Man. Sony needs to come out with a small 35-40mm 1.8. 24 is cool for landscape and movies. Would be nice to have a decently fast and small travel lens (35 2.8 is to slow and I’d rather use the tamron 28-75) at a reasonable price.
exactly. 35mm f2 like the canon 35mm f2 is, great size, great light and IS. Would also like to see some good quality 24mm f2, since I love my sigma 16mm 1.4 on my aps-c. But f/1.4 on full frame is not necesarry and the lens to heavy
Even though I have little interest for a 35 f2 myself, sony is absolutely foolish not to bring one out. They'll be eaten alive by Canon and Nikon, those companies see low hanging fruit and they're all over it.

They created this border where on one side you have top quality GM lenses and on the other side you have cheap garbage. I mean look at Fuji. Everyone has something for him. All glasses are top quality, just depends on the size and light. Even for APS-C you have such a variety. 23mm 1,4, 23mm f2, 35mm f 1,4, f2, 56mm f/1,2, .. Sony Zeiss 50mm 1,4 is huge and super expensive. While on canon side you have 1,2, 1,4, 1,8. I’m sure canons 1,2 is much more sharp @1,4 than the Zeiss
There is a small flare that comes out from the stars when you zoom hella in and you can see it. With the way the new glass on the 24mm, they made it have a way more smoother surface.

Please compare this to the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 (in terms of sharpness & edge to edge). It's the same filter size 67mm as the Zeiss 25mm f/2 Batis but slightly heavier. It's $100 more but that's still cheap for what it is.
Definitely not a lens for me.. the 1.4 is tempting but I think the 16-35 GM paired with a 20 1.4 is a great combo. Only obvious disadvantage would be size and weight.
Great video! I am surprised that this came out at rather modest (compared to other GM lenses) $1400, which is only $100 more than the Batis for some extra light. I guess Canon and Nikon entering the FF mirrorless market is putting a bit of pressure on Sony to not make their lenses super expensive, win for the consumers! I think they need to come out with a 35mm f1.8 G series like the 85mm f1.8, the zeiss 35mm 2.8 is overpriced and not cutting it. Needs to be something native in between that and the zeiss 1.4

Is there any hope for a wide angle zoom lens lower than 2.8? I mean, Sigma did make an 18-35 1.8 for the A-mount. Gosh how much I wish that existed for the E-Mount. And is it too much to ask for 1000 dollar price? Because +2000 for the 16-35 2.8 G Master is a budget-killer. I shoot on a 6500 for now. Definitely going to Fullframe next year, so FE lenses would be an early investment you might say, but I'm not giving up my cropped sensor any time soon!
Sony should have done a wider proposition : 20mm for example. The Sigma Art 14mm f1.8 is great and I like it, but is too bulky and still has no competition... :/

Go for the Batis, I really enjoy mine. The 24mm will do well in extreme low light because of the extra stops but unless you're constantly shooting 12800+ ISO, the f/2 is good enough. Plus it has decent bokeh!
Hi can you make a comparison between this lens and the sigma 16mm 1.4 apsc lens. As the crop factor on a6xxx bodies equates to 24mm also with this sigma lens. Thanks
This may sound silly but I would like to see Sony finally start making Tilt-Shift lenses if they go any wider. For now I’m stuck with the Canon with Metabones option. They would kick much ass if they can find a way to make a TS autofocus as well.

It’s too close to 35mm and not wide enough to be a great ultra-wide. I’m still holding out for a 16mm (or lower) 1.4 GM non-bulbous lens. I’d settle for a f/1.8 ultra-wide GM (non-bulbous).
Yeah, I might honestly still just go with the Venus Laowa 15mm f/2 to fulfill my full-frame wide-angle hunder that I've had for a while, but I've been too addicted to the 1.4 aperture of my Sigma 35mm.
I did not consider the Sigma 14mm 1.8, but only because of its bulbous lens. As much as I would love a 14mm, I’m not sure it’s possible to get a fast prime wider than 16mm without a bulbous front. Being able to attach screw-in filters is important to me as I would frequently use such a lens on my Ronin-S gimbal.

Sony has excellent 28mm f2. I have it and love it. No need right now for a 35mm f2 IMHO.
