    Another idea turn guard thrust into a chargeable stance that allows the lance to spin and “drill” into the monster, building toward an injured/tenderized spot on the monster and accumulating Agro as well.

    Longsword main here, got focus mode but none of those special attacks. I'm cool with that though as they've extended the combos and made it even more fluid. Had a great time in the Wilds beta.

    Nice video, very good points! It feels like maybe this dynamic spacing is kind of the "gimmick" for this entry, coupled with focus mode. Cause dynamic distance is a built in thing for range weapons for example. And now melee weapons also get this aiming aspect to them. This coupled with the more realistic environments feels in line with the direction the game is going into. The more variables come into play, the more advanced hunting can be and the more opportunities they have to expand on in future games. They'll likely polish it some more for the full release but like each games gimmick it will be a bit janky until the g rank DLC or the next game. Side note, this also feels like the problem we had with underwater, gauging distance and aiming was tougher. If they figure it out with this game I would more likely expect underwater to return...

    3:15 Lance main here. Definitely agree that the lance is rising in popularity because they added a bunch of heafty attack and ease the learning curve to utilize the guard. I think these are good thing. However, its not a good thing if they diminish the weapon's existing toolkit and characteristics. Lance since gen 1 has been a weapon about 1.precise positioning 2.rapid unrelenting attack 3.guard. 4.precise counters (since 3rd gen) Some of the changes they made here has made lance imprecise, more sluggish, and does not give enough rewards to precise counters (perfect guard in wilds terminology)

    I completely agree, but I think this is ENTIRELY why Focus Mode exists now. They want to make a game with dynamic environments instead of the flat maps they've been doing? Changes were needed to make that possible. Let's see how it works out.

      I have to admit it didnt even feel that bad for me, while I mostly use gunner stuff, I did try lance, SnS and HH and all of them felt fine enough that I didnt consciously think "oh this feels bad" fighting on dunes, I think the automatic control for elevation sorted it out However, I also just kinda knew subconsciously to not fight there, and go lure the monster into the basin on the dunes

    You should be looking at your environment. I'm glad it's not flat. I don't even like the term imperfection in this case. Secondly we have control of our hunters in the air now if you noticed. I never agreed with people complaining about ledges. It's like why the hell aren't you looking at your environment.

  • @Waddicker
    @Waddicker 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Truthfully I don't think a majority of the playerbase is going to consider mixed terrain that heavily. It does impact the game in certain significant instances, but most people somewhat "intuitively" know how to deal with all this terrain variation. There were definitely instances where I noticed the terrain was making my job a lot harder, but not in a frustrating way, and not in a way I couldn't compensate for as a hunter. "Fighting at the apex of this dune is making things a little difficult, lets coax Balahara down into the bowl of the dunes instead." Which is also probably why stuff like luring pods exist now, to micromanage where you can choose to fight. The fact that monsters can also even alter the terrain quite massively too with attacks also makes it even more important. I think it's a very neat aspect that makes me think about my environment more than ever before, to a point it no longer feels like a separate aspect to the monster. The two felt distinctly separated before in a very gamey way, and that's no longer the case now. Finally it's all fully combined seamlessly together, monster, items, weapons, locale, all working together tightly in unison.

    The slopes are awfull yee, but honestly the Wilds map has been better than 80% of Worlds roster of maps Ive been playing since the first game, and while Monhun moved away from this 1o1 with the monster in a pre-designed arena to a living and breathing world where you fight a monster, i think it works. Ive found myself using focusmode for almost 90% of the time in wilds and that helped a lot, especially with slow weapons, to hit the monster. But damn i still hate the desert, and hate is even an understatement. Its worse than ancient forest in the 2 desert areas due to the slopes.

    Great video. I think something I noticed is the hunter animations, especially when you get hit on a slope. feels like the hunter gets up slower and covers less ground. I also noticed new animations like rolling on your side when you get up. Not sure if its new but these hunter animations feel much more slower. its like there's a variety of them rather than just 2.

    Short reach weapons will be a pain to play, gunners weapon will be a pain to aim and longsword users will be obvious to the issues due to their long reach and gaslight anyone complaining about the terrain... Yeah, I can already feel it happening. Mainline game have gone this direction for a long time. Whelp, let's hope the portable team keep the flat terrain on their side of thing, like they did in Rise. They're always the one who bring the fun concept to the series, while the main team mainly bring frustrating ones. Underwater in gen 3, terrible maps in gen 4, clutch claw in Iceborne, it has become a trend.

    Focus Mode is your friend here. Enemy on a slope? Aim up/down. Slope making it hard to deal with an enemy attack, start thinking about the ways Focus Mode increases your mobility. Just wait til we get things like Evade Extender or whatever mobility enhancing skills they come up with this time around. I don't think we've even scratched the surface of Focus Mode yet and I think that all of the issues you outline here will be largely addressed by the mode and its interactions with other systems.

    People trashing on Insect glaive is so weird. It's probably flashier than it has ever been, although the controls are clunky. You can use triple extract to do badass moves, and using focus mode lets you seamlessly use kinsects. If they really liked the aerial IG, they should play rise. I love aerial IG there.

      I've returned to world and rise after the beta, and I was shock at how ass the weapon felt in wild in comparison, I thought it was just me being too harsh but no, it was slower, (not talking about the kinsect) I was forced to use claw grip and use focus mode most of the time, the aerial is just shit idk why they remove it completly, anyway I disagree with u, the weapon is just worst than before, they took too much and didn't add enough (I've spent 15hours learning the weapon in the beta)

  • @healexhelixvideos4680

    As someone who started in Tri, I feel like the series has been moving in that direction with each game, with regards to increasing terrain complexity. Third Gen had underwater combat, which was fully controlled 3D movement. Fourth Gen started adding very intentional and very obvious hills to do mounting attacks. Fifth Gen the whole maps could become more vertical, on the macro scale. Now I'm sixth gen we get it in the micro scale too. Honestly, I have liked all of these changes. For as long as I have been playing, there has been varied terrain. In 3U, there were spots where dual swords couldn't reach a large Brachidios's tail, and other spots where it could more easily reach the tail. Also, the rough caves and rolling dunes felt much more authentic, at least to me. I noticed this the most when I was fighting Ray Dau. When using both Lance and Hunting Horn, I realized that I had to be more aware of my positioning, and not just my spacing. Once you adapt, flat terrain will feel like child's play. This game is going to make you be more cognizant of your surroundings, especially on inclines. Come at it again with an open mind, and you'll likely find that you enjoy it. After all, Monster Hunter isn't a hack and slash, it's a monster hunting simulator.

      Button hold on pizza cutter is a QoL improvement from Rise. It means that if you get hung up on a bad hitzone, instead of being forced to sit through the animation , the sharpness loss, the low damage, you can just swing through and move to a better spot. It's not something you always need to make use of but it's nice to have when things don't go as you expected for whatever reason.

    • @lightfire2012
      @lightfire2012 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      having to hold the button for savage axe's multi hit was a thing in world. it was a good thing cause you can cut the attack short if you needed to. they fucked it up in rise cause you had to commit to the full animation and all the consequences it brought. rise fucked up every weapon playstyle in general by slicing up the moves and forcing you to choose between them. charge blade got hit the hardest cause you couldn't have savage axe and you know, charging your blade, on the same moveset. it was ass. sadly, wilds has a similar issue that rise had with CB. if you activate savage axe and the monster moves, you lose all that damage and you're stuck until the animation ends. thankfully it's never resulted in me carting but it's only a matter of time.

    A problem i had was with my beloved Hunting horn, the focus strike needs a rework. haven't seen much of other weapons but i suspect IG has the same problem, where the focus strike keeps the monster from doing anything for a few seconds. in multiplayer, once good builds are made that are able to cause wounds more often, being able to gang up on a monster regardless of it's enraged or not, feels like a lite magnet spike. other weapons like greatsword have focus strikes that last maybe 1-2 seconds. idk, being able to use pseudo pin attacks on monsters many times my size just doesn't sit right with me.

    I have always said the worst mechanics in monster hunter were all introduced in 4. slopes, ledges and mounting. none of them benefit the fight. they are at best style points at worst constant hazards. the amount of time where I started sliding when I just wanted to reposition is sicking. "fucking ledges!" is practically my catchphrase. mounts in single player are just a short minigame that dose almost no damage and rewards you with a damage window so small that by the time your character stands up the monster is too. in multi player someone mounting cause the monster to flail erratically or worse fly out of reach. which means nobody gets to play for 2 minutes.

I'm over a thosand hours in world and I just fell in love with DB. I believe that every weapon can be enjoyed by almost anyone, given enough time and experience. It's by and large the most subtly nuanced weapon in the series... at least from the main 14 I know about, haven't touched Magnet Spikes or Tonfas - but hopefully one day I'll put some time into Frontier Z. Getting back to Rise and Sunbreak, I think the former tainted my view about it's evolution up to that point. I had only played Lance in Iceborne prior at the time, and right now I've been going through the old games but as a dedicated lance main with my friend who is a hammer bro - he's only played World so it was my opportunity to show him the older games. So having these Ariel options like Twin Vines in Rise and Skyward Thrust in Sunbreak really didn't gel with me, but if I had ever tried Lance in Cross/Double Cross I would have seen similar things in the Ariel style being toyed with - among getting a parry in other styles that I'm assuming is better insta-guard (We are at the end of MH4U so I'm not sure about that yet). I knew about insta-guard being able to do just about anything out of successfully landing it back when it's frame window was like... 1-2 frames for a "strong" counter that was super weak - you had to treat it like Fox's shine from melee to do interesting things with it outside of it's intended counter. But I'm glad you talked twin-vines up more - I really need to get back into Sunbreak so I can do more with it and get comfortable changing my defense into offense in more lateral ways than the triple poke, reposition, or strong attack mindset. Lance is a great weapon and it warms my heart to see niche MH content creators give it love even if Longsword has kind of grabbed the multitudes as Lance sits with Gunlance in the least of all time picked category (though it has been a while since I've looked at polling for Sunbreak weapon popularity).

    I have two sides: One is focused on slipping and sliding around a monster's attacks while chipping away at their feet with Dual Blades The other is a wall, standing there while countering the monster with Lance. Both are immensely satisfying lol

    As a bow main I just want more cool ranged options. The bow guns are nice but are just guns at the end of the day. I always imagined a sling could be a cool new ranged weapon so we could get a blunt ranged. Or maybe a giant flail that is good at melee but you can charge it up like a hammer and throw the ball to deal blunt damage and pull yourself around the hunting area. Or we could get something like thrown weapons like a javelin/hand axe/throwing knives. Just something capcom, something new.
