    In Sept. 2023 X-Pro2 is not cheap anymore. I've just checked used prices and shocked. It's available between $950-$1100 depend on the condition. Also used X-Pro3 prices higher than new X-Pro3 prices, it's around $1800. Moreover, X-E4 starts from $1200 up to $1400. It was $849 when new one available. This is ridiculous..!

      This is what keeps me off Fuji. Supply chain issues but also insane price gouging in the used market. Hard to get them new, absurd markup when they are inevitably discontinued early.

    100% agree, I just bought a X-Pro 2 over the X-Pro3. I could not see enough in the 3 to justify the extra cost. I just bought a X-Pro2 with 45 photo shutter count in mint condition and I got it for half the cost of a new Pro3. It is a marvelous camera. Yes it motivates you to want to go out. Thanks for the viddeo.

    I'm late to comment but I've only just come across this video and your channel. I love everything you've said. Yes, there are certainly times where you need high-end gear, the latest and greatest. If you're a commercial photographer who works to specific demands and expectations from clients, then yes, that's an appropriate reason. I used to do real estate, architectural and product photography. So highest resolution possible, lenses with least distortion, etc, I needed all that to be successful. But that was then.
    When I stopped doing commercial work to focus on creative work, it wasn't as easy a transition as I thought it would be. I kept using my high end gear. And while yes, it captured amazing images (in terms of resolution, dynamic range, sharpness), it didn't enable or inspire me to get out and shoot for the love of it. It didn't help me be more creative. I needed something simpler; something that was not just more portable, but also that forced me away from the megapixel race and obsessing about technical perfection.
    I bought an X-E2 about 7 years ago for travel. And it changed everything for me. I remember taking a 5-week trip to Europe and being anxious about not taking my Nikon full-frame, but I needed to travel light. In the end, I don't regret it at all. Those are still some of my favourite images. I did end up replacing that with an X-E3 because of the improved ergonomics, but 5 years on and I still have that X-E3 and an X-T3, and I use nothing else. It's opened me up to being more creative and more spontaneous, and that's really what photography is about. For me at least.

    Back in my film days, I shot with a Leica M6 film rangefinder with 35mm f/1.4, 90mm f/2, and 21mm f/1.4 lenses.
    I patiently waited for Leica to produce a full-frame digital rangefinder that accepted my M-mount lenses.
    In 2015, I bought a Fuji X-Pro 1 with 23mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2, and 16mm f/1.4 Fujinon lenses as a temporary solution while I continued to wait for Leica to produce what I really wanted.
    In 2017, I finally purchased a black Leica M10 digital rangefinder. However, the M10 was so defective that Leica gave me a full refund. I later purchased a chrome M10 but it too was defective.
    I upgraded my Fuji X-Pro1 to a graphite X-Pro 2 and have been so happy with it that I have abandoned my quest for a digital Leica rangefinder.

      I damaged one of my three X-Pro1 cameras while shooting a solar eclipse. Instead of replacing the damaged Pro1 with another, I decided to replace it with a Pro2. I now shoot with two Fuji X-Pro1 cameras and one X-Pro2.
      The slow auto focus and difficult manual focus are my main complaints with the X-Pro1. The X-Pro2 auto focus is faster and more accurate. The manual focus of the X-Pro2 is still difficult.
      However, for me, the slowness of the Pro1 auto focus is not serious enough for me to replace them with an Pro2. I will only replace my X-Pro1 cameras when they break. Then I will replace them with an X-Pro2.

      @@vaughnvalle well arguably ofcourse as 'magic' is quite subjective. Imho the 'magic' is also produced by the feel and look of the camera itself; the pleasure of shooting with it. All the while picking up a few battle scars along the way. I was keen to see the X-Pro3 but not really a fan of the set up on the back. Nice to see a fellow Helsinki photographer! My main issue is that I mainly shoot photos, but occasionally do video as well... My current camera, a Canon EOS 700D, is almost the same in all specs, with some advantages in the X-Pro 2. The main issue I have is just that my 700D is massive and annoying to carry around. I only use it for paid work and cannot stand carrying it for anything other than portraits because of its size and weight, compared to all my small, light film cameras. But, since I do some video as well, I'm interested to know what it's like on the X-Pro 2? is it still worth it, if I'm not getting a big upgrade in that area?

  • @BrunoChalifour
    @BrunoChalifour 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nicely done. Glad the elephant in the room was finally revealed at 7'50" (cost ad not performance), 3 mn before the end. ;o)
    Just a few notes:
    1-you do not have to shoot exclusively RAW (RAF) or JPG, you can also set up the camera to record both. It is very useful when one uses film simulations, especially BW as you can see the result with the JPG and always go back to the original unmodified file with the RAW file.
    2-I am not a great fan of film simulation which is just adding a color, saturation, or contrast bias to a better file (more realistic). Having used film for longer than I have used digital, I do not see the point of resurrecting the flaws of film (grain included-cute for beginners but rather useless).
    3-there is a slight inner contradiction in the video between "the camera/tool does not matter" and choose the "camera that motivates me to go out and shoot."
    4-another minor thing although color rendition has been improved over the X-Pro 1, especially regarding anything any shade of green, there is still a little room for improvement compared to some other cameras (obviously if one uses "film simulations" this is irrelevant as the bias toward unrealistic colors is even accentuated).
    5-increasing the ISO (=increasing the amplification of the signal coming from the sensor) generates noise (sometimes compared to film grain, as here, but in reality different-for instance with the creation of coloured pixels in the shadows) but also decreases the dynamic range of the photographs (resulting in blocked-out shadows or high lights, or both.
    These are details of course and your review is definitely an interesting one for anyone interested in that camera.

    I liked my X-Pro2, but ultimately sold it. The Fuji was fun, but frustrating. Several minor quips, but the deal breaker was that fiddly ISO/Shutter Speed dial. I like to dial in ISO (rather than use Auto with Exposure Comp) and it was really difficult. The Pro3 has issues with the LCD ribbon and sticky shutter button (there's a class action suit against Fuji pending in the US) and there's no news on if there will even be a Pro4. The Pro3 has flaws, but it was popular. Every camera I check out seems like a series of (expensive) compromises. The camera industry seems focused on an ever dwindling number of customers who constantly upgrade to the next new thing. Except Fuji, who discontinue successful cameras (like the X-E4, X-100V, X-Pro3) in their lineup.

Actually, yes, it's supposedly inexpensive BUT with the replacement (JJC's), I believe you still have to glue it yourself and even by doing so, it would still fall off at some point? I just hope that there's a way to get info if the latter batches' eyecup/viewfinder components were rectified that we won't expect the issue anytime. U can take the x pro 1 and do nice photography anyway. It’s not a gear thing!
    Those are all very good cameras. Someone that can’t do good photos with an older camera for example x pro1, xe1 etc. wouldn’t do it better with a brand new 3k camera.
    Nice photos btw and a nice little camera the x pro 2.
    In 2025 and after still a good camera to buy, I’m sure ;).

    • @insightsamuel
      @insightsamuel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! I recently tried the X-pro1 and it is still a very solid camera to use. Slower, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing..

    • @BrunoChalifour
      @BrunoChalifour 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are two areas where a 3K camera would be better: AF speed and the rendition of greens, very "Fuji" (back in the film days) which means not accurate. Improved on the X-pro 2 and then on the X-Pro 3.

  • @Mindartcreativity
    @Mindartcreativity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I disagree with your statement that you don't get a lot when going for the X-Pro3 vs X-Pro2. I have the X-Pro3 and I can say that what you get is the shooting experience. Having no visible screen, being completely in the moment of taking the photos is an experience that you can't replicate with a camera that has a backscreen. You're always tempted to check what you got and miss other moments. For some people it's worth it, I was immediately sold when they first introduced the X-Pro3 design. For others it's not worth it, and rightfully so. Sometimes I think about getting an X100V or even downgrade to the X-Pro2 so I'm able to shoot with the screen but then I come to my senses and realise that I love the X-Pro3 experience too much to replace that camera. Good for you that you enjoy the X-Pro2, it's a fantastic camera in 2022 for sure :)

    • @BrunoChalifour
      @BrunoChalifour 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ??? If the improvement from the X-pro 2 to the 3 is just the screen, it is easy to fix: turn the LCD off on the X-pro2 or simply do not watch it (quite easy). Especially with the EVF I never look at my back screen except to change some settings which would be exactly the same on the X-Pro 3.
