This is my first Ali video and I love it! I’m a retired English teacher and when I was working I had my own set of ‘rules’ for managing my day. The list of things to do was definitely one to do! I kept adding things to the bottom of the list but it was very satisfying crossing off the ones at the top. Now that I’m retired I often have plenty of time in the day and at times I’m really undisciplined- after forty years of pushing myself I reason that I’ve earned it! However, I recently learned about the ‘one minute rule’- if you can do something in less than a minute, do it now. It’s amazing how effective this is! It can be something as simple as putting away the folded washing, putting stuff in the recycling bin, tidying the bench top. Nothing earth shattering but very satisfying. Anyway, thanks Ali- love your work!😊

Cutting out TV is something I've done for the last 2 years and it feels GREAT. I used to watch 1-4 hours of TV a day on average and it started to really bother me because I could FEEL my time just slipping away uselessly. It's felt very awesome and has compounded my productivity for the last 2 years. I only 'watch' now - mostly listen - on youtube to things that I'm trying to learn, like your productivity videos, video editing tutorials, color theory, etc. pertaining to the businesses I'm trying to build. It's so helpful to not watch TV! There is a small downside to not being able to talk about whatever the current show/movie is with work peers, but for me it's worthwhile to miss out on those conversations and keep life in order and improving.
I personally adore the art of film and watching movies and tv shows, even going to the cinema on my own from time to time is so fulfilling for me, I really miss it when I stop doing it - like going on runs, doing yoga, meeting friends, reading books, and all that influencer-kind-of-stuff, I personally also really value watching movies that I'm excited about. It is on the same level as reading for me. As long as you live intentionally, anything that makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone is okay and you should do it.
Your name caught my attention and then I realised we've got the same sentiment too! I love watching movies and rarely have the time for them. I have to set aside time deliberately for movies and shows.

The TV thing is so helpful, I only allow myself to watch TV on weekends, and basically what it does is when I feel like watching something is I go to TH-cam, and I've curated my feed so it's all geography, math, and finance videos, so I can come out of it motivated and having learnt something.

I think your methods are great for anyone who wants to organize their day. Take what works for you and leave the rest.
Good to hear the videos are helpful. I have ADHD and an app I've found very useful is RoutineFlow. It involves chunking various tasks together in blocks with time periods. For example, when I get home on a Monday, my routine is: spend time with wife - go for a run - play the cello - do an hour of deep work - study or learn something. Before I start this routine, the app tells me what time everything will be finished. If I spend more or less time on an activity then end time updates to accommodate. I have a morning , after work and evening routine ready to go. They've helped so much.
Ali, I'm truly grateful for these videos. I am currently trying to implement these strategies and my favorite would probably be the 5 minute rule. I've probably heard it before, but I'm 100% sure that no one has simplified it to the level that you did. Thank you Ali!
I’ve always found the simplest way to save time is to make lists. If you have a lot to do in one day, MAKE A LIST of tasks in order of priority. This accomplishes two important things. One, it frees your brain up from the stress of trying to remember what you have to do. Two, it ensures the most important jobs get done even if you don’t manage to do everything on your list. But my experience is that as you tick off each finished task, you actually do get all the jobs done in much less time than you thought you would. This gives a tremendous sense of accomplishment, makes you feel organised and in control which stops you feeling stressed. And gives you the time you wanted to do something more enjoyable and relaxing. I find it works every time.
The funny thing about productivity is that no matter how efficient and productive you (think you) are, there’s always room for improvement. Thanks for another great one! 😊
because once something becomes a habit, you can perform it quicker and more efficiently, giving you even more time/space to be more productive. it's a (positive) self-perpetuating cycle! 😄
I moved over a month ago and do not have a tv. I don't miss it. I used to sit down most nights and watch a couple episodes of Better Things or Judy Justice (don't judge me, LOL) while I would eat dinner and maybe fold some laundry. I would also find myself binging shows on my "rest" days, which is not very restful. The only thing I now wish I had a TV for is to have a movie night with friends, so that feels pretty cool!
I did my Masters degree whilst working. This meant a lot of evenings, weekends etc (& therefore no tv/social media/nonsense stuff). When I finished the course and had all that time back I realised just how much spare time I actually had outside of work hours!
Dude, never watched any of your videos and I get it about the time consumption and utilizing - but you're talking so fast and I couldn't keep up with all your great ideas.I swear after switching to x0.75 speed this video was perfect. Thank you!
I had to watch at 50% which is probably too slow for most but there are other options for speed. Change speed of playback tap setting top right on the playback screen it's the cog icon. For those who didn't already know. 😊
AWESOME video, with great tips. If we are all honest with ourselves, we WASTE tons of time daily just doing BS 'escapist' activities to procrastinate from getting some real shit accomplished. The five minute rule is golden. By eliminating the time wasters, we have more time to do the important stuff, and are actually BANKING up some future free time that we can schedule some fun stuff. MUCH better in the long haul, and at the end of the week or month, we can likely chart better progress on our goals. It does seem easier to develop bad habits than good ones, but your tricks certainly streamline the productivity.
My husband and I watch one episode of a series together each evening. We really enjoy that time together and the tv is never on otherwise. Is it productive? No. But we love it. The trick is to not let that time expand into more sitting around doing nothing.
I love the positive energy that you have in your videos. You deconstruct complicated and simple concepts even further to make goals look more achievable. You also remind me of my brother who passed away in an accident in 2000. Your features are quite similar and you have that wonderful energy as well. He was one of the most wonderful human beings on earth. I am so glad you are here doing what you are doing;)
The 5 minute rule is definitely something i have to try. Personally i stopped watching TV several years ago and I don’t miss it at all. I prefer spending my time learning through books and online. Feels like a better use of my time. All the best.
wow im so bad at time management thing throughout my whole life, but recently i got influenced by my bestie n these r exactly the tricks he taught me!!
I watch TV but intentionally, all auto play is off and I have certain shows I watch. If I find myself channel hopping it means I need to turn it off. The TV has a timer on it also! I find it a happy medium
I’m a nurse. you’re a doctor and you actually make tea for the nurses? I’ll bet you’re a nurses LOVE YOU!! 😊 I couldn’t help but focusing on that comment but I really enjoyed the video and plan to implement it in my life
That last one just reminded me I have another episode of Succession to watch! Which I watch alone, enjoy, and count as “me time”. Some things are just worth watching, and, I would argue, add cultural value to your life.
#1 - No TV. So incredibly important. I went 7 years without television in the 80's + early 90's. They were the most productive years of my life. Anyone who is resistant to this idea does not realize (or is in denial) that they are addicted to TV. And, like any addict, they will be angry/uncomfortable and deny that they have a problem with it and immediately start to rationalize why it is doing them no harm and why it is a 'positive' for them.
My TV rule is that I don't watch tv unless I'm eating or folding laundry. Both of these tasks take about 30-45 min to do so it prevents me from binge watching. Once I'm done with the task, I can feel the procrastination if I were to watch another episode.
I don't watch standard TV or have subscriptions for Netflix or any other streaming service, and it saves me no productive time. I usually work about 10 hours daily, and more is not feasible. My brain gets tired, and my eyes get tired... However, I can still decide what to do with my free time, and I found out I rather spend it drawing, knitting, reading, cooking and sometimes gaming while listening to audiobooks rather than simply watching TV. What I do watch is - obviously - youtube, but here I can choose stuff that is helpful to me, like new cooking recipes, crotchet patterns, science lectures etc. All these activities feel like time better spent than simply watching TV.
I love the TV with friends only rule! I hardly ever watch tv.... But YT has certainly an issue for a while. So I'm stoked to try the One Sec App. Focus mode and phone face down rules were also things I already did. But the physical alarm clock is intriguing! I'm totally guilty of getting sucked into the phone at night when I'm setting my alarms. I've used my phone's alarm clock for years and never thought twice about it. But that was more of a health thing for me. Waking up to the loud, droning alarm tone of a digital clock, or the shrill bell ringing of an analog-both would spike my nervous system and I'd basically wake up gripped in panic. So I've never thought twice about using my phone and its pleasant sounds to wake up to. But maybe I'll give the clock another go and monitor any improvements. Thanks for sharing!!
For us as non-English speakers, watching TV can be a kind of STUDYING since we have to check many new words. For example, I have a notebook and I write new words and fancy sentences in it. And I also review them once in a blue moon. BTW, thank you for sharing your experiances.
I agree it saves a lot of time and energy not watching TV. It will no doubt increase your productivity. Watching with friends, or watching sth that really interests you is differnt experience. Ali made some very good suggestions here. I don't like the covert Apple product advertising, like the packet of new phone etc.
I love the idea of the Rainbow Calendar! Usually I see a calendar full of things and feel disheartened, but this is a good idea for visualizing the variety in a day. I’m going to give it a try!
For TV shows, movies or video games I’m typically more intentional with them as well. It’s wonderful to read, listen to or watch other people’s stories. But it’s equally important to live your own story and create your own. 🙂
Watching TV regularly is basically the decision if I want to watch others live their life or if I want to live my own life. I generally watch only in company or when I'm sick.
Ive found a change to a flip /foldable phone with a very small fromt screen has helped a lot ..closing the flip is also psychologically akin to keeping away the phone
Im torn between feeling inspired from watching the video and feeling that i wasted my time watching it realising that i somehow already know the principles behind the content of the video but it's the acting on it that's hard.
Not Watching TV really works. It's been a year since I switched to it. I only watch movies or series with my cousins, and that helps because they only come to sleepovers for about 5-6 days a year.
Getting rid of my tv around 15 years ago was the best decision ever, I watched so much tv in my youth that I don't think i need a minute more. Freed up so much valuable time for what really matters in life
Fun fact : I have to set the playback speed to 0.75x coz you sound a little fast speaking. BTW I always cherish watching your videos. I find your video content incredibly important for my life. Keep it up! ❤
I am an ardent fan of Mr. Abdaal. I have read many of the recommended books. First, I used Microsoft To Do for years and finally replaced it with TickTick, which can be as simple or complex as you like it, including a color calendar. Second, plan your entire week rather than shuffling the adventure deck ever day. I call it Monday Morning Quarterback. Third, stick to a schedule etched in stone but preface the day based on priorities. This habit allows for flexibility should the need arise to immediately put out a fire or a challenge. Once again, you are great Mr. Abdaal.
I stopped watching TV almost 4years ago, I don't miss it. It also saves money on the electric bill and has freed up my brain space for much more beneficial knowledge. Great video thank you for sharing
I found your channel only yesterday because I watch Mark Manson's channel and saw the vid with you two. You have changed my attitude toward work and simple tasks, thank you so so much! It's true, you can have fun with the most mundane tasks. You got a follow from me.
I sometimes watch comedy series while having lunch ,which is actually fun and refreshing , but watching TV before sleeping makes me not having the best sleep afterward
Well, for the not watching tv habit, what i do is workout or exercise while watching tv. So, if an episode is of say, 30 minutes, i put on a youtube workout video of 30 minutes and follow along while watching tv. This makes the exercises easier and faster as well because i'm focused on the episode. and i make sure to only watch 2 or 3 episodes instead of binge watching the entire season in one night. Also i don't watch the 3 episodes consecutively. I watch one episode in the morning while doing my morning workout, then one in the afternoon after coming back from school. Since after school or work we usually get super tired and studying or being productive after a long day at school just doesn't work for me so i just watch an episode of my favourite show at that time to rejuvenate. And then after studying in the evening, i get tired again so after dinner i watch another episode.
Power to you Ali. Thanks for sharing. I'm fan of all productivity hacks and the book Getting Things Done. Your videos are a treat and a lesson all at once.

Ali, I'm truly grateful for these videos. I am currently trying to implement these strategies and my favorite would probably be the 5 minute rule. I've probably heard it before, but I'm 100% sure that no one has simplified it to the level that you did. Thank you Ali!
One of my favorite self-development channels on TH-cam. It is very relatable, well-rounded, and practical. Thank you for sharing!
Wow, thank you!
The concept of Hidden Time Wealth blew my mind. It’s like finding a cheat code for productivity and defeating procrastination.
1. Capture
2. The Daily Adventure
3. The Rainbow Calendar
4. 5 minute rule
5. The Focus Phone
6. The Alarm Clock
7. Not watching TV
@mandelkuchen2288 I just saved 10 minutes on this video today by looking for a summary comment like yours
7. Not watching youtube….
I did my Masters degree whilst working.
This meant a lot of evenings, weekends etc (& therefore no tv/social media/nonsense stuff). When I finished the course and had all that time back I realised just how much spare time I actually had outside of work hours!
This week instead of TV I’ve watched Ali videos. Outside of that I’m just way more productive. Thanks so much Ali!
Dude, never watched any of your videos and I get it about the time consumption and utilizing - but you're talking so fast and I couldn't keep up with all your great ideas.I swear after switching to x0.75 speed this video was perfect. Thank you!
You can reduce the speed
I thought it would still be so much left when I realized it's almost done. Thr videos are never ever boring. So much energy raising
I’m impressed by Ali’s productivity habits, but I’m more impressed by his math skills for calculating the exact minutes every tool saved 😊
wow im so bad at time management thing throughout my whole life, but recently i got influenced by my bestie n these r exactly the tricks he taught me!!
😊 I couldn’t help but focusing on that comment but I really enjoyed the video and plan to implement it in my life
I can say that this is the calmest video you ever make and it makes it more enjoyable to watch 👍
You can also use the saved time to REST, doing nothing, reading, sleeping or being creative
It's amazing how small tweaks can lead to such massive time savings!
Your videos have inspired me to pursue my passions.
I never watched TV until people convinced me I was living under a rock. I now realise that I actually got more done underneath that rock😂
3er rock from the sun???
Hi!! Can you tell me which app you are using for the Rainbow Calendar?
Love seeing these short, applicable productivity videos from Ali 🔥
A lot more actionable for most of his viewers 🙌
Love the new feature of time tracker for each individual topics - saving more time 😊
I agree it saves a lot of time and energy not watching TV. It will no doubt increase your productivity. Watching with friends, or watching sth that really interests you is differnt experience.
Ali made some very good suggestions here. I don't like the covert Apple product advertising, like the packet of new phone etc.
Love the Daily Adventure idea!! Re-framing the activity from feeling apprehension to slaying it is interesting and I’m gonna try it!
I love the idea of the Rainbow Calendar! Usually I see a calendar full of things and feel disheartened, but this is a good idea for visualizing the variety in a day. I’m going to give it a try!
which app has this feature? I mean like the UI
@@PAbleBoo Did @AliAbdaal mention which calendar? Agreed it's a great UI.
For TV shows, movies or video games I’m typically more intentional with them as well.
It’s wonderful to read, listen to or watch other people’s stories. But it’s equally important to live your own story and create your own. 🙂
Hi...I like the pace in which you are talking. It's just perfect for me
You can also watch tv while doing something else. I usually paint with a podcast or series in the background~
Hi Ali! Do you recommend planning your calendar everyday or weekly?
Im torn between feeling inspired from watching the video and feeling that i wasted my time watching it realising that i somehow already know the principles behind the content of the video but it's the acting on it that's hard.
Not Watching TV really works. It's been a year since I switched to it. I only watch movies or series with my cousins, and that helps because they only come to sleepovers for about 5-6 days a year.
Getting rid of my tv around 15 years ago was the best decision ever, I watched so much tv in my youth that I don't think i need a minute more. Freed up so much valuable time for what really matters in life
This is My life changing video i am following you great work
Is there any other who has written down these all ideas. ??
Good habits and suggestions ❤ time management is the big challenge these days
Abdaal.
Best eleven minutes I spent on social media, thanks for this suggestions bud!
I stopped watching TV almost 4years ago, I don't miss it. It also saves money on the electric bill and has freed up my brain space for much more beneficial knowledge. Great video thank you for sharing
Awesome content. Humble man. Loved how he was making tea for the nurses.
great advice and love the idea of the alarm clock i feel like i stay on my phone way too long at night before bed
I am SO glad you were on Mark Manson's podcast! Otherwise I never would have discovered your channel ☺️ Very cool video, thank you 😊
So much packed into a short video! Thank you!
He should have recorded this at 2.0 speed, so then I could watch it at 4.0 saving me 8.46.
“Making tea for nurses”. Thank you Ali for supporting nurses!
I liked," finding a way to generate energy from that thing you're doing" which he calls daily adventure.
What do you do for your down time? Curious as everything is about productivity but what do you do when you just want to chill out and switch off?
I strive to have my life together like Ali 😇
That last track had ME gasping for air. Amazing stuff, congratulations and thank you!
Power to you Ali. Thanks for sharing. I'm fan of all productivity hacks and the book Getting Things Done. Your videos are a treat and a lesson all at once.
TV is a nice way to wind down during the evening. Far better to reduce social media use I think.
I stopped watching tv 5years ago..but addicted to mobile😓
Amazing video as always. I would love to know a step-by-step guide on how you created your rainbow timetable?
