"In 2019 & almost six years after his passing, songwriter, singer, and widow Christine Lakeland-Cale and manager Mike Kappus delivered "Stay Around", a 15-track set of unreleased material drawn from the whole of Cale's career. These cuts were sitting in the vault, mixed, mastered, and finished. According to Lakeland, Cale always cut more songs than necessary, holding back tracks that didn't fit the particular album theme he was working on, or to have on hand in case he needed them later. Cale is as usual on vocals & guitar, with help from musicians - Bill Raffensperger, Bobby Emmons, Christine Lakeland-Cale, David Briggs, David Teegarden, James Cruce, Jim Keltner, Jim Karstein, Johnny Christopher, Kenny Buttrey, Larry Bell, Reggie Young, Rocky Frisco, Spooner Oldham, Tim Drummond, Tommy Cogbill & Walt Richmond."

The "Stay around" song might easily be the crown-jewel of JJ's mastery - a true master piece in the realm of ballads. It's like the air that one is breathing, coming naturally and easy, so that one can listen to it time and again and time and again...
Alot of people have tried, but no one can ever be J.J., it was a style of his own and people really figure it out. I remember I was attracted to his sound back in the early 60's. At that time "AM" radio station's in Virginia were already on that sound.
Gotta know that Tulsa sound and way of living .
He had rythmn like you wouldnt believe. He did his own guitar tuning and his own production.
Does'nt get cooler than that.
If you want to teach your kids guitar rythms buy them his double album. A treasure !. (I'm a lifelong fan. ). 👍💙🐎🤠🌵
I have all his albums except this. I recall the excitement every time I came to discover he'd released a new one. As he's my favourite musician. Never thought I would experience the excitement again; thank you Christine Lakeland-Cale! Now I have to find it to complete my collection.

JJC is one of the most inoffensive listens, ever. Basic three part chord progression, but always imaginative, never clichéd.

Would be cool if it was true, unfortunately it’s not. They played some together for sure but hardly best mates. JJ’s talent and taste just ellipses everything Neil has done for the past 40 years.

Just happened across this… thank you YT! And thanks to his widow for helping compile this. Been listening to JJ since circa 1977. This whole album is simply mesmerizing and wonderful…… all musicians and of course JJ himself. And the percussion and drum work on Maria! Hard to put any of this words. My heart and soul can, but I can’t!

This album is really good, i love it, this man goes back a long way with me. I remember after i finished shift work (11p) id go home and set up my tape deck in the bathroom put one of his tapes on, and sing along in a nice hot shower. Thanks guys❤❤
