    It would be interesting to compare the new 24mm 1.4 with the 16-35mm 2.8 lens. Each by themselves are apparently great lenses but how does the 16-35 GM 2.8 compare optically at the corresponding 24 mm focal length setting? Not in all cases are prime lenses actually better than zoom lenses, especially when we're dealing with high quality lenses such as the GM series. Obviously the 1.4 has a shallower depth of field than 2.8 but what happens when you shoot both lenses at 2.8 or slower? Does the 24mm 1.4 have superior image quality when compared to the 16-35, shooting at 24 mm?

      I know exactly how you feel. It cost quite a bit of money but it is possible. I just purchased a sony a7iii after saving for many months. just put back 50 bucks a week if you can and youl'll have amassed so much money in no time. thats 200 a month. in 7 months youll have enough to get the lens . it takes time but it is doable my friend. I beleive in you!

    This would be SO awesome to have if you already have the Sony G master 85mm F1.4, also with the 11 blade aperture. It would match if you were using 2 cameras, one with this 24mm F1.4, and one with the 85mm F1.4.

    Wow! Finally! A Cheap GM.. when compared to other brands (except Sigma)... plus I love the circular bokeh balls with the GMs (plus lesser weight and better overall image quality.. something might be worth choosing over the Sigmal).
    Nice CG with the Sniff and Wind Tunnel Test.. :D

    That "square of coloured lights" flare looks hilarious. It's actually light hitting the sensor, reflected back at the lens back-element and then reflected back at the sensor and becoming a part of the image. Lots of reflection going on there. Does make sense that this would be more of an issue with such a short flange distance.
    Looks like a hell of a 24/1.4
    I'd pick this one regardless of the few funny issues.

    Great video as always Jared. This lens is a no brainer for me. I shot primarily with a Fuji 16mm f1.4 for late night handheld shots in the city, and I've really been missing that from my Sony. There isn't any good wide angles that are small enough to make me want to carry around for a day. Finally showing some mirrorless advantage here, instead of releasing huge glass.

    It's such a shame that the Sigma E-mount lenses are so massive, because they just have an adapter glued onto it.

    • @profosist
      @profosist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gotta remember they're a lens company. Makes more sense for them to make a lense and have it fit multiple mounts a specific lens for one brand.

    • @esvignettes7592
      @esvignettes7592 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s not actually the case. Plus, those massive lenses will be massive because most of them are faster lenses and they need those huge elements.

    • @dionamuh
      @dionamuh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sony E-mount version is way bigger (longer) than the Canon and Nikon mount versions. The picture shown in the video isn't the E-mount version! This is:

      Have to Agree with Jared here. The aperture ring is nice but it would be great if they had a lock as he suggested or a way to disable it in the menu system so that your aperture doesn't bump unexpectedly. Unfortunately this happens quiet often enough when I show some of the images to a model and she puts her hands on it...

And holy shit NO, this cameras feel like utter shit in hand. How did they still not fixed their ergos? The brick is more comfortable to hold than that camera. Somehow the metal and all the switchea, including the on/off feel very cheap. Definitely try to hold one before buying online.

      Percy Pan Interesting. I wonder how much of an effect does it have not being perfectly in focus (as I guess the lens focused on the bridge and at F1.4 there could even be some depth of field going on).
      Otherwise Sony wouldn’t be promoting as hard this good Saggital flare performance thing.
      (In my experience with the Rokinon 14mm F2.8 if the focus was not perfect the stars turn into everything but sharp points).

    So for landscapes do you think the G-Master 12-24mm f2.8 lens is better than the 24mm prime f1.4 ? Guys if you have an opinion, don't hesitate to help me out too ;)

      No.Get the 16-35/2.8 gmaster instead. Sharper and weather sealed.

    Hey Jared, do you still find yourself shooting your D850 over your a7 iii?

    • @froknowsphoto
      @froknowsphoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      steven uses the sony for run and gun and we use nikons in the studio.

      Jared Polin I have invested heavily in the FX format from Nikon and shoot a d750. I’d really love a higher res camera. I’m torn between mirrorless or the d850. Furthermore, I’d be really excited if Nikon updates the d750 with maybe a 30 mega sensor or something.

    So this is a review but when the Northrup’s did something similar with the Nikon mirrorless cameras that was just a first look and everyone gave them a hard time about it cause they didn’t have it long enough? Bit hypocritical.
    Jared don’t worry I’m just being an ass lol.
