Overlanding North Carolina and Uhwarrie OHV | Badin Lake Campground Uhwarrie National Forest

- In this episode, we're in North Carolina! A slight change of plans due to weather led us to seek a dry camping spot in the Uhwarrie National Forest, which also gave us time to take on Dickey Bell Jeep Badge of Honor Trail. More on that in a separate episode. In this one, we set up our Patriot Campers X1-H in the Badin Campground next to Lake Badin. After dinner and some family time in the humid summer heat, we kicked the fan on high for a good night's sleep.
The nice thing about camping in Uhwarrie National Forest, is that we were near friends that decided to join us on a day of wheeling the offroad trails of the Badin Lake OHV Trail Complex, the only public OHV trail system in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. Our off road adventure was too big for just one episode, so look much more in our next episode of the series.

I live an hour from Uwharrie and it’s a great little get away. However I would not recommend going when it’s been raining, that red dirt is like ice cream it’s so slick.
We noticed that if the area was wet, it would be slick. Awesome that that area is basically in your back yard. Thanks for watching and have fun out there!

Thank you, much appreciated! Mrs. Six is did great. We’ve camped in the heat and humidity before… but it’s never the most pleasant experience. Luckily we made a few stops to stay with family to break up the trip with some A/C. :)

Dickey bell trail used to go up to the top of Hang glider hill, its been a few years since I've been up there, but we used to fly our gliders from the top
We’ve been told that a lot of trails have been closed over the years. That one doesn’t sound familiar.
We had to cary our hang gliders up around 150 yards by foot from the trail. They say horse riders still go up there, its an archeological site so no motorized vehicles. They call it hang glider hill . There' is a beautiful view, on top you can see the Uwharrie river and Narrow dam.
Next time you're in the area you'll have to let us know! This is our stomping ground, we can show you some lesser known trails.
