Just bought the Dell Inspiron 15 Touchscreen Intel Evo Platform Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor - 1080p - Windows 11 with 16GB RAM, 1 TB HDD (Model i3511-5088BLK-PUS) ~$550 US. McAfee Security fouls up mouse response, too many defaults cause problematic jerky motion, lagging keyboard and several other glitchy problems. Have spent about 30 hours correcting the Dell out-of-box problems since it was not usable; removed McAfee and use Microsoft Defense, Malware Bytes, and WebRoot. Now works great and HDD doesn't seem to slow it down. Overall, happy with it now and love the upgradability; lack of USB-C is a bummer, but don't need Ethernet.
I picked up one of these for 200 bucks recently and it was super easy to throw in extra storage and memory. My work provides a machine with a lot of horsepower to run all the applications for my job, so this laptop is perfect for personal use (emails, web browsing, occasional word doc or spreadsheet)
Bought a 3501 for my 10yo in 2021. I thought it was quite good as was able to easily open it to put in a hard drive and upgrade to 16GB RAM myself. Intel Tigerlake XE graphics is OK for light gaming, Fortnite even. Practically a gaming laptop!
Biggest problem with this is the attachment of the hinges to the lid. It's easy to upgrade...just a few screws...and you have access to two memory slots and a bay for a 2.5" drive. Obviously the ssd can be as well.
Never had any problem with the hinges, but anecdotally they do seem to be a weak point - generally its the mounting points pull out the plastic as opposed to the hinges themselves failing. I have an upgrade guide here: th-cam.com/video/hSrN1tw4a9A/w-d-xo.html
This reminds me of my old work laptop. I forgot which type is it but it was definitely Dell, a true workhorse. Now, I'm torn between picking this or Lenovo Yoga 6.
Been using an i5 8GB 256MB version for 4 days now. Wonderful for the price. No complaints except that I'd prefer larger keys than have the numpad keys and Dell should do something about the ugly fingerprint staining problem discussed at 1:39.
It does run hot. $399. Have had quirks (won't charge, slow to connect to WiFi at boot, random mouse rapid clicks on its own) but BIOS updates have fixed each one so far. Hinges holding up fine.
Dell still list this in my region and I’m buying it cause it cheap considering it is an Intel Core i3 system comparing others. Yeah I know it’s spec quite outdated in 2021....
mine is getting quite hot underneath and can't hear the fan turning. turned it on to cool power management and all driver updates have been installed including BIOS. only got it 4 days ago too so can't imagine that the fan will be dirty yet either

Dell is now denying warranty for "Accidental Damage" for things like the power port failing. Their hinges are an issue for sure, but the power port design and/or installation fails when the solder connection separates inside the device. This will cause the power to disconnect then reconnect and eventually will not allow charging. My unit was 10 months old when this started to become an issue. Dell Warranty department told me that plugging in, and unplugging the power adapter is cause for failure and is "ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE" and therefore not covered. They also told me that an issue I was experiencing with the mouse pad was due to using the laptop on my lap?? They have fallen to new lows with ways to scam the consumer.
Bought one during Black Friday . Took it back Wednesday. Hinge broke and made the screen stick out. Cheap plastic design. Hinge sits too low from the keyboard. Alot of people had the same problem. Do your research. The fan is loud too.

This the exact one I have upgraded the ram and storage. The only issue i'm getting is problem detecting 5ghz wifi from time to time. If anyone getting that issue please reply.
Not on the models sold in the UK - it is something the 3511 supports though (its listed in the specification document as optional and there is a connector on the mainboard) so may have been offered in some regions.
@@BrueComputing I'm choosing between an HP15-dw3033dx laptop which has very similar specs and they're about the same price, and this Dell laptop. They both seen pretty convincing and the HP has twice the storage, but I don't really know which has better speakers or display Also the HP has a fingerprint reader but I am unsure
HP looks to be a slight better choice - has a slightly brighter screen (250nits vs. 220nits), and 256GB SSD is a lot more useful than 128GB which can quickly fill up. Has USB-C as well, albeit not with USB-PD or DisplayPort I assume as not listed in the specs. Dell has a slightly smaller chassis design if that is important to you. Weighs about the same.

There are better options out there - because it is limited to DDR4-2666 the Iris XE graphics will be a bit crippled compared to models with DDR4-3200 support.
Looking at getting this to go alongside my pc for video editing streaming and recording when I’m not at home and can’t use my PC would this be good don’t wanna pay any more than this

If you purchased it from Amazon you should just be able to return it if you aren't happy? Here in the UK you can return an item for any reason in the first 14 days.
Good price on it - better deal than it was at the time of recording. Managed to get mine for similar with loyalty vouchers, cashback, etc, but still better value options out there.
@@BrueComputing Oh, I've only just re-checked this comment to see that you have replied! Could you suggest any good value laptops around £400 range for a broke student? This laptop does the job, but I would like some better features and build quality.
The port is right at the back - would it actually get in the way if you just looped the cable around the machine? Or just use some wireless bluetooth headphones?
Which model do you have? The 3511? Personally, I'm not sold on Windows 11 for general use at the moment - it has some improvements, but there are elements of the UI I'm not keen on. I use it on my personal laptop to learn about it, but my work systems are still running 10.
Just got this laptop. Performance was a let down. It feels the laptop struggles with even simple tasks like opening the explorer. So without installing anything I upgraded to windows 11 (as suggested by the system). Big mistake, on windows 11 the laptop struggles so much it’s practically unusable.
@@BrueComputing it's a 1tb HDD, 8gb ram, it 11th gen. I know the sdd would make a difference but it shouldn't be this bad. My 5 year old laptop which I was using before this is twice as fast.
@@tipusage Windows 11 alone takes up like 4 GB of RAM. I'm still using my 2014 Inspiron 3531 which originally came with Windows 8 before upgrading to Windows 10 after a year. The latest Windows OS is a hassle for a budget laptop like the Inspiron 3000 series. During 2019 I had it reformatted to Windows 7 which considerably improved performance though I don't think moving back to Windows 7 on a new laptop is recommended. Maybe you could go to a computer store and have a technician do a clean install of Windows 10 on your Inspiron.
Question, the one I want to buy is i5-1135G7 Processor, 12GB, 8GBx1 + 4GBx1, DDR4, 2666MHz, 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive for about $699 CAD about 400 pounds, would you say the 15510 with i5-11320H Processor, 8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 3200MHz, 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive be better? it is $30 more..
I'd take the Inspiron 15 5510 - you have the faster RAM speed, better build quality, fingerprint sensor and backlit keyboard. RAM and SSD can easily be upgraded in the future if needed: th-cam.com/video/zMVc8iDhzh4/w-d-xo.html
Looks good for the money. Depending on how many photos you have you might find the 128GB SSD is too small though. Both the SSD and RAM can be upgraded as per my video here: th-cam.com/video/hSrN1tw4a9A/w-d-xo.html But would probably make sense to just buy a machine with more RAM and SSD capacity if needed from the outset.
What games are you looking to play? The integrated graphics is a bit hobbled as it is single channel out of the box (you can upgrade it to dual channel) and limited to DDR4-2666 speeds. The i3 version is only Intel UHD graphics too, where as the i5 and i7 are Iris XE.
Hi! I’m currently between this laptop with a core i5 processor on windows 11 and the Inspiron 14 with a core i3 processor in windows 11 s mode. (Hopefully I know what I’m talking about???) Do you think the Inspiron 14 can handle being taken out of s mode and still run smoothly, or if I should opt for this laptop instead?
The packaging is terrible and exposes the laptop to accidental damage while on transit. I guess because insurance covers that. The plastic casing feels cheap and the keyboard rickety to use. It releases annoying clunky sounds when typing. I've never encountered a keyboard so cheapish like this on a laptop. Battery drain is terrible even when on power saving mode. I get around 5 hours on lightweight usage. I expected around 8 hours from it's 41Whr battery. My old Asus had a 26Whr battery and could manage 7 hours when new. The good thing about it is the WVA Full HD display. It has excellent colors and it's crystal clear from any angle. Performance is amazing too because the 11th Gen processors and Ryzen 5 5000 series deliver more than enough power to run through office tasks easily. The 65 watt charger also comes handy for quick recharges. It's sad that DELL makes it difficult for customers to post product reviews on their website. It's 13 days now since I bought this laptop and I can't see anywhere to post a review. DELL customer support are also not of help at all. Give or take, I wish I would've spent $200 more and get a better laptop.
It takes 10min to start this laptop sucks, very slow just bought one from costco and very dissapointed with it, super slow and crappy graphics card. Take your money elsewhere.
No problem! I was considering sourcing a 3520 with i3 to look at but having just bought the Lenovo Yoga 7i Gen 7 not sure I can at the moment. It looks to be quite a similar chassis design, just as you say with the 12th gen CPU and 120Hz screen.

It's hinge got broke in 8 month
I was told the hinges are sure to break, can someone confirm this?
Yes thats true
If it has fingerprint ????
Not on the models sold in the UK - it is something the 3511 supports though (its listed in the specification document as optional and there is a connector on the mainboard) so may have been offered in some regions.
pros/cons for students?
Do it have backlit
No, not on the models available here in the UK, but it may be an option in some regions.
Do you think 8GB 128GB is worth it for $342? Currently on sale, storage size not too much of an issue since I can add another drive in the SATA slot
Much better value than it was here in the UK - is around $500 with 4GB/128GB!
Personally I'd fit a 1TB SSD into it vs. a SATA HDD though.
@@BrueComputing I'm choosing between an HP15-dw3033dx laptop which has very similar specs and they're about the same price, and this Dell laptop. They both seen pretty convincing and the HP has twice the storage, but I don't really know which has better speakers or display
Also the HP has a fingerprint reader but I am unsure
HP looks to be a slight better choice - has a slightly brighter screen (250nits vs. 220nits), and 256GB SSD is a lot more useful than 128GB which can quickly fill up. Has USB-C as well, albeit not with USB-PD or DisplayPort I assume as not listed in the specs.
Dell has a slightly smaller chassis design if that is important to you. Weighs about the same.

No, none of the UK models offered a touchscreen. There is one in the spec sheet for the laptop so possible it was offered in some regions.

Is dell inspiron 3511 i7 11gen good for graphic and games?
There are better options out there - because it is limited to DDR4-2666 the Iris XE graphics will be a bit crippled compared to models with DDR4-3200 support.
Looking at getting this to go alongside my pc for video editing streaming and recording when I’m not at home and can’t use my PC would this be good don’t wanna pay any more than this

Hey I purchased this laptop on Amazon and my hinges are also damaged how can I get support from dell ? They are saying it's not covered in warrenty but it's design flaw
If you purchased it from Amazon you should just be able to return it if you aren't happy?

@ Brue Computing I have 1tb HDD..it's still slow... should I upgrade to SSD?..does it fast my laptop... please reply..ur my hope sir🙂
Anything equipped with a mechanical HDD will be pretty horrible these days - absolutely would upgrade to an SSD as it'll be a HUGE improvement.
Just got this laptop. Performance was a let down. It feels the laptop struggles with even simple tasks like opening the explorer. So without installing anything I upgraded to windows 11 (as suggested by the system). Big mistake, on windows 11 the laptop struggles so much it’s practically unusable.
What spec did you buy? Is it a model with a HDD as opposed to an SSD?
@@BrueComputing it's a 1tb HDD, 8gb ram, it 11th gen. I know the sdd would make a difference but it shouldn't be this bad. My 5 year old laptop which I was using before this is twice as fast.
@@tipusage It is, Win 11 has to be used with SSD, I have the 256gb nvme and it's fast.
@@BrueComputing How do you tell the difference? I'm new to all this.

Both the SSD and RAM can be upgraded as per my video here: th-cam.com/video/hSrN1tw4a9A/w-d-xo.html

What games are you looking to play? The integrated graphics is a bit hobbled as it is single channel out of the box (you can upgrade it to dual channel) and limited to DDR4-2666 speeds. The i3 version is only Intel UHD graphics too, where as the i5 and i7 are Iris XE.

dell 5311 hinge problem
