    I've tried to focus more on editing and showing processes in more detail in this video - along with voicing over whilst editing as opposed to during recording.
    Let me know if you like this approach and I'll continue to do it in future.

    Thank you - exactly what I wanted to see. Not many laptops today are so flexible with upgrade potential, and like you I'm really pleased to see they supply the screws and bracket for a 2.5" HDD.

    Brue, what a kick-ass video. This laptop is on sale for $350 at the moment at Best Buy and what you've shown is that the money saved we can take and hot-rod this baby to the moon. REALLY nice. Thanks!

    I screwed up my 3511 by uninstalling Maxxaudio, then trying to fix that by re-installing Windows 11 - which went into an eternal error loop. The girl at the shop said "I have seen this' (!). But she could not re-start with a combination of key presses I was not aware of. When it comes back I may revisit this video. With a virgin hard disk, loading Win11 should work. I like your detailed demonstration of how to open the machine without breaking the case.

    Exactly what I needed; thanks for the nice detail, clear instructions and great video quality. Always nice if someone did it before so I don't break the back panel or do something else that's stupid.. I guess like installing another drive without unplugging the battery first.

      Yes, according to the specs sheets if you have a model with NVIDIA graphics it runs the RAM at DDR4-3200 - we don't get these here in the UK however.
      I always fit DDR4-3200 modules anyway as they are what I keep in stock as there is little to no cost difference between these and 2666 modules.

    You can put the laptop in Service Mode before opening it. That way, you don't need to disconnect the battery. See the Service Manual for details.

Had the two 16GB sticks in in about 5 minutes, and another few minutes and it was buttoned up and booted. I just wish this lappy had USB-C. Other than that it's amazing, especially for the price.

    James, thank you for posting this detailed video about the Inspiron 15 - 3511. I've always had this question about replacing the PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD HD. If I remove the original SSD and I install a 1TB NVMe M.2 like you did, do I have to do anything with the Windows OS? Where is the OS installed then? How do I get the data from the SSD I am removing back to the new HD? In addition to that, I also have a question on how do I know how much RAM I can install in my laptop? I've read about people saying it can do up to 32 GB RAM @ 3200MHz ( or 2666MHz ) SODIMM, but my laptop specs says it's limited to 16GB. Does it have to do with the Windows OS running? For example, if it's 64-Bit can it then be upgraded to 32GB RAM? Please let me know.

      If I remove the original SSD and I install a 1TB NVMe M.2 like you did, do I have to do anything with the Windows OS? Where is the OS installed then?
      - You need to either clone the install across or just do a clean install on to it.
      've read about people saying it can do up to 32 GB RAM @ 3200MHz ( or 2666MHz ) SODIMM, but my laptop specs says it's limited to 16GB.
      - Dell only sold it with up to 16GB (2 x 8GB), but 32GB (2 x 16GB) should work fine.
      For example, if it's 64-Bit can it then be upgraded to 32GB RAM? Please let me know.
      - 32-bit has a maximum of 4GB addressable. For 64-bit its in theory 18.4 exabytes.
      In reality Windows 11 Home is limited to 128GB maximum, Windows 11 Pro is 2TB and Windows 11 Pro for Workstations allows up to 6TB.

      So, technically, I can upgrade my RAM to 32GB RAM DDR4 2666Mhz SODIMM (2 x 16GB RAM cards), my laptop should see it no problem? Also, if it doesn't see it immediately, would I be able to go to the BIOS or something to change some settings?

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should work fine, yes, but I haven't tested it myself. If its not detected immediately then it wouldn't be a BIOS setting or similar, it would be a compatibility issue.

Wanted to see why my keyboard is sort of sticking out around the center, I thought my battery might have been swollen, and it's a new laptop, but that wasn't the issue. Is this normal on your model as well, the fact that you can press down entire keyboard around the middle?

    For the SATA drive I notice on demonstrations people leave the clear plastic with the blue pads on. I just ripped that out. I figured it was temporary and mainly there as a guide and to hold the screws. Is there any reason the plastic needs to be on there? I figure you need as much ventilation for heat as possible, so why have a piece of plastic covering a drive? The screws hold the drive in place and the drive itself is already protected by an exterior.

    I've put 2 identical 8 gigs ram sticks on my laptop of 3200MHz speed each but when I open my task manager to check the specs on ram it only says a speed of 2667MHz. Why does that happen? Is there a problem with the ram sticks or does the motherboard have some kind of "cap" on speed so it can't utilize the full speed of the sticks? Btw I checked the cpu specs and it supports a memory up to 3200Mhz anyway

      On my system there were no warranty stickers or seals. You'd want to return the system to its original configuration in the event of a claim though.

    Is it ok to put full length M.2 card without any heat sync? Looks like the small form factor one got heat dissipation through the support riser.

      Only by replacing the whole mainboard - the processor in modern laptops is soldered down.

    Great video! Stupid question. How do I replace the c drive and without messing up the factory installed windows? What’s the right way to make sure I can boot after the install?

    • @eudofia
      @eudofia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't know if you have found the answer yet. This is how I did my upgrade. First back up all your files into an external drive. Second, create a boot drive using a USB memory stick. Preferably with an empty 16gb drive. Google instruction on how to create a boot drive, it's pretty easy. The next and important step is to go into BIOS and change the boot sequence, so that your laptop boots from the USB drive. How to enter into your BIOS depends on the model of your laptop. More often than not, it involves pressing repeatedly F8 or some other F key while the laptop is starting up. After this, you can go ahead and install the new drive.
      On booting up after installing the new drive, make sure you have the bootable memory stick inserted into a USB port on your laptop. The computer will boot into USB drive, and then will reinstall the factory installed Windows onto the new hard drive. After, you should go back into BIOS to change the boot sequence to boot from the new hard drive. Later you can now restore your files onto the new hard drive.
      Note: This method only restores the factory installed Windows onto the new hard drive. It does not reinstall the other software and drivers that came with your laptop. You have to redownload and install it manually. To be honest it is not a bad thing. You get a clean Window install after you upgrade your drive, without all the fluff and bloatware that came with the original system. Before I upgraded from an optical drive to an SDD, it used to take something between 2 to 3 mins to completely boot up due to all the crappy software starting up in the background. I thought I needed more RAM. But I switched to an SSD, and the computer boots up almost instantaneously.

    I upgraded ram and added 1tb nvme stick on a brand new version of this same exact computer. Upon installing windows from a usb, the wifi is not working. Is it required to replace the Wi-Fi card for this to work?

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll need to download the required wireless driver on another machine and install it if the version of Windows you installed doesn't have a suitable driver built in, or connect it via a USB ethernet or wireless adapter to download it.
