One of my proudest video game moments ever was beating Extreme Measures Hades the first time I ever fought him on 16 Heat. I was so proud to unveil that statue of Skelly, you have no idea.
I love how he punches the ground before the second revive, as if the push back the River Styx itself for a little longer. I couldn't believe this song could possibly become even more intense. I knew the battle would, but the fact that the song was even MORE insane, it was perfect. I imagine Darren Korb sitting there when he was done performing this song. His guitar just disintegrates in his hands, the amp is on fire in the corner, the walls in his room are just scorched, and in Zagreus' voice he just says ".....In the Name of Hades."
And so, Prince Zagreus bore witness to the Deathly Metallic bardsmanship of his Lord father, perishing before it's overwhelming undulations, such is expected from the God of the Dead.
Hypnos: Wow, front row, lucky you! Maybe he'll autograph your tunic if you ask nicely next time around. Zagreus: Ugh. No thanks, the Zagreus Original is worth way more, in my opinion. Besides, I've got more than enough junk with his name on it already. Hades: Most of them god-slaying armaments, boy. And, were it to ever come into my hands, your tunic could very well be filed as one, seeing as the only waters that could rid it of its stench would be those of the Phlegethon. Must i stress again the importance of *doing your laundry?* NARRATOR: _And yet, all too familiar with the punishing heat of the flame-river, young Zagreus came to know the searing pain of the harsh, yet truthful words of his Lord and Father._ Zagreus: ...Shut up.

yeah there is a phase 3 when you put extreme measure 4 on and the only way to unlock it is beat the normal story then buy it for 100 gems and you can put it in the dificulty stacion whaever you want
EM Hades is the specific boss fight that invariably makes me flail around screaming/laughing/crying no matter how well I'm doing. He puts fear into you.
it only just occured to me that stage three isn't even Hades' theme anymore. Its a musical reflection of the battle itself. The stern and cold 1st theme. Father is not at all pleased with your persistent disrespect towards him and his domain and is here to give you that one strong backhand that sends you crying home. But then his disdain turns into suprise as you manage to actually hurt him this time around. no longer pulling punches, father sees you as someone needing to be taken seriously in combat. With Hades now addled and confused by defeat, the son has made it clear countless times that he won't win against him if he continues to restrain himself. Father realizes his son is truly mighty. mighty enough that things like honor and sport can be tossed out the window. this is someone every bit your equal on the battlefield, and you're welcome to fight as dirty and as hard as you want because he has you on the back foot. the music has switched to a duel between two electric guitars, delivering their own absolutely devastating shreds while harmonizing their intensity in a mind blowing display of fire and blood. even during their solos you can hear the other guitar start up now and again as if trying to fight the current from sweeping them off their feet so they can last long enough to reply with their own riffs. it's not Hades's theme anymore. it's the fight's theme. I swear I'm not usually this pretentious just wow
I mean, the third phase theme is indeed a different song. Now if "the unseen ones" refers to the fact that no one witnessed that battle, or the fact that they're both worthy of summoning darkness and becoming invisible, I think it's up to our interpretation. Great read nonetheless, thanks for sharing (:

First tried it with the Twin Fists and I have only raised the Extreme Measures pact ONCE before. This was AMAZING to go in blind. I WAS NOT expecting the Cerberus summon, I had no idea he could heal himself, and it took me a second to realize what was happening Used up all of my death defiances, lost Skelly’s lucky tooth, and won with 45 HP on me As I’m typing this, I am STILL shaking after fighting the third phase. Actually incredible. Again: so glad I went in blind and I’m glad I had my friends cheering me on in VC :)
if you think it well, this is like a guitar solo battle between Zagreus and Hades. There are 3 guitars sounding in the backgroud. First guitar starting the third phase: Hades Second lead: Zagreus Harmony: Orfeus (?)
Phase 1: You're a greek hero attempting to battle your legendary father Phase 2: You're a normal man fighting a god and his army with a broken sword Phase 3: You're a semi-blind child trying to survive a moshpit in hell against folk monsters and Death himself, with a stick And the floor is lava

I wish I could experience the phase 3 thing for the first time, sadly I've seen it before I got to fight his phase 3. I have a feeling tho even tho I know it will come I'll still have a genuine fear rise from within my bones. Edit: forgot to say, I got to him...yeah that fight scared me shitless with all the new stuff he threw at me. Seeing it and playing it are two different layers of "oh shit"
I remember getting to Hades' full pacts of punishment fight for the first time. I was smiling and nodding to myself at the end of second phase thinking "okay, so he got some fancy extra moves and bosses, I beat him" but then, almost like in a movie when the protagonist realizes they haven't actually beaten the antagonist yet, I stopped smiling when he punched the ground and his health bar started going back up for the third time. I had to hurry back to my computer and I was YELLING and CUSSING the whole time. Shit was comical man. 😂
Earlier today I got to phase two for the first time after my second try. I didn't realize it was a multiphase boss, so I was still pretty stoked to get that far. And then I read the timestamps on this video.
I remember getting to hades, I dont remember much about the 3rd phase, other than Cerberus, but what I DO remember is the 4 palpitations I had during the fight. Never change, Hades, I'm not done farming adrenaline of you yet!
This boss battle has always been a favorite of mine, as I mainly use varatha the eternal spear, it always gave me the feeling of a deadly dance between father and son, spears spinning in tandem with one another, dashing about, and landing devastating blows. The second phase got me the first time I experienced it, but I got the hang of his attacks and to date, I haven't lost to him yet since he first time. Then I turned on extremer measures, and holy shit my love for this boss battle increased exponentially. The phase transitioning with those badass guitar riffs, as hades stood back up again. I'll admit I was terrified, but I managed to push through with my stubborn defiance. The exhilarating feeling this game gives you is unmatched.
8:50 "FINALLY! I beat Extreme Measures 4 Hades... now it's time to claim my Titan's Blood and--" 8:52 "...You're shitting me. There's a _THIRD_ PHASE?!"
I lost my shit when I got to his third phase for the first time. I had skelly's lucky tooth going into the last phase and lost it immediately from how scared I was.
The first time I ever got terrified at a game that wasn’t horror based. I wasn’t even fighting Hades at the third phase I was just surviving!)) Hades gave his son the almighty three shoe beating))

As someone who beat em 4 with excalibur and coming out with the almighty 1 hp...... Holy fucking shit. "Ha! I have a fuck off huge holy sword. What do you have !" "This guitar." "Wait what-KLANG"
The first thing I noticed with Extreme Measures Hades is that even in earlier phases, he changes his patterns. His spear hits start staggering -- one, then a second hit a second later, which more often than not catches me off guard and I don't dodge in time. I had to learn that timing quick, and it was harder than I thought.
8:40 zagreus: "I finally, FINALLY BEAT YOU!!" 8:50 Hades: "Hi finally, FINALLY BEAT YOU!! I'M DAD!!" Zagreus: "did...did you just-" Hades: "CUE THE GUITAR SOLOISTS!! IT'S TIME TO SPARE THE ROD, AND SPOIL THE CHILD!! TELL NONE OF WHAT YOU SAW HERE TODAY!! NONE ON OLYMPUS MUST EVER KNOW!!!"

One of my proudest video game moments ever was beating Extreme Measures Hades the first time I ever fought him on 16 Heat. I was so proud to unveil that statue of Skelly, you have no idea.
That moment when the final boss music is a remix of the main theme
The game is called Hades anyway
Talk about keeping it in the family...

He actually needed help from a couple of well-known Japanese shredders on this one!
I need a mockup of Zagerus and Hades in Strive's art style now.

Heavenly Hades buster
And so, Prince Zagreus bore witness to the Deathly Metallic bardsmanship of his Lord father, perishing before it's overwhelming undulations, such is expected from the God of the Dead.
Zagreus: I’ll admit, the music was good.
Must i stress again the importance of *doing your laundry?*
NARRATOR: _And yet, all too familiar with the punishing heat of the flame-river, young Zagreus came to know the searing pain of the harsh, yet truthful words of his Lord and Father._
Zagreus: ...Shut up.
Zagreus: Shut up, old man.

it only just occured to me that stage three isn't even Hades' theme anymore.
This was an amazing read
This has made me think differently about the song, and paints it in an even cooler light. Thank you!

Hades, the most metal of all Greek gods
He owns everything that naturally occurs underground. In-game, that’s represented with Gemstones. But metal definitely fits. So, technically...

Used up all of my death defiances, lost Skelly’s lucky tooth, and won with 45 HP on me
As I’m typing this, I am STILL shaking after fighting the third phase. Actually incredible.

Imagine phase 3 in a live concert 🤯
Some people only want to kill the main guitarrist...
i'm pretty sure that would summon Hades himself, what he'd do from there is beyond me though
Do you want to give the concert goers heart and anxiety attacks?
if you think it well, this is like a guitar solo battle between Zagreus and Hades.
There are 3 guitars sounding in the backgroud.
First guitar starting the third phase: Hades
Second lead: Zagreus
Harmony: Orfeus (?)
Orpheus: "Why the actual Hell am i here...?"
itd be more fitting if the unseen ones came immediately after god of the dead in the ost order
I think the unseen ones was made at a different time than God of the Dead, so therefore it doesn’t match the order the songs were made in really

My diagetic headcanon for third phase is that Eurydice, Orpheus, Hermes and Apollo are in the entryway to the styx playing up a storm
I've only been able to beat EM Hades once, at 11 heat with Zagreus's aspect of Stigyus. It's really tough but also super fun once you're super focused
Earlier today I got to phase two for the first time after my second try. I didn't realize it was a multiphase boss, so I was still pretty stoked to get that far.
And then I read the timestamps on this video.
Don't worry, the third phase isbobly when you already defeated Hades at least 10 times and then add with Extreme Measures 4
