    A few weeks ago I reached out to Donn to see where I could get a certain color paint. He recommended I try MCW paint , I contacted Mike who very nice and helpful. Within a week I received my paint, and it was an excellent match.
    This will be my go to paint supplier from now on!

      I bought from MCW as far back as 1995... got out of the hobby, but recently just bought a Tamiya 1/20 F1 Ferrari... so glad to see you guys are still around. The BEST paint!!

    The dark gray primer before red paint.... this just happened to me. Paint looks smooth and good, but way too dark. You live and learn lol. Thanks for the tips Don

    My LHS is now stocking MCW paints and I must say they are amazing. Best replacement I've found yet for the Old Model Master paints. So good to see MCW finally becoming something you can buy locally now. Thanks Don for the videos!

    I need to know how to disassemble the Passche H airbrush pen, the needle and paint tip. I can't get the screw out of the tip.
    I really enjoy your videos.

      You have to remove the set screw on the ball first . Turn the needle counter clock wise while tightly holding the body sleeve that holds the bottle .

    Now in this episode did you shoot the MCW paint straight with no lacquer? And also, would you use MCW 's reducer or lacquer thinner?

    • @ScaleModelTechniques
      @ScaleModelTechniques  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I shot this color straight out of the bottle . When it needs to be reduced , you can either use Mike’s reducer or the lacquer thinner as I did on the Patreon Charger body .

    Seemed like a lot of passes to cover. Or was that just for the demo to show how well the paint can layer?

    • @ScaleModelTechniques
      @ScaleModelTechniques  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Juhasz No sir , light mist coats on everything that I shoot . A bit more time consuming , but it lends itself to a finer paint finish .....

    Curious... On those food dehydrators... Is there anything i should watch out for when trying to find one or anything in specific i should look for when looking for one to dry bodies with or what?... Im going to break down soon and get one of those 80-90 dollar portable spray booths to airbrush so i can start using my Paasche H single action
    Thanks

      +68gto400 Sean , check Bed Bath & Beyond for sales . I suggest a multi thermostat setting . I have mine set on 95 at all times & have not had one minutes worth of trouble . As for the spray booth , I suggest staying away from the plastic units and going with a metal one .

    I’ve seen some guys just go for it and paint the hell out of the body...you build it up it looks like. So I’m a bit confused ....what’s better just go for it or build it up? Does it depend on the paint your using? As soon as I figure out how to order your videos...I will... gotta talk to my techs...(kids daddy needs help) ...any advice would be much appreciated.. first time using an air brush..

    • @ScaleModelTechniques
      @ScaleModelTechniques  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Light mist coats are the only way to go . Spray and pray usually results in too heavy of a coat , loss of detail , paint pulling away from the doors and trunk , and a lack of overall color uniformity ......

    • @deannetzel1606
      @deannetzel1606 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScaleModelTechniques I guess everyone has their own technique, but I like the way you do it. And your absolutely right on too much paint at one time will cause loss off detail. Learned that from prior cars I’ve done! So spray and pray I will...thanks again!

    I have a question , my local hobby shop owner says he believes Testors might be getting out of the hobby paint business . He says they are phasing out a lot of products . Any insight on this ?

    • @ScaleModelTechniques
      @ScaleModelTechniques  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dennis Hudson Just had a discussion with one of my local shop owners . It seems that PPG paints now owns Testors and they are in the process of reorganizing throughout . They are in it for the long haul and plan on bringing back more discontinued paint lines and expanding on others for the hobby . Only time will tell ....

    • @toddzehr203
      @toddzehr203 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A late response but I spoke with a representative from Testors yesterday and they are only removing some paints that aren't very popular in the military line and RR colors. The vast majority of colors are not being phased out whether they are metallics or military, gloss or flat. Also, they are not phasing out the enamel paint line as so many on the forums state. This coincides with a previous statement Don made where people hear a rumor/assumption and pass it on as a fact repeatedly until everyone believes it. Testors will be around forever I bet. That info by the way came from a woman who has been a representative at Testors for 29 yrs.

    Hi...
    Im doing my 1st model it will be primed with Duplicolor with same paint rattle can...just wet sanded with 1000 wet...why did you do so many sanding grit steps 1000 to 12000? I just did my 1st wet sanding took me a while to get the mold lines & shine off.
    Thanks

    • @ScaleModelTechniques
      @ScaleModelTechniques  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By taking the bare plastic all the way up to 12000 , you are providing an ultra smooth surface for your paint to lay down on . The smoother the surface to be painted , the smoother the paint finish will be ......
