@HOBOTECH - Dude.... wowwww..... I sincerely wish I could buy this RIGHT NOW.... excellent video AS ALWAYS.... and guess what.... *_it’s HOOUUUUBOOOUUUU TEXKNOOOOUU!!”_*
@HOBOTECH - hey man... one little tip/suggestion I felt I should share... Something I do quite often when a product has SCREWS where they’re less than convenient & I know I’ll need to remove them often... REPLACE THEM with a screw that has a KNOBBED END or an end that features BOTH a standard driver pattern, AND a swivel D-Ring (commonly seen in photography applications). Since that door isn’t exactly concealing a large “security risk” and even with children present I highly doubt their “curiosity” will provoke them to undo both screws on such an intimidating machine, I see NO REASON to leave those screws in when you can swap them for a “tool free” alternative. For anyone besides _Professor Hobooooo_ reading this, if you’re unclear on HOW to find an alternative fastener that has the same dimensions & thread pattern.... Just take one out, measure it’s thread length & diameter, and take note of the thread TYPE. Search for either a “male threaded knob” or “screw with knob head” and etc... you get the point. As long as the LENGTH/DIAMETER/TYPE of thread is a match (AND there’s enough clearance on your equipment to allow for the knob to function properly) you can’t go wrong. The manufacturer should sincerely consider the fact that PORTABLE GENERATORS are not only for “ideal” overlanding applications and ARE COMMONLY DEPLOYED IN EMERGENCY (UNIDEAL) SITUATIONS such as winter power outages and active rain/snow storms!!! Fumbling with SCREWS & SCREWDRIVERS during on-the-fly oil changes, maintenance, or troubleshooting during already tumultuous conditions?? NO THANKS.. The solution I’m offering here SHOULD BECOME STANDARD EQUIPMENT or should be added into the package so the end-user can choose which they prefer. They created a fine piece of machinery that MOST will want to trade in their gasoline generators for which PROMOTES long term usage where impromptu maintenance & troubleshooting WILL ARISE. Small details like this one are what separate the Hyundai’s from the Bentley’s... I think HOBO should provide this feedback and let’s see if they send out 2 upgraded screw replacements to anyone who already purchased this. Ya never know!
I was just scrolling down to let you know about the normal distance the sound is rated from. 54 is very low though. That generator sounded loud. Hard to tell not in person.
For someone with a battery bank, needing to just recharge it on cloudy days (less solar), running this occasionally on eco-mode as needed is an excellent way to address the need! THANK YOU!
I had a dual fuel generator for my 5th wheel trailer back in 2010-11 when I was living on the Mississippi gulf coast. It saved my bacon twice because after a power outage (lots of wind storms on the coast) there was no way to get gasoline, but propane sellers had plenty of pre-filled tanks plus delivery trucks.. I bought a 70lb tank that lasted 5 days.. Sold it with the RV, but now I'm ordering this one for my food truck.. Perfect size to run the fridge and lights.
Great review as always. I've actually had one of these for a month or two, picked it up as a backup / supplemental power solution as we are off grid solar (5kw of panels, 10.5kwh battleborn batteries). Overall I really like the generator and propane is SO much easier to manage than gasoline. I did run into a bit of a limitation folks should know about... I have a 24v battery bank so I use this to run a Victron 24v/12a battery charger to charge my batteries when sun isn't cooperating. This used about 340w and I liked the solution so well that I added a second charger so I could charge 24v/24a for 680w and burn propane faster or just do one at 340w and get a longer run time off a 20lb tank. But I found that both chargers running would overload the generator every time... it turns out the chargers only pull 340w but they do it at 4.7a.... and if I found that the ALP makes out at 7.1a. So 2 chargers wouldn't run... and since 4.7a is well over 1/2 of 7.1a it was pulling a much heavier load than I thought on the little generator. So getting a 40-50hr runtime with one charger wasn't really in the cards... and I found the best I could do was run one charger at 24v/12a and the other charger at 24v/4a (on low setting) So I get 24v/16a charging while pulling around 5.8a / 480w. With this setup I get 23hrs out of a 20lb propane tank. Not bad and it does the job but not as good as Id hoped. That said... I love the solution for backup power. Its small, light, easy maintenance and since it doesn't have a gas tank you can store these just about anywhere, you can even ship them if needed which you can't typically do with a gas generator. Truck drivers could store one of these in their cab for emergency power. Just don't run it in there. lol. I'm tempted to get a second one. A couple other things... 1. they probably measure noise from 20ft away... most generator specs are from that distance. It does get pretty quiet when your not right up on it. 2. If the black hose connected to the side of the generator isn't hanging free... if its bound against something or bound upward by a 1lb propane tank... then in time the vibration can work the connection lose and your propane will leak out. Only happened to me once... but getting 6hrs out of a 20lb propane tank wasn't good. lol. Just make sure its hanging free and the connections are hand tight and you won't have any problems.
The main reason this generator is more efficient than a dual fuel is that propane has a significantly higher octane rating that gasoline. The motor can be designed with a higher compression ratio to take advantage of the higher octane. This may partially explain why it’s a little louder than comparable generators. As the professor stated though, propane is less energy dense. One advantage of propane the professor didn’t address in this video is storage. Propane fuel doesn’t degrade over time and the equipment that runs off propane takes a little less maintenance to put into extended storage since you don’t have fiddle with fuel additives or drain fuel from the carburetor. The professor is being cautious about the oil drain interval. Stating that he would change it at half the listed hours. On a small motor like this, it’s cheap insurance. My experience (from years ago) with working on propane converted V8’s is that the recommended change interval can be significantly extended because propane burns so much cleaner. We came to that conclusion through oil analysis and real world experience. Great review as always Professor!
@@HOBOTECH i would agree for gasoline fueled gens but with propane its a lot cleaner . Maybe this would be a good review for your Channel send the oil out to get analysis on 100 hours with gasoline and then use the propane one and do 100 hours and see what the difference in the two oil samples is
Extremely well done. I have not seen a demo as yours for a long time. I believe if more viewers were to see your "approach" to Instructional Videos then perhaps they would follow your format. Informative, edited, to the point, no bs, educational yet deflective.
Thank you, Professor! This is perfect for those who do not like storing gasoline. Also fills a gap between solar, wind and gasoline. Redundancy helps deal with equipment failures and such. Another well done video! Best regards from hurricane prone Coastal Texas!
Propane also has a LOT longer shelf life than modern gasoline does. So you don't have to worry about fuel you've had sitting around for a few years being junk.
@@Shane-Singleton I just experienced this during the DEEP FREEZE 2021 here in Coastal Texas. I had one 5 gallon gas can from 12 months prior, and although treated with Seafoam, it was still regular unleaded 87 oct with 5% Ethanol. My other gas cans had Ethanol-Free 92 Octane, and when I fulled my generator with the junk gasoline, there was a marked difference in how the generator ran and even how it sounded. When that tank was near empty, I re-filled with Ethanol-Free and was back to normal. And, I just bought a Dual-Fuel generator and more propane.
@@GalvestonCountyMike I'm up in the Dallas area here. Ever since we got a local Buc-Eee's that has ethanol free gasoline we use that for all of our small engines and keep ~15 gallons of it in rotation due to its stability. We had similar issues in the past as you had. Even in fuel that was treated with Sta-Bil. It just wouldn't last.
@@Shane-Singleton Shane. I'm in Galveston County. The temp got to 16 degrees F for a few hours. I put 45 hours on my vintage Generac 8KW generator. Fortunately had a couple of weeks prior, changed filter and put fresh batch of Mobil1 10w30 oil in crank case. After 45 hours of run time from the freeze, the oil still looks great. We have a Buc-ee's here in Texas City, and I use their Ethanol-Free 92 octane fuel. Amazing stuff!
After Hurricane Michael hit our area one of my neighbors couldn’t get his 5000 watt generator running so he put it out on the side of the road with all the other trash. I picked it up and then put a Propane/natural gas conversion kit on it a few months later. It runs like a champ on propane tanks. It’ll supplement my gasoline generator quite nicely. The propane generator starts a lot easier than my gasoline one does and it runs a lot smoother, too.
Best review yet! It sure explained why I didn't get the 60 advertised hours out of my propane tank . Left me short few days on a dry camping adventure. I needed it to power and ARB fridge freezer and a small mini freezer and I estimated about 40 hours a tank but I didn't count on the tanks not being completely full and I only averaged about 24 to 34 hours a tank. That makes sense now. I appreciate you weighing it and all the time you took to do the test it was very enlightening . For others people's references, I went through four tanks in nine days. I was running constantly in the beginning days using the small freezer to make ice for the extra cooler. I changed the oil every 24 hours because of the environment I was in. Once I could see I wasn't going to make it to the end of our 12 days, We were able to transfer everything to the ARB and I ran it to power that for about 15 hours day. We ran out 24 hours before ready to leave the island. I'll be better prepared this time and now I know why I need more thanks to your in depth review. Thanks again!
In my 75 years I have never experienced a better Customer service dept than ALP Generators. They worked with me to find and replace the shipment lost by Fedex. Response makes Amazon (who is ok in my view) seem like a kidnergartener. Thanks ALP
After your review, I got this generator. We lose our power a lot because of where we live in NEPA. Customer service was great. The first unit was damaged in transit. I called and they immediately replaced it before I returned the original. We lost power before I had gotten everything set up and needed to fill a tank of propane. I did have a bunch of 1# tanks and just used some of them for the night. We got 3+ hours on each tank but I only ran 2 floor fans, lights, and a tv. It was a hot summer night but this was great for the situation. Since, I’ve gotten a 5# tank for camping and 20# tank for home use. I’m a grandma and was beginning to have trouble starting my Honda but this is just fine. So, thank you for this demo.
I got mine today. It is an impressive machine. It handled the 5,000 BTU AC (85 degrees in the camper before running the ac), the cooler refrigerator, and the 12 volt 40 watt convertor to charge the camper battery with no issues at all. It is really not that loud. I was bit concerned after watching your videos, but for me it is not an issue. It is much quieter than the 2000 Watt Westinghouse gas generator I have. After a no load break-in and changing the oil. I tested it for 3 hours as I would use it with the teardrop camper. Simply no issues at all; no gasoline odor, very little exhaust odor, and easy start. This is a perfect generator for the off-grid small camper. I really wanted a propane generator has I already bring a small 5 lb lp tank for cooking. Now I don't need to bring a gasoline can. Thanks for your video it was spot on.
That is actually solid efficiency numbers. The machine looks pretty good for someone that wants a propane unit. The ease of storing one is very appealing.
Professor. Don't ever lose the screws. Get a rare earth magnet, nice and strong. Hot glue it to the INSIDE of that panel. When you remove the panel, the screws are fresh out of the holes, so stick them to the magnet. When the panel goes back, WALA! THERE they are!, Easy to keep, as they never leave their panel for any distance, and the location is always SNAP, stuck to the magnet ON that panel. No matter how long, or how complicated your work inside that panel, such as replace a fuel filter, or spark plug, or cable, or gasket, after you are done, 3 weeks later, when that rare part comes in the mail, THERE THEY ARE!
For those of you that aren’t very mechanically inclined I will add if you’re worried about a propane leak just glad your bottle of simple green or dish soap and water and once you turn the valve on the tank spray the line at all connections and check for bubbles if it bubbles you have a leak tight fitting or replace hose as necessary
I have this generator but with the auto-start battery included. I absolutely love it- it is so easy to use. I used it on a trip across the country, even at 8500' in freezing conditions in Colorado. I am very happy with it.
Thanks for the review/test. After hours of educating myself re. generators & fuel sources, this unit is exactly what I need for power & light during a blackout and I probably would not have known about it but for your efforts!

A generator is something on my distant wish list. I will now consider a full propane unit once it's time. Glad to know this one ships to CA! Thanks, Professor👍🏼
I really not only think but know that you Professor has found your space. I followed you when you were stranded in Wyoming and felt for you yet look at you know. From your move from Cali to on the road it’s been fun to watch. You are the premier reviewer out there. Touché
Great Job Tom! One can also add: - that you can generally store propane indefinatly - propane is much better for the engine longevity because it burns a lot cleaner and leaves less soot - and you dont have to worry about the carb getting gunked up from leaving fuel in there unleaded has a shelf life, would need fuel stabalizer, and most unleaded is mixed with ethanol which is not good for the longevity of some of the internal components.
Exactly where in the world do you find most unleaded gas to be usable only by flex fuel vehicles? What you want is an ethanol generator that produces heat obviously you can use in other words it interfaces with your existing hot water heater. During prohibition we were allowed to buy 200 lb of fruit to operate the generators or just drink
@@SolarWebsite Generator, Noun. A dynamo or similar machine for converting mechanical energy into electricity. By definition a battery is not a generator.
@@Erin-Thor The fuel tank of a generator also *stores* energy 😉 But I agree that calling a portable battery with inverter a generator is a little bit confusing.
Something I wish more would do. I don't need pages and pages of vapid lawyer pleasing "safety" instructions in 12 languages - just give me the basics to get the bloody thing operational.
The sound level rating for generators is usually measured at 7 meters. That's why you found it to be louder than what they advertise. If you want to run a 5K BTU window AC. Get the Frigidaire FFRE053WAE (410 watts) and a gas generator that will give you the longest runtime per gallon on ECO mode capable of powering it. That will give you the lowest fuel cost to run one.
On the oil change/hours, LPG/Propane is a very clean burning engine, the oil will come out looking almost as clean as new. Very little contaminates and carbon. The cylinders also last longer as the gas is dry and doesn't wash off the oil film in the bore. Here in Aus we had all our taxi industry on LPG and many factory fitted dedicated LPG cars. Not uncommon to get 1m miles from them. I have had one for 10 years and it is the lowest maintenance engine I have ever owned. (LPG-liquid pretroleum gas.)
I did a propane conversion on a larger gen a little while back. I will never run gasoline again. So the gas tank on the gens just become more space and weight. But I want a 2,000 - 2,500 model. A few weeks back I emailed ALP. They said a larger model was in development. for early 2021 release. Keep and eye out and do a review on that for us
My thoughts exactly! I have a 1000W Jackery that supports most of my needs, but have had a few situations where I needed more. Albeit this is an excellent option @ that price compared to what the Jackery cost for the same amount of power.
Recently did a tri-fuel conversion on my Yamaha EF3000isB. For less than $150, got everything I needed to have it run on propane, natural gas, or gasoline. I haven't run it on gasoline since. Love it!
Great research. 15:50 consumed about 3lbs of propane for 4 hours @65% load (about ~550 watts).. so roughly 21 - 26 hours running a wall unit AC from a full tank of propane. Which if you are only running the AC at night from 10pm to 6am is about 3 nights, good for a long weekend. Nice!
Keep in mind that dBA is a variable metric based on distance from the source. Many generator manufacturers measure from approximately 23 feet (7 meters). For an apples-to-apples comparison, make sure the dBA ratings of all the generators you’re comparing are measured from similar distances
I really love my 2300watt Ryobi gas generator, and it's bluetooth to see the load, fuel level, shut off timer etc, on my phone. But this is very interesting. And another stellar video, brother! 🤘🎸
Nice video, thanks Captain Hoodie! I have the Baja 700W-900W propane generator. Perfect for supporting a small load, or charging our battery generators! The batteries can take the surge (as these won’t), and works great. Just getting my camping and emergency home set up about figured out. You don’t waste a lot of excess Watts from a larger generator when you don’t really need them. Thanks. D
Did it stand out to you that he did not properly simulate an ac? Because the starting watts are over 1000. Would be nice to know the startup capability of this generator.
@@paulhorton765 The champion dual fuel generators are nice because the newer inverter models have large capacitor. A lot of things in his reviews stand out to me. Like he doesn't seem to know that all engines are run at the factory and then drained of oil.
It's a hard choice between that and the Baja 900 (Ryobi). I would have preferred to have DC output and a pure sine wave inverter - my Baja has neither. The 15% power increase wouldn't have hurt, either. Still, the Baja is almost half the price and suitable enough for my purposes, which is mainly a backup method to charge my batteries on days solar is insufficient. But the DC output would have made charging more efficient and eliminated the need for a charger, and the pure sine wave would have made it more versatile (such as running A/C or sensitive electronics directly from generator). Great review, gives me something to chew over. 😋
i also have Baja just to use as backup. it will NOT carry an a/c. hoping it might charge Bluetti while I run a/c. I am seriously considering another Yamaha or Honda. Although I do have solar panels I think a good generator is another good option to charge battery bank.
I’d bring something like this camping and would possibly only bring a supply of small tanks, since I refill those myself. Of course I could also see myself bringing 2@20lb tanks camping as well, so thanks for the promotion code! Very informative and thorough video.
Sounds good! I don't care how efficient it is or what kind of fuel it uses. I just want one that I don't have to fill the tank twice a day, and will run all night to keep my A/C running during power outages (I like to sleep late). I just wish it was quieter. I live in a city, so I don't want my neighbors complaining about the noise at night.
LOL. We have power, no natural gas, so heater, water heater is propane. I was thinking this thing would run a month on my 300-350 gal tank. Then I just realized I have another 5, 5 gal (20lb) and 6, 7 gal tanks. Running two of these in tandem, I could run my house in summer pretty easily.
UPDATE: Purchased this during your review, I never pulled it out of the box until recent 2023 Idalia storm through Florida, well I pulled it out hooked up the 20 Lb propane tank & it worked flawlessly, I was SO impressed I ordered 2 more just in case
It seems like it may be a good backup for keeping a refrigerator cool or running some smaller devices. For the same price you can get a much larger unit that can run the whole house.
Typically during a power outage, a homeowners biggest concern will be refrigeration / freezer. Because of their size, it’s not always easy to bring the refrig. / freezer close to the generator so you have to calculate the power draw PLUS the loss of the extension cord. Another advantage to propane is easier / cleaner storage of fuel. Gasoline will eventually contaminate and foul but propane will pretty much remain stable. I’ll consider one. Thanks for the informative video. It answered a lot of questions.
very well done as always. I finally got tired of having red gas cans all over in the winter in case I needed to use my gas generator. The smell...awwww.... so...the idea that I can go get a propane tank at Costco and have that nice white clean smelling thing sitting there instead....is really enough already to get me to buy one of these.....
Plugged you big time HOBO-Dude with the ALP folks. Told them I wouldnt have bought if it wasnt for your review. They said that they saw/met you in person at the Arizona Expo last month. You sure get around HOBO DUDE!!!!
Honestly, ever since he was bought out by Los Pollos Hermanos it really hasn't been the same. For one thing the salt has this odd bluish color to it on some days...
@@HOBOTECH It was the decibel meter that made my decision. But I do appreciate you testing it, you have made some decisions on purchases easier.....Thank you!!
@@HOBOTECH yes in the video, I think you stated you were about 6/7 feet away during the testing. Most are done at 23 feet, my Champion at 10 feet is right around 59/60 decibels.
Thanks for the review. I've been looking at the ALP for a couple of months. It would be perfect for our small townhouse here in hurricane country. Gasoline storage is a problem. Propane is fine. I don't need a whole-house generator. I mainly run off the Bluetti's when the SHTF. This would be to recharge them during long power outages. Glad to know I would need to be prepared with my own oil.
I posted this review on the ad for it on FB but they took it down, oh well, just trying to spread a good review of it for them! TY for doing this, I have 2 to go along with the AC200P.
The tool thing is definitely NOT a deal breaker. I have one of those little 2 stroke ”Hitch Hiker” generator and a 2k Predator. Each has its own little tool kit, zip tied to the handle, with a SP wrench, SP, and screw driver and a qt of oil (+a sm bottle of 2 stroke oil for the Hitch Hiker). This way no matter the situation I have what I need for sm repair/maintenance. Each has its own 5 gal jug of fuel with Stabile, and it’s changed out about every 6-8 mos. I’m a prepper. Gotta-be-good-to-go when you gotta go. 😁
Great presentation !!?! :>) FYI, propane runs way cleaner than gasoline engines. since the Alp runs strictly on propane, it should be able to run longer between oil changes. Keep up the great videos,, please :>)
But when is not running it is very quiet 😂. Considering buying one to complement my gasoline generator. Thanks for this honest review You got your new subscriber
Great review, perfect for operating a small air conditioner. Very nice for a cabin in a remote area, especially since they can be combined to double the power. As an SAE oil engineer, i would have used the original oil for twice as long, for a better engine break-in. A full synthetic oil will decrease fuel consumption by about 5 to 8 percent, but triples engine life, because it doesn't allow carbon to build up.
Another great review. Most powerful electric heaters need about 1500 watts to really heat a large room so I would recommend at least a 2,000 watt genny if you need serious heat. I converted my little Honda Eu2200i to propane (Hutch mountain) and even at that wattage it really revs up when connected to 1500 watt heater. This is my the best Generator review channel on all of TH-cam. Thank you for all the informative reviews!
For those who might be reading your comment they should know powering resistance heaters with inefficient generators is the definition of stupid. A little bit of platinum can go a long way.
My wood stove takes care of my heating needs if power goes out. Just want to charge my Bluettis and my EF-Delta Pro on cloudy days. I'm waiting to see what their next bigger model is.
I expect the amount of oil needed for that equipment probably would fall in either the exception range classification where no label was needed or just a limited quantity label...either way by ground fairly easy to ship... no hazardous paperwork would be needed to ship....probably saves you $$ for the price of the unit my guess is.
@@WaltPerry as someone who has looked into this shipping from Canada to the USA ANY, and I mean any oil in it will cause issue. Does not matter the amount. If it's in a sealed container with it though you can get away with it.
Companies fill motors with oil to start and test and break in for some period of time. But they have to drain the oil to ship. Propane engines can go twice as long as gas or diesel on oil changes. They are a lot cleaner. Supposed to last 50% to twice as long as gasoline engines too
@@HOBOTECH i have mower shop and they all come with tags must fill with oil. They all show signs they had oil in them before. Figured for testing or breaking in. I just never asked if they ran them 5 min or 1 hour. May vary from mfg. Had guy move here from England and shipped 3 year old push mower. He didn't drain oil like USA law requires. Box got upside down at some point. Soaked air filter. He got it at his house. Wouldn't start. I always check air filter first cause this is issue 25% of time. Took old filter out. Pulled rope. Started on 2nd pull. Muffler burnt out oil in it. Put new filter in and charged $50 for filter and 10 minutes spent on it. Kinda strange actually you got motors that never had oil. Maybe smaller or newer companies? Maybe not as good of quality check system? Everything should have signs of oil and being started at 1 point. If not that company is not testing before shipping and will have a higher return rate. Just my 2 pennies from my 20 years as mechanic and shop owner. I just found you today. You sound like a smart dude. Great vids on couple I watched. Hopefully I didn't come off as condescending. Lot of stupid guys don't know what they saying out there you know. But you I admire as you are a smart dude.
1000 watts? People need to read the labels on their appliances! It tells you what the power consumption is. 600, 1800, 1000, 1800 watts? What does that mean? Power (basically) is Voltage times Amps. 120 volts times 10 amps equals 1200 watts. A typical wall outlet is either 15 or 20 amps. How many times have you tripped one of those? 1000 watts will disappoint most people. On the other hand, it's 1000 watt hours, which may be stored in a battery bank, which a more powerful inverter can provide the surge needed during high demand.
Using your test data on this Alp 1000w, it achieves 9.9% efficiency by converting 9.9% of the energy in propane to 120V AC. It also seems to drop to 8.7% efficiency when going up to 550 watts. I also ran some energy conversion numbers on the Generac 7127 iQ3500 and found that it is around 14.5% efficient at 1500 watt load (50%). That means it converts 14.5% of the energy contained in gasoline into 120V AC which sounds reasonable for such a small engine. No data for higher loads was available but it seems to get more efficient at higher loads. What this means is that people will pay less money per unit of energy on the larger generators which is consistent with thermodynamic theory.
Yes the closer you get to the running rpm of the motor the more efficient it becomes. About a 80% to 90%load is the most efficient usually. Also a inverter style generator is actually less efficient than a regular non inverter generator when running at 80-100% or off eco mode. Inverter generators lose a few % efficiency when they convert AC->DC and back to AC. It's always best to size your generator to the rough load you know you will be using most of the time.
The nice thing about propane is it already in a gaseous state. (IF you are getting liquid, you have the tank upside down) Once the engine fires on propane, it should run and idle without using choke.
thanks man! after picking up a bluetti200p I'm looking for another generator option for no sun,, this is great review, I was just looking at Costco generator that is both gas and propane but its a beast! hope to see other generator reviews as I am upgrading all my preps, thanks again you awesome!
Great presentation. Keep up the good work. You do get a little too technical for me, but I understand that there are others who are interested in those finding.
For those curious... I use my ALP to charge my battery bank (off grid solar) and a full (not exchange but taken and filled) 20lb propane tank on the ALP powering my 24v victron battery charger will put 402ah into my batteries which is just a bit over 10.5kwh. So if your looking for a cost analysis... It cost $11 to fill the 20lb propane tank... which privides 10.5kwh of energy... over a continuous runtime of 23 hours... with a load of ~700w / 5.86a.

The propane being the clean fuel that it is , is most certainly why the 100 hour oil change is listed
Many generators claim 100hr change but I found that's way too long and probably why my Sportsman self destructed.

Bought one today using your code and saved $25 Thanks for the tip.
Very cool tip 👍👍

Great Job Tom! One can also add:
- that you can generally store propane indefinatly
- propane is much better for the engine longevity because it burns a lot cleaner and leaves less soot
- and you dont have to worry about the carb getting gunked up from leaving fuel in there
unleaded has a shelf life, would need fuel stabalizer, and most unleaded is mixed with ethanol which is not good for the longevity of some of the internal components.
Indeed, the clean burn is probably why the oil change recommendation is greater than for gas generators.
Wow, it's an actual generator.
Lately, a lot of this stuff is labeled as a "generator" when it's literally just a battery.
So a battery without an inverter?
That's racist! 🤣
Well, technically speaking, both convert energy stored in a chemical into electrical energy, but I see your point. Batteries are the future, though.

Lmao how true!
The executive summary.
Love your channel and the retro aspect you use in your videos, how I miss the hood old days😊
Just used your code and got the free hose. Big thanks for all your work and reviews.

I use my generator for bad solar days and for high power draws for work purposes this is amazing
Nice!
A wall unit? That's a small as hellnwall unit if it only pulls 550w
Keep in mind that dBA is a variable metric based on distance from the source. Many generator manufacturers measure from approximately 23 feet (7 meters). For an apples-to-apples comparison, make sure the dBA ratings of all the generators you’re comparing are measured from similar distances
Yes, I didn't realize this until too late. No wonder they get 50-something db.

I guessed right. My Honda on propane usually needs 3 pulls also.
Nice video, thanks Captain Hoodie! I have the Baja 700W-900W propane generator. Perfect for supporting a small load, or charging our battery generators! I appreciate the deep explanation and your tests, been doing a lot of research and you seem to be very helpful/the only one that breaks it down slowly
The depression under the handle grip is a dual purpose... hand insert / oil cover screw maintainer... for when you're changing the oil.
But they will fall on the ground as soon as you pick the thing up to tilt and poor out all the oil!
My test was at 1m, this generator is rated 54db at the proper testing range.
This would run for ever on my 2 100lb tanks. Could be fun
For $500, I'm definitely getting one when I move to my new property.
It seems like it may be a good backup for keeping a refrigerator cool or running some smaller devices. For the same price you can get a much larger unit that can run the whole house.
You'd be a fool to run a generator for the home on propane. Best off purchasing a diesel generator 6KW for about $1500
@@ciaranbyrne62 if you have $1500 to spend.

Can confirm, far easier to ship something without oil in it. Even for shall we say far far larger machines
A sealed container from factory in a SAE certified bottle.

It’s a splash cooled unit, I don’t even measure mine like that, I fill em till it drains out and call it good. Great video
You are supposed to check the decibles at 21 ft. That is how all the generators are tested for their rating.
Companies fill motors with oil to start and test and break in for some period of time. But they have to drain the oil to ship. Propane engines can go twice as long as gas or diesel on oil changes. They are a lot cleaner. Supposed to last 50% to twice as long as gasoline engines too
This is the first generator I ever had that wasn't totally bone dry in the oil casing. I suspect they did break this one in.
That looks like a perfect little generator for an RV travel trailer?
You can buy two and parallel them for double the power.
@@HOBOTECH Good to know but I've already purchased the 2000w Bluetti and will see how well it meets my power needs for my 27' trailer.
It's always best to size your generator to the rough load you know you will be using most of the time.
good show professor, now I like you to use that generator on house heaters. I'm curious on those results
My thoughts exactly
Great presentation. Keep up the good work. You do get a little too technical for me, but I understand that there are others who are interested in those finding.
Little loud for my tastes, but I dug the Mandalorian reference! 😬👍
Can the orfus be changed to run off Natural gas like everything else that runs on propane??
Is there anyway to put an enclosure on that generator? I really want to buy it but Its too loud :s
Sure.
Be very careful enclosing air cooled engines, you need both exhaust and intake vents of sufficient size.
I am new to the channel, I had to rewind your intro to make sure I heard your name correctly.
Great review, I might get one of these for Amateur Radio applications....nice review 👍👍👍
No No no no no I want the lab coat now. Digging the vids keep it up .
