Why I'll Never Sell My Fujifilm X-Pro2.

  • The X-Pro2, released in 2016, is a behemoth of a camera even by 2021 standards. Putting you hands on it feels like a piece of history with some semblance of this future as well.
    It's light, tactical can handle anything you throw and like its Leica big brother, gets better with age. With the XT-4 and 100V on the market, this beast still holds it weight in gold, silver, and bronze.
    If you find on Ebay, pick one up or two if you can.

    I bought my X-Pro2 shortly after it was released and after experimenting with a used X-Pro1 and the 23mm f1.4. Well, the X-Pro1 was traded in long ago, but combination of the X-Pro2 and the 23mm lives on. And I've said the same thing to my wife and others: the X-Pro2 will be the very last camera out of all the cameras I have to be sold! I've been toying with the idea of trying the X-Pro3, but I'm having a tough time justifying how much advantage the X-Pro3 will actually give. Nice little review there.

      Same here I like the Xpro3 but at the moment don’t see a need to upgrade for my work. I went the same route as you going from the xpro1 to the 2. And been stuck ever since

    The X-Pro 2 has a special place in my heart, I started taking photography as a serious hobby when I got into Uni and got my first student overdraft account (dumb, I know) and I bought a cheap X-T100 with a kit lens, little did I know how far that little camera would come however as the years went by (3 to be exact) I ended up wanting alot more control, that wish was granted with the X-Pro 2 which I got used off amazon for a super good price (body alone).
    The camera is visually appealing, creates some stunning images in just JPEG alone, the raws are super push able and it's just a complete joy to use

    Thanks for making this. I just ordered an X-Pro2 off eBay and it should be here by the end of the week. Currently shooting with an X-T10, so it'll be good to be able to switch between the two.

    I so get you! I had an xpro1 with 35 ƒ1.4 when it was released for 4/5 years, loved every second of it, sold everything almost 7 years ago. Now I'm getting back in, I saw the xpro3, and didn't even think (that's not true, I wrestled a lot on this) but now I'm impatiently waiting for it :) such a cool camera and as you said, it's my Leica Mgetalife.

    I got the XPro II Graphite edition when it came out. It's a forever camera.
    Some weird quirks but used in it's most direct capacity, a solid performer.
    Probably the best bang for the buck going right now.

    I bought my X-Pro2 when the X-Pro3 was announced. I saw how the series was evolving and decided to get a new-in-the-box Pro2 while I still could.
    No regrets. I have several X-T class bodies, but the X-Pro2 get a lot of use because of its size and versatility. The Fujicrons are perfect on this body, making a good weather resistant package for real world shooting.
    Enjoyed your presentation here.

      @jrthewitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel the exact same way. I haven't had the opportunity to grab a fujicron lens just yet but I hope to do so soon. The weather resistance is a great selling point for me as well since I mostly do street photography. And glad you enjoyed the video

    I worry about replacing my X-Pro2 if it breaks. Don't want anything else. Still have my X-E1 from 2012 as a backup, still using my 2012 35mm f/1.4 most of all, long may they continue.

      Same here it'll be a sad day when my X-Pro2 gives up. But then I'll just find a way to get another one lol. And people tell me they love the Fuji lens. Haven't had the chance to use them yet but I've heard all good things.

    My English is not very well,but I can tell you:The XPro3 adds HDR and a new film mode over the XPro2, and the processor and focus have been upgraded. But that is not worth the extra cost to upgrade it.

    I've wanted one for years. Got mine during 2020. And I love it.
    Its the blue collar Leica. The right size. It's black. it's elegant and the f2 Fujinon lense work great on this body.
    And I agree that it's a camera I may never sell.

    I tried a pair of Fuji X100S bodies (one with the wide conversion; one with the tele conversion) but kept forgetting the restrictions of the shutter speed due to the leaf shutter. After selling all the X100 gear, I picked up a used X-Pro2 (for weather sealing and adjustable diopter) along with the XF 35mm f2 WR lens. Now I have an all weather sealed package like my Nikons were when I was a working news photographer. The X-Pro feels a little more substantial than I expected and I love that extra feel. I have tricked it out with a LensMate LM-XP2 thumbrest and Fuji half case. What I really like about the X-Pro2 is the 1/8000 second ss and more than enough range in ISO. I see no reason to go to any of the X-Tx models or X100 models or even the X-Pro3. For me and my style, The X-Pro2 gives me exactly the capabilities and more that my Nikon D2H bodies had. As I have now returned to being more of a photojournalist or documentary shooter pairing the Pro2 with the 35mm lens gives me a similar setup to what Cartier-Bresson and Erwitt (Leica M and 50mm lens) used.
    Thanks for this video and I can echo your sentiments. At 74 yo, I plan on this setup being my last digital camera along side my Yashica Electro35 GS fixed lens (that belonged to my dad) to pass on to whomever in the family wants them

    • @jrthewitness
      @jrthewitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wonderful setup story. and I'm glad you've enjoyed the Xpro2 as much as I have. The photojournalistic is something that I've always respected and admired. Very minimal kits can take some amazing images. Keep the tradition going.

      I’m keen to know “what restrictions” there are for a lead shutter. As far as I am aware you can do more with a leaf shutter like high shutter speeds with flash without the need of high speed sync flashes. They are also silent compared to the traditional focal plane shutter.

    • @richardowen4558
      @richardowen4558 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mjfalcon007 On page 40 of the X100S manual (file:///C:/Users/seagr/Downloads/fujifilm_x100s_manual_en.pdf) there is a table that shows the maximum shutter speed for a given aperture. For example, at aperture f2.0, the maximum shutter speed is 1/1000 of a second. The built-in 3-stop ND filter will take care of some of the bright sunlight opportunities but I had a number of occasions where 1/1000 even with the filter I would still get overexposed images. As a longtime user of focal plane shutters in SLR/DSLR cameras I got tired of having to pay more attention to these limitations. I now use a X-Pro2 with a XF 35mm f2 WR lens and can shoot like I did with my previous cameras. Mostly I am LAZY!

    I've owned all the Leica Q/Q2s and the X-Pro 1 over the years. I shoot street and all my images look close enough to where I let my Q2 go for nearly $5k, rebought an X-Pro 2 Graphite and slapped on the 18mm f2. Money back in the bank and couldn't be happier. (And a pocket full of Amazon Fujifilm batteries beats out the cost of an extra Q2 battery). Cheers!

    Hi JR. I've only one question which relates to the reason why I'm hesitant in considering an XPro2--How's your unit's eyecup? Has it held up or has it begun to degrade such that it would eventually fall off sooner or later? (It's a very known issue of this specific Fujifilm camera body). Thank you.
