I feel like everyone is forgetting about the inazuma craftable pole arm for him. If you have the extra materials it’s pretty good at high refines. It gets rid of his ER problems so you can run HP sands instead of ER. And at least you get a little bit of EM for when he does inevitably vape. I made my thoma a kinda of jack of all trades master of none. 22k hp 1700 attack with hp sand pyro goblet and crit hat. I just can’t stand seeing such small numbers from his Pryo attacks, and his shield is beefy enough it seems like.
are you talking abt kitain cross spear? it only generates 12 energy at max refine and considering the 15s cooldown of the skill, you can only get 12 energy back once every 15s (12s if you have him at C1). meanwhile his burst cd is 20s, costing 80 energy... if you have him at c4 then you get 39 energy particles in total once every 20s (or 17s). is that considered to be good, esp if you dont have other pyro members on the team? edit: wrong calc
I don't remotely see how that effect could be comparable to an ER substat weapon at R1(with refinement, sure, but I think your Polearm Billets can be better spent on Crescent Pike) and his vaping is still going to be nominal damage unless he's built for burst in which case a weapon designed to boost Skill damage isn't your best option.
the reason i only watch xlice's guide is because it is always unbiased and factual. He summed up the playstyle the way the character was meant to be. Thoma is not one of the broken 4* support char like xiangling, xq or bennett but the way he plays is really really fun. Keep up the good work mr xlice! I ran 2crimson 2 emblem for hybrid shield dps thoma and it still works too but the shield strength is not as strong. oh and a very great job again mr editor :) much appreciated
No one need mono element teams also using e.g. 4 pyro is a huge waste + why should you use a mono team if there is no buff for 4 times the same element you only need 2, you only need a mono team for a achivment and thats it

I love using him with Yoimiya with the Severed Fate set so I can turn her into a character who can hit multiple targets and do lots of damage! Makes her a lot more viable and this makes me super happy since I love her character so much c: (with Fischl as well for Overload)
Physical Thoma is honestly not that terrible, scaling is pretty decent (in term of numbers only lose out to Hu Tao, Xiao and Rosaria), so Physical Thoma is pretty decent.
Pulled 5 Thoma's on that banner in about 30 pulls iirc. Added him to the main squad with C4 so quickly and he looked cool. Been wanting to build him for a while now so I think I'll be looking for some artifacts for him with the strong box noblesse while slowly getting my Itto pieces. Thank you for these :)

QiQi is there for healing and resonance (and clam pops) Thoma has a high internal cooldown, so he's more likely to proc the melts I go HP, pyro damage, crit damage. He gets crit rate from cryo resonance as well. Thoma is super fun!
Just pulled Thoma c6 on the most recent Kazuha banner, and I'm so happy to learn he works well with him. I saved up for the past few months to try and get c2 Kazuha, (sadly got stuck at c1 due to a lost 50/50 and no early). I pulled Kazuha partly because he's just the coolest character I've seen in a long time, but also to buff my Yoimiya a bit! Learning that Yoimiya Xingqiu (a duo I never separate) Kazuha Thoma is a good team makes it even better!
I love these visuals for thresholds of damage/shield strength, they provide very valuable information by just using those values for reference. Please include more in the future if possible!
I use staff of Homa on my thoma. Still working on getting that 2nd HP artifact for him with good crit stats. Got him to 25k HP with homa and HP sands so still need to min max him some more. Rrally good at shielding my hutao and xiangling so hes been good for me 😎 Stats are 45 190 25k HP 150 ER. Not too bad
Dont bother building him as DPS, just use him as a shielder. He didnt even take 50% or Cryo Regisvine`s health and unless you farm for godlike artifacts and give him Staff of homa and focus all supports to buff him, he wont do any significant damage. Even in such a case, there are other characters that benefit more from such equipment.
Since I first saw a picture of the upcoming Inazuma characters I instantly fell in love with Thoma not knowing anything about him, his element or weapon etc. and after waiting for him all those months we finally got him and...I was so so sad that he ended up being just a shield bot, especially considering his amazing auto-attack animations... I still love him! He is definitely one of the characters with the best personality and great design and just chefs kiss
Damn, this really sums up my feelings here. I was so excited for Thoma but now that I have him he's just... not super amazing, and even though I am maxing him there's that gnawing feeling that I'll never use him in any abyss content because he simply isn't that strong compared to all my other characters. It really sucks :/
He’s definitely supposed to be a shield bot. I tried damage build but his burst and skill just doesn’t do damage for me, couldn’t really vaporize because of his icd, i tried melt with rosaria’s burst it can work but it’s inconsistent. I don’t think its really worth it to build him for damage. But i think its okay to be honest, he still finds a spot on my abyss Hu Tao team, he enable pyro swirl and gives more resistance to interruptions, and a pyro resonance too which is always nice so he definitely has his spot
That's literally the only team I've found that he works in. I pulled for C1 Hoot and ended up with 6 Thomas (damn you MhY for denying me C6) and immediately tried him with my characters that desperately miss Zhongli (damn you again MhY), like Ganyu, Ninguang, and Razor. His shield is consistent and strong, but his ICD makes it impossible to consistently melt or overload. Unless you want to forgo a healer (and Bennett's buffs), he can't really replace anyone...it kinda sucks. For now, he's like my C6 Sara. He goes with his one, dedicated partner (Hoot) and that's it.
What constellation are you at? I have C3 and really hope I get a C4 till the banner expires (so far used 180 wishes, got C0 Hu Tao and only C3 Thoma - initially I planned to wish for Staff of homa but I lost 50/50 to C0 Qiqi). Currently I have quite the problem with keeping up his energy for second rotation (he has Energy sands and 4pc Nobless, Xingqui has 4pc Emblem, Sucrose has 4pc VV, Hu Tao 9/7/7 has 4pc Shimenawa with Deathmatch 57/220 and around 90 EM and even though she can hit vape on Cryo Regisvine for 65k she is somehow weak in the Abyss).
Same for me. I like him a lot and his kit is pretty nice but his dmg multipliers and icd just made him a pure shield support which sucks since it limits his team comps for abyss to only pyro dps'. Other team comps have to sacrifice either dmg or another utility if you wanna fit thoma. I think as a 4 star character he is balanced but they made him very limited.
If your using Kirian cross pear with his energy refund constellation use his skill after his burst then auto twice for a much more efficient rotation maximizeing the passive

im glad i watched this most of the way through, cause i was about to ask a really dumb question about bolide and why you didnt recommend it. I personally really like how the pieces look, and find it amusing to look at, but now knowing to only works on the shield caster is a little saddening. it means that the time and resources i put into my already copium thoma just wasnt worth it, unless i put it on Xinyan to keep her shield alive for longer with a physical build. thought my thoma was gonna end up super well built at the end of the day. pain
Whenever I realize there isn't a sacrificial lance I always wonder why. But Mr. Xlice, I don't want to go back to the Noblisse domain. I've spent so much time there already. He seems worth it though. Diona's made me pretty dependent on shield-anti-flinch so It'll be nice to have shields for my other abyss team.
Another good weapon for shield bot Thoma to try is an R5 craftable Kitain Cross. Requires no weapon enhancement since the stats don’t matter, only the battery passive. It’s super underrated and it allowed me to forgo energy recharge sands.
Thoma gives Yanfei fire resonance and the shield is nice so she can cast without interruption. I've been using both while running around the overworld and it works well.

i build him physical too! and he can actually do good damage and im not a fan of one shot either bc i like to appreciate his animation
His att animation is actually pretty great for chopping trees, since it's short and pretty quick! I like how smooth the combo is :)

Best part is, you don’t even need to enhance the weapon. It does it’s job at lvl 1 and you won’t lose much at all.

I run him 4Noblesse ER/HP/Crit, with Favonius Lance. It works really well with 200ER, you can have pretty good burst uptime.

i use thoma with keqing cuz keqing activates explosions that can stun enemies and thoma affect pyro constantly

im glad i watched this most of the way through, cause i was about to ask a really dumb question about bolide and why you didnt recommend it. I personally really like how the pieces look, and find it amusing to look at, but now knowing to only works on the shield caster is a little saddening. it means that the time and resources i put into my already copium thoma just wasnt worth it, unless i put it on Xinyan to keep her shield alive for longer with a physical build. thought my thoma was gonna end up super well built at the end of the day.

He seems worth it though. Diona's made me pretty dependent on shield-anti-flinch so It'll be nice to have shields for my other abyss team.
Another good weapon for shield bot Thoma to try is an R5 craftable Kitain Cross. Requires no weapon enhancement since the stats don’t matter, only the battery passive. It’s super underrated and it allowed me to forgo energy recharge sands.
I run him with dragon’s bane because it matches lol
What about Yanfei dps? She would be great with Retracing Bolide set.
Thoma gives Yanfei fire resonance and the shield is nice so she can cast without interruption. I've been using both while running around the overworld and it works well.
You’re better off using Bennet honestly.

@@shadowandpain7855 The attack boost, healing, and energy are far more useful than a shield for Yanfei. You’re basically immortal inside a Bennet circle anyway.

I didn't know what or how to build him exactly so I ran 4p witch and skyward spine on him, very random but it was fine. Guess after seeing your guide, I might try HP build on him

Bro, i get the exact same DMG as the DMG-build but i use HP/HP/Crit Mainstats!! (exact same weapon and set but 24k HP)

They really love making shielders having clean and badass autos which people will rarely use. Time for physical thoma i guess.
