Sri Ramana Maharshi - JNANI

  • Documentary on the great Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi.
"JNANI" serves as an initiation into Advaita vedenta philosophies in the light of the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Rather than attempting to absorb all the content in a single sitting, encouragement is given to revisit the documentary over time, allowing the gradual assimilation of its substance. In doing so, deeper layers of understanding may be uncovered with each subsequent viewing.

Hi Seb Nic. Yes the music was specially composed for the film by the film director who is also a sound designer. He used an enormous amount of instruments in the opening to create a “Brahma drone”. Various Choirs of Mellotrons - Virus T1 maps. Indian sample instruments. Also recordings in the hall. He worked for almost 6 months to produce that single track. Few notice the amount of work and the quality in it. Thank you.

This documentary found me. Few days ago I heard "JNANI" during a meditation, I didn't bother looking it up. Then, this documentary came up in suggestions. In fact this comes the more I'm into the multiple realizations that truly everything is maya, mental projection of the eternal Self. The real peacefulness comes from the void - where paradoxically we realize the fullness of Being. Within this void everything becomes clear and peaceful - where nothing happens and all those phenomena that happen are realized being projections of one of the layers of Self.

from what i learned from many authentic books (Siddha Vedam, Vipassana, WHO am i, Iam That etc) and research into what is really 'getting aligned in true lineage path', ramana has no compromises !!
he doesnt not value experience of light, subtle nadis, astral travel, oval shaped big sphere around body, foretelling, having power over substances, alchemy, kundalini rise etc. ramana's teaching is direct path, a national high way to Self only to Self as complete Queiscence, impersonal Consciousness, impersonal presence rather than Self as states of consciousness, experience of crores of light power, sahasrara, lalitha tripoora sundhari in tanthric syllabus etc which may be the high altitude point of mind, uyir or subtlest conscious-energy (shakthi aspect) but still *not beyond the mind*. he doesnt see them or rank them as *spiritual progress* !!
ramana's way is beyond mind (conscious-energy). ramana's way is pure shivam ( 'pure Consciousness' ie the underlying truth of all possbl states of consciousness). according to him effortless shanthi, grounded silence is the begining and imperturbable, rippleless, deepest Shanthi, when not even an iota of 'i' exists is the ultimate.
ramana and other true jnanis doesnt allow shivam( 'pure Consciousness' ) in them to get converted into shakthi (mind or 'reflected consciousness' or say 'conscious-energy' ) from where appearance of biological body ('gross unconscious energy') emerge. only when someone comes to him, out of misery and if he puts a question to relieve himself , ramana allows the progression in him from 'pure Consciousness' to 'reflected consciousness' and finaly to 'gross unconscious energy'. this is why devotees of ramana who met him say that when they ask a question , ramana stares at them which seemed effortless, for long time and after 10min or sometimes even half an hour he comes to his body level and answers the question.
Shivam = 'pure Consciousness', beyond high and low or say fundamantal of high low = Self, Atman, Shanthi, Wisdom.
Shakthi or Vishnu = 'reflected consciousness', Intelligence, several states of consciousness from low to high = mind, Uyir, Prana
Brahma = 'gross unconscious energy' = biology, deham.
they are not gods or persons. they are concepts to explain the progression of life from Consciousness to biology in our moment to moment experience. therefore creation and destruction , back and forth happening on the screen of Consciousness. to become aware of this maya progression, the basic instruction for a disciple is to increase the "degree of concentration on a single thought" !!

First saw a vid about Ramana spring 2011. Ordered 2 books that summer. Read parts of them and would think about the stuff in them every now and then and one day October 2013 it all just hit me as I was stuck in traffic listen to Doom Metal (Electric Wizard)
Just had a random thought, then asked myself "to whom are these thoughts occuring?" Obviously, the answer was "to me" and once i answered, everything just got quiet and I understood everything and just started laughing at how the "enlightenment" I'd been searching for had been there the whole time. It's just easy to overlook because we are all so used to it.
It's like if we were all fish who could talk and I was trying to explain what water is to you. It's just so ubiquitous to us both that we'd overlook it. Assuming we have never jumped up into the air, we have nothing to compare water to.
That enlightenment experience was the exact same feeling I'd get while dancing on LSD back in the 90s when all thoughts would go away. The way I described it back then was being "hyper aware". But this time since I had read about Vedanta I could put words to it easier. And now I'm the years since I've gotten way more into Vedanta and the Upanishads and they all make perfect sense.
It still hard for me to get back to that state, intellectually, I know I and always that. But it's just hard for me to meditate. I've gotten there several times while running
Tldr: it only took me 2 years from seeing a vid of Ramana to realize the self. A very casual 2 years at that
