Thanks for giving us motorcycle riders a video every now and again. Don't get me wrong, i watch all your car reviews because I love cars, but bikes are a bigger thing for me now a days. Keep it coming :D
watched this before bed. was laying on my back dozing off to the sound of you talking bikes, was just nodding off to sleep and nearly shat myself when you said goodnight at the end haha
Got my 1986 Toyota MR2 for $1000. Bought it partially because of your AW11 video. I've fallen in love. I've done a cross state trip, in it. What a fun drive that was. RUST EVERYWHERE
This video convinced me to buy a Katana 750 as my first bike.....that lasted 1 week before I shoved it into a curb at 50..... 1 year later I picked up a KLR 650, most FUN thing ever. My favorite recommendation as a first bike for a bigger person
As the proud owner of a DR650, you would not regret buying one. It will do literally any motorcycling task you can throw at it and just keep on ticking.
My buddy just got into riding, and inherited his dad's old GS500. We used my garage to fix it up, as it had been sitting for 3 years. Once it was running, I took it out for a spin, being the only licensed rider. Coming from 2 VFR's, a '95 as my first, and now an '07, I though I would be bored, but what a fun little bike! I can see why they have a strong following. Hope you stay on two wheels. Ride safe!
same here! Drove it to and from high school and community college. Then an old lady turned left... Luckily I went over her car not into it and walked away.
"unsafe in your favor" I feel the same way about starting with something underpowered.. they teach you a whole new level of defensive driving and really force the whole "you're invisible" thing apon you. Denver is great for scooters.. they're totally fast enough in the city and because of the street layout, you CAN get pretty much anywhere.. at least 25 miles in any direction. A little sketchy at times but still doable. At least with the 72cc Chinese one I still have. China scoots will make a mechanic out of you too. Mainly because no one will touch em and if they will, you're doubling the $ you've got in it.. Also my rebel has a single carb for two cylinders.. I'm glad TBH. Also, after 16 years of 50-80cc things, it still has plenty of power for my needs.
I rode a Yamaha Vino 125 scooter for around a year. I completely understand what you are talking about "driving a dangerous bike." It prepared me for my current bike, a Honda XR650R dualsport. Loads of fun. My experiences from the scooter year are probably what have kept me from hurting myself thus far. I enjoy your motorcycle content along with the car reviews. Please continue to make it a regular part of your videos!
This was beautiful... I'm currently a college student and I'm going through my first bikes I can relate to some of these stories haha. And you sound like you belong on NPR. Awesome man, please more bike stories!
I just picked up a 1982 CM250C about 3 weeks ago. Fun little bit for zipping around town. I had got my MC license from the motorcycle safety course, which was 100% of my MC riding experience, before I purchased my CM250C. So my first on road experience on a motorcycle was driving this tiny bike about 40 miles down rt 28 from Kittanning to Pittsburgh, which is a 65mph highway.
Exactly as you described - the bike felt like it was close to being "out of sorts" every time there was a wind gust. I did have a friend buffering me from behind with a Cherokee so that helped.
I know its regular car reviews but, I really enjoy your motovlogs and review videos. I am looking forward to any bike content in the future. J.S dont sell the bike because you will just end up regreting it and buy another one lol.
You and I have very similar motorcycle history. I had a kreidler flory moped, multiple puch maxi's, a tomos targa LX, then 82' Honda CM200T, 00' GS500E, 01' Triumph Tiger 955i, 78' GS750, 06' VFR800, and worked my way back to a 01' Honda Reflex 250 scooter...
That's awesome, I've had an 81' Honda CM200 and a 87' VFR700 as well. Such fun bikes. The CM200 was almost more fun than the VFR700 just because it was so goofy and small.
This entire time I've been watching this video whenever you said Honda I was hoping that you would say something in the CX family, I didn't expect it really but I was hella surprised when you said GL500. Every thing after that just got a bit surreal for a bit, Mainly because about 2 winters ago I bought my first bike for $400's, It was a non running CX500C I bought off my dads coworker and its been the only vehicle I completely own. It still barely runs and don't get me wrong its one big money sink and I don't think I'm ever gonna get anywhere close to the money I put in but I don;t really need to. That engine is really something I mean there's just been issue after issue caused by the last shop that worked on it but whenever I get past whatever issue I'm having that week, it just seems to brighten my day. Every little piece of it just seems to bring me joy, even though I've only ever driven it 5 feet. Its nice to see someone like you also had some experience with those bike, and most importantly that engine. I know I'm about 5 years too late to really comment, but just felt like I gotta show my appreciation.
It's only been 2 months but just thought I'd say that not only did I finally get my cx running, I also recently received a free gl500i from a new friend who had it laying around doing nothing and not running, both now run and I can happily say it feels good to be here.
Oh my god the PA references.. the lehigh valley references alone are amazing.. hilarious. I could just build the mental picture in my head, made it all that much more entertaining.
I really do love these kinds of videos coming from you. It seems like I get used to your reviews, but it's great to see that you are easily just another person. These videos are enjoyable simply because they make me feel "closer" to you. Maybe closer is the wrong term, but it establishes a personal connection to us as the viewers, and I think it's really cool that you will just lay down and talk to us, let us know. It's also great to hear you reminiscing on different bikes and times you have had, and the real joy in some of your laughter. It seems like there is just something about your storytelling skills that make these videos really come alive for me, and I'd like thank you, Mr. Regular, for making not only your reviews with The Roman, but also for making other videos like these.
Thanks for the story telling. I'm 19 and really want to get a bike! Hopefully I'd start on a 250 or 300 ninja. Parents obviously aren't too thrilled but riding with my buddies on the countryside is so enticing. Peace!
I loved my gs500e... I had a long running post on the gs forums of the debacle of making one good engine from two bad ones. I revisited the post like 7 years later after I bought my Hayabusa... I still miss that bike. Like you, it was the fastest thing at the time that I had ever ridden. The joy I experienced as an 18 year old riding that to high school beat the Busa hands down. Also, I am from the williamsport area. Nice to see a local guy making it big on youtube!
Glad to have listened to this. Makes me more comfortable when I say I've still got that 92 Suzuki VS800 for you to review if you ever make it through Richmond! :)
Awesome I have a 79 Kawasaki kz650 SR its awesome. Previous bike was a 01 Kawasaki Vulcan 800a painted like easy rider red white and blue. Traded that for my 91 eagle talon tsi awd 5spd. Lasted about a year and I just needed another bike. URGHHHH I JUST NEED THE VIBRATION BETWEEN MY LEGS!!! Thank you for another great video.
Hey Mr. Regular... I have my dads old GS-550E (the Fast one if youve seen the ad.) (The ad is the Sassy one and the Fast one just so you know!) And I LOVE it. I have some clip ons (Because MotoGP bike). Glad to see another person riding an old Suzy! Have fun in the spring!
I had a 175 Honda Scrambler...that thing was a jewel. It would happily rev in the seven grand range, and make nice sounds doing it. You sell that bike and you will just have to buy something else. The itch never goes away.
Google Hangouts is nice for that kind of live event. It can stream right over to TH-cam. Was nice to hear all about those bikes. You have a true passion for them! Makes me want to try getting one myself just hearing you talk about it.
Yeah! I KNEW when you mentioned the carb bowl clips on that van video to hold up the spare, that you had a fair bit of experience with those beautifully simple CL175 carbs; nothin' to em! Jenky electronics on that bike for sure... POINTS!
Loved this! Super interesting, especially as i'm looking at picking up my first bike(first motorised vehicle actually) soon. Hoping to pick up a Yamaha WR125X.
Love it, Mr. Regular. I started (on the street) with a new R6 when I was 18... I'm lucky to be alive. I've had three 600cc SBs since then, and a built zx10, which is so fast, its not fun anymore. Maybe you should buy it! : P I would love a motorcycle edition of Regular Reviews. There number of quirky bikes out there would be amazing fodder.
If you're yanking the left side cover, pull the flywheel off and make sure the bolts on the back of it holding the starter clutch are tight. I just had one loosen up on my '01 GS500 and it started causing one hell of a racket.
love these videos. More of a video podcast. you should do a podcast with just yourself talking about past experiences and just overall mechanical stuff.
Interesting point about the CB250 Nighthawk - bore is same as stroke, so properly square engine. Quite a unique thing in that respect. Btw I appreciate this won't be news to ya - but for some reason this factoid always sticks in my mind and I feel obliged to regurgitate it as and when.
Mr. Regular. My first motorcycle was an '82 Honda CM250C with only 7500 miles on it. It was a horribly not cared for bike but I was able to restore it. It was given to me on my birthday by my father. I still love my motorcycle even if I bought my current bike a '83 Honda GL1100 Aspencade.
Elite 80s are so fun! First thing that made me want two wheels to ride around on. Rode my friend's CB and loved that too, so got myself an 89 Ninja 600R. It was laid down and I need money for college so I'm letting it go, but I'm already itching for another bike. Maybe an RD400 or a GN400, not sure quite yet.
I just picked up 2 bikes from the junkyard near my school- a 79’ Honda CM400T, and a 69’ Kawasaki sidewinder 250. I have the Honda running great, I honestly don’t think I could have found a better starter bike! Kawi still needs work, but i have it running and it sounds awesome!
OK ... I know this is the internet. But I am real. Just wanted to compliment you on your positioning on the road. Not constant, but constantly adjusting. Really good. You shouldn't care about my opinion though. Still; I've been riding for 35 years plus, average of 30K KM (20K Mls) a year, fours seasons, in NL and DE. Which is completely different from riding in the US. But still, your positioning is virtually immaculate imho. A sign of an intelligent and safe rider. Kudos. And I am wishing you safe and pleasant travels dude. (y'know, the things that really matter;-)
I enjoyed your Video I Myself just recently purchased my first Bike and it is very nice It gives me a good insight to the riding world with very little worry. I purchased a 1978 Honda CB400A Hondamatic and it now has only 1750 miles on it. it is a bit sluggish but It is a great place to start. BTW Love RCR (also I work for DeLorean in CA) so if you are ever back in southern CA. stop on by
I have an 92 CM450E. I VERY MUCH agree with the downshifting to brake. Those brakes will not stop you when a light up ahead is going to turn red without you expecting it. I've gone through many a red light because of that...
I ride a 84 Gl500 silverwing right now, awesome bike. Fully clothed with the factory trunk and saddlebags, mini goldwing :D The motor redlines allllll day.
You should do an episode on a Honda Shadow. Any Craigslist search shows the Honda VLX is the go-to cruiser starter; it is the most regular bike. I'm repairing my VLX after an accident destroyed the front rather than just trading up, because I love my Shadow.
I find that the best but maybe not most environmentally friendly way to clean grease and oils is clear mineral spirits (or kerosene works just as well), a toothbrush, a paintbrush for large areas, and a water hose. I used both of those chemicals to clean up the engine bay, engine, and components of my '97 Mazda Protege when I did an engine swap.
I think you would like the Bandit 650. Dunno why, but here most Bandit owners I know owned a GS500 and they loved it. But now they love the bandit more. =D You should do regular podcasts.
Um, wow. Blown away rn. I bought my first bike last season, and it's a '83 CM. It's 125 and not 250, but apart from acceleration from full stop they're dynamically identical. And I'll be damned, all the things Mr.Regular have said about the experience of riding it are exactly the same to me. The part about engine braking hit especially close to home. Feels weird. I feel special now.
I just got my first 'bike'. A beat up Honda Today 50cc scooter for 300 bucks :) It's got a top speed of 35mph and it's an absolute blast! RCR's bike reviews are partly to blame for me transitioning to 2 wheels, so thanks :)
Me and my buddy are putting a cb750 together at the age of 14 for his dad who isn't home for long periods of time. You should really consider a cb750 for your next bike. I took it down his road and it was so much fun even though I could only take it into 2nd gear....fun times.
So jealous! Only bike I ever owned was an '82 KZ650 CSR that I bought in '98. Paid $500 for it, $132/year for insurance, and $5/week in gas. I rode it for 2 1/2 years, every day, to 2 jobs. (My wife at the time had a Saab 9000 turbo, and was a stay at home "mom"...sort of...) I want another bike, but being married, with 2 kids, a full time job, etc, means I have "responsibilities". I'm a pretty big guy (300lbs) so I think a 600cc bike would be the minimum size for me, especially since I have to ride the Garden State Parkway to and from work 6 days a week.
RegularCars taking into account price, an inexpensive car such as a miata or maybe an old jeep would not deliver the same joy? Thanks for the history lesson in tne video. Make more like these. It is nice to know your history. Add to the faceless character you are. After losing people to bikes i have always stayed away from them, but i miss riding on the back of a friends as a child or taking one out recently, that fear or even hate is still there though
Great post, totally agree, driving slow cars/bikes/scooters fast is way more exciting/scary/fun! I've terrified passengers in my wife's Mini more than in more capable cars.
honda nighthawk 250, i rode one of these for the msf course I took and I totally agree with how ridiculously unsafe they are, good to learn on for that reason.
Hehehehe. My first bike wasn't a Honda CB250 Nighthawk, but rather a Honda XR250L street legal 4-stroke dual-sport. Great starter bike. Dropped it a few times, took a turn too fast and lost it in the berm. Learned a lot on that bike. Then I went up to a 84' Honda CB700S Nighthawk, followed by a 86' Honda VF700C Magna, and back to another Nighthawk with a 93' CB750C in blue. Lost that when I got rear-ended at an intersection, went without a bike for a few years, and finally got back on 2 wheels late in 2019 when I picked up a 2017 Honda CB1100EX with under 2K miles on it. Love being back on two wheels again, and I especially love doing it with the king of modern UJM retro cool. But, keeping my eyes out for a clean stock Honda 919/Hornet or a 94'-95' CB1000, just something a bit sportier for commuting.
NO WAY, my first bike was a 1970 Honda CB175! That's so cool. It was only 20 HP, but it loved to be revved all the way to 10,000 RPM; in fact, that's where it was making peak power haha.
I've driven a 250 nighthawk, it felt less powerful than the 1978 cb125 Twin I owned as a learner bike. Less urge to go to high RPM, not much "humpf". My twin, which I still owned, had two 26mm carbs, could cruise at 12.000 RPM all day ( it was a small 125cc but I was able to easily cruise near 130km/h all day long ...). Mine made around 19-20 bhp and could rev up to 13.000 RPM no questions asked. I freaking loved that bike. I now own a cb350f, which is a great vintage bike but it still feels less fun than my old cb125 twin.
Always love your bike reviews. Got a garage full currently myself, and I will say- those DR350/650s are a bitch to kick over! My shin will never forgive me.
My dad just bought a dr650se almost a year ago. That thing is heavy for an enduro, but, I guess coming from a crf150f, it definitely pulls it weight well. Great bike, we just wish it was a bit lighter.
Hi! I started out on an 03 little Buell Blast 500cc to get my feet wet and that was a fun little bike to tool around on. I graduated to a 2002 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail fuel injected. Rode it to and from Washington DC for Memorial Day and more recently to and from Sturgis, SD with a friend from Ohio. I would love if you reviewed the bike, but I completely understand if you are busy, or just not interested. If you wanted to review I would gladly ride out to PA. An excuse to ride is always fun.
I know EXACTLY what song you're talking about! It's called Legacy, by Gone Jackals. I've loved it since playing the first five minutes of Full Throttle on a freaking demo disc.
If you're ever down near the tail of the dragon youre welcome to ride my 04 GS500. only major changes i've done are stiffer front springs, clipons, airfilter, and rejet, but its a night and day difference.
Your super close to me. I grew up in oley and currently live in mt. penn outside reading. I want to get my first bike soon. Thinkin yamaha 250 dual sport. I feel the need to hit the trails. Like reading anthricite.
Thanks for giving us motorcycle riders a video every now and again. Don't get me wrong, i watch all your car reviews because I love cars, but bikes are a bigger thing for me now a days. Keep it coming :D
***** Okay then.
***** Nothing, troll.
***** Seems like a cool guy to me. Guns, motorcycles, cars, sounds like you're just an angry person.
***** You too ;D
+Just Here For The TH-cam +MyNameIsFisk First ever calmly resolved argument I have seen on TH-cam. Well done!
watched this before bed. was laying on my back dozing off to the sound of you talking bikes, was just nodding off to sleep and nearly shat myself when you said goodnight at the end haha
yep
x2
I desperately, DESPERATELY need you to straighten your windscreen.
C. Walker Yea it bugs me when I see it too. I didn't notice it that day, but now I do.
Also, I call dibs on the screen when you sell the bike.
C. Walker Made me aware of it. Bothering me so much now.
Got my 1986 Toyota MR2 for $1000. Bought it partially because of your AW11 video. I've fallen in love. I've done a cross state trip, in it. What a fun drive that was. RUST EVERYWHERE

he did regret it and he sold it
Honda-"Grom" review soon, I hope :)
GROM! GROM! GROM! GROM!
My Honda is BEST Honda because a 12 year old can pull DANK NOONERS on it......
Super Cub 🧐

My first bike is a Nighthawk 250. I love that little bike

Great vid man. Always nice to hear others experiences on two wheels. Some great stories always pop up. Thanks for sharing!
Man, you really make me like anything you talk about. Cheers to you for being that awesome.
I ordered some parts (air & oil filter) from Dennis Kirk yesterday for my '81 CM400, and they were here this morning through UPS. That's pretty quick.
This was really great! Keep these personal vlogs coming!!!!

That might be the most perfect description of a cb250 nighthawk i've ever heard. Spot on.

awesome motorcycle reviews! please do more and keep it real as you usually do.
I started out on a 95 honda cb250 nighthawk. She has been a good ride for the past 2 years, I'm glad to hear that you also owned one

You are spoiling me Mr. Regular. Great video sir. uhrmmmmahgerdmotorcycles. I love bikes, sadly can't afford one.
LaterMeansBrick yeah you can, I'm the poorest person in America right now and I have a 96 gs500e
As someone else said, listening to you talk about bikes just makes me want to get one. Even though I don't in any way need one.
Waaait, Mr Regular.....are those NO-NO stickers on the Speedometer?
n0sfreak I think thats on the tach
Yes, I have the same bike that's the speedo. I swear it used to be on the tach, it's a Mandela effect maybe lol
Makes me remember that Ford Centurion van review
Hey Mr.
I just got an old GS550. I don't even know what year it is. I rescued it from a garage and got it running and it drives amazing.

I would love a motorcycle edition of Regular Reviews.
Would love to have you come to Chicago and test ride our bikes and have a video! Ducati, Triumph, MV Agusta, KTM, EBR (Buell lol), and Norton!
Definitely the only Full Throttle reference I've ever heard. Nice.
This video got me into bikes. I've been riding for 2.5 years and I have no regrets! But, I still want to buy a scooter one day...
Mr.
That fart at the end killed me haha
My '78 BMW R80 makes me share the feelings on 70's wiring and carburetors. But despite many problems, I still love it too much to sell it.
Have a GS500E, my first big bike as well, love it. Can´t wait till march to have it running and ride it around again ... :D
I myself have an 86 GS550E (a bit more race bikeish) and I cant wait for srping to roll around again!
BTW Love RCR (also I work for DeLorean in CA) so if you are ever back in southern CA. stop on by
Goddammit. I could melt into your voice for eternity.
i have a suzuki gs550 therefore i am the bigger man
I'll raise you one.
A dr-350. The goon bike before true supermotos. New found respect for you, enjoyed the video as well.
My first and current bike is a 1985 honda rebel 250, its really easy to ride and a lot of fun to learn on. not planning on switching anytime soon
I literally just bought a GS500. 2003, 10k miles, $2300. Coming from a 250, this thing is amazing. Feels like more bike than I will ever need.
My first bike was 92 GS500e, loved it. Road it all over the PA back roads. Nice spot on the Way-Har farm dairy there in this vid ; ]
Assuming that you have crashed, tell us your crash stories
every biker crashes! period
If you ride, you gon fall
Was told by an oldtimer years ago that there are two types of bikers. Those that have gone down and those who will.
LayErDown
I know exactly where you filmed this ride! I used to go riding up that way all the time, it's where all my family is from!
"unsafe in your favor" I
I have an 92 CM450E. I VERY MUCH agree with the downshifting to brake. Those brakes will not stop you when a light up ahead is going to turn red without you expecting it. I've gone through many a red light because of that...
I ride a 84 Gl500 silverwing right now, awesome bike. Fully clothed with the factory trunk and saddlebags, mini goldwing :D The motor redlines allllll day.
damn i really enjoy these stories. more please
My 1st bike was,and still is a nighthawk 450. I've had for a lil over 4 yrs. And now I really want to upgrade
Had a 93' DR350S and an 03' DR650...both were too much fun. Miss them both.
You should do an episode on a Honda Shadow. Any Craigslist search shows the Honda VLX is the go-to cruiser starter; it is the most regular bike. I'm repairing my VLX after an accident destroyed the front rather than just trading up, because I love my Shadow.
I've had an 85 DR100, a 79 KZ400, an 80 GS750, a 78 KZ650, and currently an 81 KZ1000 and 93 ST1100. I love the old KZs, such great bikes.
You should do regular podcasts.
Got a '92 GS500E for my first bike, I love it.
Your rambling reminded me of listening to my 60 year old English teacher. :P
Me and my buddy are putting a cb750 together at the age of 14 for his dad who isn't home for long periods of time. You should really consider a cb750 for your next bike. I took it down his road and it was so much fun even though I could only take it into 2nd gear....fun times.
I start my motorcycle training course in a couple weeks! Can't wait
KevinGoldLVL
So, five years later....how are you getting on?
Silverwing!, I had a CX500(silverwing's sister bike), Awsome bike loved that thing
RegularCars, keep up the bike reviews
Dis was fun. Do more motorcycle reviews. 👍
living in SD and having sturgis coming up, im not too excited for all the bikes coming in to town but i do love a good motorcycle.
honda nighthawk 250, i rode one of these for the msf course I took and I totally agree with how ridiculously unsafe they are, good to learn on for that reason.
I now own a cb350f, which is a great vintage bike but it still feels less fun than my old cb125 twin.
as a 24 year old who has been lusring after a motorcycle and is saving up for one. You rock.
Always love your bike reviews. Got a garage full currently myself, and I will say- those DR350/650s are a bitch to kick over! My shin will never forgive me.
mogstah kick and spin gently until you get the Piston to Top dead center
I had a Buell Blast for my first bike and I liked it for a while. Then got a '91 Ninja 600r that I love it so much.
If you're ever down near the tail of the dragon youre welcome to ride my 04 GS500. only major changes i've done are stiffer front springs, clipons, airfilter, and rejet, but its a night and day difference.
I pass a bike like this everytime I go to Kennywood or go past the steel mill and it's nice out I swear that bike never moves
Your super close to me. I grew up in oley and currently live in mt. penn outside reading. I want to get my first bike soon. Thinkin yamaha 250 dual sport. I feel the need to hit the trails. Like reading anthricite.
