And before anyone asks about losing shinies forever, I have a way of getting the save file off the internal battery and keeping them forever with a cartridge called a Mega Memory. The save file you see on my SP is the same one since 2002 when I got Crystal. - เกม

I would be, too. Don't worry. I lost a shiny once. I found a Shiny Skorupi in Pokemon X. I got it to low health. Then, I got my Darkrai to put it to sleep. Worst mistake ever (thanks to his ability).

It sucks that you couldn't get it in a Great Ball... I mean, it's so easy to catch low-level Pokemon with even a Pokeball! Your luck was so bad! But still... you really should've prepared better...

Once upon a time, I received a copy of Pokemon FireRed. Instead of delivering Oaks Parcel like I should have, little me decided to go towards the left and explore. A wild green Mankey appeared, but I had nothing to catch it with, so had to run.
After watching chuggaaconroy's crystal lets play, I found out what a shiny was, and became upset about what had happened with my first ever color swapped monster.
I have yet to reclaim that mankey, and I've been paranoid every time I begin a new game ever since.
Blazekickn I call that SoulSilver syndrome Because that exact thing happened to my friend the first time he played through a pokemon game ever which was SoulSilver
And he didn't just find it before getting pokeballs
He found it on his fìrst wild encounter ever

A similar thing happened to me in gen 2 (i forget which version), i found a shiny Sentret on the way to get the mystery egg and cried XD
Not only a shiny reclaim,but a save file still remaining since 2002? Lucky >.>
It's probably a file which was backed up via a Mega Memory Card, then reloaded onto the cartridge once the battery was replaced.
Using a calculator, you had a 1/3 chance of catching that shiny caterpillar with a great ball
So that means there was a 1/243 chance of failing that shiny caterpie and you did

My first shiny was also in Crystal. It was a weedle in the Ilex Forest and I had no idea why it was green. I was able to catch it but I think I ended up overwriting that save at some point as I didn’t realize it was anything special. I think it may be time for me to go on this same quest...

My first ever shiny was a shiny farfetch'd! I knew what it was, and was really excited! This was on my soulsilver that I borrowed ftom my friend, so it's gone, but if I get that save file back, I will have my awesome pink farfetch'd!

The intro reminded me of the promos they used for Gen 9 with the introduction to some of the DLC Mons. Reclaiming the reclaim! Now you have to do a true Bug Catching Contest reclaim though! Great video, 10/10 ending!
Shiny Caterpie was my first shiny ever. The day X and Y came out, I was about to go into santilune forest for the first time, when I encountered a shiny Caterpie. I now have a shiny Butterfree! :)

Glad to see you got it back after two fails... i know the feeling of a long lost shiny, its painful mine was a Suicne in XD Battle SIMs, so at least you got a chance, I reclaimed it but not in thrid gen so I want to catch it there through Colosseum. Congrats on the reclaim man. Also I couldn't run away from a shiny in second gen, but those were cheated shinies, so maybe that was it.

Just as a warning, Mega Memory cards also have batteries, so back it up to a computer if possible, I've gotten the same error message you did before as well, did you happen to check the coni case during that session?

Just today I got a shiny caterpie in pokemon go. I was both happy and sad about it... I wanted a pidgey or rattata but nope, it was caterpie :')

I don't think I've ever seen that many "so close too's" and on a 200+ catch rate to boot.
I don't know if it is true but my experience with my first shiny went the same way. My first shiny was a graveler who was almost impossible to catch. Do shinies have a lower catch rate than other Pokemon?
Victoria Prince In all games Gen III and up I am sure it's the same, but I am honestly not sure for gen II. Definitely has felt like it is! I might look into that
Not sure if this is any different in the gen 2 games, but I would've tried to stall out caterpie with politoed's rain dance and mewtwo's recover, to see if you could get caterpie to take some recoil damage from struggle before throwing a ball. Great job on the metapod though :D
Jcool Never thought of that! I know that in gen 1, cpu pokemon (at least the elite 4) never run out of pp, but that may have changed in gen 2

Oddly enough, my first shiny was a Metapod in gold. When I found it, all I did was wonder why it was orange. I can't remember if I tried to catch it or not though. I was about 8 or so.
This Intro story is so great to me because I had a similair story too (when I was a child).
I was in the backseat of my Mum's car, fighting with my brother whilst playing pokemon Gold Version, and I came across a Shiny Zubat in the 'Ice Cave'!.
At the time I didn't make much of it, because I was in 'Ice Cave', I thought it was just some Icy Zubat, I was new to the game and very uneducated on the game so I didn't think it was a big deal, I had no Pokeballs on me, so I just fled the fight.
It was only until a year later when I discovered the rarity of these shinnies, that I regretted that moment.
Coincidently when I was older and in highschool, I was playing Pokemon Silver Version on an emulator, on my laptop, during school class.
And I randomly came across a Shiny Delibird, that was ALSO in the 'Ice Cave'.
I have good luck with that 'Ice Cave' I tell you.
Watching this video makes me want to relive these moments and go Shiny Hunting in the 'Ice Cave' again, maybe I might get my Zubat and Delibird back.
Hunter X Hunter is my favourite anime of all time, so I loved the HxH song you played in the backround during the intro.

I remember my very first Shiny Pokémon on Pokémon Silver and it was a Shiny Koffing at Burn Tower and I didn't even know that Shiny Pokémon exist when I was kid until now. During my teenage years I was trying out my brother's Pokémon Platinum and I was using the Pokeradar. Around 23 chains on a Mr. Mime and I found patch of grass that was sparkling twice and I was curious at that time so I went to that patch of grass and I was shocked and surprised to a Shiny Mr. Mime in front of me and I caught it. I was so excited and determined just to find more Shiny Pokémon. Now that I'm 23, I've been finding and catching Shiny Pokémon in my life now. Shiny Pokémon Rule! :)

Why do you have two different types of ultra balls? Is it a glitch?
Item cap in gen 1/2 is 99, so if you have 100 or more of an item it jumps the rest of them to another line.

Honestly probably no more than 2 on one file at the same time - I've restarted Gen 2 games so many times lol
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon okay thanks for clarifying that. I used to restart a bunch when I used GBC cartridges. Now I'm chasing that old feeling of my childhood on virtual console. Currently at 6000 RE's and was starting to get curious. I still have my old save file on the crystal cartridge with the shiny crobat. It's too bad theres no legitimate way to get it onto virtual console.. So here I am in slowpoke cave chasing the shiny dragon

This is why I bulk buy Pokeballs in every Pokémon game I play (excluding GO, since I have a lot of PokeStops in my area)
I got a full odds Butterfree in the Soul Silver bug catching contest after 2788 encounters.
The catch rates are crap in gen 2. I found a shiny zubat in my vc silver game and it was at level 8 and BROKE OUT OF 5 ULTRA BALLS AND AS I TRIED TO WEAKEN IT, I GOT A CRIT AND KILLED IT!!!!!!! >;C I call bs

and then the metapod was caught part im like OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG HE GOT ITTTT!:D and it evolves im like ahh yes he finally got it back! :D

this is so funny cause when i was a kid i had the same thing happen except i was way dummer. i ran into a shiny rattata im the first route and i thought i was weird but just a rattata so i ran away from it. at school the next day i told me friend and he told me OFF cause i passed up on a shiny so i went back to the same little patch of grass and tried to find it for days but never did
and then when virtual console gold and silver came out i was running back to get my togepi egg and i completely randomly got another shiny rattata!! i caught him and he became the star of my team i cant believe he waited for me all those years lol
People who shiny hunt without a plan are the worst. There is such a thing as you know.. False Swipe, Thunder wave, other Para or Sleep inducing moves, and actually having a lot of ultra balls
But did you know that in the second generation, for some programer's mistakes, the status effects weren't supposed to help you catch Pokémon, they all were reversed and do nothing to high the Pokémon's catch rate.

I'm not sure why you were so woefully underprepared the first time around. A cloned Master Ball will always do the trick. It's overkill for a Caterpie, but better than failing.

It would probably have to be a homebrew version of the VC game! They disabled save states in the official releases for them
