreement between you and the bogey of a merge then the battle is on ! In this scenario which was a real life scenario. In a asymmetrical warfare well done. Just wondering why the merge did not happen then the dog fight begins. Good show my man and maybe from time to time you can show your bogeys point of view and narration there of. Can’t wait for the next one we love you all here at the Wolfpack squadron on the ACOL Our ready room is on FB ( acol WOLPACK ) it is a P toP to compete but not near the quality of the DCS VR😞. But definitely soon willing to The entire set up for the DCS then undoubtably we will rock whoop whoop ! The system that I’m getting has the A-10 stick & throttle configuration and as a Hilo pilot I don’t believe it will take long for me personally in free flight to get acclimated. TY and God bless Ps. Love to see a Mig-21 take on an F-104. Don't know how evenly matched they are, but two interceptors struggling to dogfight would be fun.
The F-8 Crusader would have made a much better fight.
Wanted to make this match-up as the mig-21 is most like the F-104. Fast, Sexy & built for interception only. Cheap & sexy & easily ambushed fodder do not a good 'fighter' the mig-21 make.
I wonder if we'll get a MiG 15 v A4 fight, that'd be interesting.. Also, seeing GS farm the ground with his MiG21 was quite a sight, i normally dont see him plowing like that unless he was already badly hit lols.. nice again!

Only if DCS had the Microsoft Simulator scenery and weather it would be the perfect simulation. MS 2021 the scenery matches the country down to the buildings / homes In DCS every building / homes looks the same no matter what country you are flying over.

Those A4’s were a nimble little aircraft I used to work around them in Rossy Roads for launching AQM-37 & BQM-74E back in the 90’s but mid 90’s they were thinking to replacing them with the F-16’s for our site ATS cuz of altitude restrictions and because they were getting old and the parts were scares.

Gs I think it would be awesome if you tried to reach out to your community to interview some aces. Several Vietnamese aces are alive today and it would be awesome to hear there stories, tactics, etc. In my opinion it would also be awesome to document primary source details about this stuff.

If you're trying to keep a Vietnam War era fight period authentic, don't use the MiG-21's special afterburner mode, that was only available on the MiG-21bis which wasn't available until after the war.

What I find intersting: What version of the 21 are you flying? Because the latest versions of the MiG 21 had their gun removed. Missiles only.

Say, I noticed something at the start of round 2 that I couldn't wrap my head around... why is the MiG-21 constantly trying to roll to the left? I never heard about the 21 doing this. Is that some weird characteristic of the airframe that I did not know, or did you have trouble trimming the aircraft for some reason?

Another thing is Vietnamese didn't have fuel for dogfighting, just for scramble, intercept and RTB, especially in early models of 21's.

A question - does anyone know why a TV-guided supplement hasn’t been implemented on an air-to-air missile? With a crew of two like the Super Hornet or F-15E, the RIO could ensure that the IR or radar guidance isn’t fooled by counter measures.
I guess the simplest answer to your question would be that any sort of electronic guidance between aircraft and missile could be jammed. Most command guided missiles such as the anti-tank tow missile, are wired. Also where is this camera going to be? TV camera technology was not that small back in the day. Nor would a television guided missile be useful in a night time situation.
@@WALTERBROADDUS It could. But missiles like the AIM-54 and AIM-120are guided by the launch aircraft until they go pitbull. And I was thinking more like today. The camera only has to be good enough for the RIO to keep the guidance on the target a/c, not countermeasures. A camera like that would be very small and light weight.
@@Blablablabla1ify but the point of both of those missiles is typically long range. So where are you getting the visual? Plus any nose camera has a limited view. And it's still useless at night or in cloud cover.
