  • A once-vibrant park near Oakland's Chinatown is all but abandoned now that homeless people have taken it over and set up tents. Da Lin tells us help from the city may be on the way.

They got RVs that look like 💩 and cars that look like they been in destruction Derby's flow freely around the neighborhood with no license plates. Everyday I see these bums harassing and or attacking people going to work on Bart. Tired of this 💩.

      For many- certainly not all- but for many, it is indeed a lifestyle choice, they answer to no one, are content to exist day to day, and reject anything offered that has conditions attached like housing.

      The longer they are allowed to congregate like this the more comfortable they are going to be with their situation over time. You're exactly right, yes there is an affordable housing crisis but moreso a drug epidemic coupled with mental illness which is why there are so many more on the streets.

    Good people are trying to do things like tiny house villages but those in charge keep setting them back. It’s way too expensive to rent in CA, even people with two jobs are on the streets. This will continue as long as we ignore issues like low pay, mental health and addiction. The gap just keeps getting bigger. People who worked hard all their lives and then retire or have health issues are finding themselves homeless.

    • @veelalynne
      @veelalynne 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have tiny house villages up the yin yang where I live and it’s really soured me on the homeless. These people only want a shelter if they have no rules to abide by, no responsibility and they are free to drug and trash to their hearts content, just like their tent cities. Otherwise, they’d just as soon be on the street. You can’t help people who don’t want help.

    It would be funny if it were not so tragically sad, trying to say the problem is that there is not enough housing.
    HELLO, IT IS A DRUG AND MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM
    There are too many magnets for the homeless in California. Excellent weather, great benefits, free needles. You won't get hassled for getting high. You can steal and it is not really a crime, as long as you steal less than a thousand dollars worth of stuff at a time. You can shoplift to your heart's content, and the police will do nothing about it. I went to graduate school in SF. I remember the old people doing Tai Chi every single day where 6th Ave ran into the N side of GG Park, just like they used to do at this park. I wonder if they still do that in SF.
    Our government has abdicated their responsibilities, thank you all for voting for more of the same.

    • @kimhesketh2016
      @kimhesketh2016 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is lost on you is that people do try to improve their situation. Once one becomes homeless society nails their feet to the floor while demanding they run then kicks them when they try. If one doesn't have an address one can't get a job.

    Interview with a homeless man now living on the BEACH showed camera man his lease that now has $2,300 for his apartment. CALIFORNIA they are NOT homeless, they are being SCREWED by landlords who are being TAXED and billed by government constantly. CALIFORNIA what are YOU going to do about it? A shed in someone's back yard renting for $1,050 is NOT the answer. FIGHT back CALIFORNIA, do you really think the Police would be against you? VOTE them out, DEMAND resignations. Are you 1860 slavery? Are you in CHAINS? Are you the California Asian community of 1890? DO SOMETHING! It is YOUR state.

    Always the same story. We HOPE we can house the homeless, but as long as we get back whatever they started living, we're happy. Like, people are horrible, vicious creatures. I don't think I can remember anything nice ever being done for the homeless to help them. They're always being harassed, and they don't bother anyone if you'd just leave them under their overpasses.
