    I'm just starting a tunneler/darkness "dwarf" colony. My custom race has super immunity, superfast wound healing and superclotting, strong melee, robust, reduced pain, strong stomach, near sighted, dark vision, unstopabble, intense UV sensitivity, phsychically deaf, awful shooting, cooking and animals, great melee and, most importantly, beer dependency !
    They are walking, talking, drunk melee tanks.

    Had the chance to find a tough yttakin. That's 38% on all incoming damage (0.5 × 0.75). When i tell her to hold the door she does. Damn this gene modding stuff is incredivly strong.

    The big attraction of the DLC were certainly the mechanoids, but man the gene altering is certainly a powerful sleeper. Just so many incredibly interesting and diverse builds and possibilities. Itll certainly make more meme and challenge runs possible.

    Strong melee damage is basically essential if you want a melee juggernaut of a pawn - the rest is secondary - but it needs a proper weapon for a full effect.
    On its own, it is quite strong... BUT it becomes terrifying once you get your hands on a Zeushammer - preferably a higher quality persona version.
    The reason is the overkill mechanic of a blunt damage type. Slashing weapons, when they hit a "detachable" body part and destroy it, the body part is simply removed, with some bleeding on top. Blunt weapon on the other hand - their damage "splashes" - a destructive hit to an arm will "splash" some damage to adjacent body parts - in this case, the torso.
    This means that normally non-lethal limb damage can and WILL kill the target. This elevates Zeushammer above monosword even.
    A prime thing to consider for any combat oriented xenotype - fast or superfast healing.
    This is especially important for melee character. Superclotting is also worth considering, and any improvement to immunity gain speed.
    Reason is simple - Melee characters are far more likely to get injured.
    Ranged combatants can avoid large portions of damage by staying in cover and having armour on top of that. Ranged enemies, for the most part are also fairly inaccurate - true enemy shooting champions are very, very rare.
    In comparison, melee is far more streamlined - Level 0 skill is 50% base chance to hit, the first melee hit chance softcap is at level 10 with 80% chance to hit. It jumps only by 10% on level 20.
    Dodge chance has linear growth - from level 6 you gain ~2% every level, capping at 30% at level 20. Before level 6 you can't dodge, unless you.
    This meas that average melee pawn vs another average melee pawn has something like 70% chance to hit.
    You will get hit, a lot.
    Fast healing reduces the downtime significantly.
    That is why Yttakin are surprisingly bad at melee, despite having strong melee and robust genes. They are forced into too much downtime.

      1: Strong melee damage/robust are essential to me. Superfast healing almost makes the most sense, since it's +1 extra point for +200% heal speed.
      2. Haven't tried persona zeushammers yet. I really should!
      3. So far I've found plasteel gladiuses to be the most effective mixed-unit weapon. Just because organic enemies die so fast, I notice blunt users (mostly uranium mace) get stuck in cooldown a lot. The gladius lets them deal slightly less damage at a time, but make a lot more hits (consistent damage vs. striking mostly dead, already-shot enemies).
      4. Yttakin are good for harvesting genes...

      Not with Spartans. They have a unique trait called "Dead Clam" that ensures their mental breaks are never violent, they never start social fights, and they never prison break.

      @@zackfritz9491 from what I have seen brawler skill boost does not stack with great melee, but you still get the increased hit chance.

    Yo I was thinking of making one of these after seeing how powerful vampires are! A Sanguophage melee build might be even stronger if you can get rid of their fear of fire 🤔

      I was planning on doing a Sanguophage! I'm kinda thinking to do a whole series on Xeno-builds. Next one is probably going to be the Gene Warriors, though.

    I'm currently doing a rats run to test the whole toxicity thing (default ugly trait sucks, they don't even want to romance each other despite all of them being ugly), but next I'm definitely doing mole people with melee builds, to take advantage of the Ideology thing where in the dark they fight 20% better. The 150% melee damage sounds disgusting with a zeushammer. 27 damage per swing with an excellent one. No prisoners.
    Although personally I would rather sacrifice optimist or strong immunity, for not having awful medical. I find a frontline doctor sometimes essential. Although once you get the vampire thing, you can forget about that and just insta-patch everybody with the skill.

      @@speltincorrectyl1844 I'm afraid that won't work. The rats have the "aggressive" gene by default, which "disables" the kind gene. The leftmost gene is dominant to the rest, so for example ugly will not be disabled by beautiful, or poor melee will not be disabled by good melee.
      From the leftmost genes, rats have aggressive, ugly, poor cooking, poor animals and poor artistic. I'm going full rats, so there's no fixing those. Got a lucky cook so no nutrient paste, but I had no pack animals for 2 years, and my crafting specialist sat doing art for a looong time, which, oof, an excellent sculpture becomes extremely valuable, to the point that I had to reload a previous save to avoid losing one.
      On the bright side, one of the default pirate gangs are rats, so I can recruit while keeping the genepool clean.
      Seriously though, rats suck as colonists lol. The aggresive gene sucks. They always social fight, and they always beat each other up. I have 3 doctors at 20 already from patching the rats up.
      Although it's nice to have them high on yayo all the time with no repercussions.

Just messed a bit with the devtool, and xenogenes override any germline genes, so it is Hussars, Genies and Highmates who are screwed and need to pay attention to which is the dominant gene. Everybody else can change their things. Well, except apparently the trotter hands of the pigs. Not even bionics or an elongated fingers xenogene fixed that.

    super bloodclotting is awesome, no more bleeding out at all ever, and no infections as when they scab over it counts as a (pretty good) tend all for just 1 point, I can see this being nerfed in a latter update.

    One of my base biotech xenotypes is at the cost of being weak at melee and animals and psychically deaf, they’re good at art and social, dead calm, have a smooth tail and elongated fingers, dark vision, and have the beautiful trait and cosmetically have a horn in the middle, have light blue hair and skin, can’t get gray hair, and have bushy beards for men and have long hair.

      I really really like the uranium mace. It's not the strongest nominal DPS, but it's effective DPS is through the roof due to all armors having inferior blunt damage protection. Main drawback is its very long cooldown.

    you can also add the psychic bonding, xenos with psychic bonding with another pawn gain an additional 15% to consciousness,manipulation and talking hahahah

      Na they're bros. But if you're wondering, I did test them against each other and they're pretty evenly matched in 1v1 combat. But against mass enemies, Pan is a _lot_ more effective. He heals quick enough to repair some damage mid-fight.

    I find altering genes pre game is a little cheap, I just choose from the core races. Only in meme runs will I get wacky like with my female supremacy cannibal cat girl tribals.
    Though I also don't use kill boxes cause I think they are cheap so my opinion is worth dirt lol

      I'd highly suggest you use the altered races. It's there for a reason, it adds _so_ much to the game. Speaking of, this is a game! Make OP saiyans, supreme snipers, freaky catgirls and whatever else you want. Have fun!

    I see, Physical Melee Meta is real... I prefer having them with a Psycast super caster which basically lets them fight forever given the right Psycast cast... Goodbye, long range meta...

      Long range meta is far from over. I still need to do more testing, but my theory is that Spartans will operate best in mixed units.
      Think of the Spartans as a mobile bunker for your shooters. Give them your best armor, best shields, best melee weapons. Their job is to tank damage while your ranged units pick off the enemy in waves. Picture it like this: 2-3 Spartans out front deal melee damage and absorb incoming fire, while lightly armored (but highly mobile) ranged troops focus fire targets from behind the frontlines.
      This tactic has been very effective in my playthroughs. Unlike static defenses, it's flexible, and can be deployed anywhere. It's also less expensive; instead of giving everyone heavy armor, you can focus on just getting your Spartans the good stuff, since they'll be shielding the Rangers. Also, having the enemy focus fire on a few heavily armored, shielded targets prevents a lot of injuries; instead of walking home most of your troops wounded, you'll return with maybe a few casualties. I've had rounds with no injuries at all.

    Or.
    Oliver O'neil begins to worship the gods in a pain is virtue religion. We'll see science vs faith in a classic matchup. To combine both would be....ascension.
