Thank you for this test. The R5 had much better overheating times with an open LCD monitor. Could you retest the 4K 120fps with an open monitor? I am absolutely interested in overheating at 8K 60fps, Could you also run this test? And does everything work if you also add an external power bank with DC to run for hours? If yes, then we could work only with one LP-E6P battery. Thank you for this testings 👍

Great video, short sweet, to the point. Truely appreciated.
For everyone else whining about a camera designed as a still camera....
Buy a video camera to do video.
I have yet to see a single review on the photo quality of a still image at 100iso.
Everyone is complaining about the heat buildup in 4 and 8k.
Go buy a fucking video unit.....that will solve your video heating, "i can hear the fans in the battery grip" and card size restriction.

With the R5 it made as much as a 10% difference. The new vents in the design probably lower that a little, but I'm sure it would still make a difference.

This is a hybrid system for photographers and video makers. We need to consider some points before judge the performance shown in this video.
1-How often will you use 4k 120fps and 8K, for how long?
2-Whats the time between the shots to let the camera cool down?
3-Do you need to shoot in 8k today? Really?
4-Do you have enough memory cards to shoot 4K120/8K, and enough disks to make backups?
5-For most jobs 4k25 is perfect, some scenes at 60fps for slow-motions, and very specific scenes in 120fps.
In my point of view these results are great for this kind of camera and for who it was made for. Great image quality and high resolution for photography and very high quality for video.

Thanks a lot for this test! Do you have any insight in how long the camera can stay in power-on / 4K 120P / 5 seconds pre-capture is activated / standby (waiting for start of recording) without shut-down? I am using my R5 for wildlife and a lot of this topic is waiting - not yet recording. Essential is therefore how long I can wait (for the action that is worth recording) and not how long I can record (the most clips are less than 1 minute in slowmo). Thanks a lot in advance! Kind regards, Ralf

This video is fantastic. Please help me out though... I'm doing heat tests as well on the R5 II. Filming at 4K-U at 30fps with the screen extended from the body and the vent cleared. I'm getting 2 heat bars at 13 minutes, 3 heat bars at 18 minutes..... 6 heat bars at 43 minutes. I read in a comment you said you tested 4K at 60fps and got no heat bars at all. What EXACTLY are all your settings? I'm clearly doing something wrong. Using Lexar professional CFExpress Type B diamond series 256GB card on full battery.

Thank you for the great test. Could you check these two things? If 8K-RAW-LT 60fps works when you also have attached a power bank to extend the battery life for hours (or if the powerbank can only charge the battery but not while recording) and if with open LCD monitor, it overheats really after 18Min in 8K-RAW 60fps. Could it be possible that you place a moving object in front of the lense because stressing the AF should generate some heat, and this is closer to the real world than a non changing motiv.
