One of my favorite Phoebe interviews! Conan was great and made the whole thing feel natural and conversational, without asking the usual boring questions. She was able to be herself. Loved that she showed her sweatpants!

The fact that Conan and her don't have to play to the reactions of a live studio audience also affects it, I think.

I really love her so much and I love how she brought a character who I loved to life and really made it worth watching. Daphne is a really special character considering the time period that she existed in. I love how confident she is in herself and how she doesn’t let people walk all over her and says what she means and assert herself as an equal to the men around her. I feel like Phoebe did a really good job portraying that
This was a great interview. It was nice to hear Phoebe’s perspective and Conan had a good range of questions.
Wish the other cast got asked deeper questions like these too, but we’re all stuck in this pandemic and light-hearted stuff is all we want, so that explains the other interviews.
My favorite thing about Phoebe is how she showed emotions even through her neck. I can’t really describe it😂 but next time you watch, just look at her neck. She does this interesting thing anytime she’s scared, curious or in the scenes that were to portray Daphne’s innocence in that time. Every single emotion, she nailed and for the first time, I saw that an actor could display emotions not just with her face. Her mom Violet, I think the real actress is Ruth? Yh she did the same too by communicating every emotion perfectly.

Someone actually devoted a video to Phoebe’s neck acting 😂. It’s true though, she plays this undercurrent of anxiety perfectly, even through the tension she carries in her neck and the clinching of her hands. There’s a lot going on just beneath the surface in her performance.

Streaming shows & movies in general barely get nominated for awards. Some award ceremonies like the Academy Awards are not a fan of streaming only content. SAG awards is a political affiliation more than anything. Netflix has had only had 6 Drama/Comedy/Limited series shows nominated for a Primetime Emmy since 2013, none have won. If season 2 is spectacular then I bet they get a Emmy nomination. At the very least for costumes.

@@samsamsam4790 That is a part of it but it's also Hollywood elitism from the studios. There even is a rule that a movie has to be showing in a public theater for a certain number of weeks before it can be eligible for awards. We are seeing it a lot now with Disney releasing a movie for a month before putting it on Disney+.
Being a TV show, Bridgerton is vying for Primetime Emmys. This COVID era is streaming services opportunity to get some awards under their studios since the major Hollywood studios are still having trouble shooting and completing production on new seasons and shows. From the look of the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards nominees and winners, it seems to be turning into a streaming platform dominated award show.
@@chrispan3033 well that was early covid time, i could understand the theater only nominations. They were protecting theaters from closing. But yeah for tv it was ridicilous how streaming were excluded. Not now tho lol. I haven't seen bridgerton so i couldn't judge her but she seemed to be overshadowed by her co star
@@samsamsam4790 Studios are still releasing movies in theaters for a month or so, then pulling them to put them on their streaming platform. Most recent for Disney is Turning Red. It makes sense from a studio perspective. Release it in theaters long enough to qualify for awards, then pull it so it's exclusively on your streaming platform. Those who missed it in theaters would have to already have a Disney+ subscription or purchase one. Disney gets 100% of those profits instead of having to share a percentage of ticket sales with theaters.
What I'm referencing with the short public release date is a rule the Academy has always had: "All eligible motion pictures must be for a theatrical qualifying run of at least seven consecutive days, during which period screenings must occur at least three times daily, with at least one screening beginning between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. daily".
Movies must be released for at least this time period in a LA theater which is why premieres are done at Grauman's Chinese Theater or El Capitan Theatre in LA.
The studios and theaters are two separate areas of film making. Studios are the production companies that make the movies. Theaters are the places that play a movie for the public, this stage is called Exhibition. Studios haven't owned theaters since 1948 when there was a court case on it. Streaming looks like a work around that hasn't been addressed yet since studios are still releasing movies in theaters. Studios don't have to care about keeping theaters open. Every major Hollywood studio now has a streaming platform which is proof enough that they are not protecting theaters.
For the Emmys and TV, we'll see in a few years if the awards swing back to more cable TV shows. I doubt it as streaming only platforms like Apple TV+, Amazon Prime, and Netflix all are not owned by a company that has a major film studio and are continuing to attract A-list actors for their shows/movies. I think this year will be an outlier though since streaming platforms dominated.
The sex in the series is beautiful and respectful. For the first time ever we see it from the female gaze. He even asks her if she wants him to stop. If ever there was a series to mediate sex for teens- this would be it.
There are some parts that are sensual but one scene resembled the r@Pe scene in the book series. But I do understand the beautiful enemies to lovers sensual relationship Daphne and the duke have.

@@itsflowerside no, besides the duke saying what did you do and later on saying he want to know if her action had the desired affect it’s not mentioned again “only” Simon planing to separate but later coming to daphne to tell her doesn’t know how he will be able to give her what she wants.
There was definitely too little actually communication after the scene.
@@franziskamaria5157 Just FWIW and spoiler alert for the two people who haven’t seen the whole season - much has been said about what the Daphne character does in that scene. But it’s really troubling that many of the people who clearly see what’s obviously wrong with her actions there seem to completely miss or discount how Simon’s actions violate consent at several points, from the meaningful “cannot” vs “will not” debate to honestly jerking her around in the first place in going from the flip-flop of pushing her away then following her outside and into the garden (despite her repeatedly asking him not to) then kissing her - initially without her consent - while knowing the dire consequences that could have for her in their hyper-misogynistic society and knowing that he has no intention of marrying her or having kids.
It’s nice that he asks for consent on their wedding night, but he’s already violated consent a couple of times to get to that point, essentially if unintentionally painting her into a corner where marrying him is her only real option by the messed up rules of the toxic society they live in.
The show’s great and the performances are great, but this is in the end Shondaland pointing a feminist gaze on a vibrantly reimagined Regency era partly to examine the misogyny of that era...and our own.
None of this is to excuse Daphne’s actions in that one scene, but to acknowledge the toxicity of Simon’s actions at several points and in several episodes leading up to it. To minimize his actions and focus only on hers misses an essential part of the show’s message. Both characters are guilty of acts of sexual deception and complicated violations of consent. The show’s entertaining, but what’s going on beneath the surface is far from simple.
Phoebe is such a great actress. I hope to see more of her in more movies.
