Turning the phone face down it’s a very effective little trick that’s worked for me too. I never check my phone unless I need to call or text or check my calendar when it’s placed face down.
The concept of a rainbow calendar was an unexpected gem in this video. It not only organizes the day but also brings a visual joy to planning. I'm excited to implement this into my daily planning!
-Distraction Sheet (sticky notes) -Today’s Adventure (Daily Highlight) -5 min rule (doing the task for 5 minutes is better than not doing it at all ) -Rainbow Calender / Rainbow todo’s -Physical Alarm Clock -Not watching YT/OTT/TV etc.
@amreenmusani1 by changing how I perceived value. To me, time is everything and it’s limited. I asked myself how would I feel if I spent half my day watching TV and if I would feel satisfied when I am 65 (half my life would have been spent on TV). This was enough motivation to change to a healthier habit like learning or doing something social. Either get rid of the distraction or change how you see it so it doesn’t take over your life. You only have one to live.
Set small goals for yourself so you can reduce time on it and start to occupy your time with things you truly feel are important. It only takes around a month for your mind to get used to it. Be consistent and it’ll work out.
I watched a few productivity videos and this one is by and far my fav!! So many videos have really obvious tips, like "eat healthy". The tips here are genuinely applicable, original, and super helpful! And the editing is amazing. Thank you!
I actually merged the « note what you have to do instead of doing it now» and the « 5 minute rule » by putting these notes in 5-min, 10-min and 15-min folders so depending on the time I have I go pick notes from the proper folder

This is my first Ali video and I love it! I’m a retired English teacher and when I was working I had my own set of ‘rules’ for managing my day. The list of things to do was definitely one to do! I kept adding things to the bottom of the list but it was very satisfying crossing off the ones at the top. Now that I’m retired I often have plenty of time in the day and at times I’m really undisciplined- after forty years of pushing myself I reason that I’ve earned it! However, I recently learned about the ‘one minute rule’- if you can do something in less than a minute, do it now. It’s amazing how effective this is! It can be something as simple as putting away the folded washing, putting stuff in the recycling bin, tidying the bench top. Nothing earth shattering but very satisfying. Anyway, thanks Ali- love your work!😊
Honestly, these tips are not unique or new to me but the way you explain these habits so logically is what struck through my thought process and I'm going to give my best to use them. Thank you for providing a genuinely great video.

One more thing that's really good to do if you're a student or you are learning something new and use TH-cam to learn some stuff is to have two TH-cam accounts, one for studying and one for entertainment and stuff in your breaks. I especially love the idea of capture any thoughts down rather than trying to remember them, the rainbow calendar (especially working with the ideal week and actual week calendars), 5 min rules (start anything hard for 5 mins only, and 5min is better than nothing) and the focus phone app. Very empowering!
Ali, I'm truly grateful for these videos. I am currently trying to implement these strategies and my favorite would probably be the 5 minute rule. I've probably heard it before, but I'm 100% sure that no one has simplified it to the level that you did. Thank you Ali!

Good to hear the videos are helpful. I have ADHD and an app I've found very useful is RoutineFlow. It involves chunking various tasks together in blocks with time periods. For example, when I get home on a Monday, my routine is: spend time with wife - go for a run - play the cello - do an hour of deep work - study or learn something. Before I start this routine, the app tells me what time everything will be finished. If I spend more or less time on an activity then end time updates to accommodate. I have a morning , after work and evening routine ready to go. They've helped so much.

Cutting out TV is something I've done for the last 2 years and it feels GREAT. I used to watch 1-4 hours of TV a day on average and it started to really bother me because I could FEEL my time just slipping away uselessly. I only 'watch' now - mostly listen - on youtube to things that I'm trying to learn, like your productivity videos, video editing tutorials, color theory, etc. pertaining to the businesses I'm trying to build. It's so helpful to not watch TV! There is a small downside to not being able to talk about whatever the current show/movie is with work peers, but for me it's worthwhile to miss out on those conversations and keep life in order and improving.

Hey, Ali. I have banned the tv-channel non-sense zapping and have put myself the rule that tv has to have a content that either mean something to me or teach me something valuable. Hidden Time Wealth is so unique. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it sooner. It’s amazing how life-changing this can be for anyone battling procrastination.
Discovering Hidden Time Wealth has been one of the best things I've done for my productivity. It feels like I’ve finally cracked the code to overcoming procrastination.
thanks for continually posting great content! I had a thought for you to consider adding to future videos like this one. I may be an outlier, but in case I’m not, it would be super helpful to recap each point you made during the video at the end. The reason being I listen to many of your videos while I am driving, and you often have a lot of great takeaways that I would love to be able to have stick in my mind. I listen to your videos to learn new things and since I do the bulk of it while driving, that kind of recap would be helpful. All the best!
The way Hidden Time Wealth dives into the concept of productivity is mind-blowing. Hidden Time Wealth tips are pure gold, and I wish more people knew about them.
I’ve always found the simplest way to save time is to make lists. If you have a lot to do in one day, MAKE A LIST of tasks in order of priority. This accomplishes two important things. One, it frees your brain up from the stress of trying to remember what you have to do. Two, it ensures the most important jobs get done even if you don’t manage to do everything on your list. But my experience is that as you tick off each finished task, you actually do get all the jobs done in much less time than you thought you would. This gives a tremendous sense of accomplishment, makes you feel organised and in control which stops you feeling stressed. And gives you the time you wanted to do something more enjoyable and relaxing. I find it works every time.
I had to watch at 50% which is probably too slow for most but there are other options for speed. Change speed of playback tap setting top right on the playback screen it's the cog icon. For those who didn't already know. 😊
I moved over a month ago and do not have a tv. I don't miss it. I used to sit down most nights and watch a couple episodes of Better Things or Judy Justice (don't judge me, LOL) while I would eat dinner and maybe fold some laundry. I would also find myself binging shows on my "rest" days, which is not very restful. The only thing I now wish I had a TV for is to have a movie night with friends, so that feels pretty cool!
That last one just reminded me I have another episode of Succession to watch! Which I watch alone, enjoy, and count as “me time”. Some things are just worth watching, and, I would argue, add cultural value to your life.
AWESOME video, with great tips. If we are all honest with ourselves, we WASTE tons of time daily just doing BS 'escapist' activities to procrastinate from getting some real shit accomplished. The five minute rule is golden. By eliminating the time wasters, we have more time to do the important stuff, and are actually BANKING up some future free time that we can schedule some fun stuff. MUCH better in the long haul, and at the end of the week or month, we can likely chart better progress on our goals. It does seem easier to develop bad habits than good ones, but your tricks certainly streamline the productivity.
The 5 minute rule is definitely something i have to try. Personally i stopped watching TV several years ago and I don’t miss it at all. I prefer spending my time learning through books and online. Feels like a better use of my time. All the best.
I love the TV with friends only rule! I hardly ever watch tv.... But YT has certainly an issue for a while. So I'm stoked to try the One Sec App. Focus mode and phone face down rules were also things I already did. But the physical alarm clock is intriguing! I'm totally guilty of getting sucked into the phone at night when I'm setting my alarms. I've used my phone's alarm clock for years and never thought twice about it. But that was more of a health thing for me. Waking up to the loud, droning alarm tone of a digital clock, or the shrill bell ringing of an analog-both would spike my nervous system and I'd basically wake up gripped in panic. So I've never thought twice about using my phone and its pleasant sounds to wake up to. But maybe I'll give the clock another go and monitor any improvements. Thanks for sharing!!
Dude, never watched any of your videos and I get it about the time consumption and utilizing - but you're talking so fast and I couldn't keep up with all your great ideas.I swear after switching to x0.75 speed this video was perfect. Thank you!
The funny thing about productivity is that no matter how efficient and productive you (think you) are, there’s always room for improvement. Thanks for another great one! 😊
because once something becomes a habit, you can perform it quicker and more efficiently, giving you even more time/space to be more productive. it's a (positive) self-perpetuating cycle! 😄
Power to you Ali. Thanks for sharing. I'm fan of all productivity hacks and the book Getting Things Done. Your videos are a treat and a lesson all at once.
There's a book called Hidden Time Wealth, and it talks about how using some secret techniques, you can overcome procrastination and accomplish anything in life. It's not just a bunch of empty promises; it's the real deal.
I don't watch standard TV or have subscriptions for Netflix or any other streaming service, and it saves me no productive time. I usually work about 10 hours daily, and more is not feasible. My brain gets tired, and my eyes get tired... However, I can still decide what to do with my free time, and I found out I rather spend it drawing, knitting, reading, cooking and sometimes gaming while listening to audiobooks rather than simply watching TV. What I do watch is - obviously - youtube, but here I can choose stuff that is helpful to me, like new cooking recipes, crotchet patterns, science lectures etc. All these activities feel like time better spent than simply watching TV.
Superb! Very important to know this - Time is money and when you are multitasking, you need to save every minute. Great work, Ali. Thank you for sharing this.

I’m a nurse. you’re a doctor and you actually make tea for the nurses? I’ll bet you’re a nurses LOVE YOU!! 😊 I couldn’t help but focusing on that comment but I really enjoyed the video and plan to implement it in my life
For us as non-English speakers, watching TV can be a kind of STUDYING since we have to check many new words. For example, I have a notebook and I write new words and fancy sentences in it. And I also review them once in a blue moon. BTW, thank you for sharing your experiances.
TV time is the time I spend with my partner on the sofa, chilling. We normally don't get there until after 8.30pm and in bed for 10.30. I need time to wind down before bed, and having a hug on the sofa watching something we can bond over is valuable for my mental health!
My TV rule is that I don't watch tv unless I'm eating or folding laundry. Both of these tasks take about 30-45 min to do so it prevents me from binge watching. Once I'm done with the task, I can feel the procrastination if I were to watch another episode.
I watch TV but intentionally, all auto play is off and I have certain shows I watch. If I find myself channel hopping it means I need to turn it off. The TV has a timer on it also! I find it a happy medium
I did my Masters degree whilst working. This meant a lot of evenings, weekends etc (& therefore no tv/social media/nonsense stuff). When I finished the course and had all that time back I realised just how much spare time I actually had outside of work hours!
I am an ardent fan of Mr. Abdaal. I have read many of the recommended books. First, I used Microsoft To Do for years and finally replaced it with TickTick, which can be as simple or complex as you like it, including a color calendar. Second, plan your entire week rather than shuffling the adventure deck ever day. I call it Monday Morning Quarterback. Third, stick to a schedule etched in stone but preface the day based on priorities. This habit allows for flexibility should the need arise to immediately put out a fire or a challenge. Once again, you are great Mr. Abdaal.
Watching TV regularly is basically the decision if I want to watch others live their life or if I want to live my own life. I generally watch only in company or when I'm sick.
I sometimes watch comedy series while having lunch ,which is actually fun and refreshing , but watching TV before sleeping makes me not having the best sleep afterward
Ive found a change to a flip /foldable phone with a very small fromt screen has helped a lot ..closing the flip is also psychologically akin to keeping away the phone
I agree it saves a lot of time and energy not watching TV. It will no doubt increase your productivity. Watching with friends, or watching sth that really interests you is differnt experience. Ali made some very good suggestions here. I don't like the covert Apple product advertising, like the packet of new phone etc.
Turning the phone face down it’s a very effective little trick that’s worked for me too. I never check my phone unless I need to call or text or check my calendar when it’s placed face down.

I’m sorry Ali, I’m a TV guy. My rule is: I never watch TV until 8 pm at night. During the day I can do all my work and exercise but at 8. It’s TV time. And it’s worked so far.
Me too
Same
There’s a reason there’s a channel called Cinema Therapy!
Love the new feature of time tracker for each individual topics - saving more time 😊
thanks for continually posting great content!
Am I the only one thinking about how Ali actually calculated the exact minutes every tool saved him? 🙂
Nope you are not the only one 🙂
just get better at METH
And wasted 2 minutes in calculating 💀
Oh sorry, I mean 120 seconds.
He didn't, it's a random number. 😄
Nope
I never watched TV until people convinced me I was living under a rock. I now realise that I actually got more done underneath that rock😂
3er rock from the sun???
Hi!! Can you tell me which app you are using for the Rainbow Calendar?
I’m impressed by Ali’s productivity habits, but I’m more impressed by his math skills for calculating the exact minutes every tool saved 😊
That last one just reminded me I have another episode of Succession to watch! Which I watch alone, enjoy, and count as “me time”. Some things are just worth watching, and, I would argue, add cultural value to your life.
Love the Daily Adventure idea!! Re-framing the activity from feeling apprehension to slaying it is interesting and I’m gonna try it!
So much packed into a short video! Thank you!
The 5 minute rule is definitely something i have to try. Personally i stopped watching TV several years ago and I don’t miss it at all. I prefer spending my time learning through books and online. Feels like a better use of my time. All the best.
This video quality is crazy man keep it up
1. Capture
2. The Daily Adventure
3. The Rainbow Calendar
4. 5 minute rule
5. The Focus Phone
6. The Alarm Clock
7. Not watching TV
@mandelkuchen2288 I just saved 10 minutes on this video today by looking for a summary comment like yours
7. Not watching youtube….
Man, the quality of your videos are literally the best!
Glad you like them!
Dude, never watched any of your videos and I get it about the time consumption and utilizing - but you're talking so fast and I couldn't keep up with all your great ideas.I swear after switching to x0.75 speed this video was perfect. Thank you!
You can reduce the speed
I have not seen tv for like 7 years and i am 23 y.o. and never felt that i need to watch it again
Best eleven minutes I spent on social media, thanks for this suggestions bud!
Your videos have inspired me to pursue my passions.
Power to you Ali. Thanks for sharing. I'm fan of all productivity hacks and the book Getting Things Done. Your videos are a treat and a lesson all at once.
That last track had ME gasping for air. Amazing stuff, congratulations and thank you!
Thank you so much for all you tips and advice! You always bring fresh perspective to the table 😊
wow im so bad at time management thing throughout my whole life, but recently i got influenced by my bestie n these r exactly the tricks he taught me!!
Hi...I like the pace in which you are talking. It's just perfect for me
I’m a nurse. you’re a doctor and you actually make tea for the nurses? I’ll bet you’re a nurses LOVE YOU!! 😊 I couldn’t help but focusing on that comment but I really enjoyed the video and plan to implement it in my life
For us as non-English speakers, watching TV can be a kind of STUDYING since we have to check many new words. For example, I have a notebook and I write new words and fancy sentences in it. And I also review them once in a blue moon. BTW, thank you for sharing your experiances.
great advice and love the idea of the alarm clock i feel like i stay on my phone way too long at night before bed
Another great video from Ali as usual :) Keep up the great work!!
Awesome content. Humble man. Loved how he was making tea for the nurses.
Your videos are soooo addictive literally 👍
Honestly dude you are the best and most effective content I get on TH-cam.
I watch TV but intentionally, all auto play is off and I have certain shows I watch. If I find myself channel hopping it means I need to turn it off. The TV has a timer on it also! I find it a happy medium
The best and my favorite youtuber. Very aesthetic and productive video.
I did my Masters degree whilst working.
This meant a lot of evenings, weekends etc (& therefore no tv/social media/nonsense stuff). When I finished the course and had all that time back I realised just how much spare time I actually had outside of work hours!
“Making tea for the nurses”. As an American nurse, this totally won my heart. Our doctors are…not going to do that. As a rule.
Abdaal.
I am SO glad you were on Mark Manson's podcast! Otherwise I never would have discovered your channel ☺️ Very cool video, thank you 😊
You can also use the saved time to REST, doing nothing, reading, sleeping or being creative
Watching TV regularly is basically the decision if I want to watch others live their life or if I want to live my own life. I generally watch only in company or when I'm sick.
Great tips! Have been doing most of them. You’re on to the point! Thanks
How I love your HP references 😂 the videos are incredible
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us 🙏🏽
I have adhd i know those wont work and i am still watching this video
Especially the Capture idea!
The editing is magnificent
This is super useful! I really need to improve my time management haha and some of these things I'll definitely try 🙏
Hi Ali! Do you recommend planning your calendar everyday or weekly?
I agree it saves a lot of time and energy not watching TV. It will no doubt increase your productivity. Watching with friends, or watching sth that really interests you is differnt experience.
Ali made some very good suggestions here. I don't like the covert Apple product advertising, like the packet of new phone etc.
