- In this episode, I'm starting the rebuild. All parts have returned from powder coating and I begin to put the rear of the bike back together. Today, the swing arm with new bronze bushings.
Install of these was a little more complicated that I'd read online. Press/push fitting worked in the end with all thread rod, washers, nuts and impact wrench to hammer home. Bronze bushings went into the freezer first to shrink a little first. Then, when fitting the swinging arm to the bike I had to file off quite a bit of material from the shoulder of the bushings to stop binding. It fits with a little resistance i.e doesn't hit your toe when suspension is off!

Hello from Canada
Where did you find the bronze bushings ?
I am just getting to this stage on my 450 and have also found common motors useful
Do you have any advice moving forward In this project ?
Hi! Thanks so much for watching. The bronze bushings are fantastic. I bought some generic type from EBay which worked well. Just check that they’re oilite (I think that’s how it’s spelt!) oil impregnated bronze. There’s these from Charlie’s Place in the US too www.charlies-place.com/product-category/bronze-swing-arm-bushings/
Cheers

Given the fact that the main frame bushing will be retained by the through bolt in use, is it Kosher to use some sort of lubricant (e.g. silicone spray) when pressing the bushings in?
Hi. I suppose so. I’d be worried about slippage though. Freezing them to aid drifting them is useful.
