Dude their drummer Danny Carey is a literal genius/virtuoso. You should watch the drum cam of their song Pneuma. He makes the main pulse of 33/8 sound like child's play, super organic and natural yet tastefully exciting. Though honestly almost every Tool song will show his genius
If you enjoy odd meters, polyrhythms, seamless time signature changes, the crunchiest guitar and bass, with deep lyrics, you just found your favorite Band.
This is one of their more simple displays. And it’s also amazing. Buckle up sweetheart. If you’re a music nerd you’re in the right place. I’m not a musician but these guys are the first ones to make me wish I was. That is all✌️
Ladies and gentlemen, we got another one.😁 Welcome to pretty much the greatest band that ever was. I envy you, honestly. Enjoy the ride! I suggest you next check out either Schism or The Grudge.🤘🤘👍👍
The best part is that he listened to one of their simplest songs, and could listen to it over and over again and pick up more. Then the rest of the catalogue comes and...well it changes people. Especially musicians.
This was one of the better reaction videos I think I’ve seen, it was a lot of fun watching you nerd out to the technicalities and idiosyncrasies. That, and it made me grin every time you said “I think I’m getting it” because that’s about the time that they move on to the next thing. You’re in for a fun time, my dude.
Duuuuuuude!!!! I love finding new reactors discovering tool! You are in for a helluva ride. This is the literal tip of the iceberg. You have a great reaction and you are about to get bombarded by the Tool Army!
As a drummer (me too), you owe it to yourself to listen to their entire catalog. Start from the beginning, Opiate then Undertow and so forth...you will be changed forever. Enjoy the journey. \^^/
For real if you're a drummer just go ahead and listen to all of Tool. There are other drummers just as good...but as consistent? I'm not so sure. He's literally never recorded a single thing that isn't fantastic.
@@JoeGreen-t8q - Not to mention that no other of the greats I've heard (Peart etc) have attempted the degrees of dificulty that Danny has challenged time and again. I meancan anyone point me in the direction of another drummer attempting 4 different time signatures at the same time one for each limb? I'd also love it if some nerd at some point counted the number of drum hits per song and then do the same for the other greats. My guess is he also surpaces all else on sheer volume. I mean every song is basically a long drum solo.
You've just stumbled into a great rabbit hole for drummers!! Not to mention, certain TOOL songs get a LOT of views, and this is one!! Their fanbase is loyal, and hopefully, you'll tap into that! Another fun one is "46 and 2". Its extremely syncopated!!
This is perhaps one of their most straightforward songs. You're a drummer man. You're in for an absolute brain explosion as you move along the tool journey. Subbed and here for more tool vids
For a band that has been around about 35 years, they have only released 5 full albums and 1 EP. It takes them quite a bit a time to carefully construct each song. and when an album is released, it is always well worth the wait! Quality over quantity.
Thats partly true, they were tied up in litigation between 2006 to 2019, with their old record label. They weren't legally allowed to release new music under the identity of "Tool". That's why they didn't release any music as "Tool" between the albums 10,000 Day's and Fear Inoculum.
@Ogt92 I saw them first in 1994. 3 more times covering all there tours except 10,000 days. Saw them last in May 2022 during Bonnaroo in Nashville. They just keep getting better.
@Ogt92 Awesome! I've seen them the 4 times. There is nothing like seeing them in concert. I wish I could see them this year, but I don't think they are coming to Nashville this year.
Holy shit seeing a young musician hear Tool for the first time is so satisfying. And this is just about the most straight forward of songs for late stage Tool. Wait til he hears their more complicated stuff. You just watched a Tool fan being born.
How has anyone never heard of Tool before?! If you love rock but more importantly, if you love important lyrics and aound, then there is nothing better then this band!
What's awesome is watching people 'dance' at TOOL shows live. Everyone is rocking with a completely different instrument, and different beat. It's hilarious.
What you have heard is the song that is used to introduce TOOL the "virgins" because despite being a great piece it is the simplest, catchiest and "easily digestible". So if this seemed technical and complex to you, you now have an idea of what the rest of the discography can be like.
I find myself coming back to watch your Tool Reaction videos over and overrr again!?.. (I'm literally about to watch this again right now, it's 1:03am, Wednesday May 1st over here in Australia, I swear, this is probably the 19th or 20th time I've watched this video since you uploaded it, hehe) I just love your reactions so much! I Absofrikkinlutely LOVE them! Not just because it's Tool that you're reacting to, but because of your whole 'Vibe', there's just 'something about it' that keeps me coming back for more.. Keep up the good work mate 🖤🎶
I recommend 46&2 for your 2nd song. I wouldn't want to throw you in the deep end too early. I already know you're going to listen to every tool song. And by the way, you're going to have a real difficult time keeping up with Danny. Good luck, and I'll be here for every tool reaction. Anyone who knows what syncopation is is all right in my book
The I Dream of Jeanie thing at the beginning of the video cracked me up! Welcome to the world of Tool. But beware, it can become your main source for spiritual inspiration, and the 9 times I've seen them since 2001 have been the only communal religious events I've ever experienced. All those Sunday mornings in my youth at Church led to atheism. Then Tool brings me to tears at the first concert, and I feel spirit for the first time. The syncopation of the band channeled this spirit through the whole audience. Then it happened again, and again, rinse and repeat. I've seen years' worth of concerts and those 9 Tool shows, and a few Deep Purple shows in the mid-80's have no equal. Go see Tool while you can and carry on.
This is actually one of their more simple songs, lol. Just listen to everything. You won't regret it. I'm also a band geek, and they've been my favorite band for 25ish years.
I love watching musically inclined people when they first hear the brilliance of tool. The facials progress from surprise to confusion and concern to excitement...and im saying yes, i know! Welcome to the trip❤
Welcome to your first Toolgasm. They are a truly unique band, their entire discography is ridiculously good, Danny Carey is one of the greatest drummers of all time (my personal favorite, no offense to the master Peart or so many others). Since you’re new to them, I might suggest Vicarious, Aenema, Schism, and The Grudge to “whet your appetite” (these aren’t necessarily their “best” songs, but maybe most accessible), but really the true Tool journey is to work through their discography from start to finish. I’d also echo others, go ahead and check out the Vic Firth drum cam video of Danny playing “Pneuma” live. As a drummer, it’ll blow yer mind. Cheers!
A live show is absolute bucket list. My heart leaps when I see a reaction like yours. You are going to have so much fun and joy and...well,Tool is going to rewire your headspace.Enjoy!
Believe it or not, most of this song is in 4/4, with 3/4 (plus a 9/8) in the rising bridge figure. What makes the intro so funky is that you hear the vocals as being the quarter note to start, when they are mostly dotted eighth rhythms, so it really messes with finding the steady beat at the start… brilliant in its complex simplicity.
Subbed for the TOOL journey. This and the Danny Carey drum cam reactions are already two of the best reactions of those I've seen. Keep them coming my dude 🤘
Oh wow, you just unexpectedly entered the greatest rabbit hole for music and drumming! As others mentioned, Forty Six and 2, The Grudge, Lateralus and Schism are great next songs and of course the drum cam for Pnuema, but if you want another song by Tool that I believe even Danny Carey said was tough endurance wise, check out Vicarious! Enjoy the ride my friend and Spiral Out!
If you are a drummer, you really should check out the video of their song Pneuma which has the camera on the drummer Danny Carey for the whole song. You will really appreciate it as you see exactly what he is doing.
I’ve been a Tool fan since their start(I’m old LOL!)love seeing people discover Tool for the first time, especially when they are musicians. Your reaction was among the best. Came here for Tool but stayed because I like your personality and vibe. New sub.
It’s going to be a fun journey. Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole. Such a fun band to discover. Tool fans will all say your favorite Tool song is the one your listening to.
so cool to see people reacting on Tool when they hear it for the first time ..... love it ..... I am addicted since the early 90s ....... Tool is literally the end of the way.... i am listening to and love various genres, but nothing compares to Tool´s craftmanship finally......
If you think this song is about: • Weed, yes • Hypocrisy, yes • Led Zeppelin, yes • Corrupt judicial system, yes • Maynard’s own hypocrisy (coming off of Wings), yes
TOOL is like a rock/orchestra their music is very complex and the lyrics are amazing! They have been around for over 30 years and just evolve and get greater!
The song is mostly in 4/4, but the polyrhythm is structured in a 3-3-3-3-4 pattern, which is why it sounds so odd (and why the time signature switch is so seamless halfway through!)
One of the best "The Pot"/Tool first time reactions I've seen, and I've seen quite a few. Not to dissimilar to seeing a Rap fan discovering Black Sabbath via War Pigs for the first time (If you haven't already, you really should). Your knowledge and appreciation of such things as rhythm, counts, patterns and beat added a lot to the reaction Hell of a tune. First time checking you out, I shall be back.
Love your channel dude! I think that individually & as a band, this is one of their best. It’s scary, it’s tribal, it’s groovy, the fat bass line from Justin with Adam’s riffs complementing them & Danny letting that drive the song w Maynard building the tension on vocals, it’s just SO good. The lyrics have a story behind them & every instrument, incl. MJK, shines without overpowering each other. It’s insane that Danny has never used a click track, & if you’re interested, Maynard writes the lyrics after the instrumentals are done. He drives around in his car listening to it to get a feel for what it’s telling him. I saw this live in early ‘07 at a 100k festival they headlined (no mobile phones, everyone lighting up even though that’s not what it’s about, early internet days hey!), & even with a career in music in the past & everything I’ve been to, I’ve never been so genuinely mesmerised, yet sure I was going to die in a mosh pit that is hard to even describe. It was wild. Great reaction, it’s obvious you’re a pro & you know what you’re talking about & you comment on things that are actually useful to know. You’ll blow up in no time, pls don’t change your format! It’s so light, fun & refreshing. Request: Sober (live version), Vicarious & The Patient. Welcome to the Tool Army 🫡 🌀
As a serious Tool fan since 1995, I'm really enjoying that I get to watch people's minds be blown by what they do. It's so fun!! What is even life right now 🤷👌
You are a rare reactor that actually has something to offer. Not just entertaining, but cerebral. I really hope you'd consider doing Tool's entire discography from start to finish. You will see the evolution of the greatest band of all time!
Sober, 46&2, Lateralus. And pnuma drum cam video are what you should check out next for sure. Especially as a drummer, you will have a greater appreciation for "The Octopus" aka Danny Carey.
We usually introduce people to the pot first, because it's mostly just syncopation and generally their easiest entry song. You're going to love the journey ahead, can't wait to see it! Same tips I always give for tool reacts: - Avoid official music videos for a first listen, they are art but are super disturbing to the point of being really distracting - Lyrics can be handy, tools singer is usually pretty low in the mix and the lyrics are always great. Your choice ofc - Some songs are meant to be listened to together, most as a single song. Some are more obvious than others, so just always do a quick search and check if other reacts do them combined. Because you're a drummer, the live drum cam of Pnuema is a good next step imo
My favorite band of all time. You'll dig them. They're unlike any other group. I know everyone says that about every band. But dude, yeah. They really are.
This is my absolute favorite song to sing. My (lack of) vocal technique has improved so much by trying to match Maynard exactly, after about 75 times of singing through this. I recommend this song to anyone who wants to improve vocally.
The first time watching your reaction video and I would have to say absolutely loved it😊 also love that you like the drums that's badass and I'll have to say I was very lucky enough to see them live 1999 Red Rocks amphitheater Denver Colorado 😮😊was the most amazing show I ever seen 😅 Never Forget that Show all my life was Life changing 😊love the video Thank you 😊 Kevin Colorado
Parabola WITHOUT the distracting video !! I’m obsessed with it ! Listen to it daily for a year now. I remember a psychedelic experience where I was so very glad to get back into my body !! The guitar licks are wonderful in it.
I cannot imagine being both a metal head, and drummer, and hearing DC for the first time. I've been into Tool since high school. The Pnuema drum cam is an amazing video that really shows off a lot of DC's technical abilities. If you want another view of Danny's skills, watch the video of him playing YYZ with Rush.
THESE GUYS ARE ON A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. THEY'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR DECADES AND STILL CONTINUE TO EVOLVE AND PUT OUT MASTERPIECE AFTER MASTERPIECE. I CAN'T EXPRESS MY DEEP LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR THESE GUYS
Bro, I understand what you're feeling right here. I remember when I felt this for the first time....a very long time ago (I'm 40 and discovered Tool in High School). These guys send tingles raging up and down my spine every time I hear them. It so cool to see you experience Tool for the first time and see your mind explode out your ears! It gives me such joy to see the younger generation experience and appreciate fantastic music. You need to deep dive this band. Listen to each album for about 6 months before jumping to the next. You need time to unravel everything. If you partake....Tool+psilocybin=Very happy boy with third eye wide open. Otherwise, listen, unpack, enjoy.
I am already a microdoser and partake in the Stamets stack with lions mane. Ya Boi started his spiritual journey a few year ago and never looked back.🙏🙏 Spiral out, as they say 😁
Loved your reaction! As a percussionist with roots in world percussion (age 19) that transitioned to a kit (at 25), music that speaks the polyrhythmic language on a kit is my fav…i hope you do more 😁
so many people, I have known who refuse to check out Tool, and once they do, this is how most of them react. The lyrics for Descending are going to really blow you away.
Mmmm... a new tool fan being born.... I love witnessing a live birth. Damn, great reaction, New sub incoming. Kwachao!!! (That's the sound I make when I hit subscribe)
Tool is literally an endless supply of amazing music, I honestly cant think of a single song of theirs that doesn't illicit an emotional response, I never tire of Tool. If you are into discovering more interesting music and time signatures, Id also like to encourage a dive into Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison is stunning on drums.
As a drummer you might like all of their discography. He’s among the modern drum gods. Also from the same album is the song Vicarious. That shit is always a banger
I'm in. The next Tool song will be your favorite, and it will keep going like that until all Tool songs have been heard. Then you will realize that the singer has two other bands.A perfect circle, and Puscifer. It is a very deep rabbit hole.
As a fellow groove digger, visual timekeeper, master beater of the four skins, I truly appreciate your take on one of my favorite bands of all time. Keep going...
Tool is 4 geniuses that by some divine intervention came together and here we are with brilliance!! 🤘🖤 Absolutely top 5 fav bands of all time!! It's like wine, they just get better with time! Danny is an amazing drummer!! Literally the best imo!!

Welcome to the Tool army, homie. I love seeing new heads discover this band. One of the greatest imo. You’ve just earned a new sub. Cheers 🍻
As a serious Tool fan since 1995, I'm really enjoying that I get to watch people's minds be blown by what they do. It's so fun!!
What is even life right now 🤷👌
I know, my brain exploded the first time I heard Tool, so many decades ago. I love ❤️ Tool, always will!
Welcome to the spiral. As a fellow drummer, u have just started a special moment in your life. The TOOL journey awaits u
You are a rare reactor that actually has something to offer. Not just entertaining, but cerebral. I really hope you'd consider doing Tool's entire discography from start to finish. You will see the evolution of the greatest band of all time!
Love seeing a new tool fan being born. This is my favorite song never gets old
I love watching musicians trying to keep time or figure out the timing when they first listen to Tool.
I’m
Excited for you ! More tool
Please
I fed off your first time energy like it was my first time again. Thank you!
Same tips I always give for tool reacts:
- Avoid official music videos for a first listen, they are art but are super disturbing to the point of being really distracting
- Lyrics can be handy, tools singer is usually pretty low in the mix and the lyrics are always great. Your choice ofc
- Some songs are meant to be listened to together, most as a single song.
I’ve been listening, studying and playing music for 67 years, all styles - this is my favorite song in the broad “rock” category.
If you liked the sustained fry at the end, definitely check out the grudge. You'll know why when you hear it😆
Welcome to the Tool Army, young man.
I'm assuming I can count on many more dopamine hits from watching you discover Tool? Dude, please!🙏
This reaction was priceless, you’re the perfect candidate for a new tool reaction, i loved it!
Welcome to the Tool army. Check out the drum cam videos. They will melt your face off
Bro, I understand what you're feeling right here.
As a percussionist with roots in world percussion (age 19) that transitioned to a kit (at 25), music that speaks the polyrhythmic language on a kit is my fav…i hope you do more 😁
You'll have a lot of good surprises with this band.....I'll never thank Tool enough for what their music has done to my life....
Enamored with Tool since 1992...Seen em 6 times..1st time in 1996....
so many people, I have known who refuse to check out Tool, and once they do, this is how most of them react. The lyrics for Descending are going to really blow you away.
Good sir…you have barely scratched the mere surface of a rabbit hole you will be happy you ventured further-tip of the iceberg 🖤😁
Mmmm... a new tool fan being born.... I love witnessing a live birth.
Damn, great reaction, New sub incoming. Kwachao!!! (That's the sound I make when I hit subscribe)
I'm so glad you're loving Tool, they're truly special band. I'd recommend Invincible, Vicarious or Lateralus to do next
My dad got me into Tool and I make sure to save there songs for special occasions because it would be all I listen too if I didn't
Danny on that drum solo going between the 22 and 24 kicks still blows my mind
Tool is literally an endless supply of amazing music, I honestly cant think of a single song of theirs that doesn't illicit an emotional response, I never tire of Tool. If you are into discovering more interesting music and time signatures, Id also like to encourage a dive into Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison is stunning on drums.
Omg that first Porcupine Tree album is a musicians cornucopia.
As a drummer you might like all of their discography. He’s among the modern drum gods. Also from the same album is the song Vicarious. That shit is always a banger
ok i sub'd for the tool journey. The pot is the shallow end of the tool pool. no bad songs.
Welcome to Tool my friend. 😊
Keep ‘em coming, Tool Army will show up to support you.
Great reaction. Subscribed!
I'm in. The next Tool song will be your favorite, and it will keep going like that until all Tool songs have been heard. Then you will realize that the singer has two other bands.A perfect circle, and Puscifer. It is a very deep rabbit hole.
I'm late to this video, but this is my favorite reaction to one of my favorite songs. Eargasms all over the place!
As a fellow groove digger, visual timekeeper, master beater of the four skins, I truly appreciate your take on one of my favorite bands of all time. Keep going...
🤘🤘🤘
Can’t wait for you to hear the rest of what they’ve got.
Tool is 4 geniuses that by some divine intervention came together and here we are with brilliance!! 🤘🖤 Absolutely top 5 fav bands of all time!! It's like wine, they just get better with time! Danny is an amazing drummer!! Literally the best imo!!
You have the charisma to be a full-time creator/personality. Good for you, dude. Keep making content.
Keep the Tool coming and I'll stay subscribed.
From all the Tool Army around the world - WELCOME!
I enjoy this song so much I just watched 5 reactions to it in the last couple hours, which I also did in 2020 when I first found reaction videos to Tool (except I watched so many in a row I got burnt out for a few months, oops).
Less than a thousand subs… do more tool reactions and watch that grow and fast! I love to witness this! Us Tool fans love watching you become one of us! 😂😂😂
Queen, no kidding! I was at 470 when I posted this video. But subs don't matter, so much, smiles do ^^
great reaction. Tool fan being born. I am checking your channel and pray you have more Tool, if so I am for sure subscribing. If not well....... So many to pick from
