MD-11 Cockpit view.
Join us on this special opportunity in the flightdeck of the iconic McDonnall Douglas MD-11F.
Enjoy this beautiful sunset approach and landing at Miami Intl Airport (MIA/KMIA).
It is filmed from the cockpit of a Martinair Cargo MD11F.
The MD11 has played a big part in Dutch aviation, but is since July 2016 unfortunately part of history.
The video starts approaching Miami from the north-east over the Atlantic abeam ft. Lauderdale. The arrival took us west on a high left downwind to eventually be given radar vectors for the ILS runway 09.
Special thanks to the great crew!

the md-11 is such a beauty.
Ohh yes, she's the queen of beauty in the skies for me
Then why it's out of production ?
@@heklik Its because it is being replaced with more efficient planes, like 777 etc. MD-11 is aging at this point and cant compete with the newer planes that can carry more, while using less fuel, but it is still one of the most beautiful aircrafts ever made imo...
The most beautiful is Тu-154
@@heklikhmmmm? Maybe because of fuel consumption and costs? You think Saying that is gonna hurt the planes feelings?
Flying the MD-11 has become a bit of a specialty. All are now in cargo service, and with the known anomalies, especially during landing, it must be a carefully honed skill which pilots
take some pride in.
Just don't run out of elevator and keep speed up until ground effect. But then I only have 20 hours in the Alteon MD-11. But even the heavy DC-10-30's one needed to relax back pressure just as the flare finished and fly it right down to the numbers at Vref. Neither airplane liked crosswinds much in terms of ground effect.
What anomalies?
@@banjovic The plane was very susceptible to crosswinds and variety of other issues with the elevator
@@banjovic You fly in fast and it's a terrible aircraft to try and land
I put on my headphones and immediately thought I was in the cockpit. I had to pinch myself. That's how well put together the video is.

Camera person has done a fabulous job with this video! If you have any interest in flying and want to see close-ups of the various instrument displays - enough to get into the pilot's mind and understand with situational awareness, then watch this. Brilliant stuff!!
could fall to sleep to that sound, radio and all. love it.
7:07 geez what a bank!
That was a very clean landing. Seems like a great airplane. I’m also highly amused by the choice of voice annunciator by McDonnell Douglas. Boeing went with the chipper midlantic news caster, AirBus chose an indifferent Brit (that keeps calling me a retard)… MD picked the computer voice from Star Trek TOS.
I'm going to be sad when the freight haulers finally retire this wonderful plane.
The Tri-Jets were always .... cool.
The Trijets would be around for a loooong time

The MD-11 is actually a reasonably economical and very useful freighter for mst companies, so they're gonna retire them much much later.
I have never seen a runway so heavy with rubber like that...…...amazing!!!
If these kind of videos don't inspire you to fly either in flight sim or real life, you ain't passionate lol

I’m telling you, so amazing!
Well said! I feel the same! Life is so much better in the air.
so true. Could fire up the sim right away
I enjoyed it the md11a were powerful
Life is so much better in the air!
Got some great radio chatter going on there
I really like what you do, I'm a young budding pilot, and I hope to become a captain like you sometime.
That was a GREAT landing! So soft. I'm glad they showed the outside of the plane afterwards too!
Gotta love the MD-11 beautiful jet
Flew on a virtually empty DC-10 from SJU to LGA a thousand years ago. Believe it was Eastern Airlines. Stretched out at the very back of the plane across all five center seats… slept the entire way… best flight I’ve ever had incl Falcon trijet private and old United business class across the Pacific.
I was loadmaster on ALL Martinair. Cargo planes, from DC3 until 747-400 1968/2008
Very cool Victor! Any thoughts on the MD-11?
One hell of a job you had!
Just best time of my life!!!!
Gee, you must be a lucky man!
Damn, you got to check out all of the cool planes. Your one hell of a lucky guy.
Aww. The ol' trijets. :)
wonderful video!
I love this profession!
a hug from Brazil.
7:21 The way how they disconnected the autopilot.
The yoke
There’s a button on the yoke
Lol the alarm and after:autopilot 2500
The 3 people who downvoted the video can't even fly a KITE!
Nope, they are the Boeing engineers who didn't learned on how the proper overhead should look like ;-)

Coolest cockpit ever!
The definition of being cool under pressure is a jet pilot.
Hypnotic part of the job is to make it look easy
Unbelivable beautiful approach and landing... Great video! I like it a lot! Thanks for sharing :)
I LOVE MD11 😔
I miss my PMDG MD11. Maybe I gonna install FSX side-to-side with X-Plane..
I always loved flying with the MD11. Very nice and advanced aircraft..
2Fast4Mellow The PMDG MD-11 is my favorite payware aircraft. It's a shame the PMDG didn't support it past FSX.
Would love to buy your pmdg md 11 if you want to sell
Rotate MD11F for XP 11/12 payware today
I fly mostly DC-10 tankers or MD 11s on Infinite Flight simulator. Such a great plane to fly, responsive, massive amount of power, looks very cool with the 5 to 6 degree approach and 7-8 at flare. Fun to fly.
Wow I’m surprised the cockpit looks so modern considering this is such an old plane
I mean, it's not THAT old.
It's from the 90s.
Just like the A330/A340 and the 777
Yeah, it is just that Boeing killed off production because it was competing against the 777. Also, it was not popular because it did not reach fuel burn/performance targets, and ETOPS killed the tri/quadjet because the 777 and A330 could fly across the pacific with 2 engines, so why need 3 or 4?
and too be fair the screens have a pretty horrible refresh rate.
I like the moment where the coffee cup and water bottle fall off lol
the best aviation channel!!!
Wonderful and short landing!
wow the warning voice alarm scared the shit out of me. they could not of got a more sinister voice than that robot 😂
idk, I personally prefer it so say, the voice on the Airbus. That one is a bit full on. The robot lady in the MD-11 is less.. human, which to me makes focusing on the operation of the aircraft a bit more easier. Each to their own I guess!
Nie no..poprostu kosmos,w przyszlym życiu o ile takie będzie muszę zostać pilotem.😀😀😀😀👆👆👆👆👍👍👍👍👽👽👽
Beautiful glass cockpit. The plane's computer voice reminds me a lot of the computer voice of the "USS ENTERPRISE" on "Star Trek" (TOS) .....
Never thought the MD-11’s cockpit looked so modern.
An amazing video,a very very nice Channel,Thanks👍👌🙏✌️👌👍👍
11:38 that 737 almost had a tail strike
In real time not!!

What a soft landing !

The md 11 even when it's old it looks just like the newer planes
Cool
Great cockpit view video. Thank you.
now that is one very cool video!

Bye bye Martinair MD-11, you will be missed.
My father was the MD engineer in Frankfurt working with Martinair in the early 90's. I went to visit him and he took me for a tour of the shop and I watched the maintenance techs bleeding the brakes on one of the planes. Just like a car.
I mean, martinair is at the verge of dying sadly, only have 1 Boeing 747-400. That's it.
I wish boeing updated this aircrath and began with the production again. Trijet and back engines aircrath like md-80 are very elegant.
Nice.
Notice that Identifying runways is surprisingly difficult from the air.
My Private Pilot instructor and I once got lost about 2000 feet above and 2 miles east of our home field 6000 foot E-W runway.
Embarrassing? Yes. Typical? Yes!
Ai sim esses pilotos mereçem meus parabens e da galera aviaçao e coisa linda MD11 maquina

YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Love it!
Can't beat the autopilot disconnect warning
Excelentes videos.
As a pilot for 45 years, and having spent many years flying the MD-11, this landing was about a 7/10. I say this mostly because of the plane's pitch and orientation when he approached minimums - also the timing of the reverse thrust application was off. Still passing and an ok landing, but not perfect.
good one daddy

I wish I could've been a pilot, but I have a stutter and I wouldn't be able to communicate fast enough. Unless the other pilot would do the talking on every flight.
Oh man I wish I could have been a pilot too. I’m Dyslexic and have communication issues so I probably would not have made a good pilot but I seriously love anything aviation!!! I’m fricken amazed that we’ve come from the Wright brothers to today’s jumbo jets!! It’s amazing!!

I have one, I don’t let it stop me. Fun fact: you don’t really have to talk super fast, just not really slow. There are many ways to practice, and get it down, always believe man.
@@garageauto5275 I have a pause in my speech and sometimes I’m stuck no matter what I try to do

Nice job. Great CRM, folks.

Amazing!!
One of the most beautiful cockpits! But damn, it's noisy!
I would say that's more to do with the Mike on the Camera more than anything. If a modern Cockpit werer really that noisy, those two would have had to shout at each other rather than talk normally as they are clearly doing.
It is that noisy. That's why they have headsets and are using the intercom. And that is also one reason, why the MD-11 has been demoted to freight flights. I personally think, that the MD-11 was a good aircraft, that lacked some refinement. But you could say that to quite a lot of US products back in the 80's, early 90s ;)
Dunno what the deal is here, but the DC10 and MD11 are literally among the quietest cockpits I've ever been in.
crab453 Exactly.
crab453 then it's prob the mic they use for the footage. Noisy or not it's a sexy aircraft!
10:16 LOL THE WOMEN VOICE FOR THE GWPS CALLOUTS XDDD
that's McDonnell Douglas for you
Guys i think the MD-11 is a female plane lol
me encanta .
FELICIDADES!!!
my favorite airplane ever....
Mine too!

I have only flown on a DC-10 -40 with Northwest Airlines and it was a right down comfortable flight. The Series 40 has up rated engines for high and hot altitudes and did not even come out until after the early air disasters took place with American & Turkish Airlines. Both of those disasters could have been avoided if the maintenance department at American followed the proper or approved procedure in removing engines. The Turkish accident was from a less than ideal designed cargo hatch door system in which it was far from anything which could be considered fail safe. After the New Zealand accident in Antarctica, which was also human error, the DC-10 model, in general, was doomed. The MD-11 could not escape its earlier cousin's reputation and did not sell well. The Swiss Air fire took care of any hope the airliner being a sales success. I believe the MD-11 was better designed than the DC-10 and had a lot to offer. People were afraid of it so it found its niche in cargo. Now with more economical engines and more power, newer models of freighters will send the MD-11 to the graveyard before its time. I guess it does make a good freighter and can carry some heavy loads.
Problem was because of the way the mount failed when the engine detached it went up and over the wing, ripping out the hydraulics in the leading edge causing the slats on that side to retract. That's what caused the roll. If it had just dropped away it could have been handled.
Armando Silvier You might be thinking of the United flight 191 I believe, at ORD.
Armando Silvier Yes, the maintenance crew lifted the engine with a forklift, against procedure, and stressed the bolts. Such a preventable tragedy..
Sure everybody puts the blame on bad maintenance but admit it - the DC-10 was badly designed and suffered from a lack of redundancy and susceptibility to a single point of failure that was nothing less than criminally negligent.
No check valves to prevent fluid loss when all three hydraulic systems were severed. No pressure relief vents to prevent floor collapse when the inherently unsafe cargo door blows off mid-flight
Very cool

Need to lock the exposure on the camera so the view doesn't get blown out and turn white every time it pans down too far.
