I had forgotten how amazing this album is. Recently come out of hospital... I was chilling and wanted to listen to something to suit my mood and this album was it. Top quality I'm in bliss. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me too! 21 at the time., 73 now. Had a girl friend and a bike. Loved Steely Dan. Except, don't have that girl any more, and don't have my bike anymore. Don't miss the girl. Still miss my bike. Still love Steely Dan.
For some reason Steely Dan became unfashionable and the but of light jokes, one has only to sit down and listen to the vibe that is Steely Dan only to realize just how wonderful the music is. A friend of mine was showing me photos of his garage/man cave and up on the wall was a Steely Dan album cover proudly displayed , he had a statement to convey, one of laidback cool with a jazzy smoothness not found elsewhere. Peace
It is good stuff, but there was a lot of competition, and the high vibe turned away for more intense rock and roll. It's a thing....later you could dig it tho
I've ALWAYS been a big fan of the DAN: * Donald Fagan: N.O., Funk, Boogie Woogie, & Jazz & Rock Piano. * Walter Becker: Ax Man Extraordinaire. * From Beginning to End, Danny Diaz on Percussion. With the Best G.D. Session & Touring Concert Muscians in the Country. Precise & Exacting Studio development repeatable on Stage. JUST AMAZING !!! Cleveland Rock- n- Roll Hall of Fame, 2001. It was Blues, Funk, R & B, Soul, straight Rock, Pop & a smidge of Yacht Rock. Much was danceable. Lyrics very UNIQUE. YEAH, YOU COULD NOT GET A STRAIGHT READING ON THEM WITH RADAR. IN NO WAY SHOULD THAT GENRE DIVERSITY DETRACT FROM THEIR MOST EXCELLENT MUSICAL TALENT !!! ❤ 👍
At best tied with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Texas Flood. Not as “sophisticated” as The Dan to be sure, but I always had a fond ear for rough hewn rock in’ blues. Steely Dan was a bigger hit with the frat boys at college.
I was a schoolboy in 1972 in Moscow. Since that old times I love Steely Dan and have all vinyls they ever issued. One will never confuse their music with any other musicians.
1976 my 1st job 1st paycheck I ran out and bought steelys the royal scam and wore it out. This is one of the first songs that brought them fame, for good reason.
Was lucky enough to see Steely Dan one warm summer night at an out door theater at Jones Beach on long island. They were absolutely amazing and everyone sang along to every song
I was 12 yo in 72. Found them a few years later. They went to Bard College, Annandale NY , 5 minutes from my home town of Red Hook , Dutchess County. This got me through my teens and now at 66yo still brings such joy. Amazing music ,artists . My old school is about their college! 🌈🦅🙏🍉Al in Oregon 😎👍
@@Nebula37 I was in like 4th grade buying 45's by Elton John and Sonny & Cher. I had not even discovered the Beatles yet. Thankfully AJA came out when I was in high school and had my first ever girlfriend . We used to just sit in her living room and listen to Aja......... not a care in the world.
I certainly don't remember anything resembling unfashionable or the butt of light jokes. I can't remember a time ever since I heard the first single released from can't buy a thrill all those years ago when Steely Dan hasn't been considered to be the quintessential popular band of the 1970s and Beyond as yet unparalleled by anyone and unlikely they ever will be. Definitely created their very own genre of music that the world could never have been complete without their contribution.
My favorite part about liking Steely Dan these days is that the younger generation doesn't like Steely Dan these days. Oh well... more room for me to stretch out... watch this...
There will never again be a Time when you thought you could see ahead to a future that was oh so grand… unless you wake up one day and realize that you can’t help but be a fan…
I saw steely dan harvested casino lake tahoe 10 years and thay were spot on it was a miracle to catch these guys in concert at such a late date buitiful show.
In the Summer of 1973, having come down from and expedition to BC’s Coastal Ranges, I walked into a record shop in downtown Vancouver. This was playing. I walked out with the album under my arm and flew back to London. The Stuff of Dreams…..I smiled when I discovered the meaning of ‘Steely Dan’ and its origins🌞
Winter Wonder Land !!! I've skied it. Saw ELO, Chicago, Kim Carnes, & James Taylor at Pine Knob. F'ing "A", ELO !!! 😃 Had the "Privilege " to slide down The Hill when it rained during one concert. IT WAS COOL, we had a big blanket & big plastic tarp 😅
I brought this cassette with me when I went to Europe. Very well received. I lived In the canary Island ‘78- ‘85. Between that the cars and Van Halen I was rocking the bars. If I would’ve stayed, I’d be dead by now.😂👍🙏💕🎶
My dad had this on vinyl when I was growing up (North East England), he bought it in California when it came out, he spent his twenties there until my mother snapped him back to reality 😂 the cover always freaked me out as a kid. Steely Dan Rule ✊️
Steely Dan was my generation. I was 15 when this album came out. Dirty Work is still one of my favorite songs. In my 20s I had Deacon Blue in gold leaf on my truck tailgate 😊

Classics may fluctuate in current popularity , but , the really good stuff like this will never die.
I mowed lawns for this LP and Still have it 🎶🤘✌️

It is good stuff, but there was a lot of competition, and the high vibe turned away for more intense rock and roll. It's a thing....later you could dig it tho

Steely Dan - was incredible
Walter Becker &
Donald Fagen .

Steely Dan was a great band. Amazing sound, hipnotic. A huge groove. Melody like América, about the blues. Don't forget it !! 🎸🎧🫶💯
Born in the early 50's, and this mama loves all this music....from the 40's through the late 90's. The newer stuff is not music for my soul lol
👍👍
💯
I remember sitting in my brother's new 1983 Honda Prelude as a kid just to use the tape deck to play this album.

Dark Side wasn't bad either !
I seem to never get tired of Steely Dan

this music stands the test of time, it still sounds perfect, and rises above the usual 70s bands that sound dated today.
👍👍
Beatles Led Zeppelin Steely Dan and a couple more bands in my top five
Was lucky enough to see Steely Dan one warm summer night at an out door theater at Jones Beach on long island. They were absolutely amazing and everyone sang along to every song

Absolutely agree.
My nephew said they sound like porn music. I still haven't forgiven him.
My favorite part about liking Steely Dan these days is that the younger generation doesn't like Steely Dan these days. Oh well... more room for me to stretch out... watch this...
So we'll put! SD was a genre of their own. But they certainly honored their R & B and jazz influences.
Well, worded is an understatement
I absolutely love...i forget...how good it is.❤❤❤
There will never again be a Time when you thought you could see ahead to a future that was oh so grand… unless you wake up one day and realize that you can’t help but be a fan…

He reads a lot. That's how it works.
