The thing that always amazes me about Robin Williams is how he performs stand up with the zeal and conviction of a baptist preacher, stage presence of a rock star, and improvs like a great jazz artist. You can tell part of it is planned but he is going off in the moment, working the audience like two instrumentalists playing off of each other.

Not too many performers have had me in tears when they passed away. Losing Robin still gets to me.
You're definitely not alone in that feeling. The day he passed there were multiple people who text me asking if I was ok. They knew how much I liked his work & still do! Ha he would've had a TON of fun with everything going on these days.
I know, it was like everybody lost a “Funny Uncle”.

When Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away... I cried.... Robin Williams made me laugh till I cried when I heard of his passing my eyes watered up thank God we still have his work that he left behind probably the greatest comedian ever

He did massive amounts of Cocaine in the 80's. He often did so much at times in his stand up you can just see the sweat pouring off of him. I loved him so much, We all miss him. Such a wonderful human too.

It was so brilliant and bold for Robin to speak about HIV/AIDS on live tv in the 80s. Im sure there are many people here that werent born yet, too young or grew up in small towns where no one spoke about it. So many dont know how many were sick...and how most treated them all like filth.
It was scary and awful. So many people died far too young. So many died waiting for help. ❤

The relevancy kills me. It still feels current. Or perhaps it’s that he was in a league of his own cause nobody around has that certain element Robin had.
I wish you had known how many people would have dropped what there were doing to tell you how important you were to them. I still can't believe you're gone.
Billie Fingers it broke my heart when I heard, it's so sad because everyone loved him. The only problem is, no amount of love and support can make you happy if you can't find that in yourself.

Its not that he didn't know. Its what he knew. He was so self aware. He knew he couldn't live without pleasing people. What is it to lose the body but not the soul? He could have lived with depression, he had for 60 years. He couldn't live without performing.
His 9 minutes monologue was a 50 minutes - any other comedian - special. Greatest entertainer ever.
The modern monologues are boring compared to his 😅😅

WOW 8 minutes of comedic genius talking about sex and diseases without a curse word! I miss Robin for sure. His own daughter Zelda quoted from the The Little Prince-"In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing,when you look at the sky at night". Then she said. you- you alone will have the stars as no one else has them, I'll try to keep looking up😢. What a monologue. He was ahead of his time. Such energy and for 9 mins. He was truly a performer.
I remember watching this episode when I was in high school. Can't believe he got away with that monologue back in 1988. When he hosted snl it was always the funniest ever

The thing about Robin Williams is the audience had to work to keep up.
Robin Williams was too good for this world.
Robin Williams. Known world wide, very famous even here in Italy... and yet it annoys me that nobody here knows why he was so great. Most italian people have never heard his million voices, have never seen a single piece of his stand-up and have never heard him improvise, spawning a millions jokes in a minute from a single word. So sad, what a beautiful talent, as a comedian, as an actor, unique, creative, heartfelt. An old italian movie says "What is genius? It is imagination, intuition, decision and fast execution.", if that is true, Robin Williams was a true genius.
The man was a volcano of humor. So hip, so cool, so smart, so right.
I find it hard to watch Robin Williams anymore. He brought joy to so many people and we never guessed the pain he was in. RIP Robin ❤
It must have been agony for him to know he was losing all that talent, that speed lightning mind little by little. To know that your brain is withering away must be the saddest way to go. The body is strong but the lights are dimming. I understand why he took his life. You will always be a legend. Thanks for the laughter Robin.
Yeah, when I found out the whys.....combined with the fact that he'd faced down addiction and severe mental health struggles his whole life, all I could think was "What possible other choice could he have had?" Especially because the exact combination of diagnosis is.....next level hell. And I imagine he was already deteriorating pretty badly and wanted to go out while he was still him. And that will never stop breaking my heart. My favorite actor, comedian, hell, favorite human being I don't know personally. It's very rare a day goes by I don't think of him.
I think you've hit it. Must have been terrible realising what you had and slowly feeling it slip away. Reminiscent of the Hal 9000 in 2001 space odyssey. When Dave the astronaut slowly closed down Hals higher brain functions. Jonathon swift the great essayist was out walking and came across a tree where all the leaves at the top had died and changed colour. All the rest were still green. And he realised that it would happen to him. 'I shall die at the top first....'
What was he diagnosed with before he committed suicide? I just thought he was suffering with depression & addiction as he always had? X
@@chanellevenes1150Robin was suffering from Lewy body dementia, misdiagnosed as Parkinson's. He was experiencing severe changes in cognition, memory loss, sleep impairment, and loss of motor control. A devastating condition for a comedic and kinetic genius.
A partially dimmed Robin Williams would still have been 1,000x funnier than any other living being.

If you have never seen it, find Robin's episode on a show called Inside the actors studio. A truly great performance. From what I understand they had
cut down Robin's 5 hours of basically doing improv to 2 hours to make the show. RIP Robin Williams. One of the truly great comedians who was taken
from us too soon.
He was a man who could make you feel so many emotions in just seconds & behind it all he struggling silently while giving a lot of a reason to live on.
He will forever be a gift to humanity who brought us side splitting laughter and joy. We miss you Robin, now and forever.

Robin was found by a TV producer as he was doing his act on a street corner in LA. True!
They were looking for a fill in actor for a TV show - and the producer grabs Robin and takes him to the studio and of course he was spectacular in the role. After that one show - they began work on a show just for Robin and two weeks later the first episode of Mork & Mindy was on the air.
2 weeks from street corner act to Number 1 TV show inception. An incredible talent! (I think the producer was the late Garry Marshall)
We are all geniuses when we are in the right environment.
Toy skipped over the part where he debuted as Mork in _Happy Days_ in order to spin off into _Mork and Mindy._
He was discovered at the Comedy Store doing stand up (not on a street corner) by a producer for Laugh-In. He also appeared on the Richard Pryor Show. A few months later he appeared as Mork on Happy Days after they needed a replacement for a recently departed actor and then a few months after that, Mork and Mindy premiered. It wasn't 2 weeks and Mork and Mindy was never a #1 show and they didn't work on a show just for him right after the Laugh-In appearance. Once they saw him as Mork, the show was written to incorporate his zany nature but adjusting a show to suit an actor isn't uncommon.
None of that takes anything away from Robin and his phenomenal talent and it was still a quick rise to stardom, but that's what really happened according to multiple sources. Regardless of how his rise happened, he was one of the greatest entertainers to ever live.

What it must have been like to be inside his brain...The buzzing, whirring,.the clanging, the colours the roller coasters, the merry go rounds, the screaming and the crying and the laughing...but now all still.....and like the empty fair ground.....just some paper blowing and the ferris wheel stopped. A lonely clown crying by the mirror maze......

You capture him so well. He was a genuine comedic genius. A much missed voice to parody and tear apart pretenders and fools alike. I'm glad we had him for as long as we did but I think he left a hole in the hearts of many of us.

He was the GOAT, RIP. He's in another realm doing his standup comedy, and entertaining the audiences there.
I miss him so much. I'm gen x, remember looking forward each week , for new "Mork and Mindy" . Then, as I got older, I realized, Robin was truly a genius comic mind. His passing messed me up for a little while, I was already dealing with some "issues " , I find out that day , one of my very favorites passed, the way he did...my own headspace...was in the same neighborhood....at that time. I'm ok now....then. that was rough.
Rest in Peace, Robin. You are greatly Loved.

He actually trained in dance
He was an amazing dancer, singer, actor, comedian but, most importantly, A great humanitarian. He came from a wealthy and privileged family and had been raised in the realm of "classic" graces. He learned to let loose in his late teens, early twenties.
I saw his photo on the front of the Chronicle newspaper and thought it was about an upcoming show. Looked closer and pointed the paper to everyone l passed on the street that fateful, hole in my heart morning. Such disbelief, lost, unending tears. Missed and loved are understated words. Still so very missed. Still so very loved.
RIP Robin, we all miss you.

This is better than every single other monologue from SNL that I have ever seen.
Pity & shame that he never truly appreciated how deeply loved he was, how outrageously talented he was, and that none of us knew or understood how deeply troubled he was. So many choose to leave us every day. All those voices silent, all those smiles and faces forever lost.
how interesting to note years in the future his words are still very true and his jokes still hit the punchlines and are relevant.

An outstanding comedian that never failed to empress and make you laugh. When I first seen him on Happy Days in 1975, you knew there was going to be someone special that would make the world laugh, right up there with Richard Pryor and today with Dave Chappell...God's gift to us to help take the edge off life's crappy days...🙃
