Protip: Never, ever ally with Swadia. I ran three games in a row just to test and without interference, Swadia was wiped out within the first four months of the game. Vaegirs took Dhirim and Uxhal and Nords took Suno and Praven. King Harlaus the Fat of Swadia kept throwing feasts in fucking Rindyar Castle while his capital city was under siege.
Yeah, with the player one their side, any faction can conquer Calradia. I guess I just noticed this because I like to play female characters for the added challenge, which extends the early game quite significantly, allowing time for utter chaos to reign on the map.
Weirdly Swadia seem to conquer the nords straight away in the games i've played to the point I joined them just so I could get the renown from helping them, haven't once seen Swadia be wiped out in any of my games. Though King Harlaus does throw feasts like no tomorrow the fat bastard.
Actually the Sarranids are incredibly good. The reason is because they train very quickly, they are cheaper than most others, and the Sarranid Mamlukes are on par with some of the best units in the game.

Rhodoks are probably the hardest faction to conquer because their combination of crossbowmen and polearm-wielding infantry is perfect for defending castles and their mountainous land
Ps, it is also good to hav a good relation with the kings powerful friends that own major fiefs, so they can put in the good word for you too. Giving a higher chance of getting fiefs yourself
They aren't silly, those names at funky and we all pronounce them differently. Maybe your the one pronouncing them weird, or me, or maybe him, we don't really know.
"Shapeshift or whatever" - made me laugh. I think it's a lot more fun if he pronounces those words his own way, especially the names of companions. Those names are weird anyway, so I enjoy hearing everyone's own funny versions hehe.
ProTipe: to increase the richness of your villages sell them your stuff and buy it back. It gets the village money ,but you do need a lot of money to do this

sometimes you may lose your entire army and it seems you will never recover or it will take a long time it really wont. it isn't too hard to train an army but I have quit many times because I lose my entire army but if you mess up at the start it is recoverable
yep lost my first army after getting our ass handed to us by sea raiders. even lost 2 companions, only found 1 of them though. After that my second and current army has been murdering shit.
Usually my whole army is made up of usually 70 swadian knights at about 150 days. Great army that destroys everyone, but the faction (nobles) and their armies to me in the swadian kingdom are super squishy, and the troops are fairly expensive (2k deners a week). Usually after a while, even if I do not attack the swadian kingdom, the swadians just get demolished without my help by either the rhodoks or the nords. Idk, I usually have trouble with moral during end game because I usually take the swadian kingdom first because easy castles... anyways, the 2 largest and most difficult kingdoms that destroy my army are the khergit and the Rhodoks because of their lances and polearms, but everything else in the game is easy to destroy, even castles and towns with just an army of 75 knights. I just usually go with nords because they can war with most of the factions at the same time while destroying them, but once you get to the khergit and (especially) the Rhodoks it is hard to defeat even armies of 50 without taking somewhat major losses.
PositiveManiac that's why I ally with them. I become friends with almost all the lords then once I'm high enough I start a revolt do a few battles then let the country tear itself apart. No matter who wins the forts will bearly have any defenders due to all the fighting
Its definitely personal preference and I love the rhodoks. Their army and terrian speak to my soul. If only they had calvary, but thats why i hit swadia first after conquering rhodoks.
I know this is late but if you do get an army of Swadian Knights they are gonna ruin you so if you get broke just go to The Vaigers coastline and spam kill sea raiders just use tactics when u get 2 giant sea raider groups and I mean big like 49
If u join swadia and upgrade almost all of ur army to swadian knight u will win almost every clash/land battle but u will lose almost everytime in sige.

Vaegirs are life. 1) Their cities are all in a square rather than a line (makes travelling a lot easier). 2) Ironworks in Curaw and Dyeworks in Rivacheg won't be sequestered, because you won't be in war with them (cuz you're one of them of course). BUUUUTTTT I prefer Rhodoks troops. :(

I typically join the Nords because they sport some beastly infantry and you can quickly start taking over large armies if you keep your troops close. So what usually happens is that the Nords(with your help of course) push the Veigers back till they are left only with Rivacheg while the Rodox rape Swadia. Then the two victorious factions start fighting and because of their superior infantry(and the help of yous truly) the Nords are able to get the Swadian plain. Up till this point you should have good relations with a bunch of the lords through helping them in battles and with your king(talking with him every time after you mop the floor with some defenseless lore really helps), probably one or two towns or at least a few castles and the starting village(being a marshal with a bit of luck). From there you just revolt against Ragnar when he doesn't let you have another fief quickly make your NPCs lords and capture as much of the empire you've built up to this point before the lords realise what's going on. Form there on it's just a cleaning up work.
I tend to be mercenaries first, raiding town, then build economic all over the faction I want to join, The vaegir dyework are amazing. Rivacheg gives me 1200 a week, You also have mercenaries payout. and all of those economic. After I have around 3/4 economy building setup, I tend to actually join after. to get a village for more wages. and well, then take over castle for more economy.
My army consists out of Nord Veterans, Elite Knights, and Huscarls. In the field, no one has a chance against me but against Vaegir archers and Rhodok Crossbows in Villages and Castles.. I have no chance...
I don't really agree with you on picking a defensible faction, unless you want to stick with it for the whole game. You shouldn't be worrying about defending your faction at this stage of the game; you shouldn't care whether your faction is successful or not. You should pick a faction that can get you into a lot of fights so you can win glory and loot.
I joined rhodoks and got durigsem which is right in between the mountains just north of dunmar. So far I havent had any issues defending it. I only have to worry about mountain bandits attacking it.
the way my current games ran is i was a merc for the rhodoks for a month left khan wantd me to be a vasaal did that for about three ish months killed the sand ppl i didnt help at all just raided their town for moneys the whole time and then left them went back to being a merc for rhodoks

Generally, it's not exactly recommended. Let's say you are a vassal for swadia, and you have Nordic and swadian troops. You start raiding nord towns, your men will start to desert you
Hellp Beau!!! I have a problem. I play my first campaign with Nords. Got pretty far. Swadia and Vaegyrs are almost gone. I am a marshall right now. Have about 100 men army. My problem is that whenever i take city or castle king never gives it to me. And i am only in Nord faction to actualy do something. Is that a bug or can i do something to make king like me more and give me stuff? Thinking about starting my own kingdom if he does not give me something in return. Tnx.
So here's a Dumb/noobish question... at what relationship lvl with the king does he start giving you you just dues? Cause I upped him to like 15 and he was giving everything I took away to random crappy lords
typically you'd wait an in game year until you're one of the longest lords who've been with that faction and up to lvl 30 or 45 with shit tons of renown.I got 5 major cities and about twelve castles and villages just by doing that
another thing to note. Rhoduk spearmen are totally useless against heavy calvary. In open battle. a line of nords will hold up better against everything. Just hold the line and squish them together. nothing can penetrate it. Horse archers will be a annoying. But with that many shields. That big. That's all they will be.

Why not be a mercenary for the faction a little while first? The first fief you get is shit anyway, and you can get quite a bit of income from being a mercenary, which you lose when you turn into a vassal.
I had one game where swadia only had praven left because while harlaus and his merry band of alcoholics and feasters were feasting, the rhodoks and nords has free range on us (I was a swadian vassal) and we held at praven so long that we exhausted both factoions and as we went to conquer our lands, the khergits and sarranids came and fucked us in the ass. (harlaus was a dumbass and declared war on every faction)
+Vault Gooby I find the rhodoks are very peaceful but when they go to war they decimate their opponents. Rhodoks are one of the best factions since they are beastly at defending in sieges and their infantry is the second best in the game from my testing next to the nords.

+Haxorx yeah rhodoks are pretty good. the only prob is that the spearmen have no shields so its tough to attack castles who will rain arrows upon you. but yeah, i agree the nords has to be the fighters in the game

Defending the Sarranides are fairly easy actually because they only have 3 entrance to the main land. Others are blocked by mountains.

I like how well rounded the vaegirs are. But my favorite faction is probably swadians because their knights are very chunky.

It depends on your renown, and if your nobility or not.

the way my current games ran is i was a merc for the rhodoks for a month left khan wantd me to be a vasaal did that for about three ish months killed the sand ppl i didnt help at all just raided their town for moneys the whole time and then left them went back to being a merc for rhodoks

Please help I know this is a simple question but what button do I press so that loot automatically goes from the defeated enemy's inventory in to my inventory because all the picking it up and dragging it is driving me crazy.

in my game the swedians are pretty much dead. the rhodoks and the nords have all there land and they have no city anymore and just a few castels what do i have to do now?

I used to side with the rhodoks because of the terrain and the troops until i got bored of them doing crusades on the sarranid sultanate every game.
I chose nords becouse I had productive enterprises in rodocks and in nords as well

Generally, it's not exactly recommended. Let's say you are a vassal for swadia, and you have Nordic and swadian troops. You start raiding nord towns, your men will start to desert you
so pussies will be always pussies.
I raised a town with troops that I recruited there an hour earlier, and nothing bad happened

Hellp Beau!!! I have a problem. I play my first campaign with Nords. Got pretty far. Swadia and Vaegyrs are almost gone. I am a marshall right now. Have about 100 men army. My problem is that whenever i take city or castle king never gives it to me. And i am only in Nord faction to actualy do something. Is that a bug or can i do something to make king like me more and give me stuff? Thinking about starting my own kingdom if he does not give me something in return. Tnx.
Have to have high enough relations and honour with him. If he keeps denying it make your own kingdom and go from there.
I was a vassal for the nords and they decided the literally take over swadia to the point of swadia being left with 3 castles...

So here's a Dumb/noobish question... at what relationship lvl with the king does he start giving you you just dues? Cause I upped him to like 15 and he was giving everything I took away to random crappy lords
typically you'd wait an in game year until you're one of the longest lords who've been with that faction and up to lvl 30 or 45 with shit tons of renown.I got 5 major cities and about twelve castles and villages just by doing that

another thing to note. Rhoduk spearmen are totally useless against heavy calvary. In open battle. a line of nords will hold up better against everything. Just hold the line and squish them together. nothing can penetrate it. Horse archers will be a annoying. But with that many shields. That big. That's all they will be.
+KyleBurnsMusic I haven't played the game much but I joined the Rhoduks and we wiped the Swadia faction off the map they own 1 castle and 1 village so ya I disagree with them being useless against heavy cavalryNords though they kick my ass every time without fail

Why not be a mercenary for the faction a little while first? The first fief you get is shit anyway, and you can get quite a bit of income from being a mercenary, which you lose when you turn into a vassal.

Well in my game the Nords are kicking everyone's ass right now. Swadia is like half its size right now =P
I had one game where swadia only had praven left because while harlaus and his merry band of alcoholics and feasters were feasting, the rhodoks and nords has free range on us (I was a swadian vassal) and we held at praven so long that we exhausted both factoions and as we went to conquer our lands, the khergits and sarranids came and fucked us in the ass. (harlaus was a dumbass and declared war on every faction)

+Vault Gooby I find the rhodoks are very peaceful but when they go to war they decimate their opponents. Rhodoks are one of the best factions since they are beastly at defending in sieges and their infantry is the second best in the game from my testing next to the nords.

+Haxorx yeah rhodoks are pretty good. the only prob is that the spearmen have no shields so its tough to attack castles who will rain arrows upon you. but yeah, i agree the nords has to be the fighters in the game
Noob Move: go into battle with a lord without considering battle order. So.....if the order of your troops in your party screen is the order they enter the battle in, Whats an ideal order in your opinion? Troops then companions ?
I put companions at the top since they don't die and eventually get really strong. They're especially good for attacking bandit lairs.
Why does your map look so different whan mine. Did the dev's update the map at some point in the last 5 year's?
