I like the episode with Robert Foxworth as Frank Brailie (Grand Deceptions) where Columbo tells him that he knew that Brailie was the murderer right from the start.....Brailie was too arrogant a man to clean up mud from a floor. That's what Bailie was doing when Columbo first met him. Love the crumpled genius and the way he takes some people down a peg or three.

Yes that one always gets me! Only in soaps, and not real life, do people come home then open their front doors and shout the name of the people living there! Have you ever done it? I certainly haven't and for good reason. Writers used to use it in order to help name characters who were just about to appear. I write and wouldn't use it as its so cheesy; there are more subtle ways to name characters!

      Suspects ... not exactly ...
... but under suspicion ... absolutely. The one amazing quality about Colombo: he was like a bloodhound ... one whiff of suspicion, and he is onto you, relentlessly, until he finds his 'smoking gun' (or, as is this case, identical tooth marks on a peice of cheese, and chewing gum) ...
I bet he was offered promotion to Captain many a time, but he preferred being a 'gumshoe' (pun very much intended ...) working the streets as a homicide detective; I also bet there was a quiet competition amongst whom would be the next sergeant working under him, as he was the detective's detective ... a walking masterclass in piecing innocuous pieces of evidence that entraps the villain every time, like a slow closing steel trap, until it's too late ...
R.I.P Mr Faulk ... you were to Colombo what James Earl Jones is to Darth Vader; Peter Cullen is to Optimus Prime; and Kevin Conroy was (may he too, rest in peace) to Batman: all _sine qua non_ (without which, not) of their respective rôles: many imitations, no emulations ...

For me, Columbo is the all-time best detective. I was brought up in England, but was never a Sherlock Holmes fan. To me, he resembled many of the Greek philosophers who thought that the world's problems could be solved by sitting down and thinking, without real-world testing. I preferred G.K. Chesterton's Father Brown, who had a similar style to Columbo.

    • @rosario508

The teeth are unique to an individual; even a single tooth of a person is highly individualist to a person. Bite marks inflicted by the teeth are similarly considered to be highly individualistic to a person and are hence of considerable
importance from forensic point of view [48, 49]. This aspect of forensic odontology has received substantial attention in scientific writings and media to its controversial aspect [50]. There are many cases in which the bite mark evidence has been considered important and has led to the conviction of the culprits. Bite marks may be present on the body of the victim on sites such as cheeks, buttocks, legs, lips, or any other part of the body or can be seen on the arm or face of the attacker against whom the victim has tried to defend. The bite marks can also be found on the eatables like hard cheese, butter, fruits etc. The cast of the bite marks can be made or photographs of the surface can be taken and compared with the original or the cast of the teeth [51]. Missing teeth, malformed teeth, fractures, crowding of the teeth, diastema and other peculiar characteristics of the teeth are helpful in the comparison process on these individualistic characters.

The first one is a bit sketchy because I hadn't seen it but twice, and that many years ago. But it involved an Architect building a major highrise in the city who at one point in the story made quite a fool of Columbo when he ordered a dig in the middle of an expensive project to find a body which wasn't there. Another I enjoyed was about the dentist who applied slow poison to his victim via some dental work. The other two involved women. The episode with Anne Baxter who played an actress/murderess and the other with Ruth Gordon who played a murder/mystery writer who murders her son in law. But there are many memorable episodes which I didn't mention here.

His character, John Drake, always won the day using his wits, not bullets. In fact it's said he turned down the role of James Bond because he thought the character too violent. His portrayal of King Edward I in the movie Braveheart was the best thing about the film. Apparently he and Falk got along so well that McGoohan ended up writing a couple of the Columbo scripts.
