Thanks for the upload lads. It's always an adventure watching this. Myself and my best friend have been following the project and are doing one of our own. It's a 1984 MR2, but but with a Celica engine in it, and a lot of work to make it an undercover performer. It is sadly just the RWD setup, as we aren't as skilled as you are. By the end of it, it'll simply look like it was restored with the old two tone paint job, however it'll will have a lot of horses, a wider track, more rubber on the road, and some of the panels swapped for carbon fiber and fiberglass to put it on a diet. His wife has also followed your build a little and said, watching you two is like watching him and I working on the MR2. The best part of our little project is that it's his car, his money, and I simply provide the labour. I also keep him alive by providing my opinions on his frankly questionable decisions on build safety. Good luck with the build and we'll look forward to the next episode. All the best

Well this sucks. I just burned through all the episodes of this build in one weekend. Now I'm sitting here waiting for the next episode like a crackhead looking for the next fix.
Brilliant episode yet again :D Seems like they're getting better every time. As said already here, patreon money well spent =) Beautiful job on the cables and fuel lines, they look so tidy!
what the hell is wrong with the 53 people who disliked ! it take a massive amount to impress me but these boys do big time ! thank you for spending time to take us along with you, this is by far my top youtube channel , keep up the amazing work fellas
Nice work, it is good to see there are still guys making parts from scratch like this. Been a welder / fabricator for almost 20 years and this is enjoyable to watch.
Thank you all so much for continuing to film this build series. I've been following y'all since the beginning and learn something every episode. You're work is easily the best of its kind on TH-cam. I hope you get more sponsors and as well more patreon contributors. I couldn't be happier to support your efforts and encourage anyone watching to do the same!
So.... I've just come across this awesome build "Project Binky" at episode 15 and love it hysterically. Now I'm binge watching all the episodes in reverse order essentially reverse engineering all your fabulous re-engineering. You guys at Bad Obsession Motorsport are extremely entertaining, funny, clever and by far one of the best car/fabrication youtube channels in the whole wide interwebs. I'm just surprised I never found this sooner, the upside is I don't have to wait too long to watch more episodes as I have plenty to catch up on. I'm mad keen to see this fine machine finished and you two awesome guys bangin' about behind the wheel...........Cheers!!! Time for a cuppa after this essay comment.
Guys, I'm a trade qualified welder AND a degree qualified mechanical engineer, and I'm in awe of your skills. My kids and I watch for every episode. Can't wait for you to get it on the road.
I'm impressed as anything with this project and series. The fabrication of the videos, writing, filming, editing, is nearly as impressive as the fabrication of the car.
Nice work guys. Thanks to all patrons who help to make this great show possible. Thanks Richard and Nick. I always wait anxiously for the next installment and can't wait to see her finished. Congrats with the award and keep it up.
i am re watching all of it ATM but i was here for the first episode its been years in the making and it almost over in about 2 more years. i never thought it would go on for this long when i first seen it. damn now i am thinking about it i was still in school when i started watching this holy crap time fly's.
Great job as always! I know that this isn't your intent with this video series, or if you even know about it, but there is a certain educational value within these videos. Because of you guys, I am trying my hand at sheet metal work making the brake rotor guards for my 1990 Eagle Talon, since buying new ones isn't easy enough. Actually, it is an attempt to future proof, so when I upgrade to bigger brakes, I can bolt on bigger ones and still have full rotor coverage instead of just cutting the old ones like most do. Always have to create some sort of problem for myself, not that you guys know anything about that ;-) Can't wait for the next one in the series!
Absolutely hilarious episode with so much great fabrication but why did Rich have to go polish up those beautiful braces, all the pretty colors gone! Very nice job on the plumbing, that looks so tedious, I would have no windows left from all the spanner throwing after just a couple of tries bending up those lines.
It all started with seeing the thumbnail for tig welding the mug and now I've gone through all of the binky series and I can't wait to see the next episode.
Watching MCM do a b16b Vtec swap into a J-spec mini with only a few modifications to the fire wall/bulkhead and a prebuilt subframe thing then watching this makes them seem like amateurs. Really good to see the different approaches to things. That "brace thingy" you made up was beautiful.
that b16b subframe was fabbed in the same way originally using a modified metro subframe, without it the conversion takes months. now the subframe kit factory has a custom jig to mass produce, saved them loads of time. the films were edited heavily too and had 4 or 5 guys working on it. having said that this mini is much much stronger, safer and has awd, roll cage, flip front and will pretty much be race spec when finished -that alone is next level. You could rally this car and not die. I get the feeling that's the plan.
The MCM mini is a completely different beast. They used readily available information and parts for a "common" swap. These guys on the other hand are building a complete one off with an oddball drivetrain that I don't think anyone has done. Also the obsessive over engineering is way more than what MCM is capable of. I say that not slighting the MCM fellas, but what project Binky will be is above and beyond what Marty and Moog are capable of creating. The only downfall of following this project is the 3 month or more wait time till the next installment.
kandin Robinson kinda but it's also one outfit doing a really good hobbyist job of things and these guys who are professionals and promoting their trade and business.
+Confused Raccoon As Chris said, MCM are amateurs, and they're primarily putting on a show for kids that have never turned a wrench in their life. Marty has above-average fabrication/mechanical skill, but the personality of a pinecone, and Moog is a moron who moonlights as a jester. Even their guest "experts" are pretty damn useless, of particular note being their Nissan "expert" Andrew, the muppet that used to be the laughing stock of Nissan forums. The only people on that show worth listening to are the industry professionals doing business as usual, and they say the same things you would be told were you to call for a quote and recommendations.
Well I've just sat here all day and watched every episode so far, and what a day and enjoyable experience it has been. Thank you for making my day special, and I look forward to all your future episodes, well done.
it makes so much more sense the second time. I watched this one first and then went back to watch them from the beginning in order. Now I'm watching this one again and it makes so much more sense. Big thanks guys.
the attention to detail you guys give is out of this world. some may not see and understand the time and thought that goes into making something where it's not supposed to be and making every little bracket welding grinding .I could go on and on but I'll stop here lol.you really have a work of art
I am currently in the process of doing so too. I have watched halfway today and will get up to speed tomorrow. Better than any of those TV car shows their producers are ruining. And oh does time fly when watching these episodes.
You guys are awesome! Besides being master fabricators/engineers/mechanics, you put humor and personality into your videos! I'm so tired of watching automotive videos where everyone is yelling at each other. Keep up the great productions!
As I sat back last night with a glass of wine and absorbed this episode, two thoughts occurred. Thought A was: You have such a posh bender with which to bend soft aluminium fuel lines. When you first pondered stainless steel it reminded me of the 3/8 stainless tubing I used on my car, bent entirely by hand around parts of my body as a die. Thought the second was: A clutch switch just in case? In case of, say, anti-lag?
You guys should be on the TV - fantastic engineering skills, superb attention to detail and all coupled with brilliant narration skills, a great ability to explain and a sense of humour. Brilliant video.
Can you imagine someone trying to pitch this to a TV company? "Well mostly it'll be two middle-aged guys doing a lot of welding and making silly jokes", no TV company would buy it because it has no mass market appeal. That's the beauty of TH-cam; people like Bad Obsession Motorsport, Mighty Car Mods etc can do whatever they want with total creative freedom and they don't have to justify anything to beancounters and men in suits.
Just watched this entire series. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Especially the wide variety of classic British comedy references. I really wish in depth documentaries like this appeared on documentary channels. Not that there is any space now that it's full of reality TV.
the most satisfying episode i have watched. crude attention to the detail is awesome. proves that with old school and industrial talent is superb. this mini is full with human touch which exceeds the way super cars are made. i will call it binky the super car.
This build series is the best thing i've ever followed here on youtube! it's just so satisfying to see it come together :D Been watching since the start of this build and it's been 3 years since that episode :O Time flies
I don't like car shows usually, but the cool, OCD style is utterly addictive!!! Love you guys, you make me LAUGH, while making a rediculously awesome mini!!!
I never want to end!! Always feel like I am visiting a mates garage (of exceptional mastery). Love your sense of humour, that thinly veils amazing talent. Every episode is such a wealth of images and narration. Thank you so much guys, for sharing this (these). I hope in the future you take on reproducing the JMCs' Red Dwarf stern to bow!
you know what? i discover your channel and i say:you're crazy !amazingiesta loco ! very professional job that's non bulshit's tuning like fast and furious ;)
I'm 16 minutes in and cannot for the life of me make myself stop watching to start at episode #1. This is freaking awesome! How have I not been watching this already???
I love your work: three years of pure joy every time an episode pops up. Some TV car shows could really get some inspiration from what you do: it's much much better than what they come up with sometimes.
As the exhaust runs so close to the sump would you need to wrap it in heat tape? Just curious. Oh, and love this series, highlight of my year when new episodes come out..... You Guys Rock!
Got to admit lads sometimes I've got no idea what you're talking about but I love your skills and how much work has gone into this. I can't remember how old I was when I first spotted this project. Excellent work! looking forward to seeing it actually moving
I've managed to binge watch the entire 15 episodes in the past couple of days, I'm genuinely excited to see the final form of what will be an amazing car.
There is a principle with cars called "shiny side up"; problem with this one will be the underside will look as good as the upper and no one will turn it over if it rolls, they be too busy saying "hey, look how they mounted that....".
After having watched how you gentleman have improved every aspect of the vehicle you've touched, i can't wait to see how much power you wring from the 3-sgte. I know you aren't going to leave it stock! Amazing video series, i've watched them all up until now and I can't wait until 2020 or so when it's finally time for the first start.
Well thanks guys. There i was flicking through the usual mindless violence, stupidity and pig ignorance that seems to abound in You Tube land when ia came across one of you videos. "Project Binky?" I says. " let's have a look." 2 days later .... I WANT MORE!!! Absolutely fabulous guys. Can't wait for the next instalment. Do have a question though. Why is this so old but playing in my list like new episodes daily lol. Love this build and you guys are great showmen and craftsmen
the attention to detail you guys give is out of this world. some may not see and understand the time and thought that goes into making something where it's not supposed to be and making every little bracket welding grinding .I could go on and on but I'll stop here lol.you really have a work of art
Great project, fun to follow. like your superdry humour. Can you make shop tour video? I would like to see your setup.
Just binge watched my way through from episode 1 over two days. Whats wrong with me?!
I am currently in the process of doing so too. I have watched halfway today and will get up to speed tomorrow. Better than any of those TV car shows their producers are ruining. And oh does time fly when watching these episodes.
Nishad Aras I re watched all of it today! XD
Dude, there is nothing wrong with you. It is simply top watching material.
me too!
Ok guys you had two months rest and we need another episode :-)
nearly feel guilty having you guys show us all your tricks... sensational tutorial guys has given me a whole new approach to auto fabrication
Thanks!
You guys are awesome! Besides being master fabricators/engineers/mechanics, you put humor and personality into your videos! I'm so tired of watching automotive videos where everyone is yelling at each other. Keep up the great productions!
Damn it took me a long time to get the brazilian bush joke.
NearCry91 I still don't get.. lol what's it mean?
I'm a fan of the Californian, personally.
I miss the Jafromobile videos. It's always a treat to see a new video.
Well, you could try searching "brazilian bush"
always makes my day seeing a Jafromobile video in my sub feed
As I sat back last night with a glass of wine and absorbed this episode, two thoughts occurred. Thought A was: You have such a posh bender with which to bend soft aluminium fuel lines. When you first pondered stainless steel it reminded me of the 3/8 stainless tubing I used on my car, bent entirely by hand around parts of my body as a die. Thought the second was: A clutch switch just in case? In case of, say, anti-lag?
+aaroncake Cannot confirm nor deny your wild speculation. For speculation it is. :-)
You're a real Loon Aaroncake...P.S. That's a Compliment... Get on with the Mazda with good witches! x
PPS.. I love ya!
I want to say thanks lads for a great set of videos. Can I be a honorary tea boy for the day? I have plenty of biscuits.
Just discovered the channel.
Thank you TH-cam!
This is the best produced channel I watch.
This old Tony is #2, but he's got a smaller budget.
You guys should be on the TV - fantastic engineering skills, superb attention to detail and all coupled with brilliant narration skills, a great ability to explain and a sense of humour. Brilliant video.
Andrew Weekes Thank you very much.
To TV programme makers, THIS is the sort of thing we want on TV, not shit like fucking wheeler dealers etc!
I mean this is sort of thing I want to see, if it were what majority wants then it would be running on the tv.
Sad but true. Network TV these days is for those with limited attention span.
Zero ninety & turboslag reminds me of Partridge maybe even some early Boosh before they were popular. Don't get popular Nik and Richard!
Dude i agree, however classic wheeler dealers is amazing!. Lets just all agree overhaulin and pimp my ride are shit lol
There's no RUSH lads, just keep up the good work. even iit takes you untill 2112 to finish.
I want to see went they fit the hover car motors to it in 2112
Vax Buster Get a life for christ sake.
I take it the "RUSH" refers to the production crew credited at the end!
Beautiful work and awesome workspace setup too! So much nicer than looking up under a hoist.
Came for the bodywork, engine mech, and old car nostalgia, stayed for the awesome comedy and commentary. Subbed!
Black Adder reference. Winning.
I'm not the only one then!
If you guys had been on the Noah's Ark's building crew the unicorn would have survived.
They did survive, they're just call Rhinos. lol
I love this channel so much i watch Episodes only on my birthday and christmas ✌
Those cross members will make some great dirt/grease holders.
"A tiny little bush. Makes sense. Made in Brazil..." Hahahaha
Gold.
then follow with californian, brazilian and the 70's
How could anyone dislike this?
someone who has been watching a 3 year project that should take 6 months
"should take 6 months", huh? And how many unique hybirds have YOU engineered, sir?
Fabricate a lot of Mini's with turbo Celica guts, have you? You're the expert?
Why are you still watching then? This clearly isn't your pack of biscuits.
They are rebuilding an entire car on their spare time. This isn't even their full time job.
Amazing editing. keep up the good work
+cdrbmw Thank you
What a fantastic little series. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Fantastic channel,glad i found it
I never want to end!!
The eye for detail and quality of build are second to none.
Soooo much work, and Soooo much Editing, really well done Boy's, loved it & Subbed..!
+Dan Solo Thank you
Please tell me binky 16 is soon, it's been 4 months!!!
Absolutely love it! You guys are amazing! =)
+mictho100 Thank you
it IS amazing work. i love every episode!
One of the best channels on TH-cam.
I love this series, very inspirational
buaan
BMWuitb 2002 bouwen Alpina set
you know what? i discover your channel and i say:you're crazy !amazingiesta loco ! very professional job that's non bulshit's tuning like fast and furious ;)
Thank you.
You Guys Rock!
anyone else smash the like before even watching a second?
another great episode! Thank you!
17:43, why not just use P-Clips. ha ha!
As a welder, I find this very fascinating. I hope you gentleman decide to do more vehicles.
P clips are cheap and nasty. But for a few pence more buy hydraulic pipe clamps. Exactly same as they made.
what does the lettering on the brace mean?
PTO - Please turn over. If you can see it when it's on the car, the car is the wrong way up ;)
Oh, ok. Thanks for clearing it up!
Had me guessing as well, very funny.
There is a principle with cars called "shiny side up"; problem with this one will be the underside will look as good as the upper and no one will turn it over if it rolls, they be too busy saying "hey, look how they mounted that....".
Hahaha that would be me...i also wouldn't want to see how f**cked the roof was.... :.o
Only three more months to go!
Nope... 4 months. Not quitethere yet.
5 Months and still nothing :-(
Seven, maybe. If there is a god.
eyyyy
13 months
After having watched how you gentleman have improved every aspect of the vehicle you've touched, i can't wait to see how much power you wring from the 3-sgte. I know you aren't going to leave it stock! Amazing video series, i've watched them all up until now and I can't wait until 2020 or so when it's finally time for the first start.
I started with the mug repair video. Now I've just finished watching all 15 episodes. Completely hooked, your work is incredible!
In episode 10 at the 2:21 min mark you can see a timing cover with Yamaha on it WTF?
Now to see about one of those mugs.
Thanks for watching! (Yamaha worked with Toyota to design the 3SGTE engine, mainly the head)
Cool. you live and learn. As i always say "Any day you don't learn something means you've not been paying attention!" Cheers.
