They didn't go to court with the case, but anyone who has ever seen the full episodes knows she is guilty. Why would they need to prove she is guilty to us in court, we we saw her killing with our own eyes?
Yes but although the external symptoms were the same could a toxicologist tell one from the other by performing a toxicology test? Also her career as a cosmetologist does not sound like it would take her to a place where there would be poisonous plants. While on the other hand the extract of poison ivy was used in cosmetics back then according to the episode.

After watching this scene many many times, it has just dawned on me that the brilliant Vera Miles was trying to effect with her expression the fact that she threw away a formula that was perfectly profit-making because she mistakenly thought it had given her poison ivy.
What always bugged me about this episode is that the entire show is set in Los Angeles; but there is no poison ivy on the west of the Rockies! It poison oak out there!
Find his performance in the original Mission Impossible episode. He plays a moist minor official, pining after a young model who is WAY beyond his reach. He's icky in that episode.

The character "Columbo" the way Peter Falk turned him into was totally his idea. You can the original "Prescription Murder" tv film with Bert Freed playing Columbo. It's no where near Peter Falk's version. It's on you Tube. "Columbo - Enough Rope/Prescription: Murder - 1960 - KHAZ' REMASTER"

In this case she could have plead guilty and not did the investigation and she would have got off with manslaughter. So this was a lot of investigation for nothing. The room is always never talked to the place under any circumstances don't tell him what happened don't tell them what you did yesterday just don't tell him
