This same chick, named Maiiček ("Littlefinger") was dropped from the nest by the female (Betynka) on 12 June. It was buried with respect, by the good people who own the property on which this nest sits and who maintain this camera 24/7, next to a chick who was similarly removed from this same nest last year. Very difficult and sad to watch, but it is simply Nature's way to ensure survival of the other storklets.
After reading the Headline, it's hard to fathom the first Comment below. if it survived the removal-- to me that means it was put into a Wildlife sanctuary for raising to adulthood there. doesn't make sense to put it back into the Nest (as implied here) by the property owners only to be dropped again(On June 12th) by an adult out of the Nest --absolutely makes no sense.
you didnt got it right i guess. "it survied the removal" means just he was not thrown out of the nest in this video by the parents because he was a fighter and had alittle bit of luck. Nobobdy sad something about they but him back again.
If the parents believe they can provide for 4, but lay 5 eggs, then they'll still have 4 if one fails to hatch or passes in the first few days. If they lay only 4 eggs, but then lose one, they've raised only 3 when they could've raised 4..... reducing the overall stork population. As brutal as it seems from a human perspective, it actually makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint.
@@Sasser2015 I agree partly with you and dbsix, because I understand why they lay on 5 eggs, but if they notice that 4 of eggs fortunately hatched and all of these storks are alive then it would be much better to get rid of the 5th egg instead of alive little stork, especially that the 5th one shows up later than the others.
@@niedzielka2051 Yes, it'd be better for we humans watching..... and it'd certainly be better for the eliminated storklet. But I don't think it'd be better for the species, because new hatchlings die all the time from natural causes and other complications. Evolution doesn't care about any individual, only the species as a whole.
@@Sasser2015 That is right, and very often we have an opposite situation - stork gets rid of already his 5th child and then suddenly he looses another older one because of some illness or accident - if it could happen earlier then sometimes the 5th one could be alive.
@@niedzielka2051 Yep, eliminated one too early. Even though one can see the logic in their actions, doesn't make it any easier to observe, since this type of behavior goes against every instinct we have as people.

제일 약하고 작은 새끼를 골라서 둥지밖으로 버리니까 그 밖으로 던져진 새끼가 기어서 둥지안으로 들어오는거 보면 본능적으로 둥지밖으로 나가면 죽는다는 걸 아는거죠. 살고 싶은건 어느 생명이든지 같은거죠

Millions of years of evolution and yet it couldn't figure out if it laid less eggs in the first place it wouldn't have to kill half the nestlings??
