This was a good choice. It's the one Maynard recommends to play for someone who hasn't listened to them before. Each member gives so much to this song.
Actually 10 000 days is equivalent to about 28 years, or close enough to it..not 3 years. I believe this album is a tribute/ode to Maynards mother who struggled with a debilitating disease for that many years.

You decided to get back into piano as an adult, found him, started taking lessons for a few years, and just thought “god damn, this guy’s insight is genius and I have to share this guy with the world” and decided to make a YT channel.
Classical musically trained, it would be interesting to hear his opinion on "Invincible" from the newest album since it's almost entirely in a 7/8 (or 3/4-4/4) time signature, even when the tempo changes.
I agree. It's a very intelligent way to construct a song. I'm not really a metal guy, but I love the way these guys piece together their music. Sometimes it's like an auditory puzzle to me

Tool musical journey is in my personal opinions one of the best artistic journeys you can go on...From this to Third Eye all the way from Wings for Marie to Lateralus, The Grudge to Schizm, EVERYTHING.. This band is such a wonderful gift to humanity! I would recommend diving into the lyrics more and trying to understand what the songs mean. Nevertheless, enjoying these videos a lot!
@@GreatmeasuresDefinitely read lyrics. But don't read them while you're reacting. Maynard is very adamant that he/his lyrics are not the center of attention. He knows the music is the genius of the band and he uses his voice as an instrument. The lyrics are meant to be digested later and the more you listen to them.
As soon as Judson said, they were hanging from the ceiling and covered in silver stuff and were doing weird stuff on stage, it really brought me back, and he is correct. I saw them in 2001, they were doing their tour for Lateralus and what he is referring to was when they played Schism live. I saw them in 99. There were people wrapped like worms wiggling and hanging from the scaffolding above the stage. It was ridiculous. The screen wrapped around us and the visuals were indescribable. It's hard to picture what he was describing when he said they were behind a screen, but they literally were.
Bro, listen to the lyrics. The song is about hypocrisy. However, it is said to originate from an incident where someone traveling to Maynard's place in Arizona was stopped and arrested for marijuana possession by a sheriff who would later be busted for meth and solicitation of prostitution. Pot calling the kettle black, kangaroo courts, throwing stones in glass houses, muddying the waters, house of cards, lemon juice in the eye to fake tears (weeping cozened shades of indigo), and my favorite line: Liar, lawyer, mirror...what's the difference?

Hahah, I went to a show during that tour. The silver people swinging from the ceiling were the acrobats hired for the Schism music video.
Please do Vicarious. I don't see that one too often and would like a classical musican's take on it. Love this band. Just saw them recently in Philly.
Hey, you may like the following listening session with him : Igorrr - Tout Petit Moineau or Corpus Tristis from the same band ;)
I like these guys man
I always felt hardcore hypocrisy! And I have come to respect the lyrical genius of Maynard!
I saw that tour too. The two or three people hanging from "ropes" doing "tricks." At some of these we balked.
It would be cool for y'all to get into their song structure too. I think this track moves from 4/4 to 6/4 quite seamlessly, which is not really noticeable unless you're listening for it
More Tool. Do "Lateralus" and demonstrate their genius behind a song structured to the Fibonacci Sequence.
I just subscribed because I felt everything bro, what the fuck was he doing hahahahhahahahaa
10,000 days is how long his mom, Judith, suffered from crippling cancer before dying.
She died before the album was released, so he named it that.
It’s 27.4 years. 😢
