Poor little fella.....that audible WHACK at the end sounded like he hit a tin roof on the way down. Don't know how far the drop was but seems it's a considerable height. I know she does that to raise the chances of keeping the others alive....
Well, I counted. It was 2 seconds from the drop to the impact. Working the math, after one second, an object will have fallen a distance of 1/2 × 9.8 × 12 = 4.9 m. After two seconds it will have fallen 1/2 × 9.8 × 22 = 19.6 m... so it fell about 64 feet. So it fell a good ways and hit what sounded like a tin roof.
I now understand why this storklet chick was pecking it's siblings. Not because it was "attacking" them. but because it was trying to tell them to get up and lay on him/her to cover him/her from the mother... If u watch other stork videos like this, most time the other storklets will try and protect or cover the little one that the mom is targeting
I really wish people would stop pushing their misguided views on nature like this. In no way was she "tormenting" the chick. She jusy had trouble getting s good grip, and didn't want to lash out too hard immediately next to the others. By getting rid of the smallest one, she can focus more on the others, raising her chances of rearing strong young that are more likely to survive. She was "gentle"-ish about moving it away from the others. But once in the clear, she got a good grip and got it done. She wasnt tormenting it. She wasnt "bullying" it. She was doing her job. If anyone was being "tormented", the runt was tormenting its siblings.
Yea you’re wrong dude. Storks actively kill half their brood for the simple reason of not wanting to hunt. You see in most video of storks, they’re just standing around doing absolutely nothing. They are a maladaptive failed species.
I'm really curious about this too! The way it recoils after being hit in the neck/head? It also doesn't move later when the parent steps on it. The runt is really quite aggressive to it through the video.
It had almost been tossed a half-dozen times previously... neck almost broken by shaking, and head crushed in parent's beak -it was brain damaged at this point.
I read from another youtuber that records these that sometimes it's never about food shortage, these birds just have bad parenting and will kill either 1 or 2 sick or healthy babies.
@@kotaro07 You are 100% correct. I have seen on many, many occasions where a sick chick will get special treatment above the others, private feedings, brooding and just when the chick get back to good health....BAM! Poke to the head and you know the rest.

That's an automated camera i believe, the uploader just left it there and it is triggered by movement, besides, the uploader shouldn't really interfere anyways, let them do their thing and keep the food chain rolling
Not true with Storks. Many, many other birds and animals yes it may be true, but Storks are an entirely different story. It is mainly because the chick is not needed. The bloodline is what the white stork is concerned with, so only one chick is really needed unless that chick is a female then 2 chicks will survive unless the 2 oldest are both female then a third will be needed and so on and so on until a male chick hatches. Once a male chick has hatched, any chick younger than that male is not needed.

Storks are freaking brutal, man. Damn.
Damn I wanted to toss it out myself. Obnoxious.
I didnt realise birds had runts like other animals, the others were like twice the size of the baby that got yeeted.
It's not as much that as sometimes the eggs are laid days apart. So the earlier hatchlings start eating much earlier.
In the bird world growth is crazy fast. So an egg that hatches even days before will be much larger.

no, you should take a look to other videos that mother storks always do this to the smallest storklets, not for moving them

That is the popular belief but observation says otherwise. With White and Black Storks, it's a whole different world.
Not this fake reason, again.
Omg...the other ones tryna act like they sleep...so mommy wont throw them🤣
Well, to be fair, the one that got thrown was attacking the bigger one.
This guy was asking for it. Not only was he the smallest but he was pecking at the others.
So many immature comments. I hate how everyone always tries to be funny in youtube comments section.
